I Want To Know What Love Is… Submission #87: “It’s been years, but I still think of you and wonder ‘What could have been?’”

Around the world, people love. They sing for love, they dance for love, they compose poems and stories about love. They tell myths and legends about love. They pine for love, they live for love, they kill for love, and they die for love. Anthropologists have found evidence of romantic love in 170 societies. They’ve never found a society that did not have it. Helen Fisher, The Brain In Love

Submission #346: “I choose to say it did not fail. It just finished.” Submission #302: “Jemma forever xo” Created by Daniel Evans, Amy Ingram, Caroline Dunphy, Kieran Swann and Lauren Clelland.

I Want To Know What Love Is throws a spotlight on long-buried memories, bedroom fantasies, crushes and conquests. Acclaimed Queensland performance collective The Good Room asked members of the public to anonymously submit their stories of love – fragments and memories, confessions and admissions – and they’ve transformed those secret submissions into magnificent declarations centre stage.

PERFORMANCE

HORSHAM ARTS COUNCIL

Rock of Ages

Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherrie, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall.

Can Drew, Sherrie and the gang save the strip -- and themselves -- before it’s too late? Only the music of legendary 80’s artists including Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, REO Speedwagon, Starship and more hold the answer. VIP Experience Exclusive opportunity to have a pre-show drink at the Bourbon Club on stage prior to curtain up! This experience has limited capacity to 10 people per show. Cost $10 (please note this does not include entry to the show, ticket purchase required as per standard entry)

EXHIBITION

Jacob Raupach: Folding the Periphery Folding the Periphery traces the 960km expanse of rail corridor between Sydney and Melbourne, examining liminal spaces along the line that house and support extractive industries and link them to the global economic market. Mapping these in between spaces, Folding the Periphery condenses and collapses the complex material, economic and industrial relationships between regional and metropolitan areas into a mesh of images, videos and sculptures within the gallery space.

The arrogant conceit of the cydereconomy, for the matter of the very idea of the post-industrial era, is that we disavow our dim but nagging awareness that nearly all energy - whether converted to electricity or derived from direct combustion - comes from oil or other hydrocarbon fossil fuels, or from fissionable uranium refined from yellow-cake ore; solids, liquids, and gases that are extracted from the earth and transported in bulk. Allan Sekula, Between the Net and the Deep Blue Sea (Rethinking the Traffic in Photographs) 2002, pg. 33
