Diagnosis: Longitudinal Split Tear of the Posterior Tibial Tendon
The posterior tibial tendon is an important flexor and invertor of the ankle, coursing posterior to the medial malleolus and inserting on multiple bones of the foot but primarily the navicular.
Injury and degeneration of the posterior tibial tendon can occur in older patients or in patients with certain risk factors such as obesity and diabetes.
On imaging, posterior tibial tendon pathology can range from tendinosis, split tears, partial ruptures, to complete ruptures.
Complete rupture of the posterior tibial tendon will lead to collapse of the longitudinal arch of the foot.
