Clinical History

63 year old female 3 months status post right carpal tunnel surgery with 1 week of increased right wrist volar-sided pain.

Diagnosis:

Neuroma of the Palmar Cutaneous Branch of the Median

Nerve Following Carpal Tunnel Surgery

The palmar cutaneous branch of the median nerve provides sensation to the proximal palmar skin particularly over the thenar eminence.

This nerve is vulnerable to injury during surgery along the volar aspect of the wrist, most commonly seen with carpal tunnel release.

Injury to this nerve may manifest as a period of proximal palmar numbness after surgery followed by increased pain from neuroma formation.
