Clinical History

45 year old male with left anterolateral thigh pain and numbness.

Diagnosis: Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Neuropathy (Meralgia Paresthetica)

The lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) is a sensory nerve formed by contributions from the L2 and L3 nerve roots.

Meralgia paresthetica is a LFCN mononeuropathy, usually an entrapment neuropathy, manifesting as pain, numbness, and/or paresthesias along the anterolateral aspect of the thigh.

Enlargement of the LFCN can be seen using ultrasound or MRI.

Treatment may be conservative or can include perineural corticosteroid injection or surgical decompression.
