Diagnosis: Complete Achilles Tendon Rupture with Intact Plantaris
Tendon
The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body, forming from the aponeuroses of the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles.
Rupture of the Achilles tendon is a common injury typically associated with jumping or landing, resulting in excessive tension on the tendon.
The plantaris tendon arises at the posterior knee and inserts on the calcaneus adjacent to the Achilles insertion or upon the Achilles tendon itself.
Even in the setting of complete Achilles tendon rupture, the plantaris may remain intact, helping to preserve some plantarflexion.
