Huazhong University of Science and Technology of Wuhan, China is planning for a renovation to the
Campus East, in order to tackle the flooding, disrepair problem and to further develop the Campus. Our group took the approach of creating a lake centralized campus while maintaining the iconic buildings on the Campus untouched, transforming the campus into an iconic attraction while considerate in the students’ needs and privacy.

During
my internship in Duane Border Design, I assisted on creating AutoCAD lineworks, rendering in both Illustrator and Photoshop. I have also assisted in creating a pro bono bus stop redesign. (Which is featuered below) I experienced first handedly how clients and Landscape Architects collaborate for a picture that meets the client’s needs and further improve the landscape within the Client’s allowance.

INTRODUCTION: Humans rely on pollinators, like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds to fertilize plants found in our food supply. There has been a decline in pollinators, especially in cities like Los Angeles.
BEE: Children stand straight and turn their arms in small, fast circles to mimic the movement of a bee’s wings for 30 seconds.

HUMMINGBIRD: Standing on one foot, children hold themselves steady while waving their arms like a hummingbird and try to “hover” in place for 30 seconds.
SCALE : 1” = 10’-0”
POLLEN ACTIVATION: Small springs are attached to the flower pattern on the panel. when struck by the children, the vibration and noise resembles that of a flower stamen when struck by a pollinator, releasing the pollen.
FLOWER HOPSCOTCH: Children hop from one hexagon to another as many times as possible in 30 seconds to replicate the movement of a bee, or other pollinator, from flower to flower.
NARRATIVE The design of the Western/Gage “Let’s Play Everywhere” uses the concept of pollination to encourage play and exercise, while also educating visitors about the natural environment. Pollination is a critical process for the fertilization of plant materials, specifically many found in food-based agriculture. Humans depend on the pollination process to produce some $40 billion worth of US food products annually. Recently there has been a decline in pollinator populations, especially in urban environments like Los Angeles. The Western/Gage installation will encourage children to participate in physical activities that mimic the movements of pollinators and better understand the connection between their food, health and the natural environment. A graphic hexagon pattern will be applied to the sidewalk using SportMaster Surfacing, a durable acrylic based paint used on sport courts and recreational facilities. The pattern represents hives constructed by nature’s primary pollinators, bees. Larger hexagons will be painted near activity stations, metal panels mounted to the adjacent fence six panels to represent the six sides of a hexagon – where kids will jump, wave, “hover” on one leg, and interact with materials that represent flowers, insects and natural elements used in pollination. There are two Metro stops near the intersection, one with a shade structure and one without. To make for a more comfortable Metro experience for the stop without, the proposal includes a brightly colored lightweight structure to bring the design theme into the overhead plane.
BUS STOP SHADE STRUCTURE
The paving patterns, activity stations and shade structure brighten the transit corridor, highlight the existing Metro stops, reduce heat gain and encourage kids to become active through a playful streetscape. The concept of pollinators and activity stations will also assist children, and adults alike, to better understand their natural environment.

360 is the latest Landscape firm that I practice in. I have learnt to be more efficient in communicating our design to the clients and other consultants. I am able to expand my learning into Sketchup and InDesign to create perspective views and packages. In this Selected Works, I selected a project that I worked on for majority of the process. Hence, featuring the conceptual and furnishing excerpts and some construction details and schematic plans.
