LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER that happened... Happy 2013! It’s definitely a whole new year... An interesting and revolutionary event happened this past election. Two states, Colorado and Washington, have now legalized for recreational use the herb that heretofore, we dare not say it’s name. This historical election will be seen as a watershed moment for both pot’s image and state’s rights in general. But what does it all mean to the companies and stores that sell products that could be used for pot, but clearly state the intent of their products is to be used for tobacco and other legal herbs? Since many products that are in demand by alternative smokers (we define “alternative” here as smoker’s that prefer an alternative to mainstream pre-manufactured cigarettes and cigars), generally also might be in demand for pot users, does that mean we can say so in our national marketing efforts? For example, can rolling papers also now be advertised for rolling joints to residents of Colorado and Washington? At this point, there seem to be more questions than answers, and I expect we’ll hear plenty of contradictory opinions in the near future. Matt LaPrairie’s article for HotBreath provides us some insight to this ground breaking change in law. We do know one thing for sure... “pot” will be a boiler plate issue on the American political landscape for the foreseeable future, and as such, there’s likely to be growing interest in all things potty. So even if you don’t make or sell anything to smoke with, the interest in the culture will provide many opportunities for savvy and creative smoketrepreneurs to tap into the growing interest in the lifestyle. Also in this issue, the Glass Otaku of Ignite-me.co visits some of the best shops in the Mile High state for our Rocky Mountain Roundup. To much of America, these stores operate at a whole different altitude. Finally, we chose this gnarly piece from Zii as the cover for this issue because, let’s face it, this piece has some hot breath! Then the perfect antithesis to Zii’s gorefest is longtime glass master Zach Puchowitz’s unique breed of fire fueled rebellion from the streets of Philly. Each of these artists are master’s of totally different styles and we totally dig their work. We’ve got all this plus much more in Issue 6 of HotBreath magazine. We’re looking forward to a great 2013 and our best year ever as an industry!
