Abu Dhabi City District Considered to be one of the richest cities in the world, Abu Dhabi is a cosmopolitan metropolis and a major cultural and commercial centre due to its position as the capital. The city offers a strikingly contrasting landscape, from sandy beaches and skyscrapers to rolling desert dunes. Joined to the mainland by the Maqta and Mussafah bridges, some of the key suburbs in the city include Khalifa, Electra, Hamdan, Mussafah (residential and industrial) and the beautiful waterfront Corniche. The emirate also consists of the eastern oasis of Al Ain, better known as the Green City. Al Raha Gardens Why life in this leafy neighbourhood suits the Bradstreet family down to the ground...
When Ben and Tiffany Bradstreet found out they were due to have not one but two new additions to their family, they knew it was time to move to a bigger property. “We were in a little apartment on the Corniche,” says Tiffany with a smile, “but there isn’t much breathing room in an apartment with twins and a dog!” The couple – and their daughters Isabella and Charlotte – upped sticks to Al Raha Gardens, a leafy enclave in the capital, and they’ve never looked back. “We can’t get enough of the fresh air,” says Tiffany. “After living in the city centre for so long, it’s a real treat.” July 2013
As well as a spacious multi-bedroom home, the family have a garden and private swimming pool at their disposal. “It’s so nice to have a garden – it has been difficult to get things to grow, but I’ve tried to nurture some herbs for cooking. When we moved in we took everything out and started from scratch, because we wanted to put our mark on the space. It’s sparse, but we’re working on it...” The area is family-friendly, too – much to Tiffany’s delight. “We’ve met quite a few of our neighbours – fingers crossed we’ll start growing more of a network with the nearby families as the girls grow. We do a few

playdates around the area, so it’s nice to have that support network.” There’s a retail area roughly 200 metres away from the family’s front door, so stocking up on groceries and grabbing a bite to eat is nice and easy. “There’s a supermarket, a couple of restaurants, a Jones the Grocer, a few takeaway places and a Circle café,” says Tiffany ticking the list off on her fingers. “And the twins always attract attention wherever they go – you wouldn’t want to be a wallflower with them!” The future looks promising for the girls’ schooling too: here, there is easy road access to a number of schools – not least Gems American Academy, which is just across the road. But for now, being at home is the Bradstreets’ main priority: Ben travels a lot, so when he’s at home the family like to spend plenty of time together. When it comes to their interior design, Tiffany admits it’s a work in progress: “We haven’t had much time to spend putting our stamp on the villa. When my parents were over, we were able to put up some art and paint some walls while they looked after girls. It’s nice to be able to nest a bit – we were never able to do that in the apartment.” “We’ve bought furniture from The ONE and Crate and Barrel – which I love. And Pottery Barn Kids is great too. Ben and I clash in tastes a little, so we have to wait until we find something we like.” For now, however, the family are content in growing their nest in the capital – and Tiffany is in her element: “We feel really settled. I immediately felt at home here – I feel very blessed that we’re able to be in such a wonderful place.” July 2013

30ml sunflower oil 4ml fresh lemon juice 70g fresh lemons 40g fresh parsley, finely chopped • 200g fresh lamb, minced
1. Roll the minced lamb into sausage shapes, and fry on a medium heat. Transfer them to a heat-proof bowl. 2. Heat a pan and add the lemon juice. Reduce it to half the quantity, and pour over the lamb. 3. Garnish with fresh lemon and parsley.

100g granulated white sugar 250ml whipping cream (1% fat) 125ml chilled pasteurized egg yolk 250ml full cream fresh milk 50g Bateel date paste 80g dark brown soft cane sugar 1 vanilla bean
1. Boil the cream with the vanilla bean and date paste.
2. Whisk the egg with sugar. 3. Once the milk is boiled, pour it over the egg and sugar mix, and strain. Put the liquid into an overproof dish, and bake in a bain marie at 150°C for 30-35 minutes. 4. Refrigerate for 3 hours and cover the top with the brown sugar 5. Caramelise with a blowtorch, and decorate with fresh dates

5,180g red capsicum 30g fresh red chili 20g walnut halves 60g fresh lemons 12g pine seeds 20ml pomegranate syrup 3g cumin powder 2g salt 2g granulated white sugar 100ml extra virgin olive oil 300g tomatoes 300g red onion 30g peeled garlic
1. Roast the capsicum and chili over coals or a gas burner, turning frequently until blackened and blistered all over. 2. Place in a covered bowl to steam for 10 minutes (to loosens the skin), then rub off the skins, membranes, and seeds.
3. Remove any excess water form the capsicum with kitchen towel. 4. Roast the tomato, garlic and onion in a pre-heated oven at 180°C. 5. In a food processor, grind the walnuts, crackers, lemon juice, molasses, cumin, salt and sugar until smooth. 6. Add all of the cooked vegetables, and process until creamy. 7. With the machine still on, add the oil in a thin stream. Add extra chili to taste. If the paste is too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of water.) 8. Refrigerate overnight to allow the flavours to mellow. When ready to serve, sprinkle with pine nuts and cumin and drizzle with oil. For best results, make the recipe at least one day in advance.

1. Bring the milk and sugar to boiling point in a saucepan.
2. Mix the corn flour with a bit of water and add to the milk; cook until the corn flour is dissolved. Remove from heat. 3. Add the rose water and whisk well. 4. Pour into a heat-proof glass bowl and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours. 5. Before serving, decorate with pistachio nuts.
