PRESSURE COOKER Bristow Global Media:
W Network - Toronto, Canada
Hotopp Associates in partnership with Bristow Global Media Group and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s FRESH ONE designed a new high stakes cooking competition reality series.
environment as well as access to the star of the show...two thirty foot conveyor belts cranking out ingredients as fast as they could be chosen and collected.
For Pressure Cooker Hotopp partnered with Bristow Global Media and Jamie Oliver’s Fresh One Productions to develop a new spin on the cooking competition. A complex shooting environment needed to be created that could give contestants a real home kitchen cooking
Branding was also key as the visual language needed to reflect Jamie Oliver’s design vocabulary, creating a warm and down to earth arena for a fun and fast paced competition.
ESPN NBA COUNTDOWN ESPN:
Los Angeles, CA
The NBA on ESPN is a flexible studio space used as an anchor location for coverage of basketball on ESPN and ABC. Over the course of the average season over sixty games are covered from this ESPN LA studio. This high use set required four LED walls that can transform into an almost infinite number of configurations. These automated screens, engineered by PRG, are suspended from a mechanized track and capable of
moving vertically, horizontally, and rotating on their center axis. An electronic magnet system can also lock them together to form multiple different aspects and sizes. Our goal was to give the directors a flexible tool to enhance variety within the dynamic open plan, and on camera choreograph the shifting LED panels to create a studio like none other on television.
STEVE HARVEY SHOW Deep Dish Productions + Endemol USA:
Chicago, IL
Hotopp Associates in partnership with Deep Dish Productions designed an inviting versatile environment for Steve Harvey’s immensely successful daytime talk show. Hotopp Associates created a unified, modern, and dynamic shooting environment capable of providing endless shooting variations along with designed signature looks. A dramatic portal for a variety of guest entrances and exits sits center stage atop the raised deck flanked
by prominent columns. An adjustable large central LED video monitor can fly off stage and the two doors behind it open to either side, creating an entrance way for guests. In addition, the entire unit can fly up, creating a wide entry area to allow large groups to enter. Metallic and warm wood accents are used effectively throughout the set to provide a warm daytime feel.

ESPN FIFA WORLD CUP 2014 ESPN:
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Hotopp Associates delivers a world class onsite broadcast studio for ESPN’s coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The 2014 World Cup studio in Rio combined a traditional news studio, a casual late night panel, and a window to the local landscape and culture. After a year of impact, site line, and logistic studies a site was chosen for an elevated temporary structure with the perfect view of Rio’s iconic Sugarloaf Mountain. The
studio was designed to capture the Rio’s look and feel with details crafted in regional hardwoods, a vibrant color palate, and locally sourced decor and set dressing. The casual late night discussion area was especially popular, changing up the format for sports coverage with an intimate after hours feel.
KATIE ABC / Disney:
New York NY
When Katie Couric wanted to make the jump to daytime entertainment programing Hotopp Associates envisioned a warm and inviting environment. By sinking the audience and putting cameras at the back of the space we were able to remove the traditional on-stage camera location and connect Katie to the audience. A traveling conversation platform enabled conversations “down stage center but could also be removed
for an open plan look that allowed for larger acts. Other flexible elements to enable the variety of production needs included a rotating cylinder with a multi position monitor and a dynamic layered backdrop that combined traditional scenery, translucent texture materials, and a high res digital backdrop. Tile and glass are used throughout the design as decorative accents that provide pops of color on the neutral palate.
COMCAST SPORTSNET STUDIO Comcast:
Burlington, MA
Hotopp Associates’ expertise designing innovative sports broadcasting studios pays off for Comcast Sports Net with a compact yet versatile studio redesign. The Emmy award winning New England Comcast Sports Net was designed to be the home base for coverage of all the regional sports teams from the Celtics to the Patriots. The rigorous programming schedule required several multi-purpose areas to be developed
all within a relatively small footprint. Starting with detailed camera diagrams and shooting studies, Hotopp reimagined the studio layout and then developed a multi-layered modern look with integrated technology and moving units for a myriad of setups within the confines of the tight space and the short turnarounds.
ESPN SPORTSNATION ESPN:
Hotopp Associates in partnership with ESPN designed sports entertainment show SPORTSNATION and Spanish language version NACION ESPN. A daily shooting environment needed to be created that could give the show variety and maximum flexibility. Hotopp accomplished this by using a variety of textures, materials and shooting locations. Branding was also key as the visual language of ESPN and SportsNation
needed to be integrated across all shooting positions. The show has been a huge success and Hotopp Associates is very proud to have been part of it. SportsNation’s success led to the creation of Nacion ESPN on ESPN Deportes. Nacion has all of the icons of the original SportsNation design but with a West Coast flavor. The Nacion set is in the ESPN studios at LA Live in Los Angeles.
