Out for a hot date? Or just after a cosy spot for two? Saunter through the grapevines for a bite to eat at the acclaimed Bistro Sixteen82. Its modern interior and the buzz of chatter conjures an intimate backdrop for any occasion. Here, finding the best tapas is easy peasy, fresh lemon (drizzled over prawns) squeezy. Executive chef Kerry Kilpin’s evening tapas menu is served every Monday to Sunday from 17h00 to 20h30. Kick off with the bruschetta duo and crispy baked cheese with a glass of Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc while you take in the rest of the offerings. Next, it’s always worth ordering the crisp-fried patatas bravas doused with a mouthwatering chilli and crème fraîche sauce. The main attraction is the seafood: The fresh oysters, Spanish garlic prawns, wasabi fried calamari and Thai-style mussels with lemongrass are must-haves. For great meat, the beef sirloin – served with broccolini, pak choi, kimchi and a spicy pineapple vinaigrette – is the plate you’ll be asking the waiters for seconds and even thirds of. The vegetarian tapas dishes, such as parsnip and roasted onion arancini or a warm broccoli and spinach salad, are also held in high regard and continuously reinvented. If the main dining area looks too packed, peer beyond the bar – there’s a back room that often has more space.
