Making it personal

This year, couples are really thinking about cake flavours, choosing something they really connect with as opposed to ‘just something from a menu’. It’s all about sharing special memories in cake form with your guests so think about something that takes you back to your childhood, reminds you of your first date or connects you to your favourite place.

Offering an experience

Going above and beyond, some to-be-weds are forgoing the single cake in favour of a full flavour experience, from welcome baskets full of delicious (and meaningful – see above!) treats to creative and mouthwatering patisserie tables.

Cake top forward

‘Cake top forward’ may not be the most catchy of names but it does what it says on the tin. Dreamed up by a dessert parlour in California, the technique is all over Insta and Pinterest and is quite simply a tier of your cake turned on its side. That means the top faces forward and it gives you a chic, modern, moon shape that looks oh-sosophisticated in photos. We love it – and your guests will too!

Pretty pressed flowers

A hangover from the floral shortages experienced during the pandemic, we’ll see 2022 couples using pressed flowers as cake décor. A great way to add colour, just make sure to ask your florist what’s in season and which blooms are okay to add to food items.

Separated tiers

Rewind to the ‘90s… We’re likely to see visible pillars supporting each sweet layer this year, making taller and more impactful cake towers. Leave the space blank or fill it with something to fit your theme – fresh fruit or blooms that match your bouquet? ♥
