All About Us

After feigning surprise when William Lawton popped the question, Ellie Inch took her time planning a super-meaningful wedding for her and her fiancé. From the gorgeous natural décor and Lord of the Rings touches to the pure princess vibes and firework finale, these weekendlong nuptials at Raemoir House couldn’t have been any more personal to the twosome…

“Will proposed during a trip to Glencoe… But I’d already spotted the ring box in his pocket so knew it was going to happen. He had to tell me to be quiet for two minutes while he did his speech and asked the question!

When we got engaged, the pandemic was still going on and we didn’t know what would happen so we gave ourselves more than three years to plan. It meant we could save up too. But a year in, things had calmed down and we pulled the wedding forward a year.

I planned everything myself with the help of my mum and Will stepped in at the finalising stage. My first priority was finding somewhere to tie the knot that met my long list of ‘perfect venue criteria,’ and Raemoir was it. It was exclusively ours for the weekend, there was space for our whole bridal party and close friends to stay, they were really flexible in what we could do/have and they allowed fireworks, which was essential for me.

We wanted a wedding that showed little bits of our personality with nods to things we love, like Lord of the Rings and adventuring up mountains. We brought the outdoors in with lots of natural wood décor and a flower arch, and our colours were navy and burgundy with natural greenery.

I also wanted a bit of a princess vibe and knew I could get that with my dress – a big ballgown, of course – and flowers. I tried on eight dresses at my first appointment and loved number two the moment I put it on. But I thought it was just the excitement of trying on dresses for the first time so I continued shopping! I kept coming back to that gown though, so knew it was ‘The One’. The team at Avorio were perfect. They knew what I was looking for straight away and made me feel beautiful in every dress.

I’m in boots all year round so wore Fairfax & Favour boots under my dress, complete with blue tassels as my something blue and a sixpence inside for luck. My something borrowed was a pair of pearl earrings from a friend then I accessorised further with a tiara (which I hope to pass down to the next generation) and a veil longer than the dress –total princess feels!

We had two flower girls who looked angelic in twirling, sparkly dresses and tiaras, and a ringbearer – our baby nephew who was only a couple of months old.

We stayed at Raemoir the night before the big day and both had chilled wedding mornings. Despite that, I was still half an hour late to meet Will in my gown! We had a Humanist ceremony where we wrote our own vows and ended up quoting the same Lord of the

Rings line to one another – totally unplanned. Afterwards, we had photos taken and the guests feasted on a small buffet in place of canapes and starters.

The meal, provided by the venue, was great and the speeches went down well. Next up, the first dance! Our song was From Now On from The Greatest Showman and halfway through we got everyone to join us. It was a fast, fun dance and it created an amazing vibe. Our band played the rest of the evening and we were sure to incorporate some ceilidh tunes because most of our family is from England. They loved it – and I even managed to do Strip the Willow in a ballgown!

Later, we had fireworks and sparklers and this bit, standing with all our guests, was the highlight. It was the perfect way to end our wedding.”
