“These African pots are best suitable for plants that hold a considerable amount of water. They come with a hole or two at the bottom that slowly sips down when filled with loam soil. Philodendrons willdo best in these kind of pots as they prefereven moisture and does not like sitting in

wet soils.

“Available in a variety of shapes and sizes, terra-cotta pots look great just about anywhere and their earthy color will enhance the beauty of almost any plant. Made of a porous clay rich in iron, terra cotta has the ability to “breathe,” which keeps potting soils cool and wicks excess moisture away from plant roots, keeping them healthy. The main problem with using terra cotta, is that it is relatively fragile (watch for hard frosts that can crack containers) and it can dry out quite rapidly, especially in sunny locations.”

Another important piece of this watering method is using a pot with a drainage hole. Remember how I mentioned succulents don’t like to sit in wet soil for very long? It’s very difficult for the soil to dry out completely if your pot doesn’t have a drainage hole. The hole in the bottom of the pot allows for excess water drainageand away from your succulent roots. It also provides another way for air to flow through the soil and help it dry out faster.
