MOD’S FOREWORD
Early Bird has certainly started! The season is off and roaring with pricing at all-time lows and lots of customer interest which is great for us! As always the key is converting that into holidays not just enquiries, but I feel like we have never been better prepared to do it. With the launch of HOT’s new positioning, “the best holidays are created together”, followed up by the brand guarantee and then Future Fit 2 we certainly have put it all together. It was great to attend a few of the Future Fit sessions and see the focus on our customer experience, treasuring our enquiries and really working hard on changing how we ask questions and collaborate with our customers. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with a common theme being it was all starting to make sense. This was a huge highlight for me this year, as was of course the NTIA’s. On the night, to achieve what we did as a business was quite overwhelming. House of Travel, Orbit, our best consultants and top managers were all winners on the night with some very special moments. It is a great evening and a real celebration of the industry, I really recommend it as a great night out, and
IN THIS ISSUE:
yes winning does make it even better! Talking about winning, the team at HOT Victoria through our joint venture NZ Olympic Travel really made sure our athletes were in the best possible state to compete in Rio. This was a massive effort by Dave Williams and his team in very trying circumstances. The planning they put in during the years before the event meant everything was delivered at a gold medal standard earning huge praise from the NZ Olympic Committee. This was no mean feat considering the diverse needs of those involved. Orbit is having an amazing year with new customer growth, a strengthening transTasman story and now a smart new location in Dunedin too. Orbit Tauranga continues its growth gaining fantastic local support from Bay of Plenty corporate clients. Orbit Christchurch has moved as well and has state of the art offices in a fabulous new location. You will see in this issue a lot of new locations for existing and new stores, our move back to Shortland Street in Auckland from Tangihua Street, and the fresh look of these properties are really amazing. Dunedin, Ferrymead, Adventure Travel and soon a new store in
We are on the home straight now to the end of the year for the group and I know, like every year, it will be busy. We have some major bids on the go at Orbit and the market is very competitive in the corporate sector but we will continue to win in this space because we are the best at it. Keep focused in retail on delivering the best customer experience in the industry and remember, “the best holidays are created together” with House of Travel! Enjoy House Proud. Cheers MOD

Goodbye Tangihua Street Hellooooo Shortland Street! On Friday, 29 July the HOT Holdings team in Auckland said goodbye to Tangihua Street, their home for the last six years. A glass was raised to Tangihua and the staff headed on home, while an amazing team of HOTTIES spent two days shifting everything from chairs to monitors to assorted boxes of things we just couldn’t leave behind.

01 August was our first day at Shortland Street, marked with a Champagne breakfast and freshly brewed coffee thanks to Qantas. A number of the Holdings team were involved in logistics, design, celebrations and communications for the office move, as well as the IT team from Roydvale. A real team effort ensured everything arrived in the right place. The office was beautifully designed, the move was celebrated in style and noone turned up to the wrong office on Monday. Congratulations to everyone involved, particularly John Crouch and Lisa Cherguit, who project managed the move from start to finish.
Sarah Crowe the new OO for High Street Lanes
In addition to a new store and new store name, the team at High Street Lanes also has a new owner operator. After five and a half years at HOT Ferrymead, Sarah has taken the leap to become owner operator at High Street Lanes. Prior to HOT Ferrymead, Sarah spent seven years at Flight Centre, and prior to that, a number of years in hospitality in Christchurch, Sydney and London.
In mid-September HOT Addington rebranded to HOT High Street Lanes, and along with Orbit Christchurch, moved to the up and coming Innovation Precinct in Christchurch City. We were the first businesses to move into the Innovation Precinct, which is an anchor project at the heart of Christchurch’s plan to revitalise the central city post-quake.
Sarah is really excited about this inner city opportunity, which is only going to get busier and busier. She believes her team has huge scope to create new business, gain new clients (with their new dream stations) and give clients an alternative way to book travel. Having worked in Christchurch City previously, Sarah is looking forward to seeing the CBD change and evolve over time.
The Innovation Precinct is designed to create a hub for knowledge intensive and technology based innovative businesses – a perfect fit for High Street Lanes and Orbit Christchurch.
It’s been a busy start for Sarah, but a good one – a big thank you from Sarah to her team and the wider Orbit team for making her feel so welcome.

New digs for House of Travel Ferrymead - finally! After a long wait, the team at HOT Ferrymead moved into their new home on 26 September 2016. Ferrymead’s original lease was signed on 1 July 2014 and the team was due to move in by 15 July 2015, but council consents, builder and developer changes meant it was more than a year before the team finally got through the door!
Chris Hopkins’ vision of having consultants get out from behind the barrier of their desks lead to the new layout for HOT Ferrymead. Already, there has been some fantastic feedback from customers who are loving the new layout – congratulations to Mel, Kim and the whole Ferrymead team for creating a new home for Ferrymead.

Congratulations to John and his team on the start of a new era for HOT Dunedin.
A stellar effort by HOT’s New Zealand Olympic Travel In August, four years of work by the team at HOT on Victoria came to fruition as the Olympics and Paralympics kicked off. New Zealand Olympic Travel (NZOT), operated by HOT on Victoria, transported our Kiwi Olympians to Rio from their training camps in all four corners of the world – NZOT was responsible for looking after the team, the NZ Olympic Committee and Government officials, sponsors, the friends and family programme and the general public. Dave Williams made six trips
to Rio, sourcing hotels and accommodation and working on logistics with the NZ Olympic Committee. Danielle Jelley, Louise Stephens, Lynne Phillips, Chris Fifield and Nora Audra all travelled to Rio with Dave for the Olympics, managing New Zealand House and taking care of our Olympians and their friends and family. This was a huge undertaking with fantastic feedback from those who travelled with NZOT – a massive congratulations to Dave and his team for a monumental effort and an incredible result!

Adventure Travel relocates Adventure Travel Manager. “Of course we understand the need for Kiwis to travel to the likes of London, Paris, Australia, and the Pacific region, but Adventure Travel is about taking people to some of the more unique and ‘off the beaten track’ destinations. This may be exploring the depths of the Amazon jungle and ancient civilisations of South America, a camping safari amongst the wildlife in Africa, an expedition to the Arctic, or accessing Asia and the exquisite temples, secluded beaches, and remote villages,” he says.
Adventure Travel Wellington recently celebrated the relocation of their new store in Wellington in September, one week ahead of the launch of the new Singapore Airlines flights from Wellington to Singapore. Having previously shared an office with HOT Featherston Street, the move to the new Willis street store was needed to support the businesses growth and to showcase Adventure Travel’s unique proposition in the travel market in Wellington. “Wellington has many travel agents but a key difference about Adventure Travel is that our clients’ typical experience is not like most,” says Tim Cox,
Staff from Singapore Airlines were also in attendance to celebrate the store opening.

Hospice were thrilled to raise almost $8000, well over what they were expecting, with extra ticket sales and a popular raffle contributing to the amount. Paper Plus were also blown away
by the number of books sold on the night – 122 which exceeded expectations. Jo was very grateful for the sponsorship of her domestic flights and she was singing HOT praises throughout the country. Rebecca Lucas shares some highlights from her recent Rocky Mountaineer trip. We joined the Western Explorer Trip from Vancouver to Calgary and were lucky to have some pretty amazing weather along the way. The scenery was breath-taking throughout the trip, highlights were definitely the
Columbian Icefields and the scenery from Jasper through to Banff which gave us a real “Rockies experience! The service on the train and along the journey was exceptional and the hosts really made our trip a memorable experience! Lake Louise was just like all the photos you see but even better in real life.
The lake was still partially frozen and so pretty! We also had some free time in Vancouver and Calgary to see the sights including a day trip to Victoria and the Butchart Gardens which was an awesome trip!

13 HOT agents and staff went to Las Vegas with Las Vegas Tourism and Air New Zealand. Courtney Cairns from HOT Product Christchurch describes her thoughts and highlights. Las Vegas brought the movies to life for me. The incredible energy and atmosphere, amazing sights, bright neon lights and scores of people everywhere. A real eye opener was standing in the middle of The Strip and just looking around, every angle offered something different; the Eiffel Tower of Paris Hotel, the Bellagio Fountains, the Linq High Roller and the New York Skyline at New York New York Hotel. Where else could you get all of that! We had some fantastic

weather while sightseeing and the Cirque du Soleil Mystere show and Papillon Helicopter Flight over The Strip at night were a definite highlight. For others on the famil a highlight was the Grand Celebration Helicopter ride to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon which was amazing. Las Vegas is forever changing and adding new attractions, different shows, nightlife and a ton of different places to stay, it is not just all about gambling. I feel it is a place you can go back to and never get bored!

Bali June 2016 Hayley and Jody travelled around Bali in June and have shared some of their highlights.
and include all the luxuries of a comfortable hotel room. Tip: pack your swim suit in your hand luggage.
The highlight of our famil was heading out to the island Nusa Lembongan and staying the night at the Hai Tide Resort. We both absolutely loved this place and highly recommend staying the night as opposed to a day trip. We found there was so much to see and do here, from included water activities to tours of the island. The Lumbungs you stay in were just gorgeous
We loved Sanur, it was much more laidback than Kuta and Seminyak, and with lots of relaxed beachfront dining options. We found this was the area to truly relax on the beach with a great book, or hire a bicycle and explore the area along the beachfront pathway. We visited the Monkey Forest in Ubud and although I was a bit dubious about it
picturing crazy monkeys jumping out at us, we were pleasantly surprised. It was a really beautiful forest and quite peaceful to walk around. Another highlight for us was the Mountain Cycling tour through the centre of Bali, we felt this was the best way to see a real local side of Bali. The cycling was all downhill so nothing strenuous as you wind your way through peaceful villages and scenic rice fields.
Niue August 2016 Rose and Linda were fortunate enough to visit Niue for the first time in August this year. They said the experience was nothing but AMAZING!! Fakaalofa lahi atu!! Niue is definitely a special piece of paradise, known for its chasms and caves, crystal clear waters, snorkelling, diving, fishing and swimming with dolphins and whales. This is the perfect holiday if you like a bit of adventure and don’t mind walking to explore different areas. Linda and I ventured out on our own and explored
Talava Arches, Matapa Chasm and Avaiki Caves. What fantastic snorkelling!! Visiting Niue during whale season ( July-October) was incredible as we got to experience swimming with a male humpback whale. This was an experience we would highly recommend. Hearing the whale sing as you snorkel about 100m away was astounding. We swam closer and watched the whale breach about 20m away, it was just breath-taking. The tours are normally booked out so we recommend clients pre-
book prior to departure. Not only did we have a wonderful experience when exploring the sites, we made a lot of new friends on the way, bumping into the same people at popular spots. Everyone knew each other and would chat about their day which was awesome. I will definitely be returning to Niue for a holiday, but next time I’d like at least 7 nights to explore this amazing place.
New Caledonia September 2016 Janine and her HOT group experience New Caledonia. For all of us, this was our first time to New Caledonia. I can safely say we all fell in love with the destination and what it has to offer our clients. New Caledonia is unlike any other island in the pacific – with its French and Melanesian cultures it was a real eye opener for us all. The lagoon surrounding New Caledonia is World Heritage listed so there is amazing marine life here, excellent for snorkelling and diving. The food was to die for! Amazing French cuisine along with yummy cheese and wine! Anse Vata and Baie des Citrons Bays are absolutely lovely and have a real holiday feel about them. They have safe swimming bays and you will see lots of locals out and about swimming, walking or playing petanque. New Caledonia has so much to offer your clients whether they are travelling as a couple, family, group or single. You will be immersed in the French culture and have plenty to keep you busy. There are lots of water based activities in the bay and sightseeing day trips to places like Duck Island or Amadee Light house. I highly recommend travelling further afield as well, head beyond Noumea and you will truly see another side to New Caledonia and what is has to offer. - 12 -
