Cuisine Adventures from the Iberian Peninsula to the Aegean Spain Eating! The best way to discover Spain’s varied regions and the influences of different cultures. In Madrid you’ll find the oldest restaurant in the world “Sobrino de Botin”, famous for its suckling pig. Near Barcelona, is the centuriesold winery, Cavas Freixenet, see how the sparkling wine is made, and travel through the underground cellars on a miniature train.

Portugal A food lover’s paradise awaits with a wide range of culinary delights, produced with hearty, fresh ingredients from the mountains in the north to the plains in the south. Delectable fish and shellfish in the Algarve, are the key ingredients of Cataplana de Marisco, a seafood stew made with tomatoes, peppers and onions. Porto too revolves around seafood and the traditional dish of Bacalhau, salted cod, is a must try.

Settle into a taverna with a selection of tapas - cold meats, cheeses, olives, sardines, roasted veges. Wash down with a jug of Sangria, a glass of red Rioja or white Albarino from the north. Coastal Valencia is the origin of Paella, a tasty rice and seafood dish. A must try is Jamon Iberico, cured for up to 4 years, this delicious ham is from pigs found only on the Iberian Peninsula.

If you only visit one cellar in Porto, make it Taylor’s. Fabulous views to the city and complex ports. Learn how it’s made, with samples of course! Lisbon, home of the famous custard tart. Pastéis de Belém, first produced this pastry in 1837 and still follow the ancient recipe. There will be a queue but it’s worth it.

Greeks grow their own veges and fruits including the olives they press for the oil drizzled on most meals. Find a spot in the sun for a Greek Salad – tomatoes, olives, cucumber and a large chunk of feta cheese. Gyros is a deliciousness of lamb, lettuce, tomatoes, and chips rolled in a pita. Moussaka, like a pastafree lasagne, covered with cheese and grilled.

Turkey introduced the world to kebabs. Shish kebab – marinated meat, diced on a skewer and chargrilled; Döner kebab – rotating meat, shaved and served on rice or as a popular street food in a pita; Kofte (meatballs), are sandwiched between chunks of eggplant on a skewer and grilled creating a Patlıcanlı kebab. If you like eggplant, şakşuka and baba ganoush are two must eat mezes. You’ll find cheese in triangles of filo, Tiropites; cheese in fried balls, Sfougata; cheese deep fried, Saganaki… Greek yogurt is awesome, try it mixed with cucumber and garlic as tzatziki, for a fresh dip. In Athens enjoy a cocktail at sunset with views of the Acropolis. On the islands lounge back in a seaside taverna with your toes in the sand, a glass of ouzo in hand and octopus drying on lines nearby.

Sit back with a Turkish coffee – it’s brewed strong, thick, with sugar and cardamom, best served with a fresh piece of Turkish Delight or baklava. To navigate through the abundance of street vendors and ‘meyhane’ (Turkish tapas bar) do a food tour in Istanbul. You’ll discover local bakery delights, roasted kebabs, delicious meze, accompanied by the traditional aniseedflavoured raki. 3

6 Tips for your Holiday

Short power naps are often taken in the early afternoon, typically after a lengthy lunch. Most businesses will close for a couple of hours, with families returning home to share a full meal together before taking an afternoon kip. This is partly due to the scorching mid-afternoon sun, which can get too hot for conducive work. By 4pm, businesses are ready to reopen and will often stay open well into the evening, when the nights, although balmy, are more agreeable.

1 / TAPAS TO PINTXOS AND MEZZE European dining is a social affair. Devouring what Kiwis would refer to as shared plates, they are traditionally known as tapas and mezze and are designed to encourage conversation. Tapas is essentially a variety of hot and cold dishes, best described as finger foods that are shared between diners. This could be while sitting at a sophisticated restaurant, or more commonly, while hunched over a bijou bar with friends. Similarly, pintxos (literally translates as thorns or spikes) is so-called because the bite-size foods are eaten with a cocktail stick; the shape of which indicates the price, and when you’re full, you simply pay by the number of skewers you’re left with. Mezze, albeit Turkish, is similar to Spanish tapas, with plenty of olives, feta, falafel, hummus and heavenly dips.

2 / MUSIC AND DANCE Europeans love to dance! By nature, the locals are both passionate and energetic, resulting in gregarious street parties. Flamenco’s home is Seville, in the heart of Andalucia, while next door, in Portugal, Fado music can be heard wafting through the narrow lanes of Bairro Alto’s old town. It mostly tells of heartbreak, but its melancholic notes are particularly stirring. Zorba, Greek belly dancing, can be found in both Greece and Turkey. This former folk dance is a mixture of fast and slow movements, with beguiling costumes and manoeuvres.

5 / ART AND DESIGN Whether you find it wacky or extraordinary, the works of Dalí, Picasso and of course, Antoni Gaudí are forever fascinating. Visit Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia for a moment of sheer astonishment, or Parc Güell for equally impressive works on a smaller scale. Art lovers should weave both Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and Valencia’s The City of Arts Sciences into their agenda. For architecture, Greece and Turkey have archaeological treasures littering every city, town and village. While in Portugal, marvel at the Azulejos (Portuguese ceramic tiles), they adorn Portugal’s charming townships, and they are quite simply beautiful.

4 / FEISTY FESTIVALS La Tomatina festival is the world’s largest tomato fight. Occurring annually on the last Wednesday in August, the little town of Buñol plays host to a gigantic food fight. For those with nerves of steel, the Running of the Bulls is held 7 July through the streets of Pamplona, and the Las Fallas Fire Festival, held in Valencia every March, encourages the neighbourhoods to build towering statues stuffed with fireworks. These statues (or ninots) can take months to construct, and then, once placed in strategic positions across the city, are set off over four nights.

In Istanbul, you can peruse one of the oldest covered markets in the world, the infamous Grand Bazaar; a labyrinth of 60 streets and 5000 shops. Look out for one of the four main gates situated at the ends of its two major streets, otherwise you’ll get stuck inside for a decade. In Barcelona, look out for La Boqueria. A market for foodies, it’s crammed with butchers, fishmongers and greengrocers; loud sellers and even louder buyers; those cooking for a few, and those cooking for a few hundred; La Boqueria provides many Catalan restauranteurs with their produce. For touristy items, Greece’s Monastiraki Flea Market sells everything. Visit on a Sunday when the locals go, but leave by 11am - before the crowds become suffocating.

Perfect for longer stays but also ideal for families and groups of friends who want a little extra privacy.

Madrid Madrid, Spain’s already beautiful, feisty capital is being further invigorated, the aim being a cosmopolitan centre to rival the world’s best. The development is not all bricks and mortar – Madrid is now officially one of the “greenest” cities in Europe, with flowers, fountains and trees springing up everywhere. What is unchangeable however, is Madrid’s cultural heritage: the Prado Museum houses one of the world’s greatest art collections, including masterpieces by Velasquez and Goya. The medieval Plaza Mayor is the place to be seen in the evening, order sangria and watch the passing parade. Browse in El Rastro, a flea market bursting with intriguing bric-a-brac. Save up energy for the evening though, because this is when Madrid comes alive.

Our favourite things to see and do Prado Museum – For art lovers. Home to some of Spain’s most famous artists like Goya, Dalí and Gaudí as well as some of the world’s best like Picasso.

Shopping – Try Gran Via and Calle de Serrano for great shopping. El Corte Ingles, the Spanish department store chain, sell everything and the best sale time is May-July. Or stroll down Calle de Serrano for some excellent shoe shopping.

The Rastro Flea Market – It’s a popular visit on a Sunday Segovia

Flamenco – For a truly memorable experience book the dinner and show at Torres Bermejas. The dancers are passionate and you can’t help but be swept up in their emotional performance.

Our favourite things to see and do Sagrada Familia – This giant stunning Basilica, one of Gaudí’s greatest creations, started in 1882, is unfinished and has been under construction ever since.

Las Ramblas – A wide avenue running 1.2 kilometres north from the waterfront. Famous for its street stalls where you can buy everything from lottery tickets to jewellery. Alive with buskers, living statues, mimes and the itinerant.

Gothic Quarter – The nucleus of old Barcelona. It’s a maze of interconnecting streets linking squares. Lots of cafés and bars as well as home to Barcelona Cathedral.

Park Güell – A Mr Güell commissioned Gaudí to build this magical park for local aristocracy with its amazing buildings, sculptures and tile work. It’s fantastic to wander around, you’ll need half a day but it is worth it.

Montjuic – This is a hill overlooking Barcelona and you can take the funicular up to the La Pedrera

top. Why not go for a swim in the 1992 Olympic Games pool. It has some of the most stunning views overlooking the city.

The Waterfront – Before the 1992 Olympics, Barcelona cleaned up its waterfront area, tearing down old warehouses and buildings, replacing them with a fun esplanade and marina area which is a great spot for cycling or walking by day and dining by night.

La Pedrera – Another Gaudí masterpiece – a combined apartment and office block which looks like it should be at Disneyland. You can tour the building and go up onto the roof. There is also a small museum dedicated to Gaudí’s work.

La Font Màgica – In front of the Palau Nacional and not to be missed. You must go when it is dark for the best effect, it’s amazing and best of all it’s free. You can get a great view of the Palace, which is also illuminated at night.

La Boqueria – Don’t miss the La Boqueria, one of Europe’s oldest food markets, crammed with seafood, fruit, vegetables and sweet treats. It’s best to visit the market early in the day to avoid the bustling crowds.

Tapas – These are more than just snacks in Andalucia. The word literally means a lid and was thought to have come from the habit of having a few nibbles with a drink and then placing a saucer of tapas on top of the glass to keep the flies out. Eating one or two tapas with a glass of sherry or wine will enhance the taste experience!

Flamenco Dance – Experience the passion, romance and vibrant colours of this mesmerising dance. Join in with the locals, snap your fingers, stamp your feet and immerse yourself in the wonderful culture of Flamenco.

Mezquita – The chief monument of Córdoba is the Mezquita (cathedral-mosque) dating back to the 10th century. Today the mosque can be visited throughout the year.

Balearic Islands In the Mediterranean Sea off the east coast of Spain sit the Balearic Islands. The historic Camino de Santiago is an epic journey on foot across the North West of Spain, following the pathways of European priests, monarchs and peasants whose pilgrimages to the tomb of St James at Santiago de Compostela, spawned a Christian Renaissance.

The Northern Route is a beautiful walk along the Cantabrian Sea coastline. Lining the route are charming fishing villages, beautiful seaside resorts, the rugged peaks of the Picos de Europa and classic towns, rich in art and history.

Travel to the stunning region of Andalucia; sun, incredible culture, amazing beaches and beautiful towns make Andalucia and Costa del Sol unique destinations.

Day 1: San Sebastián This seaside city is a renowned foodies paradise. Stroll down the Playa de la Concha and try some of the best pintxos in Spain.

Day 1: Madrid – Córdoba – Seville Depart Madrid and head south along the land of Don Quixote “The man from La Mancha”, past vast vineyards, and into Andalucia, a region with enormous heritage from a splendorous past. First stop is Córdoba where you can see the impressive Mosque, built during the Muslim empire then converted into a Catholic cathedral. After a tour of this city on to Seville for two nights.

It was one of the busiest trunk roads in Europe during the 12th and 13th centuries when between 500,000 and two million devotees each year, from every part of Europe, walked, rode, or were carried along the ‘Camino’ to Santiago de Compostela. Today, walkers take approximately a month to complete the 800-kilometre journey from Roncesvalles Pass on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees or Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the French side. There are five stages. You can choose to do all five or only one or two. Stage 1: St Jean Pied de Port – Logrono (160km 9 days/8 nights) Begin your journey from the Spanish side of the majestic Pyrenees. Stage 2: Logrono – Burgos (119km 7 days/6 nights) Walk through vineyards and orchards of Rioja.

Andalucia, Costa del Sol & Toledo 5 days/4 nights

Day 2: San Sebastián – Getaria (25km) Leave the Bay of Biscay and follow the coastline along grassy fields, past the Roman Church of San Martin de Tours and ancient whaling villages. Arrive in Getaria perched on a rock above a small harbour. Day 3: Getaria – Deba (18km) Follow the coast on a quiet rural road, then take a small path into farmland. Stop at the church of Santa Maria la Real, then through the village of Juan Sebastián Elcano before descending to a coastal retreat. Day 4: Deba – Markina (23km) Leave the coast for more mountainous landscapes. Cross a river, climb into dense vegetation and pass through delightful villages.

Stage 3: Burgos – Leon (156km 10 days/9 nights) Admire the stained-glass windows of Leon’s magnificent cathedral.

Day 5: Markina – Gernika (25km) Follow a country lane, cross a river, then climb to the medieval monastery of Zenarruza. Continue up through woodland to the top of Gontzegarai then descend to a river and the historic town of Gernika.

Stage 4: Leon – O’Cebreiro (149km 9 days/8 nights) A high route dotted with classic stone villages, churches and convents.

Day 6: Gernika – Lezama (21km) Pass Santa Luzia Zallo before a steep climb. Follow a cobbled path to the village of Morga then descend along scenic tracks and roads.

Stage 5: O’Cebreiro – Santiago de Compostela (153km 9 days/8 nights) The final stage, end at the shrine of St James in the magnificent cathedral at Santiago de Compostela.

Day 7: Lezama – Bilbao (14km) Cross farmland, then climb Mount Avril for views of Bilbao and the valley. In Bilbao, visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Begon, Place de Unamuno and the Guggenheim Museum.

Day 2: Seville On a morning tour you will see the Santa Cruz Quarter and the remarkable architecture of the Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Spend the afternoon exploring everything this city has to offer and this evening experience an optional Flamenco show. Day 3: Seville – Ronda – Costa del Sol First stop Ronda, admire the bridge linking the old and new towns across the deep gorge. Then it’s on to the beaches of Costa del Sol. Day 4: Costa del Sol – Granada Today Granada, the last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdoms up to 1492. Visit the world famous Alhambra, its buildings, towers, palaces, patios and gardens make it one of the most visited monuments in Spain. Day 5: Granada – Toledo – Madrid Return to Madrid via the World Heritage City of Toledo, the “city of three cultures” where medieval Christian, Moorish and Jewish communities lived together peacefully and where you can see churches, mosques and synagogues in the historic quarter. Visit a Damasquinado factory before returning to Madrid.

Lisbon The views from the ramparts of the Castle of St George are among the best on offer in a city where spectacular views are practically a dime a dozen. You may prefer to scale the 28-metre Monument to Christ to look back across the Tagus River at the city, or the Discoveries Monument for a bird’s eye view of Belem. Lisbon’s World Heritage-listed sites pay tribute to its seafaring past: Belem Tower was a starting point for many of the Voyages of Discovery from the 16th century onwards, and Jeronimos Monastery contains countless motifs of explorations.

Our favourite things to see and do Bairro Alto – The cobbled twisting lanes of this working-class quarter date back to the 16th century and have been the home to the city’s bohemian haunt of artists and writers. Filled with bars and restaurants, tourist-packed Fado houses, it’s great for nightlife.

Alfama – Time has stood still here, washing hangs out to dry from balconies, caged birds are brought outside for some air, and in the evenings the strains of Fado waft out from cafés. The maze of medieval alleys and streets are carved into the hillside.

Pastéis de Belém – These delicious custard tarts have been made here by hand since 1837 using an ancient recipe from the Jerónimos Monastery. These are the original Pastéis de nata.

Fado – This music is melancholic and the essence of Portugal. Fado means fate, and its songs tell of heartbreak and longing.

Dining Experience at a José Avillez restaurant – A great Portuguese chef with several restaurants in Lisbon and Porto, our favs are Barrio do Avillez, Mini Bar and Michelin star Belcanto.

Castle of St George – Climb the hill or take tram 28 to visit this castle on top of the tallest of Lisbon’s seven hills for spectacular views over the city. The oldest parts date back to the 6th century and inside the walls are promenades, gardens, houses and a church.

Riverside Dining at Doca de Alcantara – Under the River Tagus Bridge, these old barns once used for boating equipment have been converted into magnificent restaurants and bars. Walk or tram up to a Mirador – There are many amazing viewpoints in the city, Miradouro de Graça has views over the city and the castle, is an open-air café, and a favourite with locals especially late afternoon.

Porto The heart of the city is the Ribeira district, the rambling old town is a UNESCO World Heritage-site and is filled with ancient houses, beautiful buildings adorned with tiles, family run restaurants, cafés and bars, and sloping narrow cobbled streets. The Douro river meanders through the city, and is crossed by magnificent bridges joining Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. Port wine is produced in this region and is still stored and matured in vast cellars in Gaia that stretch along the banks of the river Douro.

Our favourite things to see and do Ribeira – Lose yourself in Porto’s historic centre and wander along the river marvelling at the amazing buildings. See the boats pull up to the banks, carrying barrels of wine, then stop at one of the many cafés to watch an amazing sunset.

Visit a Port House – Cross the river to Vila Nova de Gaia and do a tour and tasting of one (or more!) of the many Port Houses. You will learn about the history of Port wine, its production today, the Douro Valley and see the cellars, before a tasting.

Dine on Seafood in Matosinhos – Take a bus or the metro out to Matosinhos, a fishing and port town, known for its fish restaurants and beautiful sandy beach. Fresh fish is sold in the morning market, then is grilled for you at one of the many restaurants – choose your seafood and watch them BBQ it.

Azulejo tiles – Dating back to the 13th century Azulejos came with the Moors. You can see them decorating all kinds of public and private buildings, both inside and out. Some are beautiful simple tiles, others tell stories. Visit the 19th century São Bento Railway Station and see the 20,000 Azulejo tiles decorating the walls portraying scenes of Portuguese history, daily life and transportation.

Café Majestic – Have coffee in the most elegant café in Porto. Inspired by the French Belle Epoque, this café still has the charming grandeur of the old world.

Livraria Lello Bookshop – Visit one of the most magnificent book shops in the world. The neo-gothic architecture, stunning design, intricate decoration and volumes of books are incredible, but the centrepiece is the beautiful red art nouveau staircase, said to have inspired the one in Hogwarts. Francesinha – Porto’s iconic dish the Francesinha is not for the faint hearted, it is a ‘sandwich’ of sorts which contains sausage, ham, beef, is covered with cheese and a special tomato based sauce with beer and piri piri hot sauce. Sometimes it comes topped with a fried egg. Bring your appetite!

Porto Tonico – Porto’s answer to the Aperol Spritz or G&T is White Port (of course!), poured over ice and topped with tonic water and a slice of citrus. A very refreshing aperitif.

Clérigos Tower – Climb the 225 steps up Clérigos Tower, once the tallest building in Portugal. The tower itself is quite impressive, in Baroque style with influences of Tuscan bell towers, but the panoramic views over the city are incredible.

Highlights worth seeing along the way Castelo de Vide – Market day is on a Friday when the town transforms from a relaxed to a very vibrant place with locals selling their produce, everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to fish, cheese and ceramics. Bom Jesus do Monte – On the outskirts of Braga, is this pilgrimage site with a magnificent 166 metre Baroque stairway. It is perched high on a hillside surrounded by gorgeous gardens and hidden grottoes and is accessible by funicular, by car or on foot. Temple of Diana, Evora – Not to be missed is this Roman structure dating from the 1st or 2nd century AD. It is stunning in the evening light. Pena Palace, Sintra – Built in 1840, this is definitely worth seeing. However we recommend you pre book tickets in order not to miss out. You can visit the park and palace terraces or pay a little more and get into the State Rooms inside the Palace. Some Local Specialties – Sardinhas Assadas (Grilled Sardines) and Bacalhau (Salted Cod Fish) served with salads are the main delights from the ocean whilst Pasteis de Nata (Custard Tarts) are a ‘must-have’. Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto – Cross the famous metal arched Dom Luis I Bridge (over the Douro) and meander through the wine stores that house the famous port wines. Athens The Greek capital can sometimes be outshone by its famous islands but Athens has charms of its own. It is also the hub for exploring the rest of Greece. No-one should miss the Acropolis. The splendid ruins that include the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike dominate not only Athen’s skyline but also its soul. Nearly 3000 years ago the Acropolis became a sacred site and since then it’s been surrounded in myth, legend and tides of wars and invasion. At the base of the Acropolis lies the Plaka, one of the most eye-catching districts of Athens, a labyrinth of tavernas, shops and leafy squares. Buy a custard-filled galaktoboureko pastry and climb Lykavittos Hill (or cheat and take the funicular) for a spectacular view of the city.

Our favourite things to see and do The Acropolis and The Parthenon – The massive rocky hill that’s the Acropolis dominates the cityscape and is visible from all over Athens. On top of it is the Parthenon, one of the most recognisable buildings in the world.

Syntagma Square – Also known as Constitution Square it’s the heart and soul of the city. It’s the perfect place to relax on the benches and do a spot of people watching, enjoy the free or plan your day’s activities.

Going out for dinner – Remember the Greeks eat late, sometimes starting as late as 10pm and not winding up till after 1 or 2am!

Changing of the Guard at The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier – Every Sunday at 11am, the official changing of the guard is quite possibly the best show in town. The Evzones (guards) go about the change with high kicks and fists to foreheads with such determination. There are changes every hour during the day, and while the soldiers guard they must stand perfectly still until it is time to change.

Hadrian’s Arch – Erected in honour of the Roman emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, this arch is located near the Temple of Olympian Zeus, but, as it’s outside the archaeological site, it’s free to view.

Temple of Olympian Zeus – Once the largest temple in Greece, it is also known as the Olympieion. It’s right in the centre of Athens and dedicated to the god Zeus.

Dive underground into the spooky Basilica Cistern and then brace yourself for the Grand Bazaar. There are 3000 shops in here and the locals are very keen to sell you something! While away an afternoon in the teahouse beneath the walls of the Topkapi Palace and count the ferries plying the Bosphorus and the ships sailing towards the Black Sea. At sunset the fishermen on the Galata Bridge head home just as Istanbul’s skyline forms a glowing silhouette of domes and minarets.

Our favourite things to see and do Topkapi Sarayi (Palace) – Home of the Ottoman sultans for nearly 400 years, The Treasury in the 3rd courtyard is amazing. Get there when it opens at 9am and go straight to the Harem. Only a certain number of visitors are allowed at one time, so get there first to avoids the queues.

Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya) – Said to be one of the great buildings of the world, it’s a former Byzantine church, a former Ottoman mosque, and now a museum.

The Blue Mosque (Mosque Of Sultan Ahmeti) – One of the city’s premier sights, it’s called the Blue Mosque because of its light blue interior tiles. You can visit at most times of day and it’s free. Avoid all mosques on Fridays as this is the Muslim holy day and mosques can be closed for lengthy amounts of time for prayers.

Grand Bazaar – Turkey’s largest covered market sells all kinds of things like beautiful Turkish carpets, glazed tiles and pottery, copper and brassware, leather goods, meerschaum pipes and alabaster bookends. Try out your haggling skills.

Hammams (Turkish Baths) – For something a little different why not try a Turkish Bath. You’ll be pulled and pushed, rubbed and scrubbed to within an inch of your life, but you’ll come out feeling wonderful. Ephesus

Bosphorus Cruise – By far the best way to view the city of Istanbul is by boat on the Bosphorus, the most impressive sights being along the southern shores. Please read these booking conditions carefully CONSUMER GUARANTEES ACT The guarantees under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 will apply to services supplied by us except where they are acquired, or held out as being acquired for business purposes. 1. OUR SERVICES AND OBLIGATIONS 1.1 House of Travel Ltd (‘we” or “us” as the case may be) supply services consisting of arranging and co-ordinating travel facilities and services, and making bookings and issuing vouchers to be redeemed by suppliers of travel, entertainment, and accommodation facilities or services (“Suppliers”). House of Travel Ltd is part of the House of Travel group. 1.2 We undertake to perform these services with reasonable care and skill. We will not be liable for any loss or damage which results from the act, default or omission of any person other than ourselves, our employees or agents, or any cause independent of human control. This includes (but is not limited to), loss or damage which arises directly or indirectly from any act of God, weather disruptions, dangers incidental to the sea, fire, breakdown in machinery or equipment, acts of Governments or other authorities de jure or de facto, wars whether declared or not, hostilities, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, deaths, pilferage, epidemics, quarantines or medical or customs regulations. 1.3 We are not able to exercise control over services we do not supply directly, therefore we will not be responsible for any loss or damage arising from: • Any booking made directly with a service Supplier by your travel agent, or • Any services which are not directly provided by us and which are additional to those recorded in clause 1.1 above. 1.4 We will endeavour to provide the most suitable travel arrangements to meet the particular requirements you make known to us. However, travel is an individual experience, and your preferences and opinions may vary from our own. For this reason, we cannot take responsibility for your individual satisfaction. 2. SUPPLY OF TRAVEL, ENTERTAINMENT AND ACCOMMODATION SERVICES AND FACILITIES 2.1 When we make bookings with Suppliers, we are acting as a booking agent for such Supplier. 2.2 All travel, entertainment, and accommodation facilities or services are supplied directly to you by the Suppliers. We have no control over the facilities or services themselves, or the manner in which they are provided by the Suppliers. Therefore you should be aware of the following conditions: • We will not be liable for any loss or damage of any kind which may arise from your use or consumption of, or inability to use or consume those facilities or services. • The provision of those facilities or services is subject to the terms and conditions of your contract with each Supplier. • Where for any reason, a Supplier is unable to provide particular facilities or services, then that Supplier may be entitled, under its contract with you, to substitute those services or facilities with comparable or equivalent facilities or services without incurring any liability to you. You should check your contract with each Supplier. • All facilities or services described by us are subject to availability from the Supplier. • We will not be liable or responsible for any loss or damage relating to your baggage, personal possessions, health or welfare, or delays or travel disruptions unless these arise directly from the service we provide to you. 3. BUSINESS PURPOSES You agree that where our services are acquired for business purposes, or where you hold yourself out as acquiring our services for business purposes, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 will not apply to any supply of goods or services made under these conditions, and we will not be liable or responsible for any loss or damage of any kind to you, including any consequential loss or damage however it may be caused. 4. INFORMATION IN THIS BROCHURE 4.1 While we attempt to ensure that the contents of this brochure are correct, accurate, and up to date at the time of printing, the contents of this brochure are drawn from information supplied to us by Suppliers. We do not have, and cannot be reasonably expected to have, personal knowledge about all of the facilities or services provided by each Supplier. 4.2 Facilities or services may change after the date of printing. We endeavour to keep travel agents informed of any changes to information in this brochure which are brought to our attention. Prior to completing your booking, you should ask your travel agent whether they are aware of any changes to the published information. You should also make sure that if

your travel agent is advised of changes which occur after booking, your travel agent is able to contact you. 4.3 Maps and Photographs: Maps are shown for general information and may not necessarily reflect actual routings, locations or services provided. Photographs may show places in the geographic area which are not included in your booking. Hotel room photographs may not be the actual room occupied. 4.4 Property Information: Descriptions featured in this brochure are drawn from information provided by our Suppliers. Any facilities or services shown are subject to change at any time. Please advise your travel agent if you have any special requirements. 4.5 Room Bedding: Based on existing bedding in the room. Requests for specific bedding arrangements must be made at the time of booking but can not be guaranteed. For example, twin share may consist of single beds or a shared double bed. 4.6 Rental Cars: We cannot guarantee to provide a particular model or colour within the car category. Availability of car categories is subject to confirmation at the time of booking. We reserve the right to substitute different models. If a vehicle is returned prior to the end of the reserved rental period or if the vehicle is picked up later than the reserved date, NO REFUND will be made for unused rental days

8.3 We strongly recommend that you insure yourself fully against cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. See Section 10. 9. RESERVATION AMENDMENTS We are happy to incorporate any reasonable amendments you request. An amendment constitutes a change to an existing booking and will attract a $25 fee per amendment prior to final payment and the issuing of the travel documents, and a $50 fee per amendment after travel documents have been issued. These fees are to cover administration and communication costs. You may also be required to pay any Supplier imposed fees. 10. INSURANCE We strongly recommend that you insure yourself fully against cancellation, loss of luggage and personal property, and medical expenses. Your travel agent will be able to provide you with further information. 11. ITEMS NOT COVERED Unless otherwise specified, the cost of airfares, meals, drinks, laundry, insurance, sightseeing, transfers, local taxes, airport departure taxes, Airline imposed insurance levies, passenger service charges and Passport or Visa application fees are not included.

5.1 The prices provided are a guide only based on low season, per adult share twin and are correct at the time of printing. The actual price may differ to that indicated due to currency fluctuations, special events, trade shows or peak periods. Prices for tours are based on per adult per tour for share twin based on low season travel. Prices for cruises are per person for the complete cruise based on the lead-in cabin category on a low season sailing.

For all holidays in this brochure you will require a valid passport. You are responsible for arranging your own passport, visa and health requirements including inoculation. You should check with your travel agent who will be able to provide you with the necessary information.

5.2 We will guarantee the price of the portion of the booking as processed by us, against currency fluctuation for a period of seven (7) days from the time of confirmation of the booking; note: special conditions apply for cruise bookings. It is the responsibility of your travel agent to advise you of the date of confirmation. If your booking remains unpaid after the seven (7) day guarantee period it will be subject to currency fluctuation, up to the time full payment is received by us. 5.3 Events beyond our control, such as changes to the prices of aviation fuel or changes to the cost of services or facilities may result in the prices charged to you being different from those shown in the brochure. You should check all prices with your travel agent before making reservations, and before ticketing. 5.4 Prices may also be liable to variation between the time of booking and the date of departure due to events beyond our control. Due to unforeseen events we reserve the right to vary the price up to the time of your departure. 6. HOUSE OF TRAVEL ACCOMMODATION RATINGS To assist you with the selection of your accommodation, we have created our own rating system allowing you to compare each property. Please note that these gradings are to be used as a guide only and may alter throughout the year due to a change of circumstances. When selecting your accommodation please note that the overall quality of properties in the UK & Europe is generally lower than equivalent priced properties in other countries, particularly in the lower ratings. In general the room sizes are quite small and can vary, even within one property. Please check with your House of Travel consultant to ensure you get the property that best suits your needs. 7. PAYMENT 7.1 A non-refundable deposit will be required by your travel agent and must be paid at the time of booking. This is in addition to any deposits imposed by Suppliers. 7.2 A communication charge may be made for bookings requested less than 72 hours prior to departure. 7.3 Final payment must be made in full before we can release travel documents (including tickets). 8. CANCELLATION 8.1 If you wish to cancel your booking for any reason, you must advise us in writing through your travel agent as soon as possible. 8.2 If you cancel your booking or any part of your booking, we will impose a cancellation fee in respect of each person travelling under that booking. You must also pay all cancellation fees imposed by Suppliers and your travel agent. These cancellation fees are required to offset booking, communication, and administrative charges which have already been incurred by us, Suppliers and your travel agent. Cancellation fees imposed by Suppliers and travel agents are beyond our control and you should check with your travel agent regarding what cancellation fees may be applicable.

13. NON-USE OF SERVICES OR FACILITIES If, of your own choice, you decide not to use part or parts of the arranged services or facilities, you will not be entitled to a refund from us (provided we have carried out our service with reasonable skill and care and to your requirements) and you may not be entitled to a refund from any Supplier. 14. HEALTH OR DISABILITY Some Suppliers may reserve the right to refuse to carry or accommodate people who because of a health condition or disability may require services or facilities to be provided in a special manner. You should check this with your travel agent. 15. SERVICE SATISFACTION During your holiday, if you encounter any situation where the service supplied to you does not meet your satisfaction, please take the matter up with the Supplier immediately. Your contract for each service is with the Supplier. If this is not possible immediately, or if you are still dissatisfied, please contact your travel agent. Both we and your travel agent will endeavour to investigate on your behalf and to negotiate with the Supplier to resolve the matter as soon as possible, so that you continue to enjoy your journey. 16. LEGAL CLAIMS Any claims or legal action in connection with the provision of our services to you will be governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any claim or legal action against the Suppliers is likely to be subject to the terms of your contract with them, and may be governed by the laws of other countries.
