Comments on Research Outlines Commendations: • Interesting stories in your outlines – many of you have them; reminder to include if you don’t have it. • Thesis statements are strong for the most part. Make them provocative and clear. • Most are organized well and are well supported. Argh: • Took me WAY longer if they were done incorrectly! • This will be the case with your research paper as well. Citations: • First word of title only • Page number, not source number • Distinguish between entries with same first word of the entry– if same author and same web site but different article, for example, (Last Name of Author, “First Word of Article”) Structure of the outline: • Every A needs a B; every 1, a 2; etc. • Parallelism and Topic / Sentence were big point drops Works Cited: • Should be a separate page • Works Cited mistakes should not be occurring at this stage – look at your packet! Ask someone else to check it! • I didn’t take off for this, but only list it in your Works Cited if you have it in your paper. Action Points: • You will have to correct this to reflect your final research paper and include it in the folder. • If you made less than an 80, I will let you redo this for half the points back, up to an 80.
