Preliminary Thesis and Rough Outline For next class, you will need to write a preliminary thesis statement and rough outline with 2-­‐3 points (as if you were going to write an APC paper with 2-­‐3 chunks) for your research paper. The thesis statement should meet the criteria discussed in class in the Thesis Workshop. It should have the following: ____a) your topic ____b) significance: how it affects humanity, literature and / or the arts ____c) arguability ____d) strong, active verb in the appropriate tense(s) ____e) appropriate scope ____f) organization: it maps out your essay ____g) clarity Look at your research note cards, particularly your headings. Organize the cards and look for patterns. Write your preliminary thesis statement here: After you write your thesis, check off the criteria above.
