COMMENTARY

Jesse Jackson

National Writer

Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on,” goes the refrain of a famous song from the civil rights movement. We marched for freedom - for new laws that would end segregation, guarantee equal rights, enforce voting rights, and provide affirmative actions to help correct decades of being locked out or left out. We couldn’t let lunatic sheriffs or Klan rallies or jail distract us. We had to keep our eyes on the prize and hold on. That advice applies today where public expression of racial animus can distract from the far more serious legal reverses equal rights has suffered. First we had the rancher and conservative folk hero Cliven Bundy embarrassing himself and his rightwing allies with his foolishness about “the Negro,” suggesting that African Americans might have been “better off as slaves.” Bundy dismissed blacks as “on government subsidy.” This from a man who had fed his cows off fed-

rban Souls Dance Company, a professional dance company and non-profit social arts organization committed to bridging the gap between urban life and dance-theater, will host it’s 4th annual charity gala & fundraiser, “Dancing With The Houston Stars!”, Sunday, May 4th at The HESS Club. The highly-competitive event inspired by the hit television show, pairs Houston’s local celebrities with a selected Urban Souls dancer for a fierce competition-round of dancing. This year’s theme, “Urban Masquerade”, will showcase a full dance card of local Houston influencers, achievers and leaders ready to trade in their “day jobs” for a fun evening of toe-tapping and eye-brow raising performances in front of a live audience. Hosted by 2013 DWTHS competitor, Houston orthodontist Dr. Heather Brown and Assistant Dean, Student Programs & External Affairs at Texas Southern University, LaRence Snowden, the 2014 DWTHS cast lineup is as follows: Ayana Mack - Radio personality, multi-media socialite and DJ (97.9 The Boxx); Chris Ferguson - Director, Price Waterhouse Cooper; Erica Lee Carter – Harris Country Board Of Education Trustee; Dr. Kevin Smith – Facial Plastic Surgeon and owner of the Smith Center; Linda Lo-

Keep Your Eyes On The Prize eral land without paying grazing fees for decades, a “government subsidy” he has no intention of repaying. Then we had the tape of the loathsome and unprintable rant of LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling telling his girlfriend, who had posted a photo on Instagram of herself with Magic Johnson, “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people,” he said. When she says she admires Magic, Sterling tells her to admire him privately, “but don’t put him on an Instagram for the world to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.” Sterling, who has a bad reputation for racism, didn’t deny making the statement, only stating that the remarks aren’t “consistent with” his views. The views of these two clowns are generating a flood of press, TV commentary, satire, late night humor and more. They should be dealt with. Sensibly, leaders of the right - at least in the guise of Fox News and Senator Rand Paul - seem to be abandoning Bundy. Leading NBA figures - LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Chris Paul, Doc Rivers and many more - stepped up to denounce Sterling and urge the NBA to act. It is important that these statements be challenged. But what Sterling or Bundy say or believe doesn’t much matter in the scheme of things. There will always be people scarred by racist attitudes. We have to keep our eyes on the prize.

And that is what is happening to the law. The gang of five conservative justices on the Supreme Court has disemboweled the Voting Rights Act, making prior review more difficult. This comes as right-wing governors and legislators are passing harsh laws designed clearly to make voting harder - limiting when the polls are open, demanding official ID, purging voter files, abandoning same day registration, outlawing voting on Sunday, when black churches could organize parishioners to take their “souls to the polls.” The Supreme Court majority is continuing to roll back affirmative action, most recently endorsing a state ban on affirmative action in Michigan. The inevitable result is that African Americans will have less access to higher education, and a harder time getting through previously locked doors. Affirmative action, ironically, was the mildest reform measure. It was proposed instead of reparations and instead of quotas. Where African Americans had been locked out of colleges, factory floors or executive suites, where the informal networks of association and advantage excluded them, affirmative steps had to be taken with real effect to open doors. In Washington and state legislatures, the assault on the safety net and on opportunity continues. Twenty four states have refused to expand Medicaid even though the federal government will pay all the costs in the first years.

People of color are disproportionately the victims. Republicans just passed a budget out of the House that targets more than 2/3 of its drastic cuts from programs for poor and low wage workers. Education and training will take a big hit. Pell grants get cut. And if they have their way, in 10 years, 40 million people would be deprived of health insurance - from repealing Obamacare, privatizing Medicare and gutting Medicaid. Policing the remarks of the likes of Bundy and Sterling is necessary. We don’t want openly racist views to be acceptable in this society. But we should not focus only on two nutty postmen and lose sight of what’s going on at the post office. Bundy and Sterling embarrass themselves. The Supreme Court and Congress are making changes in the law that will deprive millions of opportunity and equal justice. We should keep our eyes on the prize, and hold on. You can write to the Rev. A Gift for You: Colon Cancer Awareness

efore 2007, I never thought much about colon cancer. Polyp was a foreign word and I had not learned the proper way to clean a catheter. But that was before the pain in her stomach. Before all the battery of tests that ruled out this and that. Before the years of knowing that something was wrong but not knowing the actual name of it. Before the doctor said, “You have colon cancer.” That was the reality of my mother. During a routine doctor’s visit she was asked if she had a colonoscopy. Like a lot of people, she said no. Since she was well over the suggested age to start colon cancer screenings her doctor quickly made her appointment. Although she was diagnosed with colon cancer, my mom was blessed that it was caught early before it metastasize. By May 2008, she was cancer free. Though she did not escape the side effects of her chemotherapy treatments. She prove to be a worthy opponent to cancer but it left her with scared lungs making it difficult for her to breathe and was difficult on her already damaged heart. So although she was a cancer survivor for 4 ½ years, cancer would in a way be the victor. My mom’s story doesn’t have to be your story or the story of someone you love. Colon Cancer is 100% preventable even though it is the leading the cause of death for cancer patients for men and women combined. One of the reasons people are succumbing to the disease is the lack of getting colon cancer screenings early enough and not paying attention to their bodies. In honor of my mother’s May 2nd birthday I am giving readers a gift that she would have wanted to give you, the facts about colon cancer. Get the knowledge that will keep both you (and the ones you love) and your colon happy for years to come.

Definition – Colon cancer is when poly(s) (a small growth of tissue in the inner lining of the colon or rectum) changes into a cancer. In the very beginning stages of cancer most people won’t know that they have it because symptoms are minimal. This is why colon screenings are so crucial. Symptoms – One could easily dismissed colon cancer symptoms on numerous other factors but don’t. It is always best to safe than sorry. Some signs/ symptoms to look for are: change in bowel habits, blood in stool, abdominal discomfort, and fatigue. Risk Factors – Age: Being older than fifty markedly increases the diagnosis of colon cancer. Please be aware that younger adults can still develop colon cancer. Personal Health History: If inflammatory bowl disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are in your pass medical history your risk of acquiring colon cancer increases because abnormal cells may develop in the colon lining. Cells could become cancerous. As result of cell growth, one would need

elicious, lean lamb shimmers with summertime flavors. This grilling season, choose lean, tender lamb as the centerpiece for your summer entertaining menu. Myths behind the meat “In my career as a cookbook author and cooking instructor, I have never seen a more misunderstood ingredient than lamb,” said Amy Riolo, award-winning author, chef, television personality and culinary educator. “While prized in most other places in the world, lamb remains a mystery to most Americans.” If you haven’t tried lamb in a while, you may be surprised by this flavorful protein. While often confused for mutton, the tougher meat of older lamb, young lamb is tender. Others may shy away from this choice protein, believing it has a gamey taste. But modern lamb is raised differently than in the past, resulting in a sweeter, succulent taste.

to be screened a lot earlier. Additional risks: Other risk factors include past family history of colon cancer (I fall into this category so people like me need to be screened at 45 years of age), inherited defective genes, and/or having a few other rare conditions. Treatment – There are three basic treatments: surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Which one you choose depends on what stage your cancer is in. My mom had surgery to remove polyps and a small section of her colon was removed where the cancer was. She also went through four months of chemotherapy to kill any cancer cells that remained. This was the best treatment option for her but it may not be for you. A discussion with your doctor and family will help in deriving the best phase of treatment. Prevention – Most will probably know the answer to this because it is pretty much the same across the board for all preventable diseases. Eating a well balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, taking in alcohol in moderation (if you consume it at all), not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight and getting plenty of exercise all decrease your risk of being diagnosis with colon cancer. Also vital is getting screened by the recommended age. On average, most people can begin screening for colon cancer at 50. However, if a family history or other risk factors, as I explained above, exist push the age up to 45. On behalf of my mom and Houston Style Magazine, I hope that you take this gift, utilize it for yourself, and pass it on to others. Houston Style Magazine is in the business of keeping you informed and wants you to experience the best years of your life. The only way to do that is to become a proactive informed advocate of making you the very best you.

Grill up goodness Chef Amy Riolo provides these tips for serving up scrumptious, savory lamb on the grill. Grilling lamb with garlic, mint and olive oil is a great way to introduce lamb for first-timers. Cut slits into the lamb meat and insert pieces of garlic cloves, then rub with oil and dried mint. Use a meat thermometer to measure the internal temperature. Lamb will continue cooking after you pull it off the grill, so it’s best to remove it about 10 degrees lower than your target temperature. Lamb is best served medium rare (145°F) or medium (160°F). All ground lamb should be cooked to 160°F. For more lamb recipes and cooking tips, visit www.leanonlamb.com, www.pinterest.com/leanonlamb or on Twitter @leanonlamb. 1 pint cherry tomatoes, cut in half 1 pound green beans, ends trimmed and cut in half 2 pounds small red new potatoes, larger potatoes cut in half For lamb: 4 cloves garlic, minced 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 2 1/2 pounds lamb loin chops (or 10 loin chops) In large bowl, whisk together yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice and zest, dill, chives, salt, pepper and cherry tomatoes; set aside. In large saucepan bring 6 cups water to a boil. Add green beans and cook until tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove with slotted spoon and add to bowl with dressing. Add potatoes to already simmering water and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain potatoes and add to bowl. Toss to coat. Combine garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper in small bowl. Place lamb chops on large tray and rub garlic oil mixture all over lamb loin chops; set aside while grill heats. On gas grill, turn all burners to high, close lid and heat until grates are hot, about 15 minutes. Scrape grates clean. Grill lamb chops about 6 minutes per side or until cooked to 145°F for medium rare. Move to clean plate and let rest 5 minutes. Toss potato salad again and serve with lamb chops.

aul Robeson Jr., son of the famed actor, singer, and Civil Rights Advocate Paul Roberson, died on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was 86 years old. According to his daughter, Susan Roberson, the cause of death was lymphoma. Roberson was an author, archivist and historian. Best remembered for honoring and defending the legacy of his father after he died in 1976. Over the years he collected his father’s correspondence, recordings and photographs, as well as his writings and films. Most can be found in an archive he established that is currently housed at Howard University’s Moorland-Spingarn Research Center. He also established the Paul Robeson Archive and the Paul Robeson Foundation. He further remembered his father by authoring two books about his legacy. “I follow in my father’s cultural tradition,” he said, “and like him, I am a black radical.” He admired his father and noted their similar political views in an interview with The New York Times in 1993 when he published his first book, “Paul Robeson Jr. Speaks to America.” His first book on his father, published in 2001, followed an earlier biography by Martin Duberman. It read “like Paul Jr.’s attempt to correct the story of his father’s life as told by Duberman,” a review in The New York Times said. “In the end, however, it adds little and omits a great deal from the earlier biography.” Since his father was though to be somewhat of a radical Roberson aimed to teach the new gen-

The show closed after 77 performances, but it returned to Broadway in 1988 and 1995, with Avery Brooks in the title role. During the first revival, Robeson said that the production had improved but added, “I still feel the character as written is a counterfeit.” Robeson served as a consultant for several films about his father, including a 1999 documentary for the PBS series “American Masters.” Born on November 2, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, Robeson was the only child of Paul and Eslanda Robeson. As a boy, he traveled with his parents to Europe and lived with his grandmother in Moscow, where he became fluent in Russian and attended the same public school. Learning Russian also helped him when he worked a Russian translator.

erations about his father’s radical politics. He also criticized those he thought misrepresented his life, including a 1978 Broadway play starring James Earl Jones, which he protested. When the play “Paul Robeson,” opened on Broadway in 1978, Robeson and several African-American leaders, including Maya Angelou and Julian Bond, published a letter in Variety calling it a “pernicious perversion of the essence of Paul Robeson.” The play, written by Phillip Hayes Dean, who died earlier this month, did not emphasize Robeson’s socialist views, they argued, in order to appeal to a mass audience.

Mia Love Close to Clinching GOP’s First African American Congresswoman

POLITICAL

By Burt Levine, Political Writer

M

ia Love overwhelmingly won her party’s nomination that sets her on track to become Utah’s first African American member of the US Congress and the Republican Party’s first black Congresswoman. Love won 78 percent of the vote to beat Salt Lake businessman Bob Fueher. “The voters did their due diligence; they didn’t go out and give me the benefit of the doubt,” Love said. “They came out and asked some really good, hard questions, and I appreciate them because they made me better. I’m honored to have their support.” Love was born in Brooklyn and recalls her father at times taking on a second job cleaning toilets to pay for school for her and her siblings. On the day of Love’s college orientation her father said something to her that would become the ethos for her life: “Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back.” Love has used these words to fuel her political career. Love warned the American dream was in danger due to the policies being passed by the federal government. She said the government had gotten too big and out of control. She said she would take Utah principles to Washington to change the way the federal government conducts its business. “It is time for us, we the people, to run towards the challenge of our day,” Love said. “I’m running for Utah. I’m running for freedom. I’m running for you,” she said following cheers that erupted when she appeared on stage and continued to get louder as

Mia Love

she made her six-minute presentation. Love pointed to federal programs such as the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, and the country’s fiscal situation as two items she would work hard to change if elected. She said it is time for America to run toward the challenges of the day. Love will now face off against Democrat Doug Owens in the general election. Owens won the

Democratic nomination at the Democratic State Convention with 98 percent of the vote. The former Saratoga Springs Mayor and famous runner, appears to now be in the driver’s seat to win the election in November when Rep. Jim Matheson, the incumbent Democrat from the US House, retires according to national pollsters, who previously declared the seat was a Republican leaning seat. Despite that belief among the so-called experts, Love said she won’t take anything for granted as she lost her last election in 2012 by 768 votes. “We are going to work hard,” she said. “I’m going to go out and earn every vote.” Love became a national party favorite after her speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention “Mia Love has been a tireless advocate for hardworking Utah families throughout her career and will bring this same dedication to Congress,” said National Republican Congressional Committee chairman Greg Walden in a statement. “With Jim Matheson’s retirement, Republicans are poised to pick up this congressional seat and there is no better candidate to lead the charge than Mia Love,” Walden said. Other GOP news seems promising for former presidential nominee Mitt Romney. The suburban Salt Lake City district is seen by many as a likely pickup for the GOP with Romney carrying the district by 37 points or 68 percent of the vote in 2012.

BOOK REVIEW The Hippest Trip in America: Soul By Terri Schichenmeyer, Literary Writer

T

Train and the Evolution of Culture & Style

hey should have called you Super-Fly. Yep, that’s what you were, dancing in front of your TV every Saturday, spinning on the carpet and waving your arms around until you got yelled at for “gonna break something.” But you were the flyest of fly. The only thing you were going to bust was a move, just like on Soul Train. And in “The Hippest Trip in America” by Nelson George, you’ll read about the iconic TV program that you never, ever missed. Everyone knew that Don Cornelius had “ambition”: he was a car salesman, policeman, and insurance agent before his “foghorn voice” led him to radio in 1966. He made the transition to TV two years later, and he soon realized there was a need for a “black” TV show. He presented the idea, then found major corporate sponsorship, and on October 2, 1971, Soul Train appeared locally in Chicago. The show was “’overnight hot’” but Cornelius knew there was more to this idea. With another sponsor on-board for a nation-wide launch, Cornelius pitched the show to the networks, but they turned it down. He decided to syndicate Soul Train and moved the show to Los Angeles. Though the music was always the focus of Soul Train, Cornelius knew that the dancers (in particular, those in the Soul Train line) were what brought viewers back. In L.A., scouts kept their eyes open for promising teens who could dance, often mining prospects from three main area clubs. Dancers performed for free and were fed chicken dinners, but the real

appeal of being a Soul Train dancer was fame and the opportunity for a career in show biz. It seemed as though every regular viewer wanted to be a Soul Train regular, too. But as much as Cornelius controlled his show

www.StyleMagazine.com

(and, to a certain extent, his dancers), he couldn’t control what happened, culturally. Early-90s fashions confounded him, music videos concerned him, and gangsta rap made him uncomfortable. And so, though the show would continue for another 13 years, Cornelius announced in 1993 that he’d step down as Soul Train host – a move that arguably meant “the show was over.” From its first pages and throughout, the word “joy” crops up often in “The Hippest Trip in America,” and for good reason: it was everywhere in the show and even more in this book. I took great joy, in fact, in seeing how author Nelson George sent me to the internet. His descriptions of what happened through the years on Soul Train made me want to see, too, and there are plenty of clips online. I also liked the interviews with former dancers and the cultural frame-of-reference included here, and the history of the show – along with little-known tidbits – made this a great (and surprisingly fast-paced) read filled with reminiscing, “love, peace, and soul.” Get out your bell-bottoms and your best dancin’ shoes, have a good internet connection, and get ready. For you, “The Hippest Trip in America” is a book you’ll want to bust out and find.

GM’s Top Designer has Always Been Career Driven

AUTO By George E. Curry

T

hough no one knew it at the time, the decision by Edward T. Welburn Jr.’s parents to take him to a local auto show in Philadelphia around the time he was learning his multiplication tables would shape the rest of his life. “I’ve been drawing cars since I was 2 ½ ,” he told a small group of journalists over breakfast here. “At age 8, my parents took me to the Philadelphia Auto Show and I walked in and there was this concept car and I pointed at it and said, ‘When I grow up, I want to be a car designer for that company.’” At 63 years old, Welburn has had plenty of time to grow up. And not only is he the top designer for General Motors, the company that designed the Cadillac Cyclone, the car that he fell in love with at the Edward T. Welburn, Jr. ripe age of 8, he is the company’s vice president for global design, responsible for the entire GM brand. Welburn is the sixth person to head GM’s design team in the company’s 106-year history and the first appointed to supervise all 10 design studios around the world instead of just North America. He is the highest-ranking African American in the automobile industry. At the time, he was first dreaming of designing cars, a period when his playmates were aspiring to become cops or fire fighters, no one told young

Welburn that there were no African Americans working as designers for GM or any other car manufacturer at that time. Even if they had, it is doubtful that they would have persuaded him to alter his plans. “My parents knew there were no Blacks de-

signing cars, that it would be a challenge to get into the field and I was on a mission,” Welburn recalled, chuckling. “They thought, ‘Well, maybe he should be a mechanic or something. No, he wants to be a car designer.’ So they did everything to help me realize that dream,” Welburn recalled several hours before speaking at the 50th anniversary summit of the 1964 Civil Rights Act at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library, where GM served as the lead sponsor. His father, Edward, Sr., who owned his own auto

LOCAL BRIEFS

mechanic shop, encouraged his son to work on his car designs; his mother, Evelyn, made sure young Ed never strayed academically. “As a kid, I was a slow reader,” Welburn remembered. “I didn’t like reading at all. My mother sent me to all kinds of special programs every weekend. Then, she discovered how I loved reading car magazines. I was age 10 when I got subscriptions to Hot Rod, Motor Trends, all of these. I would read these magazines cover-to-cover.” When he was 11 years old, Welburn wrote a letter to General Motors asking for advice on how to become a car designer. To his surprise, he got a detailed reply, including a recommendation to get a college education. Welburn did that at Howard University, graduating in 1972 from its College of Fine Arts, where he studied sculpture and product design. While enrolled as a student at Howard, he interned at General Motors. He started his career at GM in 1972 as an associate designer in the Advanced Design Studios. The next year, he joined the Buick Exterior Studio, working on the Buick Riviera and Park Avenue. In 1975, he joined the Oldsmobile Exterior. In 1989, he was promoted to chief designer of the Oldsmobile Studio. In 1996, Welburn accepted a 2-year assignment with Saturn, working mostly out of its Russelsheim, Germany studio. he Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation unveiled a plan of action to boost literacy rates across people of all ages, and is partnering with the Houston Independent School District and other organizations to make literacy a top priority. Implementation will begin this summer with the designation and training of a “literacy leader” for each campus – a designated teacher, counselor, or assistant principal who will support and monitor classroom and volunteer literacy programs. As HISD and the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation move forward to address the literacy crisis, community partners will be crucial. Several organizations are already working in Houston’s schools, volunteering time and resources to help children not only learn to read, but love to read.

NBA Bans Donald Sterling For Life, Fines Him $2.5 Million

FEATURE By Brandon Caldwell, Online Editor

V. Stiviano and Donald Sterling

N

BA commissioner Adam Silver dropped the hammer on Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling on Tuesday afternoon, banning the 81-year-old billionaire for life and fining him $2.5 million. “Accordingly, effective immediately, I’m banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clipper organization or the NBA,” Silver said. Sterling was the longest tenured owner in the NBA. “The NBA commenced an investigation which is now complete. The central findings of the investigation of the voice of the man on the recording is that of Mr. Sterling,” Silver said. “The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful. That they came from an NBA owner heightens the damage and my personal outrage.” Friday night, recordings of a conversation between Sterling and his girlfriend V. Stiviano were released to TMZ which Sterling declared disdain for his girlfriend’s interactions with black people and their attendance at Clipper games. The backlash to those recordings led to multiple comments of outrage from the likes of Magic Johnson, Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan and more. In their Game 4 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, players for the Clippers tossed their warm up jerseys onto center court, flipping their T-shirts inside out to show solidarity and protest the Clipper name by proxy belonged to Sterling. The team also chose to wear black armbands and socks as well as their Los Angeles alternate road uniforms.

Renovating? Laying a Good Foundation for Home Improvement Success

ou’ve probably heard the saying: “Your home is your castle.” But if your current home - or the home you’re thinking of buying - feels more like the servant’s quarters than the royal palace, you may need to plan a renovation. At times like these it’s easy to give in to your excitement and get the project moving forward, but take a moment to plan your overall strategy. You’ll find that, much like your future castle, your renovation project will benefit from a solid foundation. You can build your foundation by accomplishing these important tasks. Talk to a renovation specialist. Acquiring a renovation loan allows you to finance your new home mortgage and your renovation plans into a single loan. And an important aspect of the renovation loan to remember is that it’s a product in which the loan is based on the value of the home after it’s been improved. If you are renovating your existing home, you can use the loan to refinance your existing mortgage and make the renovation updates. “Many consumers are not aware of the opportunities with renovation financing because not every lender offers this option, said Bill Trees, national renovation program manager, Wells Fargo. “Wells Fargo is the nation’s leader in renovation financing. We serve all customers from first time homebuyers to repeat buyers, and have a team of specially trained

home mortgage consultants across the country that only focus on renovation lending.” Speaking with a renovation lender can help you build your financial foundation for your renovation project. Shop around for the right contractor. If you plan to use a contractor for your project, it’s important to select the right one. But how do you decide on a contractor? Research is important. Many contractors will provide you with a couple of references but this isn’t always a fool-proof solution. These references could be relatives or friends of the contractor.

www.StyleMagazine.com

References can be helpful but don’t rely on it exclusively. Dig deeper by traveling to the site of the contractor’s current job. Are the clients happy? Has the contractor’s work met expectations and budget? Has the contractor finished benchmarks on time? These are all important questions to ask. You can also inquire about the contractor’s work on social media and professional referral websites. Finalize your vision. Selecting the proper renovation specialist and contractor are key to your project, but both of these professionals will be able to provide you better service if you have a vision for what the project entails. You may not know exactly how much the project will cost, but you should have a budget in mind. If your contractor asks questions about layout or wall preferences, be ready to make the decisions and guide him or her toward your goals. Approaching the project with a plan will eliminate miscommunication and regrets later. Renovating a new or existing property can be an exciting time, and establishing the proper foundation for the project can help you pass inspections and build the home you’ve always wanted. You can learn more about how renovation financing can make your dream project a reality by visiting the Wells Fargo Home Improvement Lending Center.
