COMMENTARY
The Health Care Debate Is Long Overdue By Jesse Jackson, National Political Writer against the proposal and any candidate who supports it, and whether voters would be scared off by the attacks.
A
ffordable health care for all is now at the center of the presidential debate. Two of the top three contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination -- Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders -- support Medicare for All. The third -- Joe Biden -- and those hoping to take his place as the leading centrist in the race -- Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar -- have attacked the plan to contrast their candidacies from Sanders and Warren. Donald Trump, who wants to eliminate the Affordable Care Act itself, and has already added some 10 million people to the ranks of the uninsured, scorns it as “socialism,” just as earlier Republicans libeled Social Security and Medicare itself when they were under consideration. In 1984 and 1988, I made a single-payer Medicare for All plan central to my presidential campaign. As a policy, it has always made the most sense. The question has always been whether the politicians had the nerve to weather the fierce attack that insurance and pharmaceutical drug companies will unleash

Sanders brought Medicare for All back into the national political debate in his remarkable run for the Democratic nomination in 2016 against Hillary Clinton. The National Nurses Association and others have helped build a movement out of that momentum. Sanders has “written the bill,” and in the House, Rep. Pramila Jayapal has introduced a detailed complement to the Sanders bill. Elizabeth Warren, who signed onto the Sanders bill, now has produced a clear plan on what Medicare for All would cover, and how it would be paid for. The basic principles and values are clear and widely popular. Health care should be a right, not a privilege. No one should go without the care they need because they cannot afford it. No one should go bankrupt simply because they get sick. Yet our current health care system offends each of those principles. We spend almost two times per capita on health care as other advanced nations. If you have a lot of money or a strong union, you can get excellent health care. For the rest, care is rationed by money. Twenty-four million go without insurance, up 10 million under Trump. Another 65 million are underinsured, one serious illness away from bankruptcy. Health care costs are the leading cause of bankruptcy.
Medicare for All is popular at first look. Then the insurance and drug companies and the opponents unleash their arguments: government will mess it up, it will raise your taxes, it will take away your current insurance. Presented with that information, people’s doubts grow. So most of the opponents fly under a false flag: they lay on the arguments against Medicare for All, but claim they support health care as a human right and support some version of a public option, giving people the illusion of choice. The reality is that those plans will still leave millions without coverage and many millions more underinsured. Warren came under particular attack in the debates and the media for not detailing how she would pay for her plan (Sanders has been clear on his plan). Now Warren has answered her critics. Her plan covers the cost of Medicare for All by raising taxes on the very wealthy -- largely a 3 percent surcharge on the wealth of billionaires -- and by requiring big companies to pay almost what they now pay for providing health care to their workers. Her plan would save some $7 trillion of the $59 trillion it costs to provide health care to all over a decade, according to the Urban Institute by reducing overhead, eliminating insurance company profits, reducing monopoly and negotiating bulk discounts for drugs like every other advanced nation does. She would eliminate co-pays and premiums, returning $11 trillion to the pockets of
working people, what she hails as the largest middle-class tax cut in history. Once voters learn that under Medicare for All they can always keep their doctor, they won’t be faced with co-pays or premiums, and they will be guaranteed comprehensive health care, support begins to build back up. Now Sanders and Warren have doubled down on their argument. Warren now puts it to Biden and the other critics: “Every candidate who opposes my long-term goal of Medicare for All should put forward their own plan to cover everyone, without costing the country anything more in health care spending, and while putting $11 trillion back in the pockets of the American people,” she writes. “If they are unwilling to do that, they should concede that they think it’s more important to protect the eye-popping profits of private insurers and drug companies and the immense fortunes of the top 1 percent and giant corporations.” It’s over three decades since I sounded the call for Medicare for All. Since then, health care costs have soared faster than wages, more companies have found ways to avoid covering more workers and more people have died or gone bankrupt because they couldn’t pay for the care they needed. Now with Sanders and Warren, the debate is joined again. The naysayers say that Medicare for All isn’t popular, that voters love their insurance companies. Sanders and Warren say voters love their doctors but are getting

Three committees investigating the scandal released transcripts and summaries of closed-door interviews with the former US ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and Michael McKinley, a former senior adviser to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The move signals the start of a shift from closed-doors investigation of Trump’s covert

Ukraine policy into an attempt to convince Americans that he should be removed from office in dramatic televised hearings. Signs that the release of testimony was imminent prompted Trump to issue a torrent of personal abuse against House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff, that was extraordinarily personal even by his own standards. “House Republicans must have nothing to do with Shifty’s rendition of those interviews. He is a proven liar, leaker & freak who is really the one who should be impeached!” Trump tweeted. In the testimony released on Monday, Yovanovitch said she was shocked and felt threatened after learning that Trump attacked her on a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “bad news.” “I didn’t know what it meant. I was very concerned. I still am,” Yovanovitch said in the interview conducted on October 11. The release of testimony came after it became clear that at least six executive branch insiders due to give depositions over the next few days would not show up. But this week could still have a sting in the tail. Former national security adviser John Bolton, a fiery figure who was recently fired by Trump, is due to testify on Thursday -- though there are doubts over whether he
www.stylemagazine.com
will appear. A Bolton sighting would spark a frenzy since other witnesses have testified that he decried Trump’s decision to outsource Ukraine policy -- a caper one former senior official said he referred to as a “drug deal.” No one could be sure what Bolton might say. Would he stay loyal to his former boss or to the iconoclastic approach to foreign policy that steered him through a colorful career in Washington? “I like John Bolton. I always got along with him,” Trump said Sunday, misrepresenting his relationship with the renowned Washington bruiser in a possible sign of concern about his potential testimony. Asked whether Bolton speak up, Trump replied: “ ... that’s going to be up to him.” Democrats believe they have built a strong case that Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate a domestic rival -- Democratic 2020 candidate Joe Biden -- during weeks of depositions featuring career officials. But if executive branch officials due to testify this week do not show up, they may reach a point when there is little to be gained by holding off a more visible phase of the inquiry. Party leaders believe they already have a strong enough case to go ahead without holdout witnesses, though more evidence could further bolster their confidence.

Turner to Face Tony In Runoff for Houston Mayor
TexasTribune.org ouston Mayor Sylvester Turner is heading to a runoff against high-profile attorney Tony Buzbee in his rowdy reelection race. With all vote centers reporting Wednesday morning, Turner had 47% of the vote in unofficial returns to 28% for Buzbee. Turner was around 7,800 votes short of winning enough of the vote — over 50% — to avert an overtime round. The runoff is set for Dec. 14. Bill King, who narrowly lost to Turner in the 2015 mayoral runoff, came in third Tuesday with 14%, while City Councilman Dwight Boykins finished fourth with 6%. Turner faced 11 challengers, but only a few were seen as serious. There was massive delay in results from Harris County, where the almost-complete numbers were not released until about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Texas Education Agency to Officially Take Over HISD
ABC13.com n a letter sent Wednesday from the TEA to HISD interim superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan and board president Diana Davila, the state informed district leaders it would appoint a board of managers and a superintendent. The move comes after years of what the state considers dysfunction and a failure to properly educated all children. Gov. Greg Abbott released the following statement about HISD:”A quality education can make all the difference in a child’s life, and our school districts have a responsibility to deliver the best possible education to every Texas child. Houston ISD has failed to meet that responsibility and students across the district have paid the price.”

We got a chance to speak with Dr. Jacque Colbert in an exclusive interview. Houston Style Magazine: Why do you think there are not enough women getting mammograms per year? Dr. Jacque Colbert: For the most part, I believe it is out of fear and oftentimes financial support. Although we live in the world’s most powerful country, we still have so many gaps from an educational and socioeconomic perspective as it relates to providing the best healthcare. Isn’t that a shame? HSM: What age should women start receiving mammograms? Dr. Colbert: I would say it dependsNaturally, there are guidelines from the American Cancer Society. These categories consist of women at an average risk for breast cancer who may not have a personal history of breast cancer, a strong family history of breast cancer, or a genetic mutation known to increase risk of breast cancer (such as in a BRCA gene), and has not had chest radiation therapy before the age of 30.

HSM: Tell us about some of your initiatives in the community to improve the number of women receiving mammogram? Dr. Colbert: The main things that I have done are to provide education on a consistent basis. I am very active during breast cancer awareness month in education and awareness as well as fundraising. In a like manner I also include a breast cancer awareness card and how to guide for breast exams in all of my Sipping PositiviTEA boxes. That is done year round. HSM: Do you have any advice for those who are currently battling breast cancer? Dr. Colbert: Be encouraged. The research, science, and funding that is currently underway is even more powerful that when I was diagnosed. There is life after breast cancer and those who are unfortunately diagnosed must keep a positive attitude while following doctor’s orders. Diet, exercise, and of course a heart that is centered on God goes a long way. Keep pushing and fighting!
HSM: Eleven years in remission is magnificent, congratulations. Postlife after treatment: Did you experience any inabilities OR challenging results after being cured? Dr. Colbert: Thank you! Movietopia Rolls Out the Red Carpet In Houston By Cecilia Smith
are thrilled to be working with Planet Hollywood and their extensive memorabilia collection to bring some of your favorite movies to life with an event like no other.” A day before the event officially opened its doors, they rolled the red carpet out for media during a private tour of the exhibit. From the moment you step into the building, it’s truly ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ See if your hands match a few of your favorite celebrities - I matched with Cher and will forever brag about this - before heading to the famed Hollywood for a photo op. Make sure those phones are charged before heading out, as you’ll be encouraged to take lots and lots of pictures. The creators of the wildly successful Candytopia experience teamed up with Planet Hollywood to unveil Movietopia, an interactive tour that allows guest to dive into their favorite films through authentic props, recreated sets and more. While its predecessor enjoyed limited runs in select cities before opening in Houston from June 14 to September 29, this time the Bayou City is the first stop on the map. Nestled inside of a 20,000-square-foot exhibit space at the Marq’E Entertainment Center, Movietopia features iconic scenes
and recreations of films like Forrest Gump, Titanic, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, The Terminator and more. With a memorabilia collection of over 55,000 items, Planet Hollywood’s collaboration with the San Francisco based Candytopia helped bring the concept to life. The creation of Movietopia allows us to continue our mission of reinventing and merging retail with live entertainment, while providing guests a truly original experience,” said Candytopia CEO, John Goodman via a statement. You can even recreate famous ship scenes if that’s your thing. From there we moved through a variety of rooms from movies including Indiana Jones, Blade, Jurassic Park, Honey I

You can even sit on the couch from the infamous waiting room in the afterlife, right between the guys with the shrunken heads. Fans of The Flintstones can snap pictures of themselves behind the wheel of Fred Flintstone’s car, and there’s a giant bone see-saw for those with strong knees. Or you can fall in line with a group of terminators before hopping on Arnold’s famous motorcycle from the film. Then there’s the Forrest Gump space, where you can sit on the actual bench that Forrest shared his story from. Or you can climb aboard Lieutenant Dan’s boat before diving into a pit of shrimp. FEATURE Kedrick Brown Is Golden By Cecilia Smith
T
he last time we spoke to actor Kedrick Brown, he was proudly bringing his own seat to the table, landing roles in everything from Greenleaf to Survivor’s Remorse. Since then he’s only continued to grow, building a table for a new generation of actors through his work as a theater arts instructor at Houston’s Audrey H. Lawson Middle School.
and ability to share what I know about the industry. I just look forward to watching my students grow, not just as actors, but also as human beings, as productive, well-thinking members of society. Using his passion to share learning lessons: We all have a story to tell. Whether we yell, or we listen. Somebody’s going to listen. I don’t just teach theater, I teach life. Sitting in that seat, fighting the same economic conditions that these little black boys face. It’s a ton of pressure to deal with at that age. So in my program we utilize our emotions in theatrical form to promote healing. Being an educator is a big responsibility. Kids look forward to seeing me come to class. I come in there and I make it a personal mission to give it 110% everyday - then I dive into my own career work and its definitely driven through passion.
Still, acting is in his bones. Juggling the duties of being an educator, with the demands of a growing acting career - and somehow, he’s making it work. In addition to reprising his role on the Spike Lee produced Black Lightning, the Texas native recently made an appearance on the NBC hit, New Amsterdam. And in between all of that, Brown still made time to sit down with Houston Style Magazine to discuss his evolving career, the importance of building young minds, parenthood and more.
How New Amsterdam hit close to home: Working on New Amsterdam, my scene was really important to the Black community and how Black men in particular are so lackluster with our health. Dr. Max Goodwin (played by actor Ryan Eggold) is more about health and helping people, than he is about the business side of the hospital. Everything has become so business oriented that we’ve lost our humanity in a sense. I play a young man that’s been personally affected by poor health decisions. Returning back to Black Lightning: I’m able to relate to the character, to the community. Being a teacher on Black Lightning and in real life definitely gives me that real life experience to portray that character truthfully and genuinely. The same students that they write about in TV shows and in movies, I deal with them daily. So knowing their behavior traits and circumstances rang true, because I deal with it on a daily basis. On the impact of serving youth: We’re starting to add even more for my students. A lot of them are more interested
8
in the film and television side given that they’re around me on a daily basis. Every move, every breath - they will literally sit underneath my chair and soak it all up. When I was their age I was told there was a million to one chance I’d ever end up on television. And it’s true if you look at the odds. Making it on national television, you have about the same odds as making it in the NBA or NFL. But I did it. I was fortunate to be one of that million, and I tell my kids that everyday. Somebody in this room could very well be that. Or two. Or three. I see this as a way to give back. How being supported has allowed him to serve dual roles: My theater program has shifted the mind frame of not just the kids, but their parents as well. When we did our Christmas show, it was a sold-out house. Do you know that 465 seats sold? Line wrapped around the building. That is support. That is a shift. Coming from a community
Novmber 7 – November 13, 2019
where theater isn’t always given that. So the support, the interest - they can’t wait until the next show. Principal (Kasey M. Bailey) is truly an ideal administrator, the type you want at your school because she’s simply amazing at what she does; especially the work she’s done to turn the school around in just two years. She doesn’t make decisions for us, because she trusts that I know what’s best for the program. The fact that she trusts me is huge, because if anything goes wrong it falls on her head. I’m also a huge advocate of our current superintendent (Grenita Lathan). She’s very much interested in the student community and what they have going on, and I’m proud to always be able to have a conversation with her. Being an actor, I’m a very good reader of people - like who’s in it for the real deal. It’s my job to know what type of person you are and Dr. Lathan definitely offers genuine support. So I’m extremely grateful to have that support
www.stylemagazine.com
Embracing parenthood: Becoming a dad has absolutely changed my life. My daughter is eight months, she’s growing, and she’s healthy. Her first words were “dada” and I’m extremely happy about that. Parenthood is something I never expected, but I love it. Now everything that I do is for her. Looking to the future: I just want to see my acting career lead to bigger and better opportunities - and somehow help others grow as artists too. There are a lot of lessons I’ve learned in the industry, and I’m able to offer advice to them. One of the greatest things I ever learned in acting class was being able to lose. Instead of raising my voice higher, I learned to lose myself in a character, in a role. There is greatness is actually being able to lose, because it helps you grow and it exposes you in a way that other people can relate to. That’s why people relate to super villains so much, they love villains. I just want to continue to grow, to act. I don’t let distractions get to me. Sometimes there is no solution, it is just what it is. Whatever your rock of salt is, you have to be able to let it go.

o you get short of breath doing daily activities? Feel like you’re unable to take deep breaths? Are you constantly coughing or wheezing? If you said yes to any of these questions, you may be experiencing symptoms of
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a serious, potentially devastating lung disease also known as chronic bronchitis or emphysema. Though it’s easy to think of these symptoms as just part of “getting older’’ or as problems
COPD often occurs in people who have a history of smoking or long-term exposure to secondhand smoke and other lung irritants, such as air pollution, chemical fumes, and dusts from the environment or workplace. The chances of getting COPD also increases significantly in people who have alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a rare genetic condition. While COPD develops slowly and worsens over time, its symptoms can be treated and its progression can be

slowed, which is why early detection and treatment are so important. If you are noticing any issues with your breathing, talk to your health care provider about getting tested for COPD. The sooner you get a diagnosis, the sooner treatment can begin. Your provider will design a treatment plan to help address your symptoms and improve your lung function and quality of life. The key to keeping COPD at bay – or preventing it from getting worse – is to understand and recognize the signs and symptoms early and discuss them with your health care provider. The sooner this happens, the sooner you can get back to doing the things you love. Through educational efforts like the Learn More Breathe Better program (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/breathebetter), the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute shares valuable information about the symptoms of COPD, as well as how to diagnose and treat it. With these tools, those living with COPD can effectively manage the disease, and those who have symptoms can find the support and assistance they need. Photo courtesy of Getty Images

Let the Holiday Travel Begin: Why Velas Vallarta Should Be Your Next Holiday Vacation Getaway By: Lisa Valadez
T
he holidays are just around the corner, and while some will start planning family gatherings and festivities, for others, becoming part of the holiday traveling trend is becoming more of the norm holiday tradition. After all, sitting beachside with cocktail hand while listening to the melodic sounds of the ocean waves crashing does sound tempting, doesn’t it?
up to a spacious balcony that can also be accessed from your suite’s living area. The patio has a table and chairs, should you choose to dine al fresco or maybe sip a few margaritas while enjoying the sunset. Yes, you can order a pitcher or two of margaritas to be delivered to your room! (Insert any song that makes you get up to do the happy dance.) But back to the bedroom – I am very picky about the soft to firm mattress ratio. Let’s just say that Velas Vallarta did not disappoint. I slept like a baby after a long hard day of sunbathing. The living area is also a nice place to relax while winding down after a day of beach or poolside nothingness. Open up the sliding door and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean while watching your favorite movies and sipping on another margarita! Quick note: when booking, ask for a room above the 5th floor so that you can enjoy the pool, ocean, and sunset views.
So, let’s talk travel and let’s talk Mexico! From Houston, direct travel to the best beach destinations in Mexico can be pretty cheap but you will want to book right away; flights do tend to get more costly as the holiday dates get closer. And if you are looking for a laid back destination if traveling solo, with a significant other, or even with children, then Velas Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta is the resort for you. This all-inclusive beachfront resort touts itself as a resort dedicated to providing the ultimate all-inclusive vacation on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. So of course I had to visit - although I was quite skeptical considering my previous visit to a different resort was probably one of the worst vacations I’ve ever experienced. However, Velas Vallarta truly changed my mind about Puerto Vallarta – luxury resort experience without the hefty luxury price tag.
The service at Velas Vallarta is outstanding. From room service, which is available 24 hours daily, to pool and beachside service, there was plenty of staff readily available to tend to my needs. I never experienced any wait time or standing in line at any of the resort’s restaurants or bars. Can I quickly mention that the resort is fully stocked with top-shelf liquor and none of that off brand stuff that leaves you with a horrible headache in the morning? Hey, don’t judge me, that’s important info for some of my readers.
(As I sit and type these words, I anxiously await the opportunity to return once again.) After the airport experience, I’m usually quite anxious to arrive to my destination, unpack and head out to the beach so the fact that Velas Vallarta is only minutes away from the airport is a bonus because that means less time commuting and more time vacationing! Upon check in, the staff greeted me with a refreshing cocktail (always appreciated) – quickly checked me in and a staff member escorted me to my room while giving me a brief history of the resort and notifying me of all of the amenities offered. The resort’s luscious green foliage landscape, wind blowing upon my face with the clean crisp ocean air fragrance and the welcoming smiling faces automatically put me at ease and just like that, the woes of my everyday hustle and bustle seemed to dwindle away. My one bedroom suite was way roomier than most resort suites. The spacious kitchenette was fully stocked with water, sodas, and beer. There was also a snack basket filled with chips, nuts, granola bars, popcorn and much more – which can come in handy during those times that you want to munch on a little something and don’t necessarily want to get dressed to go to one of the restaurants or poolside bars. Drinks and snacks are complimentary and restocked daily at no extra charge if you opt for the resort’s all-inclusive plan.

The three on-site restaurants, with two being formal and requiring reservations, offer plenty of options to choose from so you won’t easily get bored with the menu. The poolside grill offers the regular staples such as hotdogs, burgers, etc. which is very convenient. Oh, and don’t skip out on the ice cream – it is served all day and is a complete delight during those sunny afternoons. While beach and poolside lounging is all of the activity needed for me to fully enjoy a vacation getaway, there are plenty of on-site activities for both adults and children. The daily schedule, posted by the pool, offers activities such as water volleyball and aerobics, beach volleyball, zumba lessons, ping-pong tournaments and much more. Evening activities usually occur indoors near the resort’s lobby. From karaoke to casino nights to International dance shows, there’s plenty of fun and entertainment to appease every vacationer no matter the age.
The recently updated bathrooms are spacious and have plenty of counter space which is completely appreciated

those wanting the swim up bar experience with music and a full range of pool activities. Also, if you are traveling with children, the kid’s club range of activities from video games, to tennis lessons, scavenger hunts, movie nights and much more is sure to keep the kiddos entertained so you can maximize your relaxation time – perhaps a couple’s oceanside massage? Let me just say that the massage was well worth it. I’m just hoping that the sound of the waves crashing against the cliff made enough noise to drown out my snoring – I was in complete bliss! Velas Vallarta is the perfect destination getaway if you are looking for a full all-inclusive resort experience with top-notch service offering the ultimate beachside experience, fun-filled daytime activities, quiet romantic evenings, 24 hour room service dining options, beautifully cultivated on-site restaurants, and much more. The attention to detail and value offered for the price you pay is the definitive reason to choose Velas Vallarta as your next holiday vacation getaway!

EAT WITH STYLE
Celebrate the Flavors of Fall Use a pantry staple to spice up comfort food classic By Family Features
A
s chilly weather sets in and days get shorter, comfort food favorites once again fill menus. While traditional flavor combinations typically hold a special place in many families’ hearts and on their plates, there is almost always room to add new and exciting flavors to tried-and-true favorites. If you’re craving cheesy scalloped potatoes, savory stuffing or juicy braised meat, an option like California Ripe Olives are an easy addition that can spruce up your go-to dishes. Their mild and unique taste lends itself well to many different flavor pairings such as Prosciutto-Wrapped Stuffed Turkey Breast, Potatoes Au Gratin with Olives and Fennel, and Green Beans with Olive Butter. California family farms produce 95% of the ripe olives grown in the United States. Multi-generational family farmers work with family-owned canneries to produce each can and ensure only the highest quality olives make it from the farm to your table. For more creative ways to use olives, including family recipes from growers across California, visit CalOlive.org.

oil, divided salt, to taste pepper, to taste 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley 1 tablespoon orange zest 4 cloves garlic, minced 1/4-1/3 cup dried cranberries 3/4 cup sliced California Green Ripe Olives, divided 4-5 slices prosciutto Gravy: 2 tablespoons butter 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour 1-1 ½ cups chicken broth orange slices, for garnish To brine turkey breast: In large, non-reactive bowl, mix salt, peppercorns and bay leaves in water. Place turkey breast in brine and cover with additional water, if needed. Place plastic wrap over bowl and refrigerate at least 8 hours or overnight. To cook turkey breast: Heat oven to 375 F. Remove turkey breast from brine, rinse and pat dry. On large cutting board with sharp, sturdy knife, slice into thickest portion of turkey and cut lengthwise, but not all the way through. Brush inside of turkey breast with 1 tablespoon olive oil then sprinkle with salt and pepper, to taste, rosemary, parsley and orange zest. Spread minced garlic, cranberries and 1/2 cup sliced green olives over bottom half of turkey breast then fold top over bottom. Brush outside of turkey breast with remaining olive oil and place prosciutto slices over top of turkey breast. Using three pieces kitchen twine, tie turkey breast on each end and in middle. On baking sheet, roast turkey 15 minutes then turn heat down to 350 F and roast 35-45 minutes. Once internal temperature reaches about 155 F, remove from oven and tent foil over top to allow it to continue cooking and stay warm. Let turkey rest about 15 minutes. Once turkey is cool enough to handle, remove kitchen twine and slice. Arrange slices on platter. To make gravy: Take remaining juice from baking sheet and add to saucepan over medium heat along with butter. Once butter is melted, sprinkle in flour and whisk. While whisking, add 1 cup chicken broth. If it becomes thick, add 1/2 cup chicken broth, or more, as needed. Let gravy cook several minutes, whisking constantly. When gravy is done, remove from heat and drizzle over sliced turkey breast. Garnish with remaining green olives

Add blanched beans and toss until heated through. Toss beans with olive butter to coat. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Transfer to serving platter. SPORTS Bye Bye
Bye week comes just in time for the Texans to get healthy. By Brian Barefield, Style Sports Editor
T
he Houston Texans sit atop of the AFC South with a 6-3 record after going “Across the Pond” to defeat their divisional foe in the Jacksonville Jaguars 26-3. Houston is on a bye this week and it comes at a time when they need it most with all the injuries they have on both sides of the ball. “One of the keys to the second half of the season will be health,’ said head coach Bill O’Brien. “I think that guys have to work hard to get treatment this week and get away from the game a little bit, but to come back as healthy as they possibly can.” The “Next Man Up” mentality has become the Texans mantra in the last couple of weeks, especially in the defensive backfield. With most of the starters either out or playing through pain, the Texans defensive unit has taken pride in their play and the coaching staff has taken notice as well. “Romeo Crennel (Defensive Coordinator) is always harping on these guys about the next man up mentality, and we’ve been tested with that,” secondary coach Anthony Midget told the media on Monday. Most will look at the outstanding play of MVP candidate Deshaun Watson who is having a great year thus far (2,432 passing yards, 23 total touchdowns, 5 interceptions), but two off season trade acquisitions have stepped up to help propel the Texans to the top. Wide receiver Kenny Stills has made the most of his time on the field since coming to the Texans along with offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil via trade
with the Miami Dolphins. Stills has filled in quite nicely as Watson’s downfield threat with Will Fuller out due to a hamstring injury. He currently leads the team with 16.7 yards a reception so far this year and with Watson’s increased use of his tight ends the last three games, the field is wide open for the seven-year veteran. Playing on his sixth team in six years, I think running back Carlos Hyde has finally found a permanent home in Houston. Hyde was acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in a trade this summer to join Duke Johnson in the backfield after Texans starting running back Lamar Miller was lost for the season in the preseason. “Every offense starts with the run,” said Deshaun Watson after the game. “If you can run the ball and establish the line of scrimmage it creates everything, slows down the pass rush, slows down the blitz package, everything that they want to do. So, every offense wants to be able to run the ball and it opens everything else up.” Hyde leads the team in rushing with 704 yards and his 160 this past weekend against the Jags help propel them to victory. He is second on the team behind wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in first downs gained at 37 and leads the team with runs over ten yards with 20. Houston will definitely rely on him coming out of the bye week as they have three tough games against teams who all made the playoffs last year in the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, and Super Bowl Champs, New England Patriots.
