COMMENTARY We Must Hold Officials Responsible for Black Man’s Death
T
By Jesse Jackson, National Political Writer
his week I attended the funeral service for a 21-year-old young man, Emantic ëE.J.í Bradford Jr.
He was shot three times in the back by police in a Birmingham, Ala., shopping mall on Thanksgiving night. The police were responding to a fight and shots that injured two people. Witnesses have said E.J. was trying to help people escape from danger. The police claimed he was brandishing a gun (for which he had a permit) and shot him without warning. iThat boy didnit shoot at nobody,i said an onlooker as the police crowded over Bradford bleeding to death in the mall, iThey just killed that black boy for no reason.i Bradford, the youngest son of a military family o his father was a Marine o was working full-time, helping to support his family. The family has asked for the release of any information on the shooting, including video from body cameras. The police department has refused, saying that the shooting is under investigation. Once more, there is justifiable fear that the police are closing ranks, using secrecy and false statements to subvert justice and protect their own. E.J. Bradfordis death is an unspeakable horror, yet one that we witness far too often. He is one of more than 850 people who
have been shot and killed by the police in the United States this year, and the most recent victim of racial violence at the hands of the police. The NRA keeps saying that a igood man with a guni can help prevent mass shootings. Clearly not if that good man is an African-American. Even with a permit to carry and an intent to help the innocent get away, young African-American men become, without warning, the targets and the victims of police. We have been here before, too many times. Trayvon Martin was shot and killed walking home in Florida. Michael Brown was shot, and his body left to rot in the middle of a Ferguson, Mo., street. In Chicago, there were16 shots and a 400-day cover-up of the murder of Laquan McDonald. The list of victims of what sadly is a violence fueled by racism and protected by political indifference is much too long. Who will force accountability and reform? In one of his first and last efforts in office, former Attorney General Jeff Beauregard Sessions gutted the Justice Department initiative, ramped up under the Obama administration, to use court ordered consent decrees to force reform of police practices. Who will police the police? The current Justice Department has chosen to perversely

lmost two years after President Trump’s victory in the 2016 election, and just weeks away from the midterms, comedy legends Dave Chappelle and Jon Stewart laid bare their thoughts on the state of their nation, and warned against ascribing racial or class divisions purely to President Trump’s election, or Russian meddling. “Even when they say that Russia influenced the election,” Chappelle said, “it’s kind of like, is Russia making us racist? Is that who’s doing it? Oh OK, oh my God, thank goodness -- I thought it was us.” “If they killed the country that way then we’re the murder weapon,” he joked. In an exclusive interview with Christiane Amanpour for her program on CNN International and PBS, Chappelle said President Trump gets “too much credit” for defining the era. “He’s not making the wave, he’s surfing it.” The ‘right thing at the right time’ Just days after Election Day 2016, Chappelle delivered “Saturday Night Live’s” opening monologue.

shirk its responsibility. E.J. Bradford deserves justice. His family deserves a full and thorough and public investigation. They deserve to see what information is known about the killing of their child. The officer involved should be investigated and prosecuted under the law. I share the pain and anger about the violent death of E.J. If the Justice Department will not act, and the police investigation is secreted away, the people must act to ensure that justice is done. I say to those who would protest, please do so in a non-violent and disciplined way.
His mother, overcome with grief, said: “My son was a loving, very loving young man. He would give any of you the shirt off his back. And that’s true. He loved people, period. He was not a killer.” We should honor his spirit, even as we demand justice. We ask of the police only that you do your job. Serve and protect. And release the tapes. You can write to the Rev. “I’m going to give him a chance,” he said at the time. “And we, the historically disenfranchised, demand that he give us one, too.” It was the “right thing at the right time” to say, he now opines. “I’m a black American, so we’ve -- these feelings that people felt right after the election, we’ve felt them, many elections consecutively. And to some degree, people overreacted. The alternative to giving him a chance was storming the street.” But two years on from that olive branch, the comedian spoke with less optimism. “Is he doing a good job? Am I happy with what he’s doing? No, it’s been very difficult to watch the last couple of years.” After an impromptu joint show last year on the day of a neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, the two comics have teamed up for a global comedy tour tackling some of America’s darkest challenges, including gun violence and the opioid crisis. Stewart, too, said “there was a part of me” that hoped being in the White House would transform the person Trump had been as a

Dave Chappelle candidate. In reality, he now says, “I imagine he walked in that room -- he’s like, ‘Take that down, take that down, put up dogs playing poker. Can a fellow get some French fries around here?” “Oddly enough, he transformed the White House, and the White House wasn’t able to transform him.” Trump versus the press Stewart did not reserve his criticism solely for the President. Pointing fingers at the press, the former “Daily Show” host

lamented the ongoing clashes between the White House and the media, arguing that reporting on their own war of words with the White House distracts Americans from the damaging consequences of his policies. “I’m less interested in his insults and more interested in his injuries -- in the people that are being hurt, not the people that are being insulted,” Stewart said. “They are personally offended and wounded by this man. He baits them and they dive in.”

Nation Says Goodbye to Bush: ‘To us, he was close to perfect’ By Kevin Liptak, CNN/StyleMagazineNewswire.com
T
His eulogists each captured the successive roles Bush played in his lifetime: World War II flyboy, statesman, friend and father.
“He valued character over pedigree and he was not a cynic. He looked for the good in everybody, and usually he found it,” President George W. Bush told 3,000 political leaders and family members who congregated at the National Cathedral to say goodbye.
“He showed me what it means to be a president who serves with integrity, leads with courage and acts in love with his heart for the citizens of our country,” George W. Bush said, describing his father as a man who preferred steaks and vodka martinis over broccoli, speed-boated and skydived as an octogenarian, and who lived life at two settings: “full throttle and sleep.”
he hilltop cathedral in Washington filled Wednesday with recollections of George H.W. Bush as a modest but mighty president, a man whose characteristic humility was belied one final time with all the pageantry of a state funeral.
“To us,” the younger Bush said, “he was close to perfect.” As Christian hymns echoed through the cathedral’s limestone arches, sung and played by military orchestras and choirs, there seemed to be more laughter than tears in the pews -- a reflection of a long life lived in the company of good friends and family.
When the tears did come, it was when Bush was remembered as a family man who doted on the large brood who filled the first several rows of the sanctuary. George W. Bush, who as president was sometimes prone to an occasional cry, appeared to steel himself with deep breaths throughout the service before letting out a sob. “He was the best father a son
or daughter could have,” he said, his eyes welling up and his body quaking. When he concluded, the congregation burst into sustained applause. He was one of the five living US commanders in chief at the event; Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama all attended along with President Donald Trump. It’s the first time all five men have convened face-to-face since Trump took office. Bitter disputes between Trump and his predecessors have fractured the traditional presidents’ club. There was little warmth when Trump greeted only his direct predecessor Obama before taking his seat and looking directly ahead. The younger Bush, seated with his family instead of with his fellow presidents, seemed to break the unease when he handed Michelle Obama a candy -- the same gesture she extended to him in September at the funeral of Sen.
John McCain. Though the tributes delivered Wednesday focused squarely on the late president, the traits of the current one -- sitting mostly stonefaced in the front row -- made for a stark comparison. “Those that travel the high road of humility in Washington are not bothered by heavy traffic,” said former Sen. Alan Simpson.
“To us, his was the brightest of 1,000 points of light,” George W. Bush said, using the same campaign motto Trump ridiculed several months ago during a speech. For the last two days, Americans both powerful and ordinary have filed past Bush’s flag-draped casket in the Capitol Rotunda, paying their respects to a man who oversaw the end of the Cold War but who suffered defeat after one term.

ouston is expected to add 71,000 jobs in 2019, according to the Greater Houston Partnership’s (GHP) 2019 Houston Employment Forecast. GHP expects Houston to end 2019 with a total of 3.2 million jobs, which represents a net increase of more than 600,000 jobs over the past 10 years. While growth will happen across all sectors, GHP forecasts healthcare, construction, and administrative support and waste management will add the most jobs. Though the healthcare industry had job layoffs in 2017, Patrick Jankowski, GHP’s senior vice president of research said Houston saw “healthy growth” in the industry in 2018, and is expected to add 9,000 jobs in 2019. He said part of the sector’s growth has to do with the growing number of patients in Houston.

oward University’s College of Medicine is hoping that an amendment introduced during a D.C. Council meeting can help save their program from a deal that sought to exclude them from practicing at what would be the city’s newest hospital. Back in August, the city entered an agreement with Universal Health Services, the company that operates George Washington University Hospital (GWUH), to create a new hospital on the St. Elizabeth’s East Campus in Ward 8. Under the original agreement, GWUH requested an expansion of its Foggy Bottom campus, The Washington Post reported. The D.C. Council was scheduled to vote on legislation that would have exempted the expansion project from a review process, and expedited the opening of the new hospital in Ward 8, a neighborhood that has been without adequate health facilities for many years. The deal would have also excluded physicians and medical students from other institutions from seeing patients at the new hospital.

Essence + Ford Brings ‘My City 4 Ways’ to Houston By Keandra Scott and Jo-Carolyn Goode
D
o it for the culture has become a mainstream phrase to celebrate the traditions and heritage that defines one’s culture at its core. Essence Magazine and Ford partnered for the ultimate cultural festival that celebrated a city and the people in it through their diverse interests in food, music, art, and lifestyle. Day 1 with Jo-Carolyn and Bell The celebration got started Friday evening with an intimate “Paint and Dine” exclusive media experience at Painting with a Twist Westheimer. Walking up to the event I was blown away by the site of the new Ford Mustang parked outside guiding attendees to the night filled with fun, food and fine wine. Brisket lollipops, sweet potato deviled eggs, smoked fig Caprese salad, smoked chicken breast with corn pudding, tomatillo snapper with avocado relish, spiced beef with whiskey sauce, and bourbon pecan mousse were all on the menu as we sipped and chatted enjoying the great company and ambiance. With full bellies, it was now time to roll up our sleeves and get painting. For the first time in history, Ford allowed their iconic pony to be customized to fans liking. Being the girlie that I am I choose to paint my pony pink with a green background with streaks of blue as suggested by our amazing instructor. Local artist Ashley ‘Pinklomein’ Price was also in the building to help bring out our art flare as we created our masterpieces. Tagging along with me was our entertainment writer Bell, who has a very artistic eye and bigger than life personality that just added to the fun of the night. Throughout the evening, in our two teams, we painted, sipped on wine, danced to R&B hits, and had one
fabulous night. Good thing the good times didn’t stop Friday night. Day 2 at White Oak Music Hall would be a day the showcased Houston with a focus on local talent and how they inspire residents to celebrate the elements of food, music, art, and lifestyle. Day 2 with Keandra Essence Magazine and Ford brought a powerful entrepreneurship energy that might have resonated anyone’s willpower to carry out their dreams. My City 4 Ways was very tasteful literally and figuratively as Founder of Kitchen Cray Cafe, Chef James Robinson (featured on Hell’s Kitchen) brought a palatable spread by way of D.C. to H-Town for the food element. DJ Shante was on the 1s and 2s to make the occasion a day full of black excellence. Later on that afternoon more artists would light up the stage to highlight local and national artists. Attendees got a chance to ‘Ride&Drive’ in a Ford vehicle of their choice as professional representatives spoke about the many features of their up-to-date beauties on-wheels. From a sporty top-down ruby red Mustang to a Texas road-worthy F150 pickup truck, the Ride & Drive was a unique way for everyone to experience the best of Ford. After the test-drive, each daring driver or passenger received a nice canvas bag with some cool and exclusive My City 4 Ways gifts including the latest Essence Magazine issue with Michelle Obama gracing the cover. There were a lot of freebies. Beautiful melanated women got a chance to play

Parallel to the expressive atmosphere, Kam Franklin of The Suffers took to the stage next to play an acoustic set. Not like her usual pairing with the large harmonious band, she gave us her, boldly. Kam channeled Aretha Franklin by paying homage to the iconic legend with “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man.” Decatur, GA’s own “Miss Keri Baby” (Keri Hilson) graced fans with her presence not too long afterward with her classics and empowering hits like “Pretty Girl Rock” Inside White Oak, event goers could get and “Knock You Down”. a photo to share with the world. Local artist My City 4 Ways already crossed Atlanta, Ashley ‘Pinklomein’ Price was spotted painting live and one lucky fan will be able to win D.C., Memphis, and Houston was its last the one-of-kind piece (check Instagram for stop. Overall, Essence + Ford was a cultivating experience and a strategic highlight the deets). of food, music, art, and lifestyle. And no party is complete with music. ‘Black Learn more about My City 4 Ways by boy magic’ was on full display in the “H” with Made Rich By God. If you haven’t heard of visiting www.essence.com around with The Lip Bar’s many liquid matte colors and more as a professional make-up artist applied it on. In return, they received a bag with one lip color of their choice, some people were also able to get nail polish. What a treat! Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote Universal’s “Scarface,” has been tapped to write the screenplay. Dunnet-Alocer also wrote the upcoming “Miss Bala” remake for Sony. In the comics, Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes is the third character to assume the mantle of the Blue Beetle after Dan Garret and Ted Kord. Texas appeals court upheld the conviction of green card holder Rosa Maria Ortega for voter fraud on Wednesday, cementing a sentence of eight years in jail and a likely deportation. Ortega, a mother of four, reportedly thought she was able to vote because she was a permanent resident. She voted five times between 2004 and 2014 — once for the attorney general, Ken Paxton, who later prosecuted her, according to her attorney. She also reportedly served as a poll worker. Prosecutors said that Ortega had correctly told authorities she was a resident alien on a driver’s license form, while incorrectly checking the U.S. citizen box for the purpose of voting, undercutting her claims that it was an innocent mistake. Republicans have claimed that the nation is rife with voter fraud, but credible examples are harder to find, and the handful of cases like Ortega’s that are uncovered have faced tough prosecutions and stiff penalties in recent years. Earlier this year, a former felon was sent back to jail for voting illegally while on supervised release from prison.

FEATURE Kennedy Edwards Is Miss Texas Teen USA 2019 By Jo-Carolyn Goode, Managing Editor
I
n speaking with eighteen-year-old Kennedy Edwards one thing is definitely clear. Her goal in whatever she does is to strive for excellence and nothing short thereof. In every undertaking, she puts her all in to give the best performance that she can produce at that given time and at that precise moment. She had that laser mindset focus when she entered the 2019 Miss Texas Teen Pageant produced by the Crystal Group. And all of her focus, time, and dedication ultimately paid off as she was crowned Miss Texas Teen USA 2019. In addition to winning the most prestigious beauty competition, she made history in the process as the first African American female teen to win the coveted title in the pageant’s 35-year history. Just as important as her accomplishment today is her road to how she got to this point. Another history maker, Hannah Johannes, first introduced the Houston native to the idea of pageantry. Johannes was the first ever African American Miss Houston Teen USA. During a chance meeting at the wedding of Edwards’ cousin, Johannes talked about her own journey in pageantry with all the fun and life-changing opportunities she had competing and reigning on the local and state pageant circuit in the Miss USA system. Although Edwards thought everything Johannes spoke of was wonderful, it fell on deaf ears. “I was so standoffish to the idea
10 10
because it was something that never crossed my mind before,” Edwards recalled. Her discernment did not discourage Johannes. She kept prodding at her potential pageant mentee until Edwards gave up to give something new a try. Surprise, surprise Edwards not only liked it but she was a natural at it. Edwards said, “Without her (Johannes) I would not be where I am today.” Johannes is only the first leg of Edwards’ success story. The next person is a household name already, Crystle Stewart-Sebrechts. Her name may be familiar to you since she was first African American Miss Texas USA who went on to be crowned Miss USA 2008. (I know you are thinking what about Chelsi Smith. She is credited as the first biracial Miss Texas USA.) Or you may know Stewart from her acting career starring in Tyler Perry’s television sitcom Better or Worse and the film Acrimony. Stewart has added two additional careers to her growing resume as the owner of a charm school, the MISS Academy, that she co-founded with her husband model/actor Max Sebrechts and as the new director of the Miss Houston USA Pageant. The local pageant is an official preliminary competition of the Miss Texas USA Pageant and Edwards’ first stop towards the Miss Texas Teen USA title. Like Edwards, anything Stewart does, she does first class and top rate. She expected all
Dec 06 - Dec 12, 2018
of her contestants in pageantry to approach the competition in the same manner. For months all teen and miss contestants went through intensive training in walking, interview, hair, makeup, and wardrobe prep to ensure that all were on a level playing field to give their best performance regardless if they had pageant experience or not. This is a practice not usually done in pageants but one that first-time pageant competitor Edwards happily embraced. Edwards recalled all the things Stewart had done for her personally, fellow novice titleholder Miss Houston USA 2018 Lesha Wincher, and the other contestants. “She guided me so much.” Edwards continued, “I give her all the credit to become the girl who was on the stage. She refined me and helped me find my voice. She is so gracious and humble that you forget that she is a celebrity. She put so much focus on me to make sure I was comfortable and prepared.” Stewart has easily become a role model that Edwards looks up too. And the admiration between the two is shared. Stewart said of Edwards, “With Kennedy’s most recent win as the new Miss Texas Teen USA, she has inspired so many young women to pursue their dreams and aspirations with confidence. Kennedy graduated third in her class, she is an aspiring lawyer, and an active ambassador for voter

registration. Her intelligence matches her beauty and both are of high standards.” With the local title under her belt, Edwards again underwent more intense training for the state pageant while simultaneous tackling her responsibilities as a freshman political science major at Howard University. The future civil or corporate attorney made bi-weekly trips to Houston for training, wardrobe fittings and other pageant prep. She sacrificed college activities, some classes, and her weekends. But she wouldn’t trade one thing she did. “Although it was a sacrifice it wasn’t something absolutely crazy for me to do. It paid off in the end.” Edwards will continue to make more sacrifices like the above as she now has to prepare to compete for Miss Teen USA this coming summer 2019. Entering in the local pageant Edwards simply wanted to have fun first. Her competitive nature kicked into full drive once on stage. With the state, pageant fun took second to her wanting to make history. “I knew an African American had to win at some point but I wanted to be the first one. I knew I had to excel at everything for judges to make that no doubt decision. It had to be me. So I worked extra hard in every single area so that it could be clear and that I could perform to the best of my ability.” A strategy that ultimately paid off for the newly crowned state queen that
FEATURE she feels extremely blessed and grateful for.
In this new role, Edwards has the responsibility of representing the teens throughout the state, pageant sponsors, and being a champion for charitable causes among other things. Her constant goal is to be the best representative possible. “When people look back on it I want them to look at my reign as something positive. I want to do everything I can do to touch every single person that I can in the process especially young girls and boys who come from the same place I come from and who look like me and who have the same aspirations as me.” Edwards went on to say she doesn’t want to give anyone the opportunity to anything negative and that she wants to excel so everyone can see that the title is about more than the color of her skin. “You can walk on the stage; you can be dressed in thousands of dollars; but at the end of the day, it goes beyond what type of clothes you are wearing and how you walk but who you are as a person. I think my confidence, especially in the interview is what set me aside.” She added, ”I think just focusing on being as real as possible and being relatable and communicating my own intelligence and devotion to different things is probably what set me aside.”
Kennedy Edwards
Her favorite scripture and life’s motto is based off Psalms 46:5. It a reminder for her to just get out of her own way and to abide by God’s rules and trust only in Him then all things will work out in the end. “It is not my battle to have but His,” commented Edwards.
At such a young age, Edwards seems to have found the winning formula for success. A formula that is devoted faith + radar focus + persistent patience and perseverance + unselfish time and commitment + a supportive circle = achievement, accomplishments, and success. As she continues to live life and envision new dreams for herself she shall carry this formula close to her chest. May it continue to serve as a stable foundation for a life that is on track to continue to make fetes yet to be seen. If pageantry interests you, the 2019 Miss Houston USA Pageant is hosting an open call for potential contestants on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at MISS Academy, 1111 Uptown Park Blvd Ste. 12. Texans Win Ninth Straight Game By Brian Barefield, Style Sports Editor
O
k. Stop me if you have heard this phrase before.
THE TEXANS WIN AGAIN!
For all Houston fans, that phrase should have become very familiar to you over the last nine weeks. This past Sunday, the Texans defeated the Cleveland Browns 29 – 13 to extend their winning streak to 9 games and improve their lead in the AFC South to 3 games. The organization was playing with a heavy heart for the second week in a row. After losing team owner Robert McNair on November 23, 2018, the Texans lost one of their biggest supporters in former President (41) George H.W. Bush one week later. Players and fans stood for a moment of silence as a montage of photos scrolled across the scoreboard at NRG Stadium. Once the memorial was over and the ball was kicked off, it was business as usual for Houston as they opened up a 10-point lead after a 35-yard field goal by Kaimi Fairbain and a perfect teardrop pass from Deshaun Watson to rookie tight end Jordan Thomas. That pass would have been the highlight of the first half if it wasn’t for Texans LB Zach Cunningham who returned to Baker
Mayfield for an interception and touchdown in the 2nd half. “That was my first pick, my first touchdown in the NFL, so it definitely felt great for me,” said Cunningham as he described the pick-6. 2018 NFL overall No. 1 draft pick Baker Mayfield gifted two more interceptions in the first half to Andre Hal and Jonathan Joseph. The former Heisman Trophy winner (2017) finished the half by going 5/13 for 46 yards and 3 interceptions. “I keep preaching that if we do the little things right we can be a great offense,” Mayfield said. “We saw a glimpse of that in the second half, but unfortunately, I put us in a deep enough hole into where it didn’t matter.” Although Houston’s offense didn’t have a stellar performance on Sunday, it did show some glimpse of what is to come down the stretch. Dependable wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins finished the game with 91 yards receiving on 7 catches while running back Lamar Miller chipped in with another 100yard game. But the offense MVP was kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn who put 5 kicks (a career high) through the uprights in the victory. “I am just keeping things simple. Taking it
one kick at a time. Do what I do in practice in the game,” Fairbairn told reporters after the game. Now it is back to the drawing board for the Texans as they face the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday at NRG Stadium. Even though the Colts were defeated by the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-0) last week. Indianapolis is not a team Houston can take lightly as they had a win streak of 5-games this year. Actually, it was the win versus the Colts back in week 4 that sparked the nine-game winning streak,
but the winning streak is not the primary focus of any player in the Texans organization. “Obviously you want to keep winning, but you can’t get caught up in the hype, because the moment you get caught up in the hype is when you get smacked in the face. So, what we will continue to do is take it one week at a time and however we win the game we just move on to the next,” said veteran cornerback Jonathan Joseph who has been with the Texans since 2011.

BOOK
“Remembrance” by Mary Monroe By Terri Schlichenmeyer, Book Reviewer
F
or weeks, you’ve been scouring the stores. You have a lot to give.
Most of it is wrapped up colorfully, beribboned and bowed. Some gifts are in bags with shiny trim, while others are tucked away in closets. You have a lot to give this holiday season, but in the new novel, “Remembrance” by Mary Monroe, when you give of yourself, you also get. Beatrice Powell couldn’t understand what was wrong with people. When she married Eric all those years ago, he told her that she could do whatever she wanted, as long as it made her happy – and so she found an excuse to throw dozens of annual parties. The biggest one was her Christmas-birthday celebration and everyone always had a good time. This year, though, all her usual guests made other plans that weekend. This year, Bea had extra to celebrate. It was the twenty-fifth anniversary of the day she almost died of a hit-and-run accident, a date that she could never forget.
She was still a teenager then; only the CPR skills of a handsome but anonymous man had saved her. Each anniversary, that day weighed on Bea’s mind and she gave of herself in gratitude for her life. Because Eric’s business was successful, she didn’t have to work for money; instead, she worked at Sister Cecile’s soup kitchen, and helped feed the homeless. It was a job that fulfilled her soul, and she tried to lift up the people she served with smiles and little kindnesses. But while she put on a cheery face at the shelter, this party-not-party bothered her. Her three grown children couldn’t attend, her parents were going on a cruise, even her so-called best friends were declining.
It’s easy to forget to bring your gratitude. “Remembrance” has that covered. For an adult who likes quick, painless novels at a time when reading might feel like a luxury, author Mary Monroe offers a book that’s easy to grab and finish. “Remembrance” is as uncomplicated as they come, which is nice when your mind is on other things: it’s perfect for starting and stopping as time warrants. It’s filled with just enough drama to keep you reading and a good amount of characters that are basically pretty simple, but the story is not boring. Readers should also know that the plot is on the unsophisticated side, and predictable, but not entirely so.
Was her Mama right, that there were too many parties? Did her oldest friend have a point, that Bea was too self-focused? Was she bored with her marriage, and was it time to separate from her husband? Could an angel in disguise soothe her mind?
In short, this short little book is an excellent choice if your book group wants to squeeze in a before-the-holidays pick. It’s perfect for tucking in your handbag, and those wait-times you’ll have. Because, of course, you need that now, “Remembrance” is worth giving a try.
The holidays can bring the kind of chaos, good and bad, that occupies your brain.
