n April 4, we celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King even as we marked the 48th anniversary of his assassination. On April 5, voters will go to the polls in the Wisconsin primaries, but a new raft of voter suppression laws will insure that the results are skewed. One of Dr. King’s great legacies -- the Voting Rights Act -- is now under assault across the country. In Wisconsin, voter suppression laws were passed by a conservative Republican legislature despite the fact that there was no evidence of voter fraud to justify them. The legislature seemed intent on passing the most restrictive laws. They passed the whole passel of conservative model laws and invented a few more. The laws were challenged
POLITICAL By Burt
S
In Wisconsin, The Struggle for Justice Continues in court, but the Supreme Court refused to review a lower court decision leaving them in place. The voter suppression laws include requiring a photo ID for voting, a measure that may impact an estimated 300,000 voters, disproportionately older, younger, poor and people of color. They reduced early voting times from 30 days to 12 days and eliminated it on weekends and evenings, discriminating against workers who can’t get leave to go to the polls. They eliminated statewide certification of registrars, so registrars can only enroll voters the country where they are certified, making registration more difficult. They eliminated faxing and emailing of absentee ballots -- except to military and overseas voters -- making absentee voting more difficult. They eliminated straight ticket voting, except for military and overseas voters, ensuring that waiting times and lines will be longer when people go to vote. They made it harder to use student ID as proof of residence, even as they required proof of residence to vote. The thrust of these laws is clear: They are designed to make it harder to vote, particularly for working people who can’t take time off, for students, for the elderly who may not have the right
ID, for the poor and people of color. No wonder Bernie Sanders denounced the suppression laws as “truly un-American.” Hillary Clinton’s legal counsel challenged them in court. Key constituents of both candidates will be impacted. The Wisconsin primary results will be distorted -- and that is the intent. In the general election, these laws will be most destructive to the Democratic voting base, not the Republican base. And that is intentional also. This is a disgrace. Forty-eight years after Dr. King’s death, we witness how much of his agenda remains unfinished, how much is being reversed. He marched against inequality and poverty, but inequality is worse, and childhood poverty in the United States is the worst of any major country. He marched for equal protection under the laws, but our system of racial injustice continues to discriminate, particularly against young black men. He marched for voting rights, and now across the country conservatives are systematically passing laws to making voting harder. He protested against the endless war in Vietnam that robbed the funds needed for the war on poverty at home. And now we seem stuck in endless wars without victory on the other side of the
world, even as our own neighborhoods suffer from the lack of public investment in everything from clean water systems to public schools. Dr. King will be remembered for helping to make America better. But he always taught us that justice can’t be inherited. Equal opportunity can’t be taken for granted. “Human progress,” he wrote, “is neither automatic nor inevitable. ... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering and struggle, the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.” And as Wisconsin will show, the struggle must continue simply to guarantee every American the right to vote. BOOK REVIEW By Terri
My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me
Schichenmeyer, Literary Writer
Y
by Jennifer Teege and Nikola Sellmair
ou’ve heard the stories. Great-Grandpa made hooch in the basement during Prohibition. Grandma was arrested for protesting back in the ‘60s. Your great-grandma once chased a man off with a gun. Scandalous then, maybe, but quaint family stories now. You cherish those rebel-rousing ancestors of yours – but in “My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me” by Jennifer Teege and Nikola Sellmair, some tales may lie buried. At thirty-eight years old, Jennifer Teege had everything she wanted: a degree, success, a husband, two healthy sons, and a bright future. And then, while idly browsing in a nearby library, she says, “I found the book.” Photos inside it seemed familiar – then recognizable. They were pictures of her birth mother and the grandmother Teege loved. And between the pictures was a story that was “the key to my family history, to my life”: the mother who gave Teege up for adoption was the child of one of Germany’s most notorious Nazis. The grandmother who cared for Teege as a child was the mistress of Amon Goeth, commandant of Plaszów concentration camp. Did her adoptive parents know the truth? Teege had contact with her mother until she was 7 years old and she knew her father was Nigerian; why didn’t anyone say anything about the bigger secret of their lives? And how could Teege ever reconcile the gentle grandma she loved with the woman who surely knew what was going on at the camp, but who chose to ignore it in favor of a life of comfort? Though it felt like picking at a painful
scab, Teege needed to know everything about her grandfather, a man she understood would have been outraged at her very existence. She toured his home near Plaszów, and visited sites of former concentration camps. She looked hard at old photos, and contacted her birth parents to find closure. “I want to walk upright, to live a normal life,” she says. “There is no such thing as inherited guilt. Everybody has the right to their own life story.” Think that’s impactful? Just wait…. Half of “My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me” is what you just learned – which is so powerful, so striking a tale that it’s impossible to tear yourself away. Except there’s more. Author Jennifer Teege tells about her experiences, her memories, and her heartbreaking repugnance for her ancestry, but journalist Nikola Sellmair acts as a sort of narrator, filling in the historical gaps among Teege’s tale. Sellmair’s part of this book puts Teege’s words into perspective, in short, and so we see modern personal anguish side-by-side with past brutality and horror. We read about warmfuzzies, followed by breathtaking inhumanity and, in the juxtaposition of the two, we become just as baffled as is Teege about events that don’t make sense. Wow. Without Sellmair’s half of this book, I think this would be just another biography; with her half, it’s just incredible for World War II scholars, students, and biographers. Now out in paperback, “My Grandfather Would Have Shot Me” is one amazing story. Share this story online at www.stylemagazine. com.
HEALTH
5 Habits for a Lifetime of Good Eye Health
Family Features
M
ost of us are familiar with the healthy habits necessary to promote a high quality of life – whether we put them into practice or not. What some may not realize is that many of these common-sense teachings not only prevent disease, they also keep vital organs, such as your eyes, in tip-top shape. “Your quality of life is closely linked to how well you see,” said Lisa Shin, an optometrist and VSP provider based in Los Alamos, New Mexico. “You can take steps now to take care of your eyes and preserve your vision well into old age.” Protect your eyesight and keep your eyes healthy for years to come with these tips: Eat a healthy diet. Research shows that certain foods can boost eye health and ward off agerelated eye changes, such as macular degeneration. To keep your eyes in the best shape, Shin recommends incorporating eye-boosting vitamins and minerals into your diet, such as lutein and zeaxanthin (found in broccoli, corn, squash, peppers, spinach and kale); vitamin C (found in citrus fruits, melons, tomatoes and broccoli); vitamin E (found in legumes, wheat germ, nuts and seeds); zinc (found in whole grains); and omega-3 fatty acids (found in salmon). Reduce time in the sun. Cataracts are the most common cause of age-related vision loss in adults. Because the sun’s ultraviolet rays can increase your risk of developing cataracts, it’s important to take precautions to shield your eyes from the sun.
6
Shin recommends wearing UV protective eyewear, as well as a wide-brimmed hat. Quit smoking. It’s a no-brainer that smoking is bad for your heart and lungs, but did you realize that it can also damage your eyesight? “Smoking harms nearly every bodily organ, including the eyes,” Shin said. “Cigarette smokers are at greater risk of developing both macular degeneration and cataracts.” Exercise regularly. Aside from keeping your waistline trim, regular exercise can also keep your eyes sharp. A study in the “British Journal of Ophthalmology” found that those who led an active

lifestyle were 70 percent less likely to develop macular degeneration. Participants in the study walked at least two miles a day, but even just 30 minutes of walking a day can go a long way toward keeping your entire body in good shape. Get an annual eye exam. Even if you think you have impeccable vision, it’s still imperative to schedule an annual eye check-up. The eyes provide a surprising number of clues about your overall health. By simply peering into your eyes, your eye doctor can detect a broad array of health conditions – from hypertension to diabetes – that you might not even be aware you have. You only have one set of eyes, so it’s crucial to take the proper steps to care for them. By nourishing your body with the right foods, getting regular exercise and going in for regular eye exams, you can keep your vision sharp at any age. For more on the importance of eye health and for information on VSP Direct vision insurance, which costs as little as $17 per month, visit VSPIndividualPlans.com.

ouston City C o u n c i l is considering awarding a local charter school grant money to expand their program. The Lawson Academy, named in honor of civil rights leader and pastor emeritus of the Wheeler Avenue Rev. Lawson Baptist Church Rev. William A. Lawson, educates middle school students but now school administrators want to expand to add a high school. In order to do that they need more land. Houston City Council is considering a proposal to give the Lawson Academy a $4.7 million grant so the academy can purchase 5 ½ acres of land according to KHOU. Houston’s One Shining Moment
By Brandon Caldwell, Online Editor
A
s the confetti fell inside NRG Stadium on Monday night, it concluded the NCAA basketball season. Villanova won a thrilling game with a chaotic finale to win their second national championship over North Carolina. A iconic shot from Villanova forward Kris Jenkins not only sent Villanova into euphoria, it was the perfect cap to a more than blossoming weekend for the city of Houston, college basketball fans, local business and more. Time has shown that the city is becoming more and more equipped to handle mass spectacle. Since NRG’s first major moment in 2004 with Super Bowl XXXVII, the city has hosted two Final Fours, two Regional Finals, the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania in 2009 and is on the verge of hosting its second Super Bowl in 2017. Just around the downtown area, where Discovery Green was transformed into a festival space from Friday to Sunday, businesses surged in terms of traffic, patrons, alcohol consumed and dollars passed around. “All those outside dollars coming into the Houston economy then become income for Houston workers and Houston establishments,” Barton Smith, professor emeritus of economics at the University of Houston said. It’s not that the city isn’t used
10
to hosting large events, or holding big stars when they come into town. This year’s Final Four was the first to deal with the improving city infrastructure, the improved road conditions near Hobby Airport and the upswell in downtown hotel space for future visitors and more. As many as five new hotels will be complete by next February, just in time for Super Bowl LI. The Final Four offered something for everyone in Houston this weekend. Out-of-towner’s quizzed one another on what actually merited the term “Tex Mex”, music fans who had no real rooting interests in the game were more than comfortable dabbling in the alternative entertainment of the likes of Flo Rida, Maroon 5, Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull, Fall Out Boy and others. The massive crowds of people who lined Discovery Green like soldiers on the beaches of Normandy all wanted a piece of the action, whether it be free or like the views inside NRG on Saturday & Monday night - priceless. What always makes a Final Four Weekend or any major sporting event weekend successful is economic impact and memorable moments. Houston checked off both boxes from Thursday to Monday. It gave off vibes of a major city that still had a comfortable and welcoming charm to
April 7 - April 13, 2016
it. Midtown, Downtown, the Galleria, all of the city’s major commerce hubs in terms of commercial spending were well represented. Some bars even tripled normal revenue. For Carolina fans who strolled around the Galleria area on Sunday morning, the faces couldn’t help but be overcome with assured pride. The brightness of their team colors prodded and gleamed with the sun. “We’re taking it all,” one fan said while stopping at Smashburger for a quick bite. Another fan, clad in black with an Oklahoma visor was quizzed on his love for the game and how shocked he was watching eventual champion
www.StyleMagazine.com
Villanova decimate his school. “We’ll be back in September,” he told the Smashburger employee. His eyes were already fixed towards Houston’s next big event that wasn’t related to the Texans, Oklahoma playing against the University of Houston. On Tuesday morning, the erasure of everything Final Four in Houston began. Both IAH and Hobby had removed placards that displayed a road to a makeshift photo booth hours before Monday’s title game, believing those who should have made it to Space City had made all of their arrangements in the days prior. The large yellow banner that stretched over NRG’s face had slowly begun being stripped away to nothingness. The four logos of the teams who came to Houston in search of immortality were coming down as well. Villanova boarded a plane in the wee hours of the morning, championship in tow. North Carolina fans headed home still wondering what if, besmirched by one of the more improbable yet amazing shots in the history of college basketball. Yet the main shining moment belonged to Houston, a first date on the eve of something much bigger. Photo: Getty Images

John Cena Debuts Tapout Line With JCPenny

ust a few hours arriving into Dallas, TX and John Cena is living up to his name, as not only a Make A Wish ambassador, but now as the Tapout brand ambassador. The business savvy media attire we’re accustomed to from Cena, was replaced by workout shorts, while sporting his Tapout t-shirt. Tapout, a global hard body fitness and training brand recently relaunched by WWE and Authentic Brands Group, announced that its performance apparel line for men is available in nearly 300 JCPenny stores and at jcp.com, with plans to launch a women’s collection this summer. During the interview Cena stated, “Regardless if you’re an elite level athlete, entry level into the fitness industry, or if you’re just trying to achieve a goal, there is a product for you and that’s what’s great about the line”. The Tapout performance apparel collection for men includes a range of training and compression tees, tank tops, pants and shorts featuring Tapout’s new, contemporary branding. At JCPenny, sale prices range from

$12.99 for graphic tees to $32.99 for compression shorts. Cena explains in detail about the fabric, “I tend to like the cotton plex stuff because it fits me right; other people go for more a dry fit look”. The line ensures comfort and performance with the use of stretch and moisture-managing fabrics that

WrestleMania weekend brings fans from all over the world, and with the partnership with Tapout and JCPenny; everyone gets to witness that chaos. “If you haven’t

It really is something special to be a part of”. Fans would soon get to see their favorite star, as the hundreds waited in line to help JCPenny make this a wonderful announcement. But the moment that made John Cena such a great choice for ambassador for Tapout, happened once he was released to the public for signings; and his first picture was with a young kid in a wheel chair. The WWE, Tapout and JCPenny brought a lifetime experience to the fans, and now the fans get to workout and support the official fitness and training partner of the WWE, Tapout is promoted across WWE’s global platforms including TV programming, WWE Network, pay-per-view broadcasts, live events, digital and social media. WWE Superstars and Divas wear Tapout apparel during their fitness and training activities.

SWAP Meat to Transform Traditional Meals Courtesy of Family Features
N
ow more than ever, food choices matter. People want healthy, environmentally friendly foods without sacrificing flavor. Substituting the traditional protein in your favorite dishes with seafood is one deliciously smart way to satisfy these demands. Seafood offers numerous health benefits. In fact, because seafood is high in protein, omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins and minerals, but low in saturated fat and calories, several health organizations recommend two servings per week. Changing up traditional meals to incorporate the goodness of seafood is easier than you may think. Just pick a non-seafood protein dish that you regularly enjoy and replace the protein with one of Alaska’s many species of seafood. For example, replace veal in veal parmesan with delicious Alaska cod or the chicken in chicken Marsala with flavorful Alaska salmon. Find more easy, meatless recipes and inspiration at wildalaskaseafood.com.
Smothered Cod or Pollock Serves: 4 Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 20 minutes 1/4 cup olive oil 1/2 cup red onion 2 teaspoons garlic, chopped 1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced 1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced salt and pepper, to taste 4 tablespoons flour 2 cups chicken stock 1/2 cup tomato, seeded and chopped 2 teaspoons fresh thyme 4 wild Alaska cod or pollock fillets (4-6 ounces each) 2 cups mashed potatoes, warmed 4 fresh thyme sprigs In hot saute pan, cook olive oil, onions and garlic for 1 minute. Add both peppers and salt and pepper, and saute 2 minutes. Add flour and stir until flour turns light brown. Add chicken stock and stir until liquid smooths and starts to thicken. Add tomato and thyme. Season fish with salt and pepper, to taste, and place into simmering sauce and cover. Cook 3-4 minutes, carefully turn, cover and continue to cook until done, 3-4 minutes. To serve, place 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes on 4 serving plates. Carefully remove each piece of fish and place on top of mashed potatoes. Evenly divide sauce over each piece of fish. Garnish each plate with 1 sprig of fresh thyme. Salmon Marsala Serves: 4 Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 20 minutes 4 Alaska salmon fillets (4-6 ounces each) salt and pepper, to taste 2 cups flour 1/2 cup olive oil 1 cup Marsala wine 2 cups mushrooms, sliced 2 cups chicken stock 2 teaspoons fresh thyme 2 tablespoons cold butter 4 fresh thyme sprigs, for garnish Season salmon fillets with salt and pepper, to taste. On plate, season flour with salt and pepper, to taste. Dredge both sides of each salmon fillet in seasoned flour, shaking off excess. Heat large saute pan and add olive oil then place each piece of salmon in pan. Cook for 2-4 minutes, turn fillets over and cook until almost done. Remove fillets from pan; hold aside. Off heat, add wine to pan, scraping bits off the bottom. Return pan to heat and add mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and cook for 1 minute. Add stock and thyme, and let liquid reduce by half. Return salmon fillets to pan. Cook, while basting fish, until fillets are heated through. Remove fish fillets to 4 serving plates. Return pan to heat, add cold butter and swirl until incorporated and sauce slightly thickens. Remove from heat and divide sauce evenly over salmon fillets. Garnish each plate with 1 thyme sprig, if desired.

HISPANIC/LATINO COMMUNITY BRIEFS SCOTUS Unanimously Rejects Challenge to ‘One Person, One Vote’ (NBC News)
T
he U.S. Supreme Court unanimously rejected an effort to change political boundaries and reduce the voting strength of the nation’s Latino population on Monday. Two residents of Texas urged the court to rule that in drawing legislative boundaries to create districts with roughly equal populations, states should count the voting population, not the total population. Using the total population figures, the challengers said, dilutes the voting power of residents in districts with large numbers of people who are not eligible to vote, violating the one-person, one-vote requirement. But not a single justice ruled for the challengers.

he competition for the Latino vote in the Democratic presidential primary has so intensified that it has pit a civil rights icon against the actress and activist who played her in a movie. Rosario Dawson, a Bernie Sanders supporter, has taken on Dolores Huerta, the farmworker and labor organizer and lifelong activist who Dawson portrayed in the movie “Cesar Chavez.” Huerta supports Clinton. The two, whose feud has generated headlines and been well chronicled on social media, have become the faces of the fissures in the diverse Latino electorate that in this case is splitting along generational lines as Clinton and Sanders battle for the Democratic nomination - potentially more so than when Clinton faced thenSen. Gains in Reading for Hispanic Students Overshadowed by Achievement Gap (US News) atino students have made impressive academic gains over the past decade, but almost a quarter are still not proficient in reading – and in some states, they’re more than three grades behind their peers. Those are just some of the findings in a new report from the Child Trends Hispanic Institute, which examined the progress Latino students made in reading from 2005 to 2015, using data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress tests. Despite the increase in scores from 2005 to 2015, only 21 percent of Latino fourth-graders reached the “proficient” level in reading in 2015. This compares to 46 percent of white students, and 35
mid pressure from state lawmakers to prioritize state residents in admissions, the University of California announced they are on track to meet their goal of enrolling 5,000 more local undergraduates for next fall. University admissions officials reported Monday that 66,123 California high school seniors have so far been offered admission to one of the public system’s nine undergraduate campuses. This marks a 14.7 percent increase in the number of California residents accepted as freshmen as compared to this time last year, Los Angeles Times reported. With this, the proportion of underrepresented minorities grew significantly: 22,704 Latinos were admitted this year, up from 16,608 last fall, and now represent 32 percent of the total class admitted. The number of African-Americans admitted freshmen grew to 3,083 from 2,337, or about 4.7 percent.

TRAVEL By
Escape to the Perfect Destination
Lisa Valadez, Associate Publisher
T
ucked away in the far Northwest of the country, brushed back with plenty of trees and wilderness, the sprawl aspect of Seattle is that it gives way to technology, to industry in regards to the mammoth Starbucks Empire and its iconic Space Needle. Home to Jimi Hendrix, partial neighbor to Kurt Cobain and situated as one of the country’s music capitals in the mid ‘90s, Seattle garnered national appeal for its exports. What lies within, particularly within the hotel community are locales that not only match Seattle’s charm and 21st century appeal but tie together a little old with a little new.
A personal trip to Seattle brought me to its downtown area to a magnificent Destination Hotel, the Motif Seattle. Offering its own unique spin on comfort and relaxation. The Motif especially adheres to the senses of a savvy traveler; perhaps someone who visits Seattle for business and wants all the pleasures and none of the hassle or stress. Or the weekend traveler that wants all of the scenic beauty Seattle has to offer with a side of sophistication. Central to the world famous Pike Place farmer’s market, the Motif takes sheik and modern to an entirely new level. Relatively new, the Motif’s taken a stronghold in downtown Seattle since it first opened for business in 2014. Outfitted with over 300+ guest rooms and gorgeous views of both downtown Seattle and the waterfront, the Motif settles to compete with no other hotel in the area. Its restaurant, Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails, lines the property with a walkway that takes you right outside to enjoy the scenery, patio games, and cozy seating for intimate conversation. Noted as one of the trendiest and coolest outdoor rooftops in the country, Frolik’s staff even offers up sunglasses so that you can enjoy a beautiful sunny day or the magic of a sunset while dining and sipping on your cocktail of choice. With rooms decked out for the tech savvy individual in all of us, the Motif pushes to not only want each of its guests to be comfortable, but to be on an elevated plane of mind as well. Jetting down the way about 20 minutes or so outside of Seattle to the beautiful town of Kirkland, the Woodmark Hotel happens to play into the rural,
more earthy vibes for a unique hotel experience. Nestled off Lake Washington, the Woodmark is a luxury waterfront hotel without question. (I was lucky enough to be fancy and arrive by boat!) Upon arrival, not only does the friendly staff greet you but also waiting to say hello is the Woodmark’s resident dog, a friendly canine that acts as the hotel’s official mascot. Cozy & serene, the Woodmark’s amenities include a waterfront room and a bathroom that looks and feels more like an addition from a palace. An oversized tub with spa-ready accessories, the best aspect of the tub is how it acts like a personal spa. (My advice is to leave the patio door open and listen to the calming waters while soaking in the tub and sipping on a glass of wine.) The Woodmark’s layout includes two on-site restaurants, one for the casual diners who enjoy light cocktails and the other, a more affluent affair with some of the tastiest cuisine I’ve encountered in a while and wine bottles on demand. Enjoying Lake Washington is a secondary love and one of the more underrated features to the Woodmark. Paddle boarding, jet ski tours, plane tours, beach cruiser biking, a walking trail, and a short drive around the suburb of Bellevue, the Woodmark is located near according to USA Today, the second best place to live. When it comes to nightcaps and relaxation, the Woodmark makes it certain that everything is customizable to a guests’ preference. From the spa where you can make your own fragrances and oils for massages, pedicures & manicures to the customizable Pillow Talk program, the Woodmark is a dream for those wanting a pure getaway from the world. Plus, for the late night snackers like me, the Woodmark offers a ‘raid the pantry” hour offering all of the yummiest snacks one could desire.
Located in Cle Elum, about an hour and a half drive, cloaked within a forested mountain landscape, sun-draped meadows and rushing rivers, the Suncadia takes pride in knowing it’s a multifaceted resort with more options than maybe any other resort hotel in the area. Wealthy with various actives that stretch year-round, the locale is perfect for a Pacific Northwest vacation with family and friends or maybe just a rejuvenating getaway for you and your significant other. Miles away from the rest of civilization and miles of hiking and biking trails, the Suncadia Resort is its own world thanks to Glad Spring Spa’s world renowned spa treatments and therapies along with thirty-six holes of mountain golf and 2.2 million acres of forest via the Wenatchee Washington National Forest. What separates Suncadia from the others in the Destination hotel trio is that its villages are split to accommodate whatever guests prefer. The Suncadia Village is the heart and soul social club of the resort as multiple lodges enclose each village along with getaways such as a majestic golf course and traditional Northwest style in terms of design. With architecture that stretches to the clouds, a panoramic river and more, the Suncadia offers all of the style and grace of a luxury hotel plus conference center. Room wise, the Suncadia offers a distinct vibe in regards to seclusion and good time. Outfitted with a fireplace and lush soak tub, the Suncadia does
more than offer guests a simple robe and comfortable bed treatment. It’s not just for singles either. Family trips are priority according to the hotel leaders; with each room being gifted a full kitchen, washer dryer & wine chiller. It’s akin to having a personal apartment while you may be miles away from your actual home. My personal favorite experience about Suncadia? Honestly, I could go on and on; however, the farm to table cuisine experience is definitely one to remember. From picking the fresh vegetables out the garden, to enjoying the company of others in a beautifully scenic environment, the Suncadia is definitely on my list to experience one more time. Washington’s beauty is underrated. Tapped into both its cultural history and overall aesthetic as being one of the country’s foremost locales for relaxation, the Destination hotels all appeal to travelers big and small. Whether it be a member of corporate America looking for a night away from it all or a family looking to see different slices of the world, the Destination hotel family does it all. There’s no price too high to be comfortable. In Seattle’s case with its trio of hotels, the price is closer to priceless than anything else around. With that being said, it’s time to start planning your vacations and summer trips……what’s your next Destination (hotel)?

eyonce is telling a company to put an end to selling its “Feyonce” merchandise. The Grammy-award winning singer is suing a Texas-based company to stop selling products that have the word “Feyonce” written on them. The lawsuit claims “Feyonce” is an attempt to associate the products with the star’s trademarked name and is a misspelling of the word “fiancé,” purposefully referencing Beyonce’s 2008 smash hit “Single Ladies.” The complaint, which was filed in a Manhattan federal court Tuesday, says the products cause “immediate and irreparable harm” to the artist. The lawsuit seeks monetary relief, including damages and attorney fees.

On March 23, North Carolina, in an emergency session, passed the controversial Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act.
