ast week, a panel of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously rebuked the North Carolina legislature for acting with “discriminatory intent” in passing restrictions on the right to vote that “target African-Americans with almost surgical precision.” The decision came as we approach the 51st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act on August 6. Reinforced by similar rulings in the appellate court in Texas and a district court in Wisconsin, the decision is a victory for our democracy and our Constitution. The voting impediments were passed by North Carolina in 2013 in the wake of the Supreme decision in Shelby v. Holder which struck down the central provision of the Voting Rights Act: the requirement that areas with a history of discrimination gain prior approval from the Justice Department before changing voting regulations. Chief Justice John Roberts, the activist Republican judge, decided to rewrite the

exas African American Democrats traveled to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in force including popular southwest Houston area Democrats State Rep. Alma Allen and Houston City Council Member Larry Green. Both local legislators said they were swept up by the history of watching who they believe will be the first woman President of the United States. “I’ve been to every Democratic National Convention since 1988. I grew up volunteering in Democratic campaigns for Barbara Jordan, El Franco Lee, Mickey Leland and Rodney Ellis. I was

law that was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, arguing that since we now live in a “post-racial society,” requiring prior approval for voting law changes was no longer justified. The flood of legislation that followed -- all erecting barriers to make voting harder for African-Americans in particular -proved the chief justice’s fantasy was a lie. In North Carolina, the legislature acted immediately after the Supreme Court decision came down. Its motivation, the Fourth Circuit panel found, was clear. African-American turnout had surged in 2008 and 2012 (with Barack Obama at the head of the Democratic ticket), nearing parity with the turnout of white voters for the first time. Obama had taken the state in 2008 and lost it closely in 2012. But in 2010, conservative Republicans had taken control of the legislature and the statehouse. The new majority acted aggressively to fend off the threat posed by growing African-American turnout. As Judge Diana Motz, writing for the unanimous panel, summarized, the legislators “requested data on the use, by race, of a number of voting practices. Upon receipt of the race data, the General Assembly enacted legislation that restricted voting and registration in five different ways, all of which disproportionately affected African-Americans.” The three-judge panel in Richmond, Virginia, unanimously concluded that the law was racially

d i s c r i m i n a t o r y, o v e r t u r n i n g a requirement that voters show photo identification to vote and restoring same-day voter registration, a week of early voting, pre-registration for teenagers, and out-of-precinct voting. As Ari Berman, the voting rights expert who reports for The Nation magazine noted, the decision comes after North Carolina’s presidential primary in March provided a troubling indication of what might be expected in the general election -- students waiting in three-hour lines, foreign-born U.S. citizens asked to spell their names to poll workers for no reason, and elderly voters born during Jim Crow turned away from the polls for not meeting the new ID requirements. “The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals exposed for the world to see the racist intent of the extremist element of our government in North Carolina,” exulted the Rev. William Barber II, president of the North Carolina NAACP, on a press call Friday afternoon. “The ruling is a people’s victory, and it is a victory that sends a message to the nation.” Dr. Martin Luther King led the movement that culminated in the Voting Rights Act over a half-century ago. He understood that voting was the foundational right of citizenship. To strip someone of the right to vote is to strip them of their place in a selfgoverning community. In a 1957 speech entitled “Give Us the Ballot,” King argued “So long as I do not firmly and irrevocably possess the right to vote I do

not possess myself. I cannot make up my mind -- it is made up for me. I cannot live as a democratic citizen observing the laws I have helped to enact -- I can only submit to the edict of others.” King understood that discriminatory election laws not only hurt minorities or the working poor, they also undermined the legitimacy of our elections and thus of our government. The North Carolina decision and similar decisions in Texas and Wisconsin offer the hope that the courts will act to frustrate at least the most blatant versions of new Jim Crow laws. Those decisions will remove barriers for literally millions of voters. But the courts can only reaffirm the right to vote. That right is not effective if it is not used. The courts have lowered the barriers in North Carolina and other states. Now the citizens must mobilize and vote in large numbers to exercise the power that they have. You can write to the Rev. there when Barbara Jordan became the first black woman to deliver a keynote address, when Ann Richards delivered the Keynote address, when Illinois State Senator Barack Obama delivered the keynote and four years later when he was nominated to become our first black President. I wasn’t going to miss Hillary Clinton being nominated to become our first woman President,” said Allen, who this year served on the prestigious Democratic National Convention Rules Committee being there to work three full days before the gavel came down. While the Republican National Convention was criticized a week earlier for having 18 African American delegates or one percent of its strength, the DNC featured 2,500 black delegates or about 25 percent. Her former colleague in the Texas House, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, and current Capitol colleagues Rodney Ellis, Sylvia Garcia, Boris Miles and Carol Alvarado joined Allen. We have the finest military made of volunteering young men and women that represent the diversity of this country’s races, genders and religions and Philadelphia, the birth place of this country, celebrated that in this convention as no convention ever has before,” said Green, who was joined by council colleagues Amanda Edwards and Robert Gallegos. BOOK REVIEW By Terri

Schichenmeyer, Literary Writer

harges dropped. You were surprised, but not surprised. Hopeful that it might be different, but only barely. You know that these days, the idea of justice can be a slippery issue that’s sometimes based on all the wrong things, and in the new book “Nobody” by Marc Lamont Hill, you’ll see how we’ve come to this. On the afternoon of May 1, 2015, when Baltimore’s chief prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby, said she was bringing charges “on six… police officers involved in the arrest and detention of Freddie Gray,” her pronouncement was met with “cheers.” Gray’s case then was the latest in a long line, nation-wide, but it wouldn’t be the last of its kind. Gray, says Hill, was Nobody. “To be Nobody is to be vulnerable,” he says in his preface. It’s being “poor, black, Brown, immigrant, queer, or trans” and living in an atmosphere that’s “more rather than less unsafe.” Nobody is “considered disposable.” Take, for instance, Michael Brown. By all indications, Brown was a normal guy who acted spontaneously: he stole cigarillos from a c-store and shoved the shopkeeper, who called authorities and the rest is history. The way it happened, though, the dehumanization, and the aftermath of Brown’s “random encounter” with police will be talked about for generations, says Hill. How did we get here? The answer is found in crowded, ill-maintained, depressing neighborhoods where schools are sub-par and few in charge care. It’s in the way the justice system operates for those who are too poor to hire a lawyer or afford their bail. Also to

Nobody blame: so-called “quotas” within police departments, a lack of differentiation between serious infraction and minor annoyance, and the relative ease of targeting minorities in all of the above. And yet, says Hill, we cannot “individualize this crisis.” We must fix housing, schools, the justice system, and the economy overall, in all corners of the country. “We must reinvest in communities. We must imagine the world that is not yet.” You brace yourself, take a deep breath, unfold the newspaper at the corner and quickly peek at the headline to see if it’s about yet another shooting of a young person. So begins your day. Shoulda read “Nobody” first. Before you do, though, let’s get the elephant out of the room: author Marc Lamont Hill isn’t anti-cop in this book. Instead, I saw a thoughtful, balanced, thought-provoking look at how today’s authorities, police departments, and government entities have evolved to be what they are, and how that can be turned around. In his examination of the past, in fact, Hill paints real solutions to the problems that put vulnerable citizens in harm’s way. I also saw that those solutions don’t lie one-hundred-percent with those in Blue. This is not an easy book to read; it’s not fun, either, and it demands that you think about what’s said. Still, if you only read one book with the intention of making change, then this is what you want. Start “Nobody” today, and there’ll be no dropping this one. Let the Olympics Inspire Your Fitness Goals

I

f Olympic fever has you itching to go for the gold in a new sport, a Baylor College of Medicine sports medicine expert has advice on how to get started. “Watching the Olympics is great motivation to get back into a sport that you used to play, become a fan of something you haven’t seen before, or even find something new to try if you are already physically active but bored with your routine,” said Dr. Theodore Shybut, assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Baylor. “However, it’s important to be realistic about your current level of fitness and your goals.” Shybut suggests starting new activities at a low intensity level to get used to the training, rather than aiming to accomplish Olympian workouts on the first try. Ramping up over time should help minimize missed time due to soreness or injury. “It’s also important to remember that Olympians train for years to accomplish what you see on television. They learn new maneuvers or build performance one element at a time. Gymnasts practice by falling into foam pits – they don’t attempt to stick the landing the first time they execute a movement. Sprinters do specific drills in training to work on their start, attack, finish, form and so on.”

6

Aug 4 - Aug 10, 2016

Shybut also notes the importance of overall conditioning, including cross-training and varying workouts to emphasize power, endurance, recovery, etc. Additionally he notes there are other keys to performance such as establishing routines, coaching, nutrition, mental preparation, team building, proper rest and sleep habits. Some athletes consult sports psychologists who help them visualize Dr. Shybut their goal to help them achieve it. All of these elements come together to help an Olympian achieve their goals. If it’s a sport that you already played that you want to get back into, and you already have the knowledge and understanding of it to get started, Shybut says go for it, but bear in mind you have had some time away and set realistic goals for your training.

www.StyleMagazine.com

If it’s a new sport that you’ve never tried before, Shybut suggests seeking out an adult recreational league or a coach to help get you started. “It’s important to train intelligently – you’re not going to achieve your goals if you’re injured,” he said. The Olympics also are a great opportunity to expose children to new activities. Shybut recommends keeping their interests ahead of your own. “If your dream was to be an Olympic swimmer, it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what your child’s dream is,” he said. “Let them develop as athletes and then follow their interests.” If children show a great deal of interest and a lot of talent, seek the expertise of a coach who has a good track record to help them get to the next level of their training. If nothing else, enjoy the Games as elite athletes compete on the world stage for Olympic glory. For more information, visit www.bcm.edu/ news

ars versus SUVs have always been a great debate when in the market for a new ride. Cars are great for all ideal purposes of getting to points A and B, providing adequate space for people and cargo, good fuel efficiency, and everyday type of driving. SUVs give drivers all of the above in a bigger space with off road capabilities for that sense of adventure. The crossover SUV has become known as the functional practical ride for families. In a crowded market, one of the standouts is the 2016 Dodge Journey for its budget friendly pricing, available offerings, and performance on the road. This past week I test-drove the 2016 Dodge Journey Crossover Plus AWD and here is what I liked most about it. Ample Storage Visible and Hidden I don’t travel with a lot of stuff usually so I don’t know why I am such a sucker for storage. But I am. Finding storage spots in a vehicle is like playing a reverse version of hide-and-go-seek for

me. Dodge Journey, tag you’re it. This vehicle has storage in places I never would have thought to look. One such place is inside the front passenger seat. Yes, you read that right. Fold down the front passenger seat and lift up the back to reveal space to store items like a first aid kit, wallet, odds and ends. Move to the 2nd row and lift up your feet to find under the floor storage bins that are deep enough to store a small bag. The last big storage is a bin that is the under the rear cargo area. It is more long and deep than it is wide so one can store a great amount of things that are not visible to outsiders. Other storage areas include bins in the driver and passenger doors, the glove box, cargo area, on the sides of the center console and armrest.

Budget Friendly Pricing The Dodge Journey is based price $20,995 at the lowest trim level which is very competitive pricing and a good bang for your buck when considering the quality of materials, styling, performance, and technology. My test vehicle at the Crossover Plus trim level is based at $29,795 8

passenger seats are both power adjustable with reclining action with heated seats. Another nice touch is that passengers on the 2nd and 3rd row riders can recline seats as well. Getting in vehicles with a third row is usual a pain but not with the Dodge Journey since the back doors open at almost a 90 degree angle for easy access. The only problem is with the 3rd row an average adult can fit in the seats but I wouldn’t advise sitting back there for long trips. Children are safe and Performance Crossovers are not known to be comfortable with the addition of booster seats. powerhouses on the road and the Dodge Journey Just pull the tab at the bottom of the seat on the is no different. Housed on the 4.2 touch screen is the UConnect infontainmnet center with Garmin navigation, SirusXM satellite radio, and my favorite feature, the backup camera. Backing up into spaces is so much easier with this camera as it gives a clear view of the area behind the vehicle with lines to guide you straight in the space every time. Love, love this. Overall, the Dodge Journey is great for families since it the occasionally off road adventure this will work offers what they need and gives them what they great. .N.C. International Concepts, exclusively at Macy’s, reveals its Fall 2016 campaign, “Iris Meets I.N.C.,” and launches its corresponding emoji keyboard inspired by campaign star, Iris Apfel. Designed by Snaps and with input from Apfel, the keyboard includes emojis, stickers, and GIFs featuring Apfel, her signature quotes, and items from the “Iris Meets I.N.C.” collection. The emojis also incorporate lifestyle categories, including beauty, food and beverage, and an assortment of birthday-themed graphics in celebration of Apfel’s upcoming 95th birthday on August 29. “I’m a little old for emojis, and I didn’t know what they were,” said Apfel. “But everyone seems to like them, and I want everyone to have a good time. If my face makes people happy, I’m all for it.” The creative advertising campaign, shot by Ben Watts, features Apfel, both on her own and alongside model Linda Vojtova, wearing five looks from the collection. As previously announced, INC teamed up with Apfel to develop a collection of approximately 40 “must-have” clothing and jewelry pieces that play into fall’s “mod” trend revival. Apfel consulted with I.N.C.’s design team and provided creative direction on the collection, which focuses on stylish and versatile wardrobe staples and a wide assortment of her signature bangles. The emojis will appear throughout all elements of the campaign, including product hangtags, digital advertising and direct mail. “This is Macy’s first foray into emojis, and Iris Apfel’s campaign for I.N.C. was the perfect occasion to try something we’ve never done before,” said Nancy Slavin, senior vice president of marketing for Macy’s Merchandising Group. “Iris has collaborated with other fashion brands in recent years, so we wanted to take a fresh approach. She’s an icon whose appeal spans multiple generations, and we see these emojis as a fun way to amplify the campaign through mobile first. Her fans are going to go crazy!” Beginning August 3, the emojis are available for free download on iOS and Android through the Apple App and Google Play stores. The “Iris Meets I.N.C.” collection will be available exclusively at Macy’s stores and on macys.com in early September 2016.

When Going For Gold is More Than A Dream: It’s Destiny

here Inika McPherson is small in stature standing only 5’4”, she’s big in heart and resiliency. Inika is a true testimony of triumph, an audacity of hope, and a champion of change. She grew up in Port Arthur, TX, but calculated her steps in this order: go to college, become a professional high jumper, make the US Olympic team, and then win a gold medal. She is one of three US Olympic high jumpers who definitely wants gold in her future. It’s all or nothing for this young woman who has endured her share of hardships such as a 21-month suspension from USA Track and Field, no major endorsement deals, and the difficulty of finding adequate facilities to train. If three times is a charm, 2016 will be her year where faith, talent, and dedication are the winning ticket. So what does it take to be a successful high jumper? Most would say height, but according to Inika who’s shorter than most of her competitors states, “You must have the power and strength of a sprinter, and the agility of a gazelle. I always looked up to Olympic great Jackee Joyner- Kersee. She excelled in everything she put her hand on, and her work ethic was phenomenal.” This world champion grew up in a single parent home where she witnessed her mother, Symanthia Mc Pherson, constantly struggle by working two and three jobs at a time. When her mom was at work, she hung around the neighborhood where surrogate aunts and uncles took her under their wings. “That’s just how Port Arthur is, everyone is family,” says McPherson. It was during her 4th grade summer she met Gerald Armstrong. Gerald Armstrong was her first track coach of the newly founded Port Arthur Flyers Track Club. She had her mind set on the high jump, so they researched everything they could find on the sport. As a member of this elite track club, she amassed a serious resume: winning the Junior Olympics two times, winning Texas All State, and being named ESPN female high jumper of the decade. College was never an option for the future Olympian; it was mandatory on her calculated timeline. In 2005, Inika raised the bar and went west. Her final destination was the University of Cal-Berkley where she was immediately entranced by the culture of the Bay Area, the appreciation for the arts, and the opportunity to be educated by some of the most renowned intellectuals. In 2009, she was named Cal Female of the Year, won the PAC-10 Championship, and became a 3x All American (while maintaining academic honors). All of these feats came with ease but acquiring that four year degree from Cal would have been her greatest accomplishment. Just shy of three credits before graduation, she got the most devastating news. Her coaches called her in their office and said that her scholarship was canceled. That same year she was dropped from the team to make room for two incoming high jumpers. “I was so depressed, I was so hurt knowing that I came so far,” said McPherson. She went into a deep depression and cried daily. Inika’s downfall was evident, and when her financial struggle became real she called her only lifeline: her mother. Inika moved back to Port Arthur and took a year and a half off from the sport; yes the sport she couldn’t live without to work odd jobs and live in a trailer park. Once she renewed her faith and love for the Lord, she got her rhythm back. She trained on her own even if that meant jumping over garbage cans and creating her own workout routines. “I realized that I could always count on my mother. Her unconditional love and sacrifice is the reason why I’m still here

today,” said McPherson. Her comeback came in 2011 when her mom rented a car for her to compete in a meet in El Paso. She won that meet and qualified for the World’s. This accomplishment put her confidence in stride where she produced a world record of 6’4.77” a t t h e Wo r l d I n d o o r Championship in Turkey. After the World’s she moved to Houston where she currently resides today. Then she met Patrick Pyle in 2013 while training on her own at Rice University. The world traveler and former decathlete began training her on a voluntary basis. As Pyle began to train the track star her tenacity for the sport grew along with her pockets. She began hanging with the wrong crowd, partied too much, and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. In 2014, a week before the US Outdoor Nationals, Inika’ s actions cost her livelihood: a 21-month suspension from the sport for using a metabolite of cocaine. Even though she was suspended, that didn’t deter her Olympic dream to compete in Rio. The suspension became her greatest motivation because she started training harder than she ever with Coach Pyle by her side. The suspension was lifted in May 2016, and the rest is history. For most people who would McPherson be in Inika’s track shoes they would have given up; however, Inika’s dedication and faith never wavered. Staying the course has made her a proud member of this year’s Olympic team and her target is nothing less than securing a gold medal in Rio. Inika trains five days a week in Houston with her coach, and the other two days consist of ab work, cross training, and dance class to stay light on her feet. She listens to hip-hop artists such as T.I. and Port Arthur’s own (Bun B and Pimp C of UGK) UGK to get hype for meets, and Beethoven during practice (who knew classical music helps to build the crescendo when high jumping). A trendsetter on and off the track Inika has hairstyles that are just as creative as her body art. This history maker literally wears her heart on her sleeve where she has amassed about forty tattoos highlighting major milestones and accomplishments. “I am a young woman, who accepts my mistakes. So now I surround myself with positive people. I surround myself with people who have taught me the importance of financial literacy and entrepreneurship. I consider myself a role model

where both the young and old can look up to me for inspiration. I know that this opportunity is only given to a select few, and consider myself blessed. I live by these words: a dream never dies, and the tongue is very powerful”, says McPherson. She has come full circle and will have a lot of time to reflect as she boards her flight to Rio Tuesday, August 2nd. With a full cheer squad in tow: Coach Pyle, her mother, step father, and high school track coach Ora Smith will be in Rio to witness #GoForGoldInika. The women’s high jump begins August 18th with the finals on August 20th. So what’s next for the history maker; delving into the creative arts, acting, and motivational speaking. resident Barack Obama granted a historymaking 214 commutations Wednesday, the highest number granted on a single day in more than a century. It’s a continuation of his effort to reduce sentences for drug offenders, many of whom were punished under harsh sentencing laws that have since been relaxed. Obama has now commuted the sentences for 562 individuals, more than the past nine presidents combined. Shortly after the commutations were announced, Obama took to his Facebook page to post about the inspiration for his action. “This is a country that believes in second chances,” Obama wrote. “So we’ve got to make sure that our criminal justice system works for everyone.” The commutations Obama announced Wednesday were for drug-related offenses, including many for possession and distribution of crack cocaine. Obama has argued that laws requiring mandatory minimum sentences for those types of crimes are unfair and has sought to reduce the prison terms for individuals who would already be free under current guidelines. “The individual nature of the clemency process underscores both its incredible power to change a person’s life, but also its inherent shortcoming as a tool for broader sentencing reform,” wrote Neil Eggleston, Obama’s top

Season’s 52 Sunday Brunch is a Winner! By Yolanda Pope, Culinary Writer

A

great start to any day is a good healthy breakfast, but on the weekends when a lot of us can sleep past the wee hours of the morning, having brunch is even better. For those who choose not to sweat over a stove for our first meal of the day, Houston is filled with wonderful choices for dining away from our home kitchens. This past weekend my guest and I ventured out to Season’s 52 in City Center; a warm, friendly, and knowledgeable staff greeted us. Before the actual meal, we toured the luxurious dining rooms, public and private. The space is open and is designed in the style of the late architect Franklin Lloyd Wright. Our tasting began with Peach and Raspberry Prosecco Bellinis; these cocktails were mild, refreshing, and light. The raspberry was my favorite, mainly because of the rich color, the slight tart flavor of the berries, which balanced the subtle sweetness of the bubbling wine. After our refreshments went “missing,” we sampled the Shashuka and the Brick Oven Brioche French Toast. The savory of the two dishes is made with “pasture raised eggs baked in a sauce of sweet peppers, tomatoes, chorizo and crumbled feta.” Needless to say, they had me at chorizo, which is spicy Mexican pork s au s ag e. If you’re an egg lover, this dish is for you; the only thing lacking for me was that I wanted more eggs and more chorizo. However, the French Toast delivered the perfect balance of sweetness and decadence. The blueberry infused syrup combined with the whiskey smoked brown sugar pecans gave this plate a unique flavor that made me feel like it was Christmas. Additionally, we tried the grilled chicken skewers that were served with a light corn salsa and micro greens. The meat was lean, with a slight smoky taste, which blended well with the vegetable garnish. Shortly thereafter, we were introduced to the mini dessert cups, which were a variety of custards, chocolates, caramel, citrus, and cherries depending on your choice. I grabbed the key lime pie, and my guest sampled one of the chocolate flavors. Finally, we both indulged in a bold cup of coffee, and a little Hazelnut flavored liqueur called “Frangelico” which paired well with the dessert. Moreover, we were so pleased with the service, the ambiance, and the entire tasting experience. Our hosts, Sales Manager Frederick, Beverage Manager Ray, and our server Rishad made us feel welcomed and appreciated. Keep up the good work! ave you notice a lot of wedding invitations in your mailbox? Are more of your friends announcing their engagements? Is your social calendar filling up with bridal showers? Ladies and gentlemen, we are in the midst of the loveliest time of the year, wedding season. It is time to make the wedding of your dreams, the wedding of your reality. And one of the most important elements in that big is the wedding attire. Whether you be the bride or groom, what you wear is most important not just because you are the center of all the attention but the love of life will have this image of you from this most important day ingrained in their mind for a lifetime so you want to look your absolute best. Traditionally brides will wear something white, borrowed, new, blue, and old. However, more and more are breaking from the traditional mold to express more of their personality with custom made dresses. One of the best in the business is TeKay Designs, where culture meets style. Kimma Wreh, couture fashion designer, creative director, and owner of TeKay Designs said, I got into the design business because that is what I love to do. I love making dresses and clothing for brides because it is their special day. I want them to have a lifetime experience when they look back on their wedding as something they can remember. Because the wedding dress is something most brides are really passionate about.” For the past 20 years, Wreh has been a crucial part of bride’s special day outfitting them in the most important dress of their life. Wreh specializes in making ethnic and modern

Houston Couture Designer Gives Brides Global Design Experience for Their Big Day bridal gowns. She even makes matching groom’s attire. With operations based both in Houston, TX and Africa Wreh is an international design that uses resources from around the globe making her creations unique different and unlike anything you have seen. Before beginning any new project, Wreh sets up a consultation with a bride to learn about her special day, color scheme, and ideas she has for her dress. These appointments run smoothly when the bride has some idea of what she wants so brides some prepared. During that meeting, Wreh sketches out a design. Once approved by the bride, she goes to work picking out finest materials. “As the dress comes to life, that brings joy to my heart,” said Wreh. During this process, the bride will have at least four fittings to ensure proper fit. Having a custom bridal gown does not develop overnight, especially one done by Wreh. Materials sometimes are flown in from around the world. Hand stitching is involved in many of the making of gowns. Intricate beadwork and embroidery takes some time. Recognizing all of these brides need to be conscious of one thing, waiting until the last minute for a custom dress is not an option. Wreh said that is her number one tip. “Brides need to allow enough time for the designer to make the outfit.” On average, Wreh said it takes at minimum 6months to complete a gown. If your time window is smaller, she said some of designs that are her original designs could be made in 3 months. Wreh also warns brides to maintain a stable weight. Laughing she tells stories of brides promising

to loose weight and asking her to make the dress a size smaller. “I can bring a dress in but taking it out is difficult,” she warns. Her disclaimer is for brides to wait until they are the weight that they desire then get their dress made. “Everyone is special. Everyone is unique,” said Wreh. Because of this, brides utilizing her service know that they are one of a kind when wearing one of Wreh’s designs. Whether it is just for the bride or the entire b r i d a l p a r t y, Wreh can make your special one you won’t soon forget.
