COMMENTARY

Trump’s Disgraceful Assault On The USPS and Americans By Jesse Jackson, National Political Writer

L

agging in the polls, Donald Trump has launched a campaign to discredit the upcoming election and disparage the United States Postal Service. He’s repeated the utterly baseless claim that voting by mail -- the safest way to vote in a pandemic -- will lead to massive fraud. He’s opposed aid to states that would help prepare for massive vote by mail and blocked the $25 billion the United States Postal Service needs to make up for lost revenue in the pandemic. His intent is clear, alleging that without the money, “you can’t have universal mail-in voting because they are not equipped to have it.” Trump has even suggested that ballots that are cast before election day but not received until after Election Day should not be counted. Since polls show his supporters are more likely to vote in person and Democratic voters more likely to vote by mail, Trump may believe that sowing panic about voting by mail may enable him to steal an election he would otherwise lose. This assault on the USPS and the election is disgraceful and dishonest. In reality, voting by mail has been used by millions of voters, including President Trump and his family, who routinely vote by mail. Thirty-one million votes were cast by mail in 2018 with no evidence of meaningful fraud. Moreover, if -- and that’s a big IF -- allowed to do its work, the US Postal Service can easily handle the surge of mail that might result from 150 million Americans choosing to vote by mail this fall rather than vote in person. As Mark Dimondstein, president of the American Postal Workers Union reported on my radio show, the Postal Service routinely

4

handles 500 million pieces of mail a day. Around Christmas, that surges to more than 600 million a day, with postal workers pushing to get cards delivered in time for the holiday. With over 30,000 post offices across the country, postal workers, essential workers in the pandemic, take their mission -- to bind the nation together and render postal services to all communities -- seriously. That’s why the post office consistently enjoys overwhelming support from Americans across the political spectrum. The only question is whether Trump, the Republican Senate, and Trump’s postmaster general and aides will succeed in sabotaging the Post Office so it can’t do its job. In recent weeks, Louis DeJoy, Trump’s postmaster general, a multi-millionaire in office for little more than a month, imposed a series of “reforms” -- without consultation with postal workers, customers or local communities -- that are slowing the delivery of the mail. These include cutting back hours, eliminating overtime, removing mail processing equipment and mailboxes. With the Postal Service already understaffed, the result is to delay the mail. This endangers not only votes cast by mail, but the delivery of medication to seniors and veterans, the delivery of Social Security checks and much more. The USPS has now announced that it won’t treat votes by mail as priority mail without first class postage and informed 46 states that, under their current deadlines, it can’t guarantee delivery of mailed in ballots in time to be counted. Both of these efforts -- the effort to suppress the vote and to undermine the US Postal Service -- are part of lon-

August 20 – August 26, 2020

ger-term Republican plans. The Trump administration has announced that it wants to privatize the Postal Service, selling off pieces to private companies. DeJoy, with multimillion-dollar investments in private competitors to the Post Office, has both financial and ideological interest in doing just that. Republicans have forced the Post Office to prepay its pension obligations -something no other company or agency in the country is forced to do -- in order to cripple its ability to finance its own operations. Delaying service of the mail is a feature of their plan, not a bug. Similarly, Republican efforts to suppress the vote aren’t limited to Trump’s blatant assault on voting by mail. Republicans have amassed a war chest of $20 million to array legions of lawyers to fight against any efforts to make registration or voting more accessible. They’ve lined up thousands of volunteers to harass and intimidate voters at the polls. The head of a minority party, Trump stated the obvious, saying that if everyone could vote, Republicans would never be elected. This disgraceful assault on our democracy and on our postal service is already meeting resistance. Demonstrators paraded in front of DeJoy’s private residence in Washington, D.C., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is convening the House to grill DeJoy on his actions, and to pass standalone legislation to block any changes in operation that would delay delivery of the mail. Passage will require Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell and the Republican Senate majority to stand up for a safe election in the pandemic. Citizens should be mobiliz-

ing pressure across the country, with demonstrations at post offices in support of the service, with calls to legislators demanding action, with pressure on state and local election officials to provide the resources needed for more drop-off boxes, more hours of early voting, more polling places. LeBron James and the LA Dodgers are opening up Dodger Stadium to allow voters to vote at a safe distance. Every professional, college and high school stadium should join in this effort to ensure that voting is safe. And we need to vote in large numbers and early. If voting by mail, mail your ballot in early or take it to a drop-off box to ensure delivery. Don’t wait for November; cast it before October 25. If voting in person, vote early to avoid long lines on Election Day. Make certain you know where your precinct is -- Republicans have been eliminating precincts, and election officials have been closing polling places, particularly in black and brown communities. Trump is afraid that if Americans vote in large numbers -- particularly people of color whom he has continually insulted -- he will lose. We must act now to overcome whatever obstacles he erects to make that fear come true. You can write to the Rev. C

urrent Harris County Chief Deputy, Teneshia Hudspeth, won the nomination for Harris County Clerk from the Harris County Democratic Party precinct chairs at the recent County Executive Committee meeting. “I am honored and thankful for the nomination to run as the Democratic candidate for Harris County Clerk in

the upcoming general election this November,” said Hudspeth. “During these difficult times, Harris County residents deserve a dedicated and experienced public official in this office.” Hudspeth became the first African-American woman to serve as Chief Deputy for the Harris County Clerk’s Office last January, and if elected will become the first African-American woman to represent this office. “I bring to the position 15 years of experience with the Clerk’s Office, moving up the ranks in county government, serving our diverse communities,

while earning their trust and that of my colleagues,” added Hudspeth. “I will continue to serve with honesty, integrity, and transparency.” Unlike other positions on the ballot, the person elected Harris County Clerk at the November 3, 2020 election will assume office immediately upon completion of the official canvass (approximately November 13, 2020). the College of Education and Human Services as we deepen our university’s impact and influence on teacher preparation across the state of Texas.” Educator preparation programs face unprecedented challenges as they prepare the next generation of teachers in uncertain environments and seek to address educational inequities revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic. More than ever, the field needs leaders who can foster individual and organizational learning and ensure that all children have access to rigorous, content-rich instruction—whether in-person or online. Deans for Impact aims to fill this need through its yearlong Impact Academy fellowship, which empowers dean-level leaders with skills, knowledge, and strategies to pursue instructional excellence in the face of new challenges. McLeod is one of 17 fellows announced as part of the fellowship’s fifth cohort. Each cohort is selected

through an intensive nomination and application process. This year’s Impact Academy fellowship combines monthly virtual sessions with regular learning modules and ongoing leadership coaching from Deans for Impact members. Fellows strengthen their ability to engage faculty, staff, and K-12 school partners in a shared vision for change, grounded in a deep scientific understanding about how students learn. Deans for Impact is committed to reflecting the broad diversity of programs preparing new educators in this country. Fellows lead institutions in 12 states from Delaware to California and Michigan to Mississippi. They represent public and private universities, minority-serving institutions and predominately white institutions, non-traditional programs and one urban teacher residency. Collectively, these institutions serve over 6,600 future teachers annually. McLeod concluded, “We’re excited to

1,000 Harris County Department Of Education Head Start Preschoolers Begin Virtually

H

By www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

arris County Department of Education Head Start teacher Lois Rose has one hard-and-fast rule in her pre-k classroom, be it virtual or in-person. “We take care of each other,” Rose said. As 145 HCDE Head Start teachers and teacher assistants start school virtually Sept. 8 with their students, they begin the year getting to know each other. A slate of class rules follows. No running or hitting. Take care of others. Rose expects challenges, but she has big plans for the students in her virtual classroom. HCDE operates 14 Head Start sites and has Early Head Start programs at three of those sites, as well as four additional childcare partnership sites. In total, the program provides comprehensive services for 1,060 families of children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in northeast Harris County. Plans are for in-person classes to resume as COVID-19 numbers decline, HCDE Head Start Senior Director Venetia Peacock said. Manager Pamela Jones-Lee

oversees education and disability services within HCDE Head Start. Teachers use Frog Street pre-k curriculum for both Head Start and Early Head Start. Curriculum is aligned to Texas pre-k guidelines and Head Start early learning outcomes. Teachers are using the Microsoft Teams to meet virtually with students and parents. “We know that many of our families have other children, so we don’t want to overwhelm them,” Jones-Lee said. “Family service providers see the challenges families are facing and they relate those back to us. Coping with COVID-19 is enough. We want to do what is best for their families.” Two synchronous or live sessions will be held twice a week for 45 minutes each with the pre-k learners and their parents. “On a virtual day, parents pick a time frame for class which fits their schedule best, and students attend live sessions,” Jones-Lee said. Outdoor time, music and movement time and art projects are sent to parents as supplemental activities. Homework packets are picked up Mondays through a drive-through system along with meals made available three days a week. Teachers connect through a wave and a smile. “Mondays are very important because they enable teachers to touch based and greet students and parents to

maintain human contact through safe, social distancing,” Peacock said. At Early Head Start centers with the infants and toddlers, sessions are one-on-one with families and allow for modeling learning activities with parents first. Later, students join in the sessions and feedback is given by teachers and their assistants. Home visits allow parents to see what virtual learning will look like. Teachers can tour student home life virtually and get to know the family. “Home visits allow parents and teachers to set goals,” Jones-Lee said. Families have generally been very supportive of virtual instruction, she explained. Collectively, virtual learning is important for families because they want their preschoolers to have the social and academic skills to be ready for kindergarten. Lessons for the pre-k students include a social-emotional component along with literacy and math. A class on friendship allows children to learn about themselves and their family relationships. During the pandemic, Head Start staff are especially attuned to the social-emotional needs of students. “So, if a parent relates any kind of learning or social-emotional challenge to the teacher or family service provider, there may be a referral of the child to a specialist or mental

Lois Rose – Harris County Department Of Education Head Start Teacher health professional,” Jones-Lee said. Back in the classroom, Rose sees her virtual classroom as an open house of sorts. Last spring, parents would join into Zoom sessions to see what their children were learning and view classroom structure. When her 4-year-olds get fidgety in the virtual classroom, the tactics are much the same as the regular class. “We stop and do something fun that they like and then get them back on track again,” Rose said. Calling it “a blessing” to have a new class of students, the Head Start teacher at the HCDE Fifth Ward Head Start Center is eager to get to know her students and set expectations. “It will be different,” Rose jests. “We will need to do thumbs up instead of high fives.” To find out more about enrollment opportunities in HCDE Head Start or Early Head Start, go to: www.hcde-texas.org/head-start

Comerica Bank Partners With Minority Depository Institutions C

Locally, Unity National Bank Will Now Have The Ability To Provide Low Cost Funds Within The Houston Communities Severly Impacted By The COVID-19 Pandemic

omerica Bank announced this week that it is moving $10 million in deposits to Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) within its five-state footprint, as well as building a mutual mentoring relationship with these institutions. MDIs assist minority and under-served communities and foster economic viability in these communities. Of this $10 million in deposits, Comerica has allocated $7.5 million ($2.5 million each) to First Independence Bank in Detroit, Mich.; Broadway Federal Bank in Los Angeles, Calif.; and Unity National Bank in Houston, Texas. The relationship includes a partnership that fosters collaboration and mentorship, with Comerica and MDIs each sharing their expertise in key lines of business. “Comerica recognizes the critical role Minority Depository Institutions play within communities that have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Comerica Bank Chief Community Officer Irvin Ashford, Jr. “Entrepreneurs and small business owners are the anchor of local communities, and working with these MDIs will go a long way to ensuring that they continue to not only survive but thrive in the current economic climate and beyond.”

First Independence Bank

First Independence Bank is the only MDI located in the state of Michigan and is the seventh largest African-American-controlled commercial bank in the United States. Established in 1970, the bank continues to be a responsible leader, efficiently serving the financial needs of its community, businesses and customers nationwide. “The First Independence Bank and Comerica Bank both hold complimentary synergies and efforts that aim towards empowering Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) and the communities that we serve, and we are truly thankful for their purposeful support,” said Dimitrius M. Hutcherson Chief Administrative Officer/Chief Technology Officer, First Independence Bank.

Broadway Federal Bank

Broadway Federal Bank was founded in 1946 by a group of civic-minded individuals to provide financial services to minorities in the Greater Los Angeles area, who were not being serviced by the existing financial institutions. Today, the bank is the leading community-oriented savings bank in Southern California serving low- to moderate-income communities and wholly-owned subsidiary of Broadway Financial Corporation (NASDAQ Capital Market symbol: BYFC). The bank is focused on addressing the chronic need for affordable housing for families living within low- to moderate-income communities throughout Southern California. “This deposit by Comerica Bank is an in-

Unity National Bank

Unity National Bank was founded in 1963 and remains the only African-American-owned banking institution in Texas. The bank works closely with local civic organizations to strengthen the community and promote harmony. Its vision remains to serve as the financial institution that partners with Houston’s under-served communities to create economic opportunities. “Unity National Bank appreciates the depository investment made by Comerica,” said Unity

The program, which is funded with $15 million of the City’s allocated CARES Act 2020 funds, will provide immediate and short-term grant assistance to small businesses and chambers of commerce that have been adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Small businesses that are in most financial need and exhibit a moderate to high likelihood of surviving the pandemic’s adverse impacts will receive the most consideration for grant funds,” Mayor Turner said. “I highly encourage you to take your time to complete your application fully and carefully before the September 4th deadline.” To qualify for the SBERP, business owners must meet the following requirements: · Must be a business whose

Houston Alumnae Chapter Of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Awards $121,700 In Scholarship To More Than 50 Students During This Time Of Critical Financial Need, Houston Alumnae Chapter Supports Deserving Students Pursuing Higher Education By www.StyleMagazine.com Newswire

espite this moment of racial turmoil, health uncertainty and economic hardship, the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. awarded $121,700 scholarships this year. These funds reduced the financial burden for more than 50 recent high school graduates and current college students. The organization recognized scholarship winners in a virtual ceremony during May Week, which is an annual observance highlighting academic and professional achievements that emphasize the importance of higher education. As an organization deeply rooted in public service with a focus on the Black community, the scholarship funds were distributed at a critical time of need for

recipients. “COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on the Black community. African Americans are dual survivors of the disproportionate health impacts of the coronavirus and an inequitable vulnerability to job loss or pay reduction,” said Jona Sargent, President of the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. “Due to the increased financial burden of COVID-19, many families are worried about whether or not they can send their student to college or keep them there. As such, this year we strived to increase our award amounts.” Recent scholarship funds were raised at the sorority’s 18th Annual Jazz Soirée Scholarship Fundraiser held in

December 2019 in partnership with One Delta Plaza Educational Center (ODPEC). With the $121,700 raised during the sorority’s Jazz Soirée and from members and community partner-funded donations, 37 high school students and six college students received scholarship funding. The sorority also distributed eight $500 laptop gift cards to graduating high school seniors who participated in Houston Alumnae’s enrichment programs: EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) and Dr. Jeanne L. Noble GEMS (Growing &, Empowering Myself Successfully). Seventeen of the 29 colleges where awarded students plan to attend or are currently enrolled are Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs). Others intend to matriculate at schools such as University of Houston, University of Southern California, Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University. “We realize that this year was particularly difficult for our applicants and we are humbled by our ability to give during this time,” said Thelma Kennedy-Malveaux, Scholarship CoChair of the Houston Alumnae Chap-

ter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. “Our total awards have greater importance this year. Many other scholarship programs were not available because of the abbreviated academic year” To qualify for these scholarships, student applicants were required to meet grade point average, citizenship/residency and other criteria while displaying commitment to furthering their education. In addition to Kennedy-Malveaux, Nita Gilbert, the other Scholarship Co-Chair, and HAC committee members helped award funds to deserving students. Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has awarded more than $1 million to hundreds of high-achieving students in pursuit of higher education since 1997.

WHY AMERICA STILL LOVES MICHELLE OBAMA Her Speech In Support of Democratic Nominee – Joe Biden and Vice Presidential Running Mate – Kamala Harris Was Paramount For The Upcoming Elections November 3, 2020

F

By Jo-Carolyn Goode, Managing Editor – www.StyleMagazine.com

ormer First Lady Michelle Obama grabbed us by the heart the minute she stepped on to the national stage. She became a role model for little girls and grown women too. Her presence just commands a certain type of respect when she enters any room. Her words gripped you right from the start and don’t let go until she is finished speaking. Her style is impeccable. Add on her love for Barack Obama and she has the full package. Here are just a few reasons we are still in love with Michelle Obama.

Her intelligence

Obama is smart. With degrees from Howard University, Princeton University, and Harvard Law School, she is not just smart for a Black girl but smart period. Early on the value of education was instilled in her. Although neither of her parents had a college education, Obama was focus on becoming the second college graduate of her family. Her older brother graduated from Princeton in 1983 and became the basketball coach at Oregon State University and Brown University. Obama followed his steps to Princeton. While attending these prestigious universities, Obama struggled with her identity and thought she could not be “Black and brilliant.”

Her Style

In the White House, Obama’s style was timeless and classic. She was often critiqued far harder than any First Lady before her for wearing color and

showing off her guns. Whether it is was a solid colored palette or whimsical pattern, it seemed she could wear anything but was restricted due to her title. However, Obama has a style and she owns it. Now post White House life, Obama has gone for more freeing casual look these days. Whether dressed to the nines or comfy casual, Mrs. O makes sure her clothes make a statement. For example, her look during her speech at the Democratic National Convention spoke volumes. ZakiyaLarry.com’s media and brand expert, Zakiya Larry said her attire was intentional. Here’s why: Dressed in a chocolate skirt and blouse. She looked stunning in the brown color palette. Her auburn highlights in her hair compliment her skin tone and natural makeup look. Now, something that you probably didn’t consider was how the lighting played in her overall look. Larry said the lighting had golden hues that accented her brown skin to ensure that she could be clearly seen. Larry dives even further into Obama’s look by telling what three things she is communicating. Earthy Tones – “Strategically, her color palette created a smooth, cohesive slate reminiscent of soil or “getting grounded”...back to our roots as a nation, so to speak,” said Larry. Racial Equity – “Though she wears her skin daily, her look and lighting reflected hues of the people crying

Former First Lady – Michelle Obama Said That Donald J. Trump “Cannot Meet This Moment.” She continued “He Cannot Be Who We Need Him To Be For Us.” out right now. The message could be...I see you. I represent you because I am one of you, too. And yet, as a country, we are all one,” said Larry. Supernova – Larry calls Obama a supernova for how the set behind even plays a part in the totality of her presentation. She wore brown tones. Her set background was mainly lighter shades of brown, almost neutral. But did you notice the one pop of color that was strategically placed over her left shoulder? Sticking out in a bold red and strong blue was the Biden/Harris sign. Larry pointed out, She made sure her presence spoke volumes, but stood down just a bit to keep the focus on the #campaign at hand, via the bright signs in the background.” The ability to both stand out and stand down makes Obama a genius in Larry’s book.

Her power

Obama has a tremendous amount of power because of the national platform she has been afforded. Past experiences let Joe Biden know the Cuthbert had to be on his team. Obama’s accessories did more than just add little touches her look. Her classic pearl earrings were gone. Instead, Obama opted for some custom made jewelry by BYCHARLI and Charli Cuthbert, jewelry designer ad owner. Her “vote” necklace and gold hoop earrings served as a subtle reminder about voting in the upcoming election.

Her message

Literally, every time Obama

speaks I get fixated into a trance watching and admiring her. She was more than a first lady but she was a changed agent. Every time the former first lady speaks people listen. Clear poignant thought provoking messages helps to fire up voters. Obama’s delivery takes care of the rest. In her speech at the DNC, Obama laid out the truth speaking to Americans like she was talking with a close friend. “He cannot meet this moment,” she said, speaking of President Donald Trump. “He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us.” She continued, “It is what it is.” Going straight for the jugular, Obama highlighted Trump’s slow response to COVID-19 causing thousands of deaths, countless Americans without jobs, our suffering economy, and the Black Lives Matter movement. “So if you take one thing from my words tonight, it is this: if you think things cannot possibly get worse, trust me, they can; and they will if we don’t make a change in this election.” The former first lady continued, “If we have any hope of ending this chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it.” I could go on and on about Michelle’s classiness, poise, and grace. There has been no one like her and it could be hard pressed to find anyone close to her. That’s why she is my forever first lady and why we still love her. www.JoeBiden.com www.Democrats.org www.StyleMagazine.com

Dining Out At Home During The Pandemic With Uber Eats

S

By Yolanda Pope, Culinary Writer www.StyleMagazine.com

taying home is our new normal for now and many of us have been absent from some of our favorite eating spots. Sadly, some of these establishments have folded up permanently. Additionally, the food festivals, media Invites, and packed Indoor seating cease to exist at this moment. On the bright side, Uber Eats and other food delivery services have expanded their services to include many more restaurants. Also, with the increased demand for deliveries, more drivers have been added to the team

to keep the food traffic moving. I met several new drivers that had been laid off from other jobs that are now staying busy with Uber Eats. Most, seem to be happy with the freedom it afforded them, as well as having a little extra income. My co-workers and I are partial to Uber Eats because we have tried other good services, but Uber seemed to offer more of the choices that we enjoy. Like most who use the delivery apps, we have learned to stick to the places that are near us distance wise, which keeps our waiting time very short. In fact, we have found a new “favorite” Mexican establishment called Raizes Mexican Kitchen, located at 345 Dulles Avenue in Stafford, Texas. We are now repeat customers, and my favorite dish so far has been the Beef Nachos, which I refer to as “macho nachos”. My co-workers prefer the tacos, chicken, and beef

fajita. The photo included in this article shows my first order from Raizes, I couldn’t believe huge the serving was, plus the flavor was amazing. The chips were crisp, hot, and freshly made. The re-fried beans were tasty and well-seasoned. The meat was plentiful, tender, lean, and loaded with just the right amount of spices. The chili con queso was drizzled on evenly throughout the dish but did not make the chips soggy. The plating was neat and pleasing to the eyes. My food was packed well, not a drop spilled on the side or appeared as if it had traveled anywhere. Most importantly, the driver protected his hands and face by wearing

gloves and a mask. Finally, we are pleased that we are able to support our local restaurants and our local economy by being able to dine-out safely at home while enjoying delicious food. S.W.A.C. Releases ‘Tentative’ Spring 2020 Football Schedule By Brian Barefield, Sports Editor www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

T

his past week the Southwestern Athletic Conference made a move to try to bring some sense of normalcy back to its 10 football programs. They announced the league’s 2021 spring football schedule Each SWAC team will play six conference football games to include four games against division opponents and two games against non-division opponents. Every member institution will also have the option to play one non-conference game. Week one will begin February 27th with notable games such as Texas Southern traveling to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Prairie View A&M facing Grambling State in the State Fair Classic. “We’re glad to have an understanding of where we’re heading, and we’re ready to engage our fans and get

them ready for what’s sure to be another exciting season of Panther football,” said PVAMU Athletics Director Dr. Donald Reed. Week Two will have both instate schools in Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern facing off against each other. It won’t have the same feel as the first weekend in September, but the rivalry still means the same no matter when the game is played. The conference-wide slate includes one non-conference open date for each team and conference contests scheduled each week beginning in Week One. Additionally, the league has designated a bye week for each team during the week of March 13 to ensure that fans and supporters have the opportunity to attend the Cricket Wireless Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments (March 9-13). The Cricket Wireless SWAC Football Championship will be played May 1st on the campus of the highest

seeded team at the conclusion of regular season play. SWAC football teams are scheduled to begin preparation for the season with an eight-week training period beginning in January. “The SWAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors, Sports Administrators Committee, COVID-19 Advisory Committee, along with our fall sports scheduling groups have worked tirelessly over recent months to get to the point where we are able to announce a significant part of the rescheduling of our fall sports,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. “Collectively as a conference, we look forward to continuing on the path to a safe return to competition that we know all of our student-athletes, team staff, institutional administrators, and supporters would like to see in the coming months. This schedule allows the needed flexibility for any additional adjustments that will need to be made once the NCAA releases its revised spring calendar. Clearly, our plans in

regards to the safe return to competition within our league will ultimately be dictated by the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic in the respective regions of our member institutions.” The SWAC will continue to work with local and state medical experts along with governmental officials to gather additional information, evaluate emerging data and advancements while monitoring new developments regarding the pandemic. The Southwestern Athletic Conference will remain prepared to make any necessary adjustments identified to be in the best interest of the health, safety, and wellness of its student-athletes. www.SMAC.org www.StyleMagazine.com
