White Supremacy

But Joe Biden's pleas for citizens to unite in purging White Supremacy – which he warned on Tuesday was poisoning the nation – were quickly undermined by a backlash from conservative media stars who accused him of exploiting the murder of 10 Black American in Buffalo, New York by a right-wing extremist.

COMMENTARY

WE CAN'T AFFORD TO LET HATE AND LIES WIN AGAIN By Jesse Jackson, National Political Writer

W

hen Payton Gendron, an 18-year-old white teenager opened fire on shoppers in the Tops supermarket in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday, he knew exactly who he was aiming at – African Americans. Ten were murdered and three wounded in the attack, 11 of the victims were Black. The crime is murder; the motive was hate. The teenager identified himself as a white supremacist and a terrorist in a 180-page screed police recovered. The murderer repeatedly cited what is called the “replacement theory,” a grotesque conspiracy theory circulating on the right that claims that Democrats and/or Jews are attempting to replace White Americans by importing obedient, non-white immigrants. The murderer ironically lived in a community – Conklin, N.Y. – with a population that is over 90 percent white, and less than 1 percent African American. He chose to travel 200 miles to find the target for his hate. The loathsome lie of replacement theory is propagated on the right by politicians and propagandists eager to profit politically by fanning racial fears and resentment. It isn’t new. It was central to the motivation of the Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War when it unleashed a reign of terror on former slaves seeking to vote and exercise their rights under the Constitution. The plantation elite feared that Black voters would join with poor white farmers, take control, and pass programs for free public education, land redistribution, a decent minimum wage, workers’ rights on the job. The Klan terror was designed to

4

51

intimidate Blacks. The big lie about replacement was designed to mislead and divide white workers. The lie has persisted in various forms for decades, particularly after the Voting Rights Act was passed and Blacks began to register and vote in larger numbers. In recent years, as with too many of the lunatic conspiracies of what used to be the wingnut right, it has been adopted by leaders of Donald Trump’s Republican Party and rightwing media commentators. Elise Stefanik, the third ranking Republican in the House, who comes from the Buffalo area, has not hesitated to charge that Democrats are purposefully seeking to use immigrants to win elections. Tucker Carlson, the leading right-wing commentator on Fox News, continues to propagate the lie – dismissing any criticism as “hysterical,” since he asserted last year that the Democratic Party is trying to replace the current electorate … “with new people, more obedient voters from the Third World.” This loathsome lie is toxic, designed to stoke racial fears. It is also insidious and cynical – seeking to direct the anger of those who have watched plants closed and communities shuttered away from the CEOs and politicians who are responsible and toward African Americans, Hispanics and other immigrants who also suffer the loss. The charge is laughable. But, as Eugene Robinson writes in the Washington Post, do not laugh. . “This paranoid fantasy killed nine Black worshipers at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C., in 2015. It killed 11

May 19, 2022 - May 25, 2022

Payton Gendron Jewish worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018. It killed 23 people, mostly Latinos, at a Walmart in El Paso in 2019. And now we have the carnage in Buffalo. The state will hold Payton Gendron accountable for his act of terror. The politicians and propagandists propagating the lies and the hate surely won’t consider themselves responsible – even though they know the lies they spread are false and dangerous. Political arsonists like Tucker Carlson and Elise Stefanik and their ilk will keep fanning the flames so long as it appears to profit them commercially or politically. When the Klan spread its bile and its terror after the Civil War, it succeeded. The fusion coalitions that grew up between Blacks and poor

www.StyleMagazine.com

farmers split apart. Blacks were terrorized and driven from the voting booth. The resurgent plantation elite imposed segregation – legal apartheid – across the South for another 100 years. We can’t afford to let hate and lies win again. That will require people of conscience standing up. It will require an independent media that exposes the lies and those who propagate them. It will require on-the-ground organizing, neighbor to neighbor, that scorns those who would try to divide us. It will require leaders who bring us together defeating those who would drive us apart. And as the Buffalo murders show once more, now is the time.

C

adillac this week announced new details in the brand’s transformation to an electric future and a transformative EV customer experience, including ordering information, pricing and EPA-estimated range for the 2023 LYRIQ RWD. Cadillac also announced a special charging offer, designed to simplify the charging experience for LYRIQ customers. “These are important steps for Cadillac, as we make good on our promise to deliver an EV offering more than 300 miles of range and move toward an all-electric portfolio by 2030,” said Global Cadillac Vice President Rory Harvey. “Cadillac will define the future of luxury transportation through its range of forthcoming EVs, and it all begins with LYRIQ.” Ordering for the 2023 LYRIQ RWD and AWD models opens on May 19, with RWD deliveries expected starting this fall. Deliveries of the 2023 LYRIQ Debut Edition, which was available through reservation only, will begin this summer. The LYRIQ RWD model offers an EPA-estimated 312 miles of range on a full charge1 and has a starting MSRP of $62,9902. The AWD model, which will start at $64,9902, adds a second drive unit, placed at the front of the vehicle to enhance vehicle dynamics and performance even further for drivers. When orders open, customers will now have the option to select from two new exterior colors: Opulent Blue Metallic3 and Crystal White Tricoat3. Initial deliveries of the AWD model are expected to start in early 2023, with EPA-estimated range expected to be announced closer to the start of production.

customers will receive the option to choose either two years of unlimited public charging credits at EVgo charging stations or a credit of up to $1,500 toward home charger installation through Qmerit4. Customers who select the home charger installation credit will receive up to $1,500 that can be applied toward an eligible professional installation of a Level 2 (AC) charger or at 240-volt outlet at home through Qmerit, for convenient, quick charging of the LYRIQ’s battery5. For customers looking to install a home charger, Cadillac can help throughout the process. Every Cadillac LYRIQ comes with a portable dual-level cordset charger, which enables customers to charge their vehicles from both 120-volt and 240-volt outlets. Through Cadillac accessories, customers will be able to purchase faster 11.5 kilowatt or 19.2kW wall-mounted charging stations. By installing a 240-volt outlet or wall charger, customers can reduce the time it takes to charge a depleted battery from 3 days to overnight6. For installation assistance, Cadillac is working with Qmerit, a nationwide network to help owners find qualified, experienced Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment installers. “This unique offer will elevate our customers’ experience with the LYRIQ, helping them make a smoother, more transparent transition to all-electric driving,” said Harvey. “Like the LYRIQ itself, the charging experience will set the standard for customers’ EV experiences.”

LYRIQ Drives the Future

The all-new LYRIQ elevates an iconic brand, building on a century of Cadillac’s design and technology innovations to usher in a new era in elec-

tric luxury vehicles. It is designed with premier technologies and stirring performance capabilities, enabled by the vehicle’s dedicated electric architecture. A 12-module, 100 kWh battery pack delivers a Cadillac-estimated 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque in the RWD model, while the AWD model amps up the output, with the addition of a second drive unit that raises capability with an estimated 500 horsepower. The AWD model is further distinguished with performance-oriented driving dynamics with power flowing through all four wheels, along with a 3,500-pound trailering capacity7. The LYRIQ RWD model offers an EPA-estimated range of 312 miles with a full charge1. That range is optimized with the Ultium Platform’s energy recovery system, which can capture and repurpose waste energy from the battery. In addition to optimizing range, the system can also help reduce battery energy needed for heating, increase charging speed and even contribute to the vehicle’s performance driving dynamics. When it comes to charging, LYRIQ offers at-home Level 2 (AC) charge rates of up to 19.2 kW, which can add up to 52 miles of range per hour of charge8. It also features DC fast charging rates of up to 190 kW, enabling an estimated 76 miles of range in about 10 minutes6 of charging time.

This technology, when combined with LYRIQ’s Electric Vehicle Sound Enhancement, which balances and blends the propulsion system’s sounds, creates a luxurious and quiet cabin. The Cadillac LYRIQ is produced at GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee assembly facility11, which received a $2 billion investment to support electric vehicle production. An additional $2.3 billion is being invested in an all-new battery cell manufacturing plant at Spring Hill, by Ultium Cells LLC, the joint venture between GM and LG Energy Solution.

OP-ED: RACISM LIVES! RACISM KILLS! Bishop Dixon Provides Thoughts In Perverted Patriotism

By Dr. James W. F. Dixon, II, Presiding Bishop – Kingdom Builders Global Fellowship / StyleMagazine.com

O

Dr. James W. F. Dixon, II

ur hearts are broken for the families of the thirteen people shot of which ten people were killed in the mass shooting in Buffalo, NY. According to his now public manifesto, entitled “The Great Replacement,” the killer, Payton Grendon was inspired by recent hate crime incidents such as, the mass murder at Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in South Carolina, a synagogue attacked in Pittsburg, the Walmart massacre in El Paso, Texas, and a white man who targeted Mosques in New Zealand killing fifty-one people. Our prayers are with you! The alarm sounds again. This time it is Buffalo, New York. The evil system of American racism continues to produce soldiers of mass death, like the 18-year-old killer, Payton Gendron. Hopefully, this is a resounding alarm to us, that in our cities, towns, states and nation, there is an unidentified rabid army of covert cowards who threaten our national security. These

12

are homegrown terrorists. Many of these demented disciples feel justified by perverted interpretations of the Bible that is preached in many churches. For them, hating and killing Black people, and others whom they deem less than human, is a demonstration of what I call, ‘Perverted Patriotism.’ The Bible is the sacred Book of Christians. Similarly, the U.S. flag is the sacred banner of the RepublicUnited State of America. Both sacred items have been desecrated by white supremacists who raise them high in the spirit of hateful and extremist violent ideology. How long will a deaf ear be turned to the rhetoric of hate and fear mongering that fuels the movement of human degradation and oppression? According to their own admission, they are committed to preserving a “white only” power structure, by the elimination of Blacks, by any means necessary. Parents, Faith leaders, Elected leaders and Media influencers have a definite responsibility. Not only

May 19, 2022 - May 25, 2022

should you condemn racist shootings, but racist sayings, racist policies, and racist propaganda must be confronted and condemned. Every American faith leader, whether a preacher, minister, or teacher, especially our white clergy colleagues, should vigorously condemn every expression of bigotry, discrimination, and racist ideology. Perpetuating and protecting racist systems indoctrinate misguided psychopaths who eventually carry out these missions of deadly force. Those who are silent are complicit, and complicity is consent. Consent gives confirmation to this wickedness. Shouldn’t your voice be God’s voice? It is urgent that people of faith lead a movement of love and mutual respect. Can’t we see that our narrow political power agendas are incapable of producing a civil and safe society? Our collective aim and commitment should he creating what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called the “Beloved Community.” The question is, do we have the

www.StyleMagazine.com

courage to love ALL our neighbors as ourselves. Whether it is in a pulpit, behind a desk, wearing a badge, holding a gavel, or waving a flag, racist rhetoric crates a culture of hate and undermines democracy. “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.” If Payton Grendon had learned this song, ten people would still be alive.

SPORTS: ROCKETS WIN THIRD PICK IN LOTTERY Will They Use The Selection In June? By Brian Barefield, Sports Editor – StyleMagazine.com

F

or the second consecutive season, the Houston Rockets will select in the top five of the NBA Draft after the lottery drawing on Tuesday night. With general manager, Rafael Stone representing the Rockets organization, Houston secured the number three overall selection for the first time in team history since 1983. Although the Rockets are slated to select third, Stone has not ruled out any team that may be willing to construct an excellent trade package for Houston’s pick. “I am definitely not going to block them out,” said Stone to the media during his virtual press conference after the lottery selection show was complete. “If they want to talk, I am

Houston Rockets GM – Rafael Stone to represent the team at Tuesday’s NBA draft lottery

always available to talk. If they (NBA general managers) are interested in doing something, we are always available to listen. If there something that makes sense for both teams, then something will get done.” Stone spoke more in-depth about drafting a player that fits the

Rockets system if the team decides to select a player at their current spot-on June 23rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. “If we end up picking, we’ll have the ability to pick a really, really talented basketballplayer at 3,” Stone said. “It’s on us to pick the right player,

it’s on us to develop the player and it’s up to the player who comes to us, too, assuming we even use the pick.” Houston will have multiple selections in the first round for the second consecutive year after securing the 17th pick from the Brooklyn Nets in the James Harden trade. Last season the Rockets selected Jalen Green (2), Josh Christopher (24), and Usman Garuba (23) in the first round. They also acquired the rights to Alperen Sengun from Oklahoma City at number 16. Back home from a Godforsaken Louisiana family reunion, Sarah Doucette Jean-Louis jumps heart first into a murder investigation with her hot and sexy former attorney, Manuel. It’s a new life for the Oakland family therapist post-scandal. Manuel’s client is charged with murder and he wants Sarah to use her gift of visions to help his investigator find the real killer. In her unique and humorous style, Sarah brings her head-spinning psychic intuition, large vodka bottles and a few other surprises to the case. Yadira Lopez’s stepson is the accused, but Sarah feels there’s something spine chilling and eerie about Yadira. Sarah props up her visions with help from some unbelievable sources. And if the case weren’t complicated and odd enough, Sarah’s life long nemesis, cousin Stacy, shows up in California. Her year will be mysterious and murderous with a touch of crazy! Life remains a contrast of contemporary northern California and old-world Louisiana Creole traditions for Sarah. She is a trained family therapist with volatile relationships. Her background of science and logic is defiled by persistent visions into the future. And while it is Creole tradition for a woman to marry, Sarah has had many loves but no husband. In Secrets, Spells and Snake Eyes, Sarah’s second journey, she learns to handle her mystical second sight and prepares to fall in love—again. We laugh and feel a bit tipsy from all of the action and the Sunday martini brunches with her girlfriends. Laissez les bon temp rouler, mon cher!

uanced Black,” an exhibition now opens at the Community Artists’ Collective through May 28, features artworks by Black candidates in the University of Houston’s Master of Fine Arts program. Seven artists (Brian Ellison, Mark Francis, Catherine Davila-Martinez, Garrett Griffin, Saran Alderson, Marc Furi, and the only undergraduate, Christopher Paul) show work of various disciplines in the gallery at 4101 San Jacinto, Suite 116. Francis’ “Mother with Protector” painting is part of an ongoing series called “You Are Art: A love letter to 5th Ward,” a mixed media portraitbased project that seeks to highlight the individual residents of Fifth Ward Houston as the most critical parts of the community as opposed to highlighting a geographic location. Ellison’s three photographs documenting the everyday Black experience replicate the cover of Life Magazines with its prominent red and white logo displayed in the upper lefthand corner. An assemblage of a fender, tires, clothing, blankets, and small household items are bound together

with burlap, wire, and twine in Davila-Martinez’s “Migration,” an homage to the many who have to travel the country from job to job. Furi presents his iconic “Third Ward Gentrified” digital print (the Monopoly board game of the Third Ward) and “Frenchy’s Day” print. A continuous video loop delivers Paul’s “Spatiality in Transmigration” message in the corner. Alderson’s eight digital prints glorify tight tangles of hair. ART: MUSIC MEETS ART WITH THE GOSS-MICHAEL FOUNDATION Scholarships for 'Artistic Promising' High School Seniors By Kathy Coleman - StyleMagazine.com • Newswire

I

see the music and feel the colors” is a quote I created and live by, coordinated with creativity. Sometimes it happens for the greater good. George Michael was one of the most talented pop musicians and writers of his generation. He was greatly inspired by the rhythm and blues genre of the United States. Kenny Goss, a Dallas native with a passion for art and supporting artists, formed the Goss-Michael Foundation, a nod to both artists. George Michael sang duets with African American singers, such as Aretha Franklin’s #1 I Knew You Were Waiting. The song reached number one in the UK, the first number one hit in the UK for Aretha Franklin. Other collaborations with African American singers were Whitney Houston and Mary J Blige. He also performed with Stevie Wonder at the Motown Returns to the Apollo. George Michael meets an art

dealer in Los Angeles, focusing on Avant-Garde and modern art. Kenny Goss has an eye for beauty in the unusual and colorful figurative expression. A businessperson from Texas would create a way to celebrate music and visual art. The MTV RE: DEFINE Award presented by The Goss-Michael Foundation was established in 2019 to recognize excellence in contemporary art by a postgraduate fine arts student across a range of disciplines. Students from the top 25 MFA programs around the world may submit their work for consideration in their final program year. There are no age, gender, national origin, or artistic medium restrictions. The Award is designed to provide a bridge of financial support and meaningful connections to emerging artists from one of the world’s premier scholastic art programs, to help them transition into their professional careers. Additionally, The Goss-Mi-

chael Foundation offers scholarships to Texas high school seniors who display exceptional artistic abilities and plan to pursue a degree in fine arts. Since 2007, the Foundation has awarded over $90,000 in scholarships to visual arts and music students. The award money is intended to help students with a high degree of artistic promise afford tuition and fees for higher education in the arts. Kenny Goss stated, “Believe it or not, I am not a big music person. George always said, “Darling, you have the same five CDs in your car as when we met. “I also can’t remember the lyrics to song written about me. “. I read the lyrics very carefully to understand the song before listening to it. I am tone deaf. I can’t dance or sing a note. Kenny Goss, an art enthusiast, said Anyway I did love him dearly and he believed in me and supported me completely to achieve all the accomplishments that our foundation became well known for

Kenny Goss and George Michael in the world. I have personally witnessed the creative energy of these fabulous men. More times than not, music meets art.
