COMMENTARY

The People of Our Nation Have Spoken By Jesse Jackson, National Political Writer

T

he people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory. ... We have won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of this nation.” I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify. ... Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end here and now. With these words, the president-elect, Joe Biden, set a new tone and a new mood in Washington. No longer will the bully pulpit of the White House be used to spew lies and insults or to fan division and hatred. The White House will once again call on the “better angels” of Americans and not our “darkest impulses.” With the new tone, Biden offered new priorities and action. He listed the staggering challenges that face the country and its new president: the battle to control the coronavirus, to build prosperity, to secure health care, to “achieve racial justice and root out systemic racism,” to save the climate. The most urgent, of course, is the pandemic, with the virus now peaking once more in states across the country. Gone is the magical thinking that it would soon disappear. Gone is the illusion that the economy could be rebuilt while the pandemic raged. “We cannot repair the economy, restore our vitality, or relish life’s most precious moments -- hugging a grandchild, birthdays, weddings, graduations, all the moments that matter most to us -- until we get this virus under control,” said Biden. Common sense, perhaps, but

4

something that has been missing for too long. Biden announced that he was ready to act, putting together a task force of leading scientists and experts to detail how to go forward. When he is sworn in on January 20, 2021, he will hit the ground running. At the same time, he will push strongly for the passage of a rescue package in the coming lame-duck session of Congress -- with aid for the millions still unemployed, action to avoid a blizzard of evictions and foreclosures, resources to get the disease back under control, aid to states and localities whose budgets have been savaged by the virus and economic recession and more. Without this, as the Trump appointed head of the Federal Reserve has been warning, the economy will be driven into a new downturn.

A New Mood. A New Plan Of Action. campaign was aided by thousands of Once More, Hope Is Reborn. I harbor no illusions. This country is deeply divided. Trump is howling at the moon about the election, but he will spread his poison to millions. Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has shown in the past that he is willing to obstruct everything in order to bring down a Democratic president. Biden’s faith and good will is already being tested. Biden owes his election to the growing citizen movements that demanded change -- from Black Lives Matter, to #MeToo, to the growing climate movement and more. His

community organizers who worked tirelessly to make that change happen. He graciously acknowledged his debt to the African-American voters who saved his candidacy and helped propel his victory. Those movements and organizers now must redouble their efforts. The last great reform period in America came when Dr. Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement joined with a president, Lyndon Johnson, to move this country closer to equal justice for all. That same energy and more will be needed to meet the challenges of this day.

JOE BIDEN – 46th President-Elect Of United States Of America

It is always darkest before the dawn. And now, with this election, the first rays of a new day begin to shine. Now is the time to come together, to build, and to keep hope alive. Houston Health Department Encourages ‘Limiting’ Holiday Gatherings & Festivities

he Houston Health Department encourages everyone to limit in-person holiday gatherings to household members to slow the spread of COVID-19 and prevent another surge this winter. People who attend a holiday gathering with people who don’t live in their home need to consider avoiding non-household members for 14-days before and after the event. “We should all be thankful for our health this holiday season and remember those affected by the virus. I encourage everyone to make a few more sacrifices to keep our families and friends safe from the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “This virus thrives on gatherings and will take advantage of holiday festivities to sicken our loved ones and further spread in our community. Although the holidays will look and feel different this year, making smart choices could save the lives of the people you love.” Video calls family offer the opportunity to interact with friends and

family during holiday events without the risk associated with in-person gatherings. Participating in outdoor gatherings is safer than indoor events but attendees still need to practice social distancing and mask-wearing is needed for interactions with non-household members. “While there isn’t a way to completely eliminate the risk of COVID-19, we can significantly reduce it,” said Dr. David Persse, chief medical officer for the City of Houston. “If you must gather, you and your group must plan ahead and commit to restricting contact with anyone outside your household for 14 days before and after the gathering.”

Shoppers should avoid crowded stores, including during busy Black Friday sales. Instead, consider online shopping, curbside pick-up, and home delivery. People can also plan shopping during less crowded times of day, and should wear a mask, social distance and bring hand sanitizer. People who may have COVID-19, are experiencing symp-

toms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, new loss of taste or smell and diarrhea or were exposed to someone who tested positive must not spend any time with other people or leave their homes unless they need medical care. The health department urges Houstonians to continue to mask up, social distance, wash hands and get tested to prevent the spread of COVID-19. People can visit:

President-Elect Biden’s Transition Team Announces Coronavirus Advisors

P

By Sarah Mucha and Eric Bradner, www.CNN.Com – www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

resident-elect Joe Biden urged Americans to wear a face mask Monday, saying that doing so “is not a political statement” and the best way to save lives before a coronavirus vaccine is widely available. In a speech Monday after meeting with the 12-member coronavirus task force advising him during the transition before his January 20 inauguration, Biden implored Americans to stop the politicization of basic public health precautions, like mask-wearing and social distancing. “The goal of mask-wearing is not to make your life less comfortable or take something away from you. It’s to give something back to all of us: a normal life,” he said. “The goal is to get back to normal as fast as possible, and masks are critical to doing that. It won’t be forever.” Wearing a mask, he said, was “not a political statement, but it is a good way to start pulling the country together.” Biden’s comments come after he defeated President Donald Trump in a race in which mask-wearing became a political topic, with Biden urging Americans to follow public health experts’ guidance and Trump refusing to do so -- holding rallies and White House events largely maskless attendees and downplaying their importance. “It doesn’t matter who you voted for; where you stood before Election Day,” Biden said Monday. “It doesn’t matter your party, your point of view. We could save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months. Not Democrat or Republican lives -- American lives.” He called drug-maker Pfizer’s

Rick Bright – FIRED Trump Administration Pandemic ‘Early Warning’ Whistleblower

Joe Biden – President Elect Monday announcement that early data shows its coronavirus vaccine is more than 90% effective good news. But he said the pandemic is an “immense and growing” threat and that a “dark winter” is still likely, with the numbers of cases and deaths reaching new peaks in recent days. Biden’s transition team earlier Monday morning announced the group of public health experts that will make up his coronavirus advisory board, which includes Rick Bright, a whistleblower from the Trump administration who alleged that his early warnings about the pandemic were ignored and ultimately led to his removal. The inclusion of Bright, who said that he was met with skepticism by Trump administration officials when he raised concerns in the early throes of the pandemic about critical supplies shortages, is a clear signal of the contrasted direction that Biden intends to take his administration when it comes to dealing with the pandemic. Revealing the members of the pandemic task force is the transition’s first major announcement, highlighting

November 12 – November 18, 2020

how important the President-elect finds combating the deadly virus which has taken more than 230,000 lives in the United States. The announcement also comes as the nation nears 10 million cases, with over 9.9 million reported cases as of Sunday evening, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The task force is chaired by former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler and Yale University’s Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith. Among the other thirteen members are Dr. Luciana Borio, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations and Dr. Zeke Emanuel, one of the architects of the Affordable Care Act and an ex-Obama health adviser. Both Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris received a briefing from the transition coronavirus advisory board on Monday. The transition team shared Biden’s Covid plan, which was previously on his campaign website, on its newly revealed website Sunday. Since the outset of the pandemic, Biden pledged repeatedly on the

www.StyleMagazine.com

campaign trail that he would listen to the advice from scientists and public health experts about the pandemic if elected president and slammed Trump’s handling of the virus. In his first remarks as the President-elect, he said he believes the mandate given to the American people includes marshaling “the forces of science and the forces of hope in the great battles of our time.” The first such battle Biden cited was that to control the virus. It’s reminiscent of the focus that Biden, and former President Barack Obama, devoted to the economy when they won the White House 12 years ago in the midst of a deep economic crisis. That is the mindset that Biden is taking towards the coronavirus, aides say, in hopes of trying to prevent the pandemic from worsening before they take office on January 20. The coronavirus upended the presidential election and provided a stark divide in the race, with Biden pledging to take the pandemic seriously, while Trump diminished the importance of the virus and often complained that it was taking up too much focus on the campaign trail -- even after he contracted it himself.

TIRR Hermann Memorial, City of Houston and METRO Partner to Provide FREE Flu Shots By www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

T

IRR Memorial Hermann, the City of Houston Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and the Metropolitan Transit Authority are partnering to provide free flu shots for METROLift riders and current or former patients of TIRR Memorial Hermann. The group is hoping to reach people with disabilities who may benefit from convenient access or need transportation assistance to get a flu shot. The flu drives will take place at three locations throughout Houston from Nov. 17 through Nov. 20. To register for Flu Shots, visit: www.tirr.memorialhermann.org/patient-resources/flu-outreach/ Infectious disease experts say this year, more than any other year, it’s extremely important that everyone receives a flu shot. Flu shots are available for any current or former TIRR Memorial Hermann patient as well as METROLift riders and are available on a first come, first served/pre-registered basis. “Ensuring our current and

former patients and others in the community have access to a flu shot is critically important,” said Rhonda Abbott, Interim Senior Vice President and CEO of TIRR Memorial Hermann. “COVID-19 will likely be with us throughout the duration of this flu season and reducing the chances of a flu outbreak can help our health system not become overwhelmed as we continue to deal with the pandemic. This effort is one way TIRR Memorial Hermann continues the legacy of advocacy work that forms the foundation of our rehab network.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone over the age of 6 months receive a flu shot every year. People over age 65, pregnant women, people with cancer, diabetes or others with compromised immune systems are at the highest risk of contracting the flu. “METRO is proud to support this important initiative. As we continue to fight the spread of COVID-19,

it is critical that all regional partners work together to help mitigate any other potential health crisis. Ensuring everyone, especially those with disabilities, can travel safely to receive a free flu shot is one way we further protect our most vulnerable neighbors,” saidMETRO President and CEO Tom Lambert. “We are committed to advancing the efforts of our city partners that seek to prioritize the health and safety of all Houstonians with disabilities,” said Gabe Cazares Director of the City of Houston Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. “As we make our way through this pandemic, we stand by all programs that lessen the strain on our medical system while providing much-needed support for our community.” Flu season usually runs from October to May. Keep in mind, it takes about two weeks for the flu shot to take effect, so the time is now to get your annual shot. “The flu – just like COVID-19

Get Your FREE Flu Shots! – hits older people and those with underlying health conditions especially hard,” said Dr. David Persse, chief medical officer for the City of Houston. “Along with the flu, we fully expect the virus that causes COVID-19 to keep spreading this fall and winter and we need everyone to do their part to protect themselves and their loves ones by getting a flu shot.” To Register for a FREE shot, visit: www.TIRR.MemorialHermann. org/patient-resources/flu-outreach/ or Call 832-393-4220.

PVAMU Receives A $10 Million Gift To Fund New “Panther Success Grants” Program

P

By www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

rairie View A&M University announced the receipt of a $10 million gift to assist students in their pursuit of successful college completion. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, wanted to invest in PVAMU by easing many students’ financial burdens. The pandemic-related trauma and a virtual college experience are impacting student performance, which is being exacerbated by the stress of staying healthy while also applying to graduate school or job searching for their career after graduation. “I am pleased to announce that the generosity of an anonymous donor will allow the university to establish an initiative to assist juniors and seniors impacted by the COVID-19 crisis to remain enrolled and graduate on a timely basis,” said PVAMU President Ruth J. Simmons. “Called Panther Success Grants, these unrestricted funds will be the critical difference in enabling these students to continue and complete their studies.” Job loss due to COVID-19 has, in many instances, impeded working

Diabetes Drug Recalled Expanded Due to Cancer Causing Containment By Dr. Phillip Gould – www.BlackDoctor.org / www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

A

recall of diabetes drugs has expanded to four lots of the widely used type 2 diabetes medication, metformin. They are being recalled due to possible contamination with a potentially cancer-causing compound. Indian pharmaceutical company Marksans Pharma Limited is recalling metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets because their levels of NDMA, a “probable human carcinogen,” were higher than the acceptable daily intake limit of 96 nanograms per day, according to a recall published this week by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Nostrum Laboratories Inc., based in Kansas City, Missouri, announced Monday that it is volun-

tarily recalling its metformin HCl extended-release tablets, according to a recall posted by the US Drug & Food Administration. Testing revealed levels of nitrosamine, or NDMA, above acceptable limits in the recalled tablets. Metformin tablets are used to treat type 2 diabetes and are designed to lower glucose levels. This covers 100-tablet bottles of 750 mg Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets, lot Nos. MET200101 and MET200301; and 500 mg Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets, lot Nos. MET100201 and MET100401. All recalled bottles have an expiration date of 05/2022. Consumers should keep taking their met-

formin until their doctor or another medical professional comes up with another course of treatment. “Nostrum Laboratories Inc. is notifying its distributors by letter and is arranging for return of all recalled products. Pharmacies that have Metformin HCl Extended-Release Tablets, USP 750 mg, which is being recalled, should return to the place of purchase. Consumers should consult a health care professional to obtain a replacement or a different treatment option,” the announcement reads. “It could be dangerous for patients with type 2 diabetes to stop taking their Metformin without first talking to their health care professional. Consumers should contact their physician or health care provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking this drug product.” The FDA is still investigating where NDMA comes from and how it ends up in metformin products. Most levels found in medications are generally low and fall within the FDA’s accepted daily intake, but recently recalled medications exceed that. Marksans Pharma Limited, India, however, did not reveal how much NDMA its recalled products contained.

he answer in the form of a question: Who was a genuinely decent man, a generous philanthropist, an iconic television personality and -- as fellow public savant Neil deGrasse Tysondubbed him -- the «Patron Saint of Geeks?» The clue, which anyone who watched him during his two decades as the most beloved game show host of our generation, is obvious: It’s Alex Trebek, whose passing this weekend tore a ragged hole in our pop culture continuum. His loss wasn’t a surprise. From the moment Trebek announced that he’d been diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer, the prognosis was grim. But Trebek, who was deeply proud of his record of having missed only one installment of “Jeopardy!” in his 8200-plus episode career -- and that one only because, as an April Fool’s prank, he switched gigs for a day with Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak -- soldiered on to the very end; he was in the throes of his 37th season of the show when he passed away on Sunday in his Los Angeles home. He continued despite, as he freely admitted, suffering pain that would send him to his dressing room to break down in tears, and experiencing paralyzing bouts of severe depression that led him to consider just letting go. These admissions were a part of the regular ongoing updates he gave on his condition. Not because he wanted to be seen as a martyr, but because he knew the public was curious, and he felt they were owed the truth. This measured transparency about his symptoms was a direct extension of his unique on-air persona. Game show hosts tend to be stereotyped as

www.StyleMagazine.com

sunny and anodyne, slick, toothy and insincere cheerleaders for their games and their contestants. Trebek was, by contrast, what one might call a “real one.” He was candid in his reactions, always ready to cock an eyebrow at a bad play and to bluntly call out obvious errors in the tones of a disappointed dad. And that, perhaps, might be the greatest gift Trebek left for us, a nation where “Jeopardy!” is frequently a welcome respite from actual jeopardy. A template for how we should behave now, in the wake of the most vitriolic electoral contest in recent memory, in an era that has been the most politically polarized since the 1960s -- or, some might even argue, since the 1860s. “Alex Trebek provided a sense of consistency we’ve all been missing in a world of accelerating change and conflict,” said Arthur Chu, whose 11-episode victory run in 2014 (and whose playing style drew criticism from some observers) made him the third biggest champion in «Jeopardy!» history. «He was firm but fair, cordial but stern, encouraging but impartial.» In short, Trebek found a way to reject foolishness without making people feel like fools. So if the answer in the form of the question is “What would Alex Trebek do?,” here’s the clue for all of us, especially those who are mourning him: “Shut up and work.”

COMCAST Military Employee – Leriqua Jackson on The Front Lines Of The COVID-19 Fight

A

By www.StyleMagazine.com – Newswire

s our country recognizes Veterans Day and continues to celebrate National Veterans and Military Families Month this November, Comcast NBCUniversal is recognizing those who swore an oath to defend our nation. So far, nearly 50,000 National Guard and reserve service members have been mobilized to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them are more than two dozen Comcast NBCUniversal employees who have been called up to complete thousands of missions such as manning testing and screening centers, delivering food and essential equipment to those in need, and building critical infrastructure. “Service runs in my family,” said Leriqua Jackson, an Xfinity retail sales associate and specialist in the Texas Army National Guard. Jackson grew up watching her father proudly serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. This motivated her and her siblings to join the military too. “I always did community service during my free time at school,” Jackson said. “I was looking for more, so being able to dig in my heels and uplift the people of Texas during this time is an honor.” Jackson is part of a headquarters unit overseeing administrative tasks, such as coordinating lodging,

pay, and logistics, for units working in the field. As many Americans drew back to the security of our homes, the U.S. military instead quickly moved out to the front lines to work side by side with other essential workers to help combat the spread of the virus. Whether it’s for disaster relief, helping to provide security and safety to communities impacted by protests and social unrest, or other events that prompt calls for National Guard assistance, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Comcast provides support and care to help make the transition from civilian to service member overnight. In 2016, the company established a Military Concierge Service team that acts as a central resource for employees and their supervisors to help balance working for Comcast NBCUniversal while serving in the National Guard. Staffed by human resource professionals, the team provides administrative support and knowledge about the company’s Military Policies and Benefits, including offering paid leave for military duty, a military pay supplement, and continued health benefits for employees and their families. “The system has proven to work in situations like this,” said Andrew Furlong, a member of the Military

LERIQUA JACKSON Concierge Service team. “It alleviates a lot of stress having one place to go to for employees who are transitioning back and forth from military service.” Military service members also help bring a sense of comfort to communities as they navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. This part of the military’s mission fits perfectly for Deeva Williams. As an Xfinity retail sales representative and specialist in the Washington Army National Guard, Deeva and her unit are supporting mobile food distribution sites throughout the Tacoma, Washington area. “It feels humbling and amazing to be able to see the smiles and the sigh of relief on people’s faces when you take away some stress during a time like this,” Williams said. Williams credits the U.S. Army for strengthening her work discipline after joining three years ago to create a better life for her and her younger

brother. Along with her self-described “bubbly” personality, Williams said she values being able to work directly with customers and her Xfinity retail colleagues. “My store has remained open during all of this and my teammates are working hard to support customers,” Williams said. “We constantly text each other while we’re both serving our community in different ways.” Employees like Leriqua and Deeva embody our company’s values in action and how our employees continue to step up and do more, especially in times of trouble. Comcast NBCUniversal is proud of the military community helping to fight against COVID-19. As a military-ready company, we are committed to ensuring that our military teammates have the resources and support they need to answer the call to service.

KAMALA DEVI HARRIS Visualizing A Future Never Once Imagined Kamala Harris Has Now Achieved The Ultimate Firsts

arriers are meant to block someone or something from occurring. Just as they are meant to deter, barriers also can serve as motivation for someone to do what has never be done before. For years women have encounter roadblocks in the climb up the political ladder. Despite what was in their way they kept pressing forward, pushing the mark, never losing their focus. Never underestimate a woman who has ever been doubted. She will just smile in your face and say ‘Watch me work.’ We watched Shirley Chisholm in 1953 when she entered the political world as part of Judge Lewis Flagg Jr.’s campaign. Chisholm famously said of women in politics, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” She took her chair to the table when she dared to chip at the proverbial glass ceiling when she became the first African American woman to be elected to the U.S. Congress, candidate for a major party’s nomination for the President of the United States of America and ran for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Next, we watched Charlotta A. Bass take a seat as the first African American woman to be chosen by a political party as a vice president candidate in 1952. Bass was on the Progressive Party ticket with Vincent Hallinan. Over the years we have watched African American women continue to bring their chair to the table chipping at ceiling with victories like Lelia Foley-Davis, the first African American mayor in the nation; Carol Moseley Braun, the first African American woman elected to the U.S. Senate and the first African American woman to win a major party’s Senate nomination; Condoleezza Rice, the first African American to hold the post of National Security Advisor and first African American woman U.S. Secretary of

Feelin’ great because the light’s on me Celebratin’ the things that everyone told me Would never happen But God has put his hands on me And ain’t a man alive could ever take it from me As the lyrics of Mary J. Blige’s Work That blared from the speakers in a packed parking lot of Biden/Harris supporters in Delaware, Harris strutted on the national stage like she has been there before to take her rightful place in history. She knew that this moment was so much bigger than she. She knew it was a moment not just for Black women and girls but all women from the past who were ever told that they couldn’t be a part of the political process to the young girls with dreams and wide eyes who now know that life has no limits. Harris stands for all of them. “…while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possi

It certainly was not the dream her mother had imagined for her daughter. Shyamala Gopalan Harris came to this country at the young age of 19 from India in 1958 to study in a master’s degree program in nutrition and endocrinology at the University of California, Berkeley. She would later receive her Ph.D. in the

same field of study. Harris paid honor to her mother during her victory speech as she remembered all those whose shoulders on which she stands. “I am thinking about her (her mother) and about the generations of women, Black women, Asian, white, Latina, Native American women, who throughout our nation’s history, have paved the way for this moment tonight, women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality and liberty and justice for all. Including the Black women who are often, too often overlooked but so often proved they are the backbone of our democracy.”

No one could have imagined that the little girl born, October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California, educated in Canada, and taken root back on U.S. soil would grow up to reach such heights. Following her life story, Harris seemed to be predestined to work for the people in politics. Her political mind was molded by the influence of her grandfather, P. V. Gopalan, who had progressive views on democracy and women’s rights. As a kindergartener, she helped to desegregate a Berkeley school on the richer side of town. She experienced racism on visits to her father’s home when the neighbor kids wouldn’t play with her and her sister because of their skin color. Those would help her to

Her friend then was invited to live with them throughout her high school senior year. Harris has said this experience helped develop a passion in her to help protect women and children. Getting the necessary education to work for the people, Harris earned degrees from Howard University, University of California, and Hastings College of the Law. Upon graduation, her first job after joining the California Bar was the deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California. That was the first step in her career that would see her rise up as the 27th District Attorney of San Francisco (the first person of color elected), 32nd Attorney General of California (first woman, first African American, and first South Asian American elected), and the U.S. Senator from California, and to her historic position as Vice President-Elect. Now HU has awarded more than 120,000 degrees to graduates in an array of disciplines. Harris once tweeted, “When you attend an HBCU, there’s nothing you can’t do,” including be the Vice President of the United States of America. HBCUs are certain to reap under the Biden administration with Harris’ ties since so many are underfunded in comparison to predominantly White institutions. A campaign pledge under Biden’s plan for education beyond high school includes investing over $70 billion to assist HBCUs and other institutions. Immediately after Biden named her as his running mate donations in the amount of $19.08, the founding year of AKA, rolled into the campaign. Soon behind those came the galvanization of the entire D9 with donations of $19.06, $19.13, $19.11, $19.14, $19.20, $19.22, and $1963, all representative of the founding years of the members of the D9. HBCU grads also got into the movement making donations in the amount of the founding years of their universities. Support for Harris also came when these same organizations made pushes all across the country to get people registered to vote and made sure that they showed up to vote early. HBCU graduate and Spelman alum Stacey Abrams, with the help of the New Georgia Project, registered 800,000 new Georgia voters to fight voter suppression. Harris’ election does not just open doors in so many places. It completely removes the doors from their foundation. Together, Biden and Harris can heal the soul of our nation removing barrier’s so color of any kind is not seen to allow them to truly lead a country for all Americans.

It is said that it likely takes its name from its shape on early maps of the region, which resembled an elk’s heart. The cleanliness of the lake made it a popular source for drinking and spa water and an appealing place for bathing, fishing and boating. Due to the Mid-west railway extension in 1872, Elkhart Lake was added as a designated stopped which caused an explosion of visitors to the area. By the late 1870s, the area had become one of Wisconsin’s most popular resort destinations for weekend excursions and summer guests. And the summer resort community still till this day remains a sought-out destination. In 1950, a group of local businessmen worked

with the Sports Car Club of America to establish the Elkhart Lake Road Race. The next three years saw the annual event draw attention to Elkhart Lake and helped to spark a revival of the community’s resort industry. Road racing on the public streets of Elkhart Lake ended after the third official race in 1952, though car racing continued with the development of Road America in 1955. Road America is one of the anchors in Elkhart Lake attracting over 800,000 people to the village yearly. At Road America, you will find one of the country’s longest racing circuit, a 4-mile, 14-turn track. Sprawling over 640 acres, Road America host year-round activities including go-karting, geocaching, and motorcycle driving school. Whether you prefer to watch the race or participate in it, there is something for everyone at Road America. If loud cars and skid marks are not your

Great Weekend Getaway thing, while you are in Elkhart Lake, enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the 20,000 square foot Aspira Spa at the Osthoff Resort. The word aspira means, “infused with spirit” and it is definitely fitting for a spa that is located on the banks of a lake that was considered sacred by the Native Americans who once live there. The spa is centered on the elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water; and with services like the Aromatic Relaxation and Sacred Water Massages, you will surely encounter an outer body experience that will leave you feeling better than ever. After your pampered treatment, move to your happy place on the front law of the Osthoff Resort and enjoy a yoga session over looking the lake followed by a delicious lunch at the newly renovated Concourse Restaurant and Lounge. In all fairness, golfing may not be for everyone, but we urge you to take a day to go out and play at Elkhart Lake’s Quit Qui Oc Golf Club. The perfect day is only 18 (or 9) holes away. Whether you are a casual player, scratch player, or just looking for a special outing Quit Qui Oc is sure to be a good time. With over 250 acres and located in the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest, Quit Qui Oc Golf Club provides numerous amenities for golfers, including a learning and practice facility and a pro shop along with a full-service restaurant and bar. Speaking of food, considering Elkhart Lake is such a small village its amazing how many different varieties of foods you can enjoy. Savor in the flavors at Lake Street Cafe, a town favorite with eclectic vibes and serving up a California bistro-style fare. With the largest wine list in the state, Lake Street Cafe offers a family friendly atmosphere on side and a fine dining room on the other. During quarantine, owner Lynn Shovan decided to spruce up the outdoor eating garden, which has been a favorite amongst visitors. Located nearby you will find a local favorite, the Paddock Club
