After more than three decades of trailblazing service, Judge Clarease
Rankin Yates has reached a new chapter in her illustrious career—her retirement. A pioneer in every sense of the word, Judge Yates was appointed to the U.S. Immigration Court in 1990, becoming the first African-American woman in the United States to hold such a position. Her career, spanning decades, has been marked by groundbreaking legal work, community leadership, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Judge Yates’ early academic achievements set the stage for her impactful career. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from Temple University, where she developed a passion for law and public service. Before her appointment as an immigration judge, she held numerous prestigious roles, including serving as an attorney with the United States International Trade Commission and as an administrative law judge for the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs
Upon relocating to Houston , Judge Yates not only made her mark in the courtroom but also in the classroom. As an adjunct professor of law at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, she shared her wealth of knowledge with aspiring lawyers for over eight years. She was also an active member of Class XIV of Leadership Houston, further solidifying her role as a community leader.
Judge Yates’ contributions extended well beyond the bench. In 2003, she became a certified fashion image consultant, and in 2005, she published her book Indestructible Beginnings, a guide to common courtesy for teenagers. She has used her book to conduct etiquette classes for teens, helping shape the next generation into confident, respectful individuals. Her expertise as an etiquette coach was further recognized

Further cementing her influence in this cause, Pediatric Hematologist Dr. Titilope Fasipe and Michael Aldridge have
provided crucial details on the Men of Substance Black Tie Gala, another event that raises significant funds to combat sickle cell. Throughout her career, Judge Yates has been committed to empowering her community. She has served on numerous boards, including the Houston Holocaust Museum, the Houston Symphony, and the Houston Chapter of the NAACP. POLITICS: HARRIS'S APPEAL TO GEN-Z AND MILLENNIALS SERVES AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN GENERATIONS
By David W. Marshall for www.StyleMagazine.com
It is refreshing to see a leader like Vice President Kamala Harris who understands the wide generational gap we have in our nation. There will always be situations where older and younger people maintain different perspectives on life and the nation’s future based on their experiences, opinions, habits, and behavior.
Harris’s candidacy for president serves as a bridge between generations and has effectively found ways to close the gap in a relatively short time. Almost half of Gen Z (ages 16–27) respondents in a UCLA study said they were not motivated to vote at all in the 2024 presidential election prior to Kamala Harris’ nomination. In addition, 29 percent of Gen Z respondents who said they were not motivated to vote in the upcoming election before the change in the Democratic nominee say they are now motivated to vote for Harris.
The vice president’s campaign has a notable social media presence. It is through this presence that she has successfully inspired undecided voters. “Young adults are increasingly getting news from TikTok, reporting social media as the most authentic form of media,” said Yalda Uhls, founder and CEO of the UCLA Center for Scholars & Storytellers. “Our data shows that young people are very engaged with what’s happening in the political sphere around them and keeping up with the news seems to be influencing their desire to vote for Kamala Harris.”
For young people interested in voting for Harris, her identity as a woman of color was not a large motivating factor. Of Gen Z respondents, 82 percent cited reasons other than Harris’s racial or gender identity when explaining their support for her. Some respondents agreed with her stance on the issues; they see her as an exciting candidate that gives hope, and some liked what they learned about her on social media. “Contrary to Republican messaging about Kamala Harris being a DEI hire, young people seem more excited about her candidacy because of the tone and substance of her campaign rather than because of her race, ethnicity or gender,” said Alisha Hines, the center’s
director of research from its 2023 Teens and Screens Report, which showed that young people are overwhelming interested in stories of hope—a defining mood of the Harris campaign.”
As a graduate of Howard University, she understands the cultural significance behind the HBCU homecoming. Homecoming is a special time of the year for students and alums on HBCU campuses.
If Harris becomes president of the United States, there will be a sense of special pride in having someone from Howard University hold the highest office in the nation. It is the type of pride shared with all HBCU students and alums, not just those from Howard. As a Norfolk State University graduate, I will also share in the proud moment of her election, as well as the journey of her historic campaign.
The Harris-Walz campaign will kick off an HBCU Homecoming Tour across the battleground states of North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania to reach Black Gen Z voters. The tour will give special recognition to HBCUs.
It starts at Winston-Salem State University during the weekend of Sept. 28.
It continues on Oct. 12 with stops at Lincoln University and Virginia State University. On Oct. 19, the campaign will visit Howard University, North Carolina A&T, and Clark Atlanta University. Then, on Oct. 26, they will visit Morehouse and Spelman College. One of the keys to winning the election is gaining the support of Gen Zers and millennials.
“HBCUs are responsible for educating generations of leaders across all industries and remain some of the most distinguished institutions of higher learning in the United States—that is why as a proud Howard University graduate, Vice President Harris helped lead the Biden-Harris administration in investing $17 billion into HBCUs across the country,” said Harris–Walz 2024 Senior Advisor Trey Baker… . “Engaging young Black voters and the broader HBCU alumni network across battleground states is a testament to the commitment of the Team Harris-Walz to truly meeting voters where they are at, to underscore the stakes of this election.”

TPOLITICS: KAMALA HARRIS TAKES ON TRUMP'S FEAR-MONGERING: A BOLD PLAN FOR REAL BORDER SOLUTIONS
he border—an ever-present topic in American politics, subject to rhetorical spins, half-truths, and straight-up inaccuracies. The latest Democratic attempt to tackle this is spearheaded by Vice President Kamala Harris, who is embracing border security as a pillar of her presidential campaign. Harris made her first official visit to the southern border as a nominee in Arizona, seizing the opportunity to call out former President Donald Trump’s obstructionist approach to bipartisan immigration reform. With the 2024 election looming, the stakes have never been higher for either side to present viable, humane solutions.
What’s Really Happening at the Border?
Contrary to the oft-repeated Republican mantra of an "open border," the situation at the southern border is far more nuanced. Migration has slowed down significantly in recent months, with illegal crossings plummeting by nearly 80% since the height of the crisis in December. It's a stark contrast to the alarming rhetoric used by Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who seem bent on painting an apocalyptic picture. This year alone, Texas has spent $11 billion on Operation Lone Star, yet the results do not reflect the scale of fear they perpetuate.
By Francis Page Jr., Editor for www.StyleMagazine.com
Democratic leadership, particularly Harris, is using a pragmatic approach, focusing on long-term solutions rather than short-term soundbites. The Vice President has underscored the importance of strong border security while criticizing Trump for blocking a bipartisan border bill that had widespread support, including an endorsement from the Border Patrol union. As Harris pointed out in her speech, "Trump prefers to run on problems rather than fixing them."
The Republican Spin: Fear and Division
Trump’s latest narrative is filled with distortions aimed at firing up his base. At a recent rally in Michigan, he blamed Harris for violent crimes allegedly committed by undocumented immigrants, falsely accusing the Democrats of encouraging illegal voting. It's an absurd claim—non-citizens cannot vote in U.S. elections, but Trump seems to thrive on bending the facts. This is just another chapter in a long history of scaremongering designed to sidestep the real issues while shifting blame.
But let's be clear: Trump’s stance on immigration is about theater, not solutions. When given the chance to support one
of the most comprehensive border security bills in recent history, he tanked it. This is a president who loves the optics of chaos and crisis at the border because it fuels his "law and order" narrative, even when the data contradicts his story.
A Democratic Plan for Border Reform
Kamala Harris’s proposals offer a realistic path forward. During her Arizona rally, she outlined plans to resurrect the bipartisan bill Trump buried. This would not only strengthen border enforcement but also provide humane solutions for migrants, including a much-needed pathway to citizenship for Dreamers—those who were brought to the U.S. as children but have lived in legal limbo for decades.
Harris has also proposed measures to limit asylum requests while expanding legal avenues for entry, including work visas and family reunification. Such policies acknowledge the economic contributions migrants make to the U.S., while also addressing the need for a more controlled, lawful entry process.

In a stunning display of cutting-edge technology and teamwork, SpaceX has launched a high-stakes rescue mission, further solidifying its leadership in space travel. This weekend, SpaceX's Dragon capsule soared into orbit, tasked with bringing home two NASA astronauts stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The mission, which carries a hefty price tag estimated at $90 million, is expected to conclude with their safe return to Earth early next year.
Although Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams won’t touch down until February 2025, the meticulous rescue operation has already captivated space enthusiasts and casual observers alike.
The Unexpected Journey: From One Week to Eight Months
What was supposed to be a routine mission for Wilmore and Williams aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft quickly transformed into a prolonged stay in space after technical failures—including thruster troubles and helium leaks—forced an empty Starliner to return to Earth. Left in orbit without their original ride home, the astronauts were put on an extended mission that will now total more than eight months.

With a solid history of handling emergency situations—including surviving a failed Russian rocket launch in 2018—Hague’s leadership is essential for this unique mission.
SpaceX and NASA: Unwavering Partnership in the Face of Challenges
The mission faced its share of complications. With only half the usual crew aboard the Dragon capsule and two astronauts trained on Boeing’s Starliner awaiting rescue, the operation involves significant logistical hurdles. But Hague’s confidence in his team was unwavering: “We know each other, we’re professionals, and we step up when asked.”

As the SpaceX Dragon capsule ascended into orbit, Wilmore and Williams cheered the successful liftoff from the ISS via a live feed. The newly promoted station commander, Williams, exclaimed, “Go Dragon!” in a heartfelt tribute to the spacecraft that will eventually return her and Wilmore to Earth.

This mission further underscores SpaceX's dominance in NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Having successfully launched 10 crewed missions since 2020, SpaceX has outpaced Boeing, which has struggled with a series of setbacks in its attempt to send astronauts into space.
The 2024 Global Citizen Festival brought together a star-studded lineup and thousands of advocates for change, delivering more than just entertainment. This annual festival, held on the Great Lawn of Central Park, once again combined the power of music with activism, highlighting urgent global challenges like poverty, inequality, and climate change.
Headliners Post Malone and Doja Cat set the stage ablaze, captivating fans with unforgettable performances, while sending a powerful message about the need for collective action. Global Citizen Festival has always done more than entertain—it empowers. With music as the catalyst, the festival invites attendees and viewers around the world to take concrete actions to "defeat poverty, defend the planet, and demand equity." And this year's festival delivered in spades.

change," said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans, as he addressed the vibrant, diverse crowd that included the trendsetters of tomorrow. The importance of this younger generation could not have been more evident in the festival’s all-star lineup, which targeted fans globally and from all walks of life.
From Post Malone’s recent collaboration with Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Blake Shelton, to Doja Cat's promotion of her latest album Scarlet on tour, the headliners embody the power of cross-genre influence, much like the broad coalition of Global Citizens taking-action for change. "We all have a part to play," Doja Cat passionately shared in her address to the crowd, reminding everyone that collective efforts are the foundation for lasting
Tackling Global Challenges, One Song at a Time
The night wasn't just about entertainment—it was about impact. Global Citizen's mission to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030 took center stage. As Evans noted, 10% of the world’s population still lives in extreme poverty, and this festival serves as a rallying cry for more action from governments, corporations, and citizens alike.
Dr. Jane Goodall, beloved primatologist and activist, made a surprise appearance, joined by Chris Martin of Coldplay, further elevating the festival’s focus on climate change and sustainability. The pair spoke about the need to protect wildlife, the environment, and underserved
communities most affected by global crises.
Global Citizens Unite for a Brighter Tomorrow
The festival's call to action was clear: every individual can make a difference, whether by advocating for policies, supporting grassroots initiatives, or simply educating themselves on global issues. By requiring festivalgoers to take actions— like signing petitions or contacting political representatives—to earn their tickets, Global Citizen ensured the evening was not only about enjoying the music but about participating in change.
