s America’s 2024 election approaches, the road to 270 electoral votes lays out two starkly different visions for the nation’s future. Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party offer a steady hand, steering the country toward stability, economic prosperity, and social justice. On the other hand, Donald Trump’s return promises to plunge the country back into chaos, marked by divisiveness, disregard for democracy, and economic unpredictability. For voters in Houston, this election isn’t just about party lines; it’s about choosing a path that protects and uplifts communities.

Under the Biden-Harris administration, the U.S. economy has managed a rare “soft landing.” Amid global economic

challenges, GDP growth remains steady at 2.8%, inflation is easing toward the Federal Reserve’s target, and jobs are being created in droves. The Biden-Harris team has worked tirelessly to bring down gas prices, and battleground states are feeling the relief—Nevada, Arizona, and Pennsylvania have seen significant drops at the pump, with Texas also benefiting from lower fuel costs. Compare this to Trump’s record: while he boasts of historically low gas prices during his term, they were artificially depressed during the pandemic—a time when no one was driving, and demand had collapsed.

Once the world reopened, prices surged, exposing the volatility of Trump’s approach.

As Kamala Harris campaigns

across the nation, her focus is on building an inclusive, fair economy that protects everyday Americans. Her policies reflect the Democratic commitment to working families, small businesses, and long-term economic growth, ensuring that prosperity is not just for the wealthy but for all. Meanwhile, Trump faces mounting criticism from some of his closest former advisors.

Figures like John Kelly and General Mark Milley have gone on record to warn against Trump’s return, describing him as unfit for office, reckless, and lacking the basic principles of democratic leadership. Even Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, has voiced concerns, accusing him of placing himself above the Constitution. Houston voters, as part of this pivotal journey toward the 270 electoral votes needed for victory, have the power to decide the course of America’s future. A vote for Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party is a vote for stability, integrity, and progress. It’s a choice to continue a path where inflation is cooling, wages are rising, and the promise of a secure economy is not just a dream but a reality.

Here at Houston Style Magazine, we urge our readers to reflect on the stakes of this election. With Harris, we see a dedicated leader committed to building a better America—one where democracy, fairness, and opportunity flourish. This road to 270 is a journey toward a future that serves all Americans, and it’s up to Houston to help lead the way. Choose stability. Choose unity. Choose progress.

Democratic Candidate for President – Kamala Harris, Vice President of United States of America

COMMENTARY SHILOH’S PLEA FOR JUSTICE: THE CLOCK IS TICKING FOR THE HISTORIC BLACK COMMUNITY

The Shiloh community in Elba, Alabama, is in crisis—a crisis our federal tax dollars helped create. When the Alabama Department of Transportation expanded a highway through this historic Black neighborhood in 2018, they triggered a catastrophic flooding issue Now, every rainfall brings waves of destruction, washing away homes and histories. Shiloh’s story is a devastating example of environmental racism, and as the clock ticks, justice feels ever more elusive.

Pastor Timothy Williams, a Shiloh resident and community leader, is among the many who have suffered immense losses.

“My house has already sunk two feet into the mud,” he told us. For Pastor Williams and others in Shiloh, these homes represent more than brick and mortar—they are legacies, lifetimes of hard work and generational dreams slipping away, drowned in stormwater runoff and bureaucratic indifference. This ongoing disaster has shredded the community’s well-being. Generational wealth has been decimated, and the emotional toll is immeasurable. Shiloh’s children grow up watching their world crumble, their educational futures clouded by trauma.

Highway – Shiloh, Alabama Floods – Shiloh, Alabama

Adult residents are increasingly turning to coping mechanisms unheard of in this once-close-knit community. It’s not just the physical landscape that has shifted; the fabric of Shiloh is being torn apart.

Adding insult to injury, Shiloh residents like Pastor Williams have faced intimidation for speaking up. In a Jim

Crow-shadowed state, the challenges extend beyond physical damage. Pastor Williams even experienced a boycott of his restaurant by local patrons, signaling the racial tension simmering beneath the surface.

National figures have taken notice.

Dr. Robert Bullard, the “Father of Environmental Justice,” has teamed up with the

Shiloh community to demand accountability. Even Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited Shiloh, but the solution offered—a Voluntary Resolution Agreement (VRA)—has been met with dismay. The VRA proposes only infrastructure upgrades to prevent future flooding, failing to address the wreckage of lives already shattered. Shiloh residents need a remedy, not a band-aid.

As we face an uncertain future with potential shifts in federal oversight, the urgency to secure meaningful justice for Shiloh grows. Army veteran Willie Horstead Jr. encapsulated the community’s sentiment perfectly: “I just want to be made whole.”

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “justice too long delayed is justice denied.” For Shiloh, the time is now.

ELOCAL: HARRIS ROCKS HARRIS COUNTY: ELECTRIFYING CROWDS AND SETTING VOTING RECORDS

arly President Kamala Harris and Texas Congressman Colin Allred set the Energy Stadium ablaze with excitement on Friday, October 25, attracting a diverse crowd of over 30,000 passionate Texans. From Beyonce's iconic vocals to Willie Nelson's timeless charm, the event had fans—many sporting "I Voted" stickers— dancing in celebration of the historic turnout for early voting in Texas.

“Houston and Harris County, Texas, we are here to campaign for freedom!” declared Harris to a roaring audience who had eagerly waited, even enduring Texas heat, to catch a glimpse of the Vice President. Decked out in t-shirts bearing Harris’s face superimposed on Texas, the crowd’s enthusiasm was unmistakable as they cheered for the Vice President and Texas’s future. Houston’s Diverse Spirit on Full Display

The stadium was a tapestry of Texas's diversity—young, old, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Democrat, and Republican—all united under one banner: the drive for freedom and progress. The rally marked Harris’s largest turnout, even surpassing the 23,000 in Atlanta the night before, as Houston proudly showcased its spirit of unity.

With a lineup that included Houston’s own Reps. Al Green and Sylvia Garcia,

State Representatives like Ron Reynolds and Jolanda Jones, and County Commissioners Rodney Ellis and Adrian Garcia, the atmosphere was electric. Everyone, from city council members to the average Houstonian, was there, embodying the resilience and hope that defines Harris County.

The Stakes Couldn’t Be Higher

“If Trump wins again, no one in Texas or across America is safe from the healthcare crisis he threatens to unleash on women,” Harris passionately reminded the crowd. Allred echoed her sentiments: “In Texas, we don’t back down from a fight for our families and freedom.” Their words resonated, as polls continue to show razor-thin

for in-person voters, surpassing the previous 2020 record by 58,161 votes. We’ve also reached a milestone in mail-in ballots, with over 7,000 more than ever in Harris County history,” reported Hudspeth.

A Call to Action

As the night wore on, Harris continued shaking hands, snapping photos, and urging Texans to "just go vote." With determination, she rallied the crowd, reminding them of the

margins, calling on Texans—especially in Houston and Harris County—to make their voices heard before early voting ends on Friday, November 1. Houston Sets Record-Breaking Early Voting Numbers

Harris County is already making history. Harris County Clerk Teneisha Hudspeth confirmed that early voting during the first week broke 2020’s record by a staggering 58,161 votes. Nearly 30% of Harris County's 2.7 million registered voters have cast their ballots, either in person or by mail—a powerful sign of civic engagement.

“This is a record in Harris County

LOCAL: THE TRUTH BEHIND HARRIS COUNTY'S ELECTION DRAMA: NO FRAUD, JUST POLITICS

In a county as vibrant and diverse as Harris, elections are bound to attract attention, speculation, and yes—even a bit of drama. After nearly two years of political wrangling, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg has put an end to the 2022 election-rigging investigation, confirming what Democrats and voting rights advocates have been saying all along: there was no fraud. This ruling closes the curtain on a high-stakes investigation that sparked lawsuits, legislative battles, and more than a few heated tweets.

Two Years, No Fraud, and a Whole Lot of Drama

Back in 2022, some local Republicans claimed that ballot shortages in certain polling places were targeted at conservative voters, triggering accusations of intentional voter suppression. These claims led DA Ogg to launch a 21-month-long investigation, even enlisting the Texas Rangers to dig for any trace of election tampering. Yet, despite a mountain of paperwork, hours of interviews, and months of speculation, the verdict is clear: no fraud, no villains, just logistical hiccups in a high-turnout election.

The Price Tag on Political Games

The investigation wasn't without its costs—financially or politically. Harris County spent over $700,000 in legal fees, funded by taxpayers, defending election workers who were just doing their jobs.

Republicans capitalized on the ongoing investigation, introducing legislation to dismantle Harris County's elections administration office. Now, the county clerk and tax-assessor collector shoulder these responsibilities—a shift many see as a step backward for efficient, non-partisan election management.

Waiting for Answers: Ogg’s Silence and Its Fallout

DA Ogg, a Democrat, faced scrutiny not only from Republicans but also from her own party for taking so long to close the case. Voting rights advocates argue that her silence left a vacuum, allowing misinformation and doubt to creep into the public's perception of Harris County's elections. “When it comes to elections, we want transparency and timeliness,” noted Emily Eby French from Common Cause Texas. “Leaving things hanging only feeds the fire of doubt and misinformation.”

What’s Really at Stake: Democracy or Political Power?

The Harris County investigation sheds light on a growing national issue: the weaponization of election security as a partisan tool. Although the investigation found zero evidence of tampering, Republicans still pushed for restrictive voting measures statewide, citing the Harris County “scandal” as justification. Yet, as court records show, not a single Harris County voter was denied their right to vote because of the alleged paper shortage. As one Texas Ranger quipped, “This would be about the stupidest way to try to criminally influence an election.”

Lessons Learned (Or Ignored) from Harris County’s Investigation While Ogg’s investigation has

concluded, the political fallout continues. Republican lawmakers are still pointing fingers, citing a partisan map that inaccurately showed ballot paper shortages predominantly in GOP-heavy precincts. This “heat map” ignored the reality: most polling locations received extra paper before running out, and voters could cast their ballots at any voting center across the county, minimizing potential disruptions. Nevertheless, the map and claims of "election tampering" were used to dismantle Harris County’s elections office—a move that hasn’t been applied anywhere else in Texas.

Houston Style Magazine readers, in the end, the investigation exposed a truth that Harris County Democrats already knew: our elections are fair, but they need support and transparency, not partisan meddling. The focus now turns to safeguarding the integrity of future elections, ensuring that access to voting remains open and secure for all citizens, regardless of political party.

The best way to overcome “The Big Lie” is with a bigger truth! For this reason, supporters of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz should set a stretch goal of securing 100,000,000 votes on November 5, 2024.

This is 19,000,000 more votes than Joe Biden received in 2020. Only 66 percent of eligible voters turned out for that contested election. Even with overwhelming evidence that no fraud took place in the tabulation of the vote and after over 60 court challenges, Donald Trump stubbornly held on to the lie that the election was stolen from him. And while it is clear that he knew he lost, the closeness of the count in a number of battleground states allowed him to convince his followers that he had, in fact, won the election.

Therefore, this time around, Trump should be defeated by such an overwhelming number of votes cast that there will be little room for any plausible dispute about who won the election. Governing with a divided and suspicious electorate undermines the legitimate authority of candidates who won in a free and fair election. So, what are the persuasive arguments in favor of a Harris Walz candidacy?

Well, to begin, let’s start with the economic plan being advanced by Har-

ris. Even the business community is lining up behind her plans to strengthen the U.S. economy. In a recent Wall Street Journal poll (conducted October 4th – 8th), 68 percent of respondents said they thought inflation would rise under a second Trump term compared to a Harris plan.

In the same Wall Street Journal article, 65 percent of economist said they saw Trump’s policies adding more to the nation’s deficits compared to Harris’ policy agenda. Also, 45 percent to 37 percent of economists expect economic output to expand faster under Harris.

Harris is also considering tax breaks for large companies that share profits with their workers. She wants to jump-start her economic opportunity for Americas proposal

with the following:

$25,000 for down-payment assistance for first time home purchases.

$50,000 for small businesses.

$6,000 child tax credit.

Building on the work of the Biden-Harris Administration, she intends to continue growing the number of infrastructure jobs and employment opportunities in the “Green economy.” Job training is also a critical component of her plans to reach out to those left behind during the ongoing tech revolution.

There is a string of powerful reasons that Harris-Walz must aim for 100,000,000 votes to win:

and not for retribution or revenge against the president’s adversaries.

Kamala Harris wants women to control their own bodies and not have governmental invasion of the womb. One of America’s most cherished ideals is freedom which is also one of the most galvanizing themes of her candidacy.

Kamala Harris wants an immigration policy that defines the best in the American tradition, policies that secure the border in an orderly and systematic fashion, but it is also humane and respects the dignity of all human beings.

Finally, Kamala Harris wants to bring Americans together. She has reached out to Republicans and Independents in an effort to unify a very polarized country. She knows that the wisdom in sacred scripture is instructive: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Houston Style Magazine readers, her aspirations are quintessentially American. Her policy pronouncements are inclusive. She is ready to be president for all Americans. For these and other reasons, setting a goal for 100,000,000 votes just makes good sense!

Kamala Harris wants a Justice Department that is used to protect all Americans

Get witnessed an electrifying moment last Friday as the city’s own Beyoncé took the stage to endorse Kamala Harris for president. At a packed rally, Beyoncé voiced her support not as a pop icon, but as a mother, urging the crowd to stand up for a world where their children can flourish in freedom and unity. “I’m not here as a celebrity or politician. I’m here as a mother who cares deeply about the world my children—and all our children—will inherit,” she declared, rallying the crowd to champion reproductive rights and freedom.

Joined by Destiny’s Child alum Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé energized the audience, introducing Vice President Harris with a powerful call: “It’s time for America to sing a new song. Our voices sing a chorus of unity, dignity, and opportunity. Are y’all ready to add your voice to the new American song?” The roar of support was unmistakable as she introduced Kamala Harris with pride.

Unlike her 2016 rally performance for Hillary Clinton, Beyoncé took a different approach this time, letting her words—and her presence—carry the message. Since July, Harris’s campaign has embraced Beyoncé’s anthem “Freedom” from the Lemonade album, a powerful song rooted in resilience and Southern Black spiritual traditions. This rally marked a critical

stance in Harris’s campaign, especially as it highlighted her dedication to fighting Texas’s restrictive abortion laws, central to her platform.

Kamala Harris Speaks to the Heart of Houston, Texas, and Beyond Harris took the stage with an impassioned speech on the urgent need to defend freedoms under threat. “Freedom is not to be given; it is ours by right, and we are prepared to fight for it,” she proclaimed, sparking applause. “We must be loud. We must organize. We must mobilize.” She left no doubt about her commitment to protecting reproductive rights, warning against the potential rollback of freedoms under another

Trump administration.

For this Houston rally, Harris and Beyoncé weren’t alone in rallying the crowd. Texan legend Willie Nelson performed, and actress Jessica Alba shared the stage to show her support. But Beyoncé’s heartfelt message as a mother, Texan, and Black woman added a unique resonance, setting a clear tone for a defining 2024 race.

A Warning to Swing States: "Trump Abortion Bans Are Coming for You"

In a stirring appeal to voters, Harris warned that Texas-style abortion bans could be on their doorstep if Donald Trump reclaims the White House. While highlighting the extreme six-week abortion ban in Texas,

Harris addressed a national audience: “If you think you are protected because you live in Michigan, Pennsylvania, or California, think again—no one is protected under a Trump national abortion ban.”

The campaign didn’t shy away from the personal stories that underscore the real-life impacts of restrictive abortion laws. Before Harris spoke, women shared stories of life-threatening complications due to state laws that block timely medical care. Amanda and Josh Zurawski, whose lives were upended by such laws in Texas, were among those who shared their experiences, driving home the urgency of Harris’s fight for reproductive rights.

"Our Fight is Just Beginning": The Rallying Cry for a New Future With the spotlight on Texas’s harsh anti-abortion laws, Harris underscored that this fight is far from over. She called on men across the country to support their daughters, wives, and mothers in safeguarding their rights, saying, “Men across America do not want to see their loved ones put at risk because their rights have been taken. The men of America do not want this.”

Beyoncé Endorses Kamala Harris - As A Mother

Houston Style Magazine brings you an in-depth look at Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg’s latest triumph in the fight against public corruption. In a case that reads like a scandalous novel, five defendants now stand accused of orchestrating a teacher-certification cheating ring that has rattled the foundations of Texas education.

A Costly Betrayal: Cheating Scheme That Rocked Texas Schools

The wheels of justice began turning when Harris County DA Kim Ogg announced charges against a group alleged to have manipulated Texas’s teacher certification exams on a massive scale. This elaborate, illicit operation funneled unqualified teachers into classrooms, endangering students’ futures and shattering public trust.

"This scheme put unfit individuals in positions of power over our children," stated DA Ogg, underscoring the importance of her office's commitment to integrity and safety within schools.

Meet the Defendants: The Alleged Architect and Accomplices

At the center of this scandal stands Vincent Grayson , 57, a long-standing basketball coach at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston ISD. Grayson, who

Cracking Down on Corruption: DA - Kim Ogg Charges Five in Texas Teacher-Certification Scandal

allegedly masterminded this million-dollar operation, is accused of transforming what should have been a rigorous certification process into a pay-to-play system, with each fake certificate reportedly costing around $2,500. Prosecutors estimate Grayson raked in over $1 million by peddling bogus certifications, using his influence in education to manipulate the system for personal gain.

Supporting Grayson in this scheme was Tywana Gilford Mason, 51, former director and VA certifying official at the Houston Training and Education Center. Mason, with her inside access, allegedly concealed the proxy cheating process, keeping the scheme under wraps while teachers walked away with fraudulent credentials. Her betrayal of educational standards is a chilling reminder of how easily public trust can be eroded.

Then there’s Nicholas Newton, 35, an assistant principal at Booker T. Washington High School, who allegedly acted as a "proxy test-taker." Instead of earning certification the right way, Newton

is accused of taking tests on behalf of others, allowing underqualified individuals to sidestep essential standards.

Darian Nikole Wilhite 22, a test proctor at TACTIX, allegedly accepted bribes to allow Newton to impersonate test-takers. By turning a blind eye for cash, Wilhite played a crucial role in this corrupt enterprise, betraying her responsibility to uphold the integrity of the testing process.

Finally, LaShonda Roberts 39, assistant principal at Yates High School in Houston ISD, is accused of recruiting nearly 100 teachers into the fraudulent scheme. Her alleged role in bringing in participants reveals the widespread network this cheating ring operated within, targeting individuals willing to pay to dodge qualification hurdles.

The Cost of Corruption: Students Pay the Ultimate Price

Houston ISD Speaks Out:A ZeroTolerance Approach to Corruption As details of the scheme came to light, Houston ISD moved swiftly, issuing a statement condemning any educator who undermines their commitment to students. "Any educator involved in such actions has abdicated their responsibility to our students, our staff, and the public trust," declared Alexandra Elizondo, Chief of Public Affairs for Houston ISD.

DA Ogg’s investigation revealed that two individuals who used the scheme to gain certification later faced charges related to crimes against children. "These individuals gained access to classrooms under false pretenses, creating risks for the very students they were meant to educate and protect," Ogg stated solemnly. The scandal, therefore, goes beyond mere dishonesty—it's a breach of duty that could have had grave consequences for Texas's youngest and most vulnerable citizens.

In, 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson said, "A challenge to all of us to go to work in our communities and our states, in our homes and in our hearts, to eliminate the last vestiges of injustice in our beloved country." President Johnson made this important statement when he signed the historic 1964 Civil Rights Act. And, while sixty years later we have made enormous progress in eliminating injustice in our beloved country, there is still lots more work to do.

For America to be a more perfect union, all citizens must participate fully in the electoral process as well as full participation in social and civic life. This means that we must all do our part to assure that any barriers to full participation related to race, sex, religion, ethnicity, national origin, age, and disability are removed. Going forward, we must be on guard to assure that legislation is not enacted that could result in destroying the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Instead, we should consider actions that will further the reach of the Civil Rights Act, to ensure equity for all people.

Today, we must fight to maintain the nearly 500 CMCs that serve 500 distinctive communities across North America. One opportunity to strengthen implementation of the Civil Rights Act is the mandate in Section 10 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Section 10 signifies the federal government’s willingness to offer strong support for community-based problem solving and peacebuilding. To this end, the Act establishes and resources two efforts, both of which are designed to include community voices often marginalized or left out entirely.

Second, Section 10 in the Civil Rights Act started the infrastructure of community-based mediation in the U.S. by enlarging dispute mechanisms that prioritize a role for communities in resolving their own disputes. President Richard Nison supported the establishment of locally led infrastructure for community dispute resolution that was meant to work in tandem with CRS.

This mechanism focuses on facilitating the development of “Community Mediation Centers” (CMCs) that are throughout the country and work to resolve community-based conflicts. We

Grassroots CMCs offer support on the ground in real time to those in conflict and are bridges between federal action and local disruptions, disturbances, and disputes. President Johnson said, “Every time we fought for rights in this country, we've made rights more expansive for other people.

In the dynamic, ever-shifting world of hip-hop, only a few artists truly make their mark. And Doja Cat is one of them, having blazed her way to new heights in record-breaking style. Just six months after Nicki Minaj proudly claimed the title for the most Platinum-certified hits among female rappers, Doja Cat has clawed her way right to the top, earning a spot beside Nicki—and even surpassing her in certain record-breaking achievements. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced Doja’s latest certifications this month, adding a new chapter to the saga of female rap royalty and proving that Doja Cat’s reign has only just begun.

The RIAA revealed that Doja Cat’s recent smash hits, “Agora Hills” and the chart-topping “Paint the Town Red,” have already achieved incredible certification milestones. “Agora Hills” ascended to a 2x Platinum status, while “Paint the Town Red” went even further, earning a dazzling 4x Platinum certification. In an industry where Platinum status means a whopping 1 million units sold in the U.S., Doja’s achievements are nothing short of extraordinary. These certifications underscore Doja’s ability to churn out hits that not only dominate the charts but resonate with fans across the country.

Adding to her triumph, Doja’s lat-

continue to raise the bar in hip-hop.

One interesting point about these records: the RIAA only credits certifications to lead artists, meaning any hit where Doja or Nicki appeared as a feature doesn’t count towards their individual tallies. Despite this, Doja’s career numbers are a powerful testament to her growth as a lead artist and her unbreakable connection with her fans.

est album, Scarlet, also earned a Platinum certification, making it her third consecutive album to hit this milestone. Following the success of 2019’s Hot Pink (2x Platinum) and 2021’s Planet Her (2x Platinum), Scarlet confirms Doja’s status as an artist who consistently transforms her vision into chart-topping success. With three Platinum albums, Doja has cemented herself as a powerhouse in the music industry, able to craft not only viral singles but albums that stand the test of time.

With these recent achievements, Doja has amassed an impressive 25 Gold singles, edging past Nicki Minaj and claiming the record for the most Gold-certified singles among female rappers. On top of that, Doja has earned 19 Platinum

singles, tying her with Minaj, who previously held the record for the highest number of Platinum singles by a female rapper. In other words, Doja has joined—and matched—the queen of rap in a record that once seemed untouchable.

But that’s not all. These latest certifications elevate Doja Cat’s total U.S. single sales to an astounding 51 million, putting her just behind Cardi B, who holds the title of the best-selling female rapper in terms of single sales with 58 million. This new accolade makes Doja the second best-selling female rapper in U.S. history, surpassing Minaj’s record and setting the stage for a fresh rivalry in female rap dominance. Fans and critics alike are eagerly watching as these modern-day rap queens
