Plastic surgery by teenagers is a widely debated topic. Youngsters are under immense pressure to look attractive and to be more confident in their circles. The report, based on a survey conducted in the U.K., said that girls start thinking about plastic surgery procedures at the age of just 17 and undergo the first treatment at the average age of 21. An article in the Daily Mail throws light on some of the important points in this report:
One in 5 girls thought about getting plastic surgery procedure by age 20, compared to 1 in 9 women over 50 years who thought about it
Only 17% of the girls said 'never' about plastic surgery
21 per cent said they are ‘considering it’, whereas 8% admitted having some kind of enhancement by then
Botox, breast enhancement and facial peels were the first treatments considered by women
Botox is most popular cosmetic treatment in UK and second is breast enhancement
Procedures to create 'thigh gaps' marked good growth as it made up 9% of the surgeries
About one-third of individuals consider these procedures are 'too easy' to get
An impressive 16% had tummy tucks, which are considered the top major body surgery
About 66% of the women admitted that have a cosmetic procedure made them feel more confident; 51 per cent said they took the step to ‘simply to look better for myself’
11 per cent strongly believed that surgery improved their career prospects by making them feel younger and less stressed at work
The Brazilian butt lift was among the most desired operations
As one editor rightly pointed out, surgery, which was once seen as the preserve of the old and rich, is now a normal part of everyday life for tens of thousands of young women. Even in the U.S. and other countries which lead in cosmetic surgery, more and more young people are going under the knife. It’s crucial that such aspirants are
thoroughly evaluated to determine if their expectations are realistic and if they are physically mature to undergo the procedure.
