HRCAA BRINGS A SUMMER OF CULTURE AND FUN The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association (HRCAA), a nonprofit managed by the HRCA, is pleased to bring a summer of educational, artistic, musical, theatrical, and dance events to the Highlands Ranch community. The free Culture on the Green series, set in beautiful Civic Green Park, pairs monthly cultural performances with a beautiful outdoor setting for an experience that is sure to delight all ages. 2019 performances include International Youth Ballet (May 24), 101st Army Dixieland Band (June 28), and Kalama Polynesian Dancers (July 26). The Summer Concert Series, held at Highland Heritage Regional Park, features the best local bands for an evening of fun Thursday evenings in June and July. See the enclosed cling for a complete list of bands. On June 8, the annual Classic Car Show brings out great cars, food, music, and more for a day of family fun. Admission to the event is free. If you enjoy wonderful jazz music, you don't want to miss Jazz at the Mansion on Aug. 8 at the Highlands Ranch Mansion. This event usually sells out, so don't wait to get your tickets. Each year, HRCAA produces these events and more through funding from community partners, individual donors, ticket sales, and a generous grant provided by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). HRCA is in full swing with our programs and activities! The temperatures have warmed up and we are finally seeing more of our neighbors after a winter hibernation! The trees and other vegetation are now fully blooming and summer is in the air. Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day Weekend are all quickly approaching.

Events: May starts off with a signature event for HRCA. The Taste of Highlands Ranch is one of my personal favorite events of the year! It is being held at Eastridge Recreation Center the evening of Friday, May 3. That same weekend, on May 5, we are starting our weekly Farmers' Market in Town Center. May 11 is a busy day in the Ranch kicking off with the Mother's Day 5K. Afterwards, head to our Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding event and then the Big Help in the Backcountry Wilderness Area. Find all these events and more on our online calendar at www.HRCAonline.org/Schedules.

There are 8,200 acres of conservation space to explore (1,200 not requiring a guide). HRCA members are invited to enjoy the 26 miles of trails and everyone can sign up for various Backcountry activities. Please help us preserve our trails by limiting bike riding when conditions are muddy and leave nature as you found it by cleaning up any trash or debris brought with you. Also, please remember that dogs are not allowed on the Backcountry Trails.

Short Term Rentals: Short-Term Rentals (STRs) are residential properties available for rent for a period ranging from nightly to 30 days to six months. STRs are commonly asked about and sometimes found as advertised on popular vacation rental sites such as Airbnb and Vacation Rentals by Owner. Per the Highlands Ranch Planning Development Guide (enforced by Douglas County), residential properties in Highlands Ranch are zoned for single family usage. As such, short-term rentals are prohibited in Highlands Ranch. If you have any questions concerning zoning issues; please contact the Douglas County Zoning Department at 303-660-7460. Additionally, the HRCA Residential Improvement Guidelines (RIGs) address the issue in our guidelines. Please see the complete RIGs at www.HRCAonline.org/Rigs.

Community News Maintaining Our Community's Residential Neighborhoods People move to Highlands Ranch for the wonderful quality of life, great parks and trails, outstanding recreation centers, hundreds of community events, and quality neighborhoods. Part of maintaining our aesthetic appeal in the Ranch comes from being a covenant controlled community. Homeowners agree when they purchase their homes to abide by these covenants to keep our neighborhoods beautiful and property values high. To maintain our neighborhoods, we all need to be continually looking at the condition of our yards, fences, and homes and making sure these residential guidelines are being met. Now almost 40 years old, our community is aging, and in places it is beginning to show. As the summer kicks off and everything starts blooming take time to check your home's paint, landscaping, trees, and fencing to make sure it is in good condition. Dead shrubs, trees and dead limbs should be removed and landscaping should be free of weeds and unsightly debris. If you have a residential fence, please check your fence to make sure it is in good standing condition and properly maintained. Homeowners are responsible for residential fences along their yards. If your fence is in need of repair or replacement it is now required to be stained the new "Highlands Ranch Fence Brown". This applies only to residential fencing that is facing a public street, school, or park (including wing fencing in the front of the house and any fencing that is open to a public street). A fence that has recently been stained will be not be required to be re-stained until the fence becomes in need of repair. If you reside in a sub-association, please check your guidelines for fencing and fence stain requirements. The Highands Ranch Metro District owns and manages the fencing on some major arterials, so if you back up to a major arterial and are unsure who owns the fence, give our office a call. The Community Improvement Services Department is ready to assist you with questions and concerns about any home improvements. Email covenants@hrcaonline.org, call 303-471-8832, or visit www.HRCAonline.org/Covenants.

"The Taste" of highlands Ranch Don’t miss the most delicious event of the year! "The Taste" of Highlands Ranch is celebrating its 24th year of excellence in food, and a variety of beverages. Davidsons Beer, Wine & Spirits will provide samples of wine, beer, and spirits from amazing vendors. We will also have area restaurants showing off tastes of their best cuisine. The ever-popular outdoor beer garden will be stocked full with food from local restaurants and beers from local breweries, along with additional seating and music! Each year a silent auction benefiting a nonprofit organization rounds out “The Taste.” This year Sleep in Heavenly Peace – Metro Denver Chapter (SHP) will receive the proceeds of the auction. SHP has a simple mission: No kid sleeps on the floor in our town. The local chapter in Metro Denver is dedicated to this mission and hopes to raise the funds needed to make this goal a reality. All children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. Across the U.S., too many boys and girls go without a bed – or even a pillow – to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and their health. That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace comes in. They are a group continued on page 4
