Tennis Pavilion RENOVATIONS COmpleted Over the last year, HRCA completed a $1.1 million renovation of the tennis pavilion at the Northridge Recreation Center. The original pavilion was built in 2000 and due to age, wear, and overall deterioration, it was time to upgrade the structure. The renovation included:

July 4th Parade - Town Center 8:00 a.m. - Independence Day 5K Race (see page 6 for details)

• Reskinning of the entire structure with a high grade membrane.

8:45 a.m. - Family Bike and Pet Parade

• Installation of glass roll-up doors on the west and east ends to allow staff to open during nice weather to improve air flow within the pavilion.

9:00 a.m. - July 4th Community Parade starts

• Thermal Equalizers installed on the ceiling to better heat and cool the air and improve energy efficiency.

July 4th celebration

• Installation of insulation with High Gloss White Poly–Backing to improve the energy efficiency of the building. • Upgrading of the existing lobby and offices to improve functionality, design, and finishes. The new offices were built with high impact, full length glass allowing staff to better see the tennis courts. • Resurfacing of both the indoor and outdoor tennis courts. • Upgrading of the lighting to high performance LED tennis lighting. Be sure to come by and check out the new pavilion!

HRCA Outdoor Pools are Open

The July 4th celebration returns to Highland Heritage Park for another fun-filled evening of festivities! The celebration will start at 4:00 p.m. concluding with the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.* Live music, games, food trucks, beer, and the Hot Dog Eating Contest will all return to this year's festival. For more information and the entertainment schedule visit: www.HRCAonline.org/July4. *Fire ban and weather permitting.

The HRCA would like to extend a special thank you to all first responders, volunteers, teachers, and staff that came together to assist with the safety and care for those affected by the tragic events of the STEM school shooting last month. We are truly grateful for all the contributions brought forward by so many community members and we continue to hold STEM students, teachers, and families in our hearts and thoughts. School is out and vacations are coming up for many of us, so don’t let your kids get bored this summer. We have full day and half day camps available for all age groups and interests. From learning about nature in the backcountry, to cooking, art, science, swim, dance and sports, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained and active over the summer months. Branch out and try something new today!

Safety: Please see the important message from the Douglas County Sheriff in this month’s newsletter. Safety is always an important issue in the Ranch and remembering to close up and lock up this summer will help prevent theft for all our residents.

Community News Community Improvement Services - Covenant Control We are often asked, “How are the covenants in Highlands Ranch enforced?” and “Why does it take so long to gain compliance in some cases?” The covenants in Highlands Ranch are enforced using procedures established by the Board of Directors as authorized by the Community Declaration for Highlands Ranch. These procedures are designed to ensure each out-of-compliance owner receives due process before any penalty is imposed. Ensuring due process involves many steps, which is the reason it takes time to gain compliance. An enforcement action is initiated either by a Highlands Ranch home owner complaint or by the HRCA Community Improvement Services staff’s neighborhood survey. When a home owner’s complaint is received, a staff member visually inspects the property to determine whether the complaint is a violation of the covenants. When there is a violation, the HRCA sends a letter to the property owner requesting the violation be cured by a specific date. Each year the HRCA sends out thousands of letters for various covenant violations and most home owners cure their violations promptly after receiving their first notice. Following the specified cure date, the property is inspected to determine if it has been brought into compliance. If it has not, a second violation letter with a new cure deadline is sent to the owner. The property is then re-inspected, and if the property remains in non-compliance, a third letter is sent to the homeowner giving notice that the owner has the right to a hearing before a Tribunal appointed by the Board. The hearing provides the owner an opportunity to present a defense to the Tribunal. If the non-compliance matter is not remedied thereafter, sanctions may begin to impose daily fines, denial of recreation privileges, liens on properties, and/or potential legal actions through the Douglas County Courts to further enforce compliance; the property owner is subject to pay any associated legal cost. For more information on covenant violation procedures, go to our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Covenants.

FINANCE COMMITTEE OPENING HRCA Finance Committee is accepting applications for someone with expertise in finance and accounting that can make recommendations to the Board on monthly financials. Visit www.HRCAonline.org/Committees for more information.

A note from the Douglas County sheriff's office The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is still seeing car break-ins and garage burglaries that could have easily been prevented if the residents or property owners would have been vigilant in the way the property is cared for. Over 70 percent of these crimes may have been prevented if residents would: • Always remove valuables and keys from the car, especially at parks, trails, fitness centers, and at night. • Get into a nightly routine of ensuring the car and house doors are locked, including the garage door. • Increase the amount of lighting around your home. Motion sensor lights can be a great cost saving solution. • Consider adding security cameras facing the driveway. • And lastly, look at forming or participating in a crime watch program. You can arrange this by calling our Community Resources Section at 303-660-7510. If you observe suspicious behavior, do not alert the subject(s). Call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 303-784-7800 immediately and report the behavior, it could mean the difference between foiling criminal activity and becoming a victim.
