who is Your District Delegate? Visit the HRCA web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Delegates to find out which District Delegate represents your neighborhood.

TRASH Talk Please help keep our neighborhoods safe and clean! Highlands Ranch can be windy, so make sure your trash bins are covered when you set them out for pick up. This will prevent blowing garbage and debris. In addition, with more people using the sidewalks during the summer months, remember to keep your trash bins on the curb and off the sidewalk. After trash has been picked up, trash containers must be properly stored either behind your fence or in your garage. Homeowners who leave containers out will be subject to penalties. Do your trash cans have a funny smell? Are they attracting unwanted bugs and rodents? HRCA is pleased to have Green Can Cleaner, a trash and recycle can cleaning service, as a preferred partner. The partnership provides a special discount to HRCA members for trash can cleaning and a variety of power washing services, including power washing and staining of fences. Learn more at www.HRCAonline.org/ Trash.

Want to hear from your District Delegate? Did you know that you can opt-in to receive communications from your District Delegate? Send an email to annie.vincent@hrcaonline.org and include your street address in the email. Your information will then be added to your District Delegate's email list.

What to do in August: The month of August has plenty of fun activities indeed. HRCA will have Film in the Park on August 2, 9, and 16. The event is free and movies will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. at Civic Green Park. We kindly ask homeowners to be responsible pet owners by both cleaning up after your pet when walking on the sidewalks, trails and parks; as well as refraining from allowing your dog to utilize neighbor’s yards for pet waste.

Community News Neighborhood Impressions First impressions and the general appearance of neighborhoods are greatly influenced by the paint on your home, along with the general maintenance of landscaping. The Community Improvement Services (CIS) Department is busy surveying and conducting follow ups on paint, fencing, and landscape issues.

Paint - Regular, timely painting of your home is a good practice for more reasons than just to avoid receiving a paint notice from HRCA. Nothing perks up a home like a fresh coat of paint. Be sure to get the color approved before buying the paint.

Fence- With the aging of the community, fencing has become a strong concern of residents. Regular maintenance and staining is required on all fences. In June of 2018, a unified stain color (Highlands Ranch Fence Brown) was adopted as the sole approved stain color. Please consult with the CIS Department at 303-471-8821 for further clarification of the Fence Guideline.

Trees - As neighborhoods mature, diseased and dead tree issues become more widespread. Regular trimming of trees and shrubs is recommended to keep them from becoming overgrown. Removal of dead trees and shrubs is required.

Water - Dry conditions are prevalent throughout Colorado and it is important for all home owners to use water efficiently. Follow these tips to help you reduce the amount of water needed in your landscape: • Water in the late evening to early morning hours. Evaporation loss occurs at a higher rate during the daytime hours. Only water when your yard needs it. • Water the lawn no more than two to three times per week. Deep, infrequent watering promotes deep roots and drought-tolerant grass. • Utilize horticultural best management practices. Aerate in the spring and fall. Fertilize three times during the season: spring, summer, and more importantly, fall. • Perform periodic checks of your irrigation system. Check for leaks and broken sprinkler heads and efficient coverage. Adjust your irrigation run times as the weather changes. • Use the cycle and soak method to reduce wasteful runoff. Break your watering times into five-minute cycles and wait an hour between each cycle to allow the water to soak in. • Install a rain sensor. Rain sensors can be added to your irrigation controller and will automatically shut off your sprinkler system when it rains.

The Importance of the Preschool Experience Whether you’re a full time working parent or a stay at home parent of a 3-5 year old, it is valuable to consider the importance of the Preschool experience for your child. Research has proven that children develop their most fundamental skills between birth and 5 years. These skills are critical in your child’s overall success as they move into adolescence and adulthood. A diverse learning environment is part of the overall experience. By providing your child an opportunity to develop the essential fine and gross motor, cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional skills with children their age, they are better able to cope, self-regulate and be independent. HRCA offers a Preschool program for children ages 2½-5. Our teachers are early childhood educators, caring and gentle professionals who will help your child through that experience. For more information, please call Tammi Howard at 720-348-8214.

End of Summer Camps Before your kids head back to school, give them one more unforgettable experience! For the budding artist, get your child enrolled in Animation or Video Game Design for ages 9-17, or the Drawing, Painting and Sculpture class for children ages 6-11. For the aspiring chef, try our Summer Sizzlers for Chefs in Training (ages 2-5), Crazy for Pizza (ages 7-9), or Copycats (ages 9-12). For the little ones, get them soaking up the last of the summer sun in Got Lemonade - Monday Madness, Mystery Theme - Wet and Wonderful, or Sunflowers - Surf and Turf. For the ambitious engineer or scientist in your family, try Fantastic Felines Little Veterinarian School, Extreme Expedition Camp by Bricks 4 Kidz, or Minecraft Modding by Coding with Kids. For more information, please call 303-471-8928.

Join us for a party at Backcountry Base Camp to raise funds, awareness, and a beer for the Backcountry Conservation & Education Fund!
