Jerry Flannery CEO and General Manager Erin go Bragh! Those words will certainly be shared with the crowd at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day 5K run on March 14. In addition to St. Patrick’s Day, there is also a Comedy Night, Spring Bazaar, International Wine-Tour de Italy, and the new Southridge Speakeasy happening this month. We may also be seeing greener vegetation by now, so take a moment to see if Mother Nature has created any home improvement projects for you before we get too much further along into the season.

New HRCA Improvements: The HRCA is committed to maintaining our state-of-the-art facilities that we own and operate. Every year we seek out new improvements to help keep our centers up-to-date and market competitive. Some of these improvements within the last several months have included fully renovated locker rooms at Northridge, cycling studio improvements at Westridge, and self check in kiosks at Southridge. The HRCA Board of Directors and staff work hard to budget and plan for such projects as these. Many of these projects are based on feedback we receive from the community. If you have any ideas to share, please make sure to fill out one of the comment cards located at each of the four recreation centers. I take time to personally read all submitted comment cards.

Election: March is the month for our Board of Director’s Election. This year three seats

are open. The deadline to submit applications to run for those seats was January 24. This year we have five applicants: Scott Lemmon, John Mackowiak, Melissa Park, Jerrod Roth and Krystal Woodbury. Their service to the community is much appreciated and we look forward to another two years of working with the winners to make Highlands Ranch an even better place to live, work, and play! The election will take place on March 10 at the Delegate meeting held in the Eastridge Community Room.

Volunteers Needed to Serve as Delegates: The next election will be held on April 28 to fill vacant, even numbered, and non-sub association districts. There are several vacancies this year and we are looking for volunteers to serve. The Delegates meet the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. to get updates about community events and projects. They vote on several issues such as the bylaws and the annual budget and they also elect the Board of Directors. Becoming a Delegate is a great way to be involved with the community and get to know other homeowners. Delegates are essential members of our governance body. In order to get elected, candidates must collect signatures from 10 percent of the homeowners for the district they run in. Please contact annie.vincent@ hrcaonline.org for more information.

Volunteer Spotlight: The Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)3 organization that provides post-secondary education scholarships for graduating seniors residing in Highlands Ranch or attending a Highlands Ranch high school. The scholarship was created to reward Highlands Ranch students who have demonstrated well-rounded participation in their community or school through volunteerism and/or community service hours. This year, the program will honor 20 recipients, each of whom will be rewarded a $2500 scholarship to be used the fall semester of this year. We would like to thank the scholarship selection committee, a dedicated group of homeowners that gives many hours of their time to read and rate an average of 100 applications submitted each year. Thank you to this year’s Committee Members Karen Grewell, Sue Plummer, and Suma Shamasundar for their contributions.

HRCA and Spring Projects March 19 is the first official day of Spring and with that comes enjoying the outdoors and warmer weather. It also marks the beginning of outdoor maintenance, whether it be fertilizing your lawn, replacing sprinkler heads, painting or planning new home improvement projects. Heed these tips when taking inventory of your property: • Aerating and fertilizing the lawn is key to help the grass ‘green-up’ quicker and allow new grass to fill up any bare areas. • Clean out old dried plant material, debris, and trash that may have collected under bushes or in beds. • Pruning is key to keep trees and bushes thriving, looking great and keep street signs and sidewalks free to access. Please check side yards and behind wing fences for miscellaneous items and debris. Neighbors have viewing access to our yards so it’s important to be considerate of the properties that surround us. Windows may be open as well and ‘noise pollution’ can impact the neighborhood in the form of wind-chimes, loud radios, and barking dogs. Home improvement projects are a wonderful way to improve our property values and allow us to enjoy our homes to their fullest extent. HRCA Community Improvement Services makes it easy to submit your projects for approval either through the HRCA web site www.HRCAonline.org or visiting our office at the Eastridge Recreation Center. Be sure your submittals have complete information with site plans, materials, dimensions, brochures if applicable, and pictures of the current state. You can call 303-471-8821 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday or visit our office if you have questions. We are happy to help.
