VOLUNTEER FAIR - APRIL 19

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 28 Enjoy a summer of fun at HRCA camps! Camp HRCA will have your kids enjoying swimming, batting cages, rock climbing, cooking, pottery, art, and more as part of daily activities based on location. Each week field trips and projects are based on a new theme. Full day camp is offered for ages 5-10 as well as preschool summer enrichment for ages 3-4.

Expand your horizons and test your limits at Camp Backcountry. Camp Backcountry is an outdoor camp where you will spend your summer exploring the forest, hiking, climbing, camping, rafting, riding horses, creating art, roasting s’mores around the campfire, and learning to love the wild! Our full-day, week-long nature, horse, art, expedition, and high adventure camps are offered for ages 7-17. Every session has a different theme. Registration is open now and is filling fast!

It’s an opportunity for nonprofit organizations to showcase their volunteer needs and a convenient way for our area residents to learn about volunteer opportunities – all under one roof.

Looking for an opportunity to give back to your community? The Volunteer Fair will be the perfect place to start! Admission is free and open to the public. The fun doesn’t stop there. For children or adults with special needs, the Therapeutic Recreation program is hosting LEGO, bike, and triathlon camps.

HRCA also has a variety of Art and Educational Camps at our recreation centers all summer long. From science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camps, to art, pottery, and cooking camps - get your child involved in a diverse range of activities.

FAMILY 9HEALTH FAIR The family 9Health Fair will be on Saturday, April 23, from 8:00 a.m. - Noon at the Eastridge Recreation Center, 9568 University Blvd. This fair encourages individuals to assume responsibility for their own health and offers free or low-cost medical screenings. This year screenings will be provided for children also– blood pressure, height/weight and vision– No blood screenings for participants under 18. There will also be the Wellness Zone, which provide opportunities for participants to learn more about nutrition, illness prevention, fitness, safety, and more.

The 9Health Fair is coordinated by the Highlands Ranch Lions Club and hosted

MIKE BAILEY Interim CEO and General Manager Elections: March is our Board of Directors

election. Applicants submitted applications in late February. This year we have five candidates seeking to fill three open seats: Melissa Park, Dan DeBacco, Monica Wasden, John Mack, and Mikell Wilcox.

Being a Board Director requires a tremendous amount of time and dedication; We appreciate these candidates applying to support this organization and look forward to working with the newly elected Board members.

In April we will have a District Delegates election to fill open positions. Delegates meet the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. to receive updates about community events and projects. They vote on several issues such as the by-laws and the annual budget, along with electing the Board of Directors. Delegates are essential members of our governing body. In order to get elected, candidates must collect signatures from 10 percent of homeowners in their respective district they run in.

Volunteers are needed: We know the success of the HRCA can be attributed to great volunteerism from our community members. These efforts result in what sets our association apart from communities across the nation.

We currently have openings on the architectural review, finance, development review, and the backcountry committees. If you are interested, go to HRCAonline.org/ Committees.

Volunteer Spotlight: We are grateful

to all of our dedicated volunteers, so contribute significantly to the success of our organization. These are a few of our committees we want to highlight.

The Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund is a 501©3 organization that provides post-secondary education scholarships for graduation seniors residing in Highlands Ranch or attending a Highlands Ranch High School. Created to reward students that have demonstrated well-rounded participation in their

community or school through volunteerism.

In 2022 the program will honor 20 recipients, whom will receive a $2,500 scholarship to be used the fall semester of this year.

Many thanks to the scholarship committee, a dedicated group of homeowners who provide many hours of their time to read and rate an average of 110 applications each year.

The Architectural Committee is a committed group of homeowners that review architectural projects on behalf of the association. Any exterior enhancement to a property must garnish approval from the architectural committee. Additionally, the committee reviews and updates the Residential Improvement Guidelines as warranted.

New HRCA Improvements: HRCA is committed to maintaining our state-of-the-art facilities. Every year we seek and budget for improvements to help keep our facilities upto-date and competitive in the marketplace.

This Spring we will begin the long awaited Eastridge rotunda renovation. This project will enhance the current lobby, eliminating wasted space and incorporating additional office space. This project will begin in May and continue through the summer.

Community Events: March is full of educational and fun events. The Winter Cultural Series on March 3 will be an evening of Barbershop acapella fun with the Colorado Chord Company, then participate in an educational Virtual Health Seminar on March 9 with experts from UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital on your Colon health. On March 17, we wrap up the Winter Cultural Series with Fiesta Colorado for an exciting evening of dance and a Mariachi band for a fun and energetic event you won't want to miss. Finally, on March 19 stop by Eastridge Recreation Center for our annual Spring Bazaar to find hand-crafted treasures and do some early Mother's Day shopping!

COMMUNITY NEWS ELECTION OF DIRECTORS & DELEGATES ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES (Election of Directors) – Five members comprise the HRCA Board of Directors. Currently there are three open positions that will be filled at the Annual Meeting of Delegates on March 22. Delegates will elect the three Director’s with online ballots this year, and the results of the election will be shared at the March 22 meeting.

There are five candidates currently running for the three open positions, Dan DeBacco, John Mackowiak, Melissa Park, Monica Wasden, and Mikell Wilcox have submitted their applications. ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS – In even-numbered years homeowners within even-numbered districts and all districts currently not represented by a delegate elect their district delegates. In order to be elected, candidates need to return signed proxies from 10 percent of the homeowners in their district by the Annual Meeting Date of April 26, 2022.

Parking in the Community Neighborhoods- 72 Hour Rule Warmer weather means camping and playtime outdoors!

Please be courteous to your neighbors when parking your recreational vehicle. The rule is 72 hours within a 7-day period.

The purpose is not for storage but for loading and unloading.

Many vehicles such as trailers that haul recreational equipment do not fall under the 72-hour rule and are prohibited to be parked on site. If you are unsure whether your recreation vehicle falls under this rule, please reference our Residential Improvement Guidelines at www.HRCAonline.org/Rigs.

PLANNING YOUR SPRING PROJECTS Believe it or not, Spring is just around the corner. It’s the perfect time to start your outdoor maintenance and gear up for a wonderful summer. It's also a perfect to start planning for those outdoor projects you have been talking about tackling. Exterior improvements are a wonderful way to improve property values and enjoy outdoor living to its fullest extent. All exterior home improvements are required to be submitted to the Architecture Committee for approval. All home improvement forms are located on our web site www.HRCAonline.org/Improvements.

It is imperative that you read the basic submittal information and that your plan information is complete. Below are some basic requirements for most submittals: • site plan of property • dimensions of property, proposed improvements, distance from proposed improvements to property lines • brochures denoting what specific improvement you are going with • materials, colors, patterns • photos of existing area for improvement If submissions are incomplete the committee cannot review them and therefore will delay your approval process.

Be sure to submit with plenty of time ahead to receive your approval before you begin your project. We have a large increase in submittals starting in the Spring and through Fall. FITNESS FOR ALL AGES! HRCA is proud to offer fitness classes for all ages and abilities. Due to popular demand, we have added a senior strength training class on Fridays at Northridge at 11:00 a.m. This strength focused class helps improve balance and muscle tone using a variety of equipment. We offer Senior Fitness classes of various fitness formats Monday - Friday at 11:00 a.m. at our Northridge location. Lots for Tots!

This month we have a lot to offer your tot, age 18 months-6 years! Community Helpers, a Toddler and Me class, is a great mom and me class for your 18 month-4-year-old.

With circle time, free play, crafts and snacks, your child will get a feel of what Preschool is like with the security of mom there. Kreative Kids themes this month include: One Fish-Two Fish-Red Fish -Blue Fish, Shamrocks, Farm Animals, and Thunderstorms.

These classes run each Tuesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. 2 Times the Fun March theme is Goofy with Green, and Lorax is our Stepping Stones class for those getting ready to start Preschool! Mulan will be our March princess, in Princess Dress Up and our Siblings Rivalry class that runs Thursdays from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. will have fun with shamrocks and Cat in the Hat. Three Backcountry Programs to Try This March Sunshine & Storytime, March 2 & 9: We will start the morning feeding chickens and collecting their eggs, before heading to the Base Camp Backyard to read a nature-based story. After that, the little ones will get some free time in our backyard, cooking in the woods kitchen, exploring the forest, playing games, and enjoying some fresh air!

Silver Saddles, March 10 & 24: Silver Saddles Horsemanship Program (Ages 55+) will be a great way to learn new skills, spend time outdoors, and interact with new friends.

This drop-in program is ground-work only (no riding).

Wildlife Discovery: Turkey Hike, March 26: The Backcountry Wilderness Area is teeming with wildlife enjoying life on our 13-square mile conservation property! Head out into the reserved areas with our seasoned naturalists to observe wildlife in their natural habitat and explore part of the property otherwise not accessible to the public.

ADULT SPRING ART! As things begin to turn towards Spring, now is the time to think of something that will help you grow!

Try something new and enroll in one of our adult art classes this month.

Modern Calligraphy is a new class this spring and runs March 7 – 28 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Mondays. Zen Doodling runs March 1-29 from 1:00 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Beginning Knitting is on Thursdays from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. starting March 3. If Paint and Paper are more your style, join Beginning Painting from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Beginning Drawing from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

CAMP BACKCOUNTRY SPRING BREAK CAMP (MARCH 14-18) Spring has sprung, which we think calls for outdoor exploration at Camp Backcountry! Head to the Backcountry Outdoor Center March 14-18 for full day (9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.) Nature Camp. Depending on what mother nature delivers, Nature Campers will learn about the science of snow or study the blooming world around us! Looking to hang out with our horses, join us for half-day (9:00 a.m.- Noon) Horse Camp to learn everything from riding to anatomy to horse care will have the kids’ experts in all things horse in no time.
