News March 2017
We are... Summer Registration Now Open! Spring is in the air, but it’s time to start planning for the summer! HRCA offers a wide variety of summer camps, sports leagues and events that will keep kids active! Registration for most summer camps and programs opens on March 1. Spend the summer outside in the Backcountry Wilderness Area! Whether your child is into nature, horses, adventure, art, archery, or leadership, we offer week-long, full-day Outdoor Discovery Camps from May 30 through August 4. For little ones (ages 3 to 6) who aren’t quite old enough for full-day camp, sign them up for our new Eco Explorers program. Don’t miss family activities such as nature hikes, horse trail rides, hayrides, birthday parties, evening programs, volunteer programs, and our popular Art, S’mores, and the Outdoors classes. Visit www.HRCAonline.org/Backcountry to learn more. Is sports more your thing? HRCA also hosts a wide variety of summer sports camps, from sport-specific camps like the popular youth tennis morning camp or USTA Junior Challenger Tournament to general sports camps for basketball, volleyball, or fencing. Visit www.HRCAonline.org/Sports for details. For children or adults with special needs, the Therapeutic Recreation program is hosting the ninth annual iCan Shine Bike Camp from June 12-16 at the Recreation Center at Eastridge. Sign up at HRCAonline.org/TR. If being cool in the pool is your preferred summer activity, master new skills with the Learn to Swim, Private Swim, Scuba and Snorkel classes, or Stand Up Paddle Boarding programs. HRCA also has two summer swim teams to help give your swimmer a competitive edge! Visit www.HRCAonline.org/Swim to learn more and register. The fun doesn’t stop there. HRCA has a variety of art and educational camps at our recreation centers all summer long! From science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camps, to pottery and cooking camps - get your child involved in a diverse range of activities. If you are looking for full day childcare, HRCA offers camps for ages 6-12 (registration open mid-March) and preschool summer enrichment for ages 3-5 (registration opens April 8). For more information, check out the Summer Camp insert or go online to www. HRCAonline.org. We look forward to enjoying the summer with you and your family!

Talking trash Pro Disposal is still the preferredprovider opt-in trash program in Highlands Ranch. The goal is to provide valuable service at a lower cost while championing environmental stewardship and sustainability. The home owners benefit from this program because they receive significant savings and are provided free recycling pickup while limiting the number of trucks on our streets each day. Jump on board with Pro Disposal and be a part of our community's green initiatives. Call for more information and prices 303-7913827 or visit our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Trash.
Put a lid on it! Please remember to keep your trash contained. It's important that trash be kept in sealed containers and upright while at the curb. Also compact your trash as much as possible (making it heavier and less likely to blow over), place it in bags, and put the bags into tightly covered cans before putting out at the curb.

Erin go Bragh! Those words will certainly be shared with the crowd at this year’s St. Patrick’s Day 5K run on March 11. In addition to the runners, we may also start seeing more green in our vegetation so take a moment to see if Mother Nature has created any home improvement projects for you before we get further along in the season. Board Election: March is the month of our Board of Director’s Election. This year two seats are open. The deadline to submit applications to run for those seats was January 31. This year we have six applicants: Jim Allen, Kurt Huffman, Joe Sean Kennedy, Brock Norris, Barbara Salisbury, and Krystal Woodbury. Their service to the community is much appreciated and we look forward to another two years of working with those elected to make Highlands Ranch an even better place to live, work, and play! The election will take place on March 21 at the Delegate meeting held at Eastridge (see page 3 for more information). Ongoing Planning Efforts: The Board and staff of HRCA have been very busy the first few months of 2017 implementing the new recreation software, Perfect Mind, and financial software, NetSuite. Continue to look for exciting improvements that will allow homeowners access to improved online account management tools. Part of the software upgrade requires homeowners to get new membership cards. If you haven't already done so, stop in at any of the four recreation centers to pick yours up. You will need it to register for programs or to access the facilities. HRCA Initiatives: The Board of Director’s had their quarterly “Business Review Meeting” in January where they set their objectives for 2017. Their objectives include completing the Backcountry Master Plan, a Community Events Feasibility Study, a Long-Term Strategic Plan, and improved Community Planning. More updates on these projects will be coming in the near future.

Make sure to check out the Summer Camps insert to find a complete listing of the many fun opportunities to keep your kids busy and active. We will have our annual maintenance at Westridge from April 3-8 and soon after will start the construction improvements at Northridge. We are also starting the process of selecting art for the Douglas County Art Encounters program. Highlands Ranch will receive seven new pieces of public art, which will be on display throughout the community starting in June. Many thanks to the volunteers who commit their time in support of this program, especially Larry Perkins and Manijeh Badiozamani.

Community News Spring Is in the Air This is a good time of year to take a step back and look at the overall condition of your of property. If you are planning any exterior home or landscape improvements, be sure to submit plans to the Architectural Committee for approval. Submittals are accepted online at www.HRCAonline.org/Covenants or by visiting the Community Improvement Services (CIS) office in the Recreation Center at Eastridge.
Will Your Fence Last Another Year? During neighborhood surveys we have noticed a lot of fences in disrepair. The Residential Improvement Guidelines require homeowners maintain their fences. While the Metro District continues to replace and re-stain fences along the major arterials, it may be a good time to repair and restain your own fence. Please remember to submit for your fence stain color.
Spring Cleaning - Don't Forget Your Driveway Wondering how to remove oil stains on the driveway? One method is to pour paint thinner on the spot. Saturating the area creates an oily residue. Then spread cat litter, baking soda, corn meal, or dry sand on the area. Allow this to sit overnight, sweep up, and the spot should be gone!
Election of directors & Delegates ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES (Election of Directors) – Five members comprise the HRCA Board of Directors. Currently there are two open positions that will be filled at the Annual Meeting of Delegates on March 21. There are six candidates running for the two open positions. The candidates are Jim Allen, Kurt Huffman, Joe Sean Kennedy, Brock Norris, Barbara Salisbury and Krystal Woodbury. For more information about the director election process, to review the candidates’ data forms, or to review candidates’ response to questions posed by delegates, please visit: www.HRCAonline.org/Elections.

Culture in the Ranch Culture in Highlands Ranch provides entertainment, stimulates conversation, and enhances our quality of life. Since 2011, the Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association (CAA), a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, has been thrilled to receive funding from the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) to continue to offer more than 37 free and low cost cultural programs to the Highlands Ranch community. These including the popular Summer Concert Series, Culture on the Green, Highlands Ranch Days, Magic Show, Jazz at the Mansion, Classical Music Series, and many more. Additional discretionary funds have also been distributed annually to the CAA to administer Art Encounters, a rotating annual outdoor sculpture exhibit. The SCFD distributes funds from a 1/10 of a 1 percent sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout seven counties in the Denver metropolitan area. The Douglas County Cultural Council distributes a portion of these funds to various county cultural organizations, including the CAA. Check out the upcoming Comedy Night on March 10. Players who can serve, rally, and score can compete on a team alongside friends in the following age divisions: 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under, and 18 & under.
