I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and spirits as we head into another fun-filled June and the beginning of summer! School is out and vacations are coming up for many of us, so make sure you have your mail and papers picked up to discourage the possibility of theft. It always pays to be safe, so keep an eye out for your neighbors too!
Events: The Farmers' Market has begun! Join the fun as this year’s crops start to make their way to market. As always, the Market has a great selection of produce and other crafts for your interests. This year June brings our 5th annual Beer Fest being held at Civic Green Park on June 3. The event is sold out but there are individual beers available for purchase. Also, every Thursday from now through August we hold our very popular Summer Concert Series at Highland Heritage Regional Park from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. These concerts are hosted by our Cultural Affairs Association. Be sure to also look us up online for other June events including the Classic Car Show and Culture on the Green! For more information, please check out our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Events.
Summer Maintenance: Summertime brings tremendous beauty to our neighborhoods. This is a great time of year to work on any painting or landscape projects that may need updating on your home. Please remember to check with the Community Improvement Services Offices at 303-471-8958 before beginning any work. Paint colors and most exterior construction projects require HOA approval ahead of time.
Northridge Remodel: Homeowners can expect to see renovations beginning at our oldest recreation facility, Northridge, this month. Improvements to the facility will include a new drop off and entry area, expanded cardio area, hot yoga studio, golf simulator, and overall improvements to the layout and appearance of the entire facility. Northridge will remain open during the construction, but certain areas will be closed during the different stages of the construction process. Committee Vacancies: From time to time, HRCA has vacant seats on any number of our Committees. We truly appreciate these volunteers, because without them, we couldn’t function! If you are looking for a great way to give back to your community, check out our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Committees. Right now we are looking for professionals to serve on our Finance Committee. The Finance Committee is a group of Highlands Ranch homeowner volunteers with expertise in finance and accounting who make recommendations to the Board on monthly financials, the annual audit, and budget process as well as other financially related items. This Committee meets the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Volunteer Spotlight: The Sports Department would like to recognize Dale Fredrickson as our Sports Volunteer of the Month. Dale has been coaching in our Boys Basketball League for several seasons and has been a wonderful asset. He was recently recognized as our HRCA Jr. Nuggets Coach of the Year and got to deliver the game ball before a Denver Nuggets game. His players have displayed wonderful sportsmanship on and off the court. Dale is a pleasure to work with and we are honored to recognize him.

Community News Community Improvement Services Covenant Control We are often asked, “How are the covenants in Highlands Ranch enforced?” and “Why does it take so long to gain compliance in some cases?” The covenants in Highlands Ranch are enforced using procedures established by the Board of Directors as authorized by the Community Declaration for Highlands Ranch. These procedures are designed to ensure each out-of-compliance owner receives due process before any penalty is imposed. Ensuring due process involves many steps which is the reason it takes time to gain compliance. An enforcement action is initiated either by a Highlands Ranch home owner complaint, or by the HRCA Community Improvement Services staff’s neighborhood survey. When a home owner’s complaint is received, a staff member visually inspects the property to determine whether the complaint is a violation of the covenants. When there is a violation, the HRCA sends a letter to the property owner requesting the violation be cured by a specific date. Each year the HRCA sends out thousands of letters for various covenant violations and most home owners cure their violations promptly after receiving their first notice. Following the specified cure date, the property is inspected to determine if it has been brought into compliance. If it has not, a second violation letter with a new cure deadline is sent to the owner. The property is then re-inspected, and if the property remains in non-compliance, a third letter is sent to the homeowner giving notice that the owner has the right to a hearing before a Tribunal appointed by the Board. The hearing provides the owner an opportunity to present a defense to the Tribunal. If the non-compliance matter is not remedied thereafter, sanctions may begin to impose daily fines, deny recreation privileges, put liens on properties, and/or potential legal action through the Douglas County Courts to further enforce compliance; the property owner is subject to pay any associated legal cost.
Therapeutic Recreation iCan Bike Camp Volunteers needed Each year HRCA’s Therapeutic Recreation program partners with the national nonprofit organization iCan Bike to host a bike camp for special needs children. Each camper needs the support of several volunteers to “lose the training wheels.” This year’s camp is June 12 - 16 at Eastridge. Our goal is for every child to get the chance to experience our beautiful Colorado on a two-wheeler. Interested in being a volunteer to work with a participant at our iCan Bike camp? Volunteers must be: • at least 16 years old • able to walk/lightly jog for 75 minutes with short breaks • attend a one-hour orientation and ‘spotter’ training session on Sunday, June 11 • attend a 15 minute spotter meeting immediately followed by a 75-minute session (of the volunteer’s choice) each of the five days of the program (Monday through Friday) If you meet the above criteria, we would love to have your help. Please call 303-471-7043 or email summer.aden@hrcaonline.org. Volunteer applications are online at www.HRCAonline.org/TR.
