Celebrating 35 years!
Get More! Get Green!
Get Green! The HRCA strives daily to become more energy efficient and green. So, just what is the HRCA doing to achieve this objective? To achieve this objective, the HRCA:
• uses energy efficient lighting and motion sensors in all recreation centers to consume less energy • recycles electronics, paper, plastics, dry cell phone batteries, and aluminum • relies on solar panels at Eastridge and Westridge to decrease electricity usage • uses mulching mowers and rain sensors • maintains a Xeriscape Demonstration Garden at Eastridge • grows native grasses around Southridge • depends on high efficiency HVAC to maintain comfortable inside environment In addition, the recently completed Energy Saving Project which included building control, pool systems, and HVAC will save the HRCA approximately $173,000 per year in utility cost, which is equivalent to the reduction of 6.4 million vehicle miles driven.
Get HRCA! HRCA board members re-elected At the March 15 Annual Meeting of Delegates, the HRCA Delegates re-elected Scott Lemmon, Melissa Park and Dennis Seymour to serve another two-year term. We would like to congratulate them on their successful re-election. These three directors join Jeff Suntken and Brock Norris as the HRCA’s Board. For more information about the HRCA’s leadership go to www.HRCAonline.org/Leadership.
HRCA has an agreement for preferred trash and solar providers to increase efficiency and save residents money. Pro Disposal, Highlands Ranch’s preferred trash provider, offers free single-stream recycling and saves gas by collecting trash two days a week rather than five. The most common recycled items are aluminum, glass, paper, plastic, steel, newspaper, corrugated cardboard, and glass containers. Sunpower® by Photon
Scott Lemmon
Brothers, the preferred solar provider, not only gives back to the HRCA for each homeowner who purchases solar panels, but offers a green alternative to lowering resident’s electric bills. You, as a resident, can lessen your footprint on the environment. The HRCA’s Residential Improvement Guidelines (RIGs) allows for the use of clothes lines, shutters, wind turbines, and solar panels. You can opt out of paper copies of HRCA News and the Activity Guide and receive them electronically, join recycle events such as the Tri-County Household Chemical Roundup and the HRCA’s Computer/Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding events, install low volume toilets and water saving showerheads, water when the turf needs it rather than on a fixed schedule and Xeriscape. If you are interested in more information on going green in Highlands Ranch, visit the web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Green or share your ideas on our Facebook page.

Thanks to homeowners Kurt Huffman and Jack Patterson for running on the same ballot as challengers for two of the three seats. We look forward to continuing working with the Board to make Highlands Ranch an even better place to live, work and play!
Fencing: HRCA has received many phone calls about the fencing repair and replacement project being constructed by Highlands Ranch Metro District. In 2007, the Metro District established a fence replacement program to replace the aging parkway fence in the community, much of it more than 20 years old. The original cedar wood fence is being replaced with a more durable Trex® fencing that allows for a savings of 65 percent in maintenance costs. For more information about this project visit the Metro District’s web site at www.highlandsranch.org.
Home Improvements: As homes in our community age, we see a great deal of home improvements in the neighborhoods. These renovations often result in construction debris which necessitates the use of dumpsters and Pods. These items must be placed in your driveway and are not allowed on a public right of way per Douglas County officials. If you need to have a dumpster or pod placed on your driveway please contact the Community Improvement Services Department at 303-471-8821. Open space maintenance: We often get questions on the maintenance of the open space throughout Highlands Ranch. The HRCA owns the 8,200 acres of Backcountry Wilderness Area to the south of the community, and the Highlands Ranch Metro District owns and manages the open space areas throughout the Ranch. If you have questions regarding the open space areas within the community, please contact the Metro District at 303-791-2710 or visit their web site at www.highlandsranch.org.

Volunteer showcase The HRCA would like to recognize this year’s volunteers for their service to the Highlands Ranch Community Association from May 2014 to April 2015, representing the following committees: Architectural, Backcountry Planning Areas Committee, Board of Directors, Cultural Affairs Association, Delegates, Development Review, Finance, Community Relations Event Ranch Hands, Scholarship Fund, Tribunal, and other miscellaneous volunteer teams. Without volunteers who are willing to serve, Highlands Ranch would not be the great place it is today. Even more importantly, these volunteers help set the direction for tomorrow. THE EAGLES RETURN and the TRAILS are OPEN The Wildcat Mountain Trail will remain closed due to Golden Eagle nesting as the eagle pair has returned for another year. Eagles are protected by Federal law and the trail closures are in accordance with protection guidelines. As our entire trail systems gain in popularity and use, there has also been a gain in volunteers willing to help us maintain our incredible trail system. Highlands Ranch Cycling and the H.S. Mountain Bike Teams will be back for another year to aid in maintaining trails. Local bike shop Adrenalin Cycles, works through our Adopt-A-Trail program to provide hours of maintenance, and a new group “Friends of HRCA Trails” is in the works and has a lot of great momentum thanks to some terrific volunteers. When you see these volunteers out working on the trails, thank them, and of course pass slowly and carefully!
