Preferred Trash and Recycling Services Provider – The HRCA’s preferred provider for solid waste and recycling has been Pro Disposal, Inc., and just recently they won a bid for providing service to Highlands Ranch for another three years. Their rates remain significantly lower than their competitors, and they are offering a monthly charge of $12.60. In addition to keeping their rates low, the HRCA included a request to provide a greater emphasis on recycling. In cooperation with Pro Disposal, HRCA will receive an ability to highlight and market recycling throughout the year. If you haven’t checked out their services, please do! Continued Work on HRCA’s 5-Year Plan – The Board of Directors met last month on March 15 to start detailing their vision and direction for HRCA moving forward. This plan is dynamic and will involve the department managers as well as the front-line employees. Getting all of their input and buy-in will assure that the organization has alignment throughout. The goal is to break down the “silos” that always exist in organizations of our size. Some of the best improvements to serving you, our members, come from front-line and part-time employees. No suggestion is too silly to consider. Regionalism and Alliances – Each month brings new alliances and relationships. We continue to build bonds with our community partners and grow their numbers. Please see HRCAonline. org/HRCAInfo/CommunityPartners to find who they are. We also continue to build strength among our sister organizations such as the Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce, Highlands Ranch Metro District, Northwest Douglas County Economic Development Corporation, the Douglas County Commissioners, and Administration and Community Development. I can say that each and every one of these organizations are working for the betterment of our region and property values. Community Events – The HRCA continues to do what we have always done and that is provide you with over 100 events a year. One should never get bored in Highlands Ranch with all that we are offering! We have lots of great events this month that are highlighted in this newsletter, but let me call out a couple of great ones. Don’t miss the 9Health Fair on April 13, the Kids' Expo on April 20, Volunteer Fair on April 24, and the Home Improvement Expo on April 27 and 28. Summer – Finally, summer is just around the corner, and with that, the pools will be open and our program offerings will go up exponentially. So, if you are looking at signing up for any programs, do so now and get ahead of the curve. The new Activity Guide will be in homes in early April, but you can get the jump on things by going on line and register now for the new programs. Here is to hoping April brings us some much needed showers!

Backcountry Wilderness Area of Highlands Ranch have returned in early August. Last year, the nest failed in late April due to unknown circumstances. This year, the eagles are back but at a new site about 100 yards away from their previous nest. The new nest offers more cover and protection from the elements. To give the eagles the best chance for success, the HRCA closes the Wildcat Mountain Trail, and Douglas County closes part of their trail along Monarch Boulevard until the eaglets leave the nest in late summer. The rest of the Wildcat Mountain Trail system re-opened March 30.
On Sunday, May 5, the HRCA is partnering with our Community Partner Cherry Hills Community Church for the fourth annual Love In Action Community Service Day, a large-scale community cleanup. The day will consist of well over 2,500 volunteers going into the Highlands Ranch community to help with spring cleanup projects such as picking up litter along major arterial streets; working to spruce up and beautify our schools, our four
