HRCA HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS HRCA has events, classes, and activities to keep your family entertained throughout the season. Community Events Santa is busy making his list of good girls and boys! If your child can't meet with the Jolly Old Elf in person this year, be sure to drop off his or her Christmas wish list from now until December 17 at Eastridge Recreation Center. Include your address, and all letters received by that date will get a response from the North Pole! The Hometown Holiday Drive Thru may be sold out, but we have plenty of other ways for you to get into the Christmas spirit! On December 4 at 3:30 p.m., log on to the HRCA Facebook page at Facebook.com/ HighlandsRanchCommunityAssociation for a virtual visit from Santa! He will read a holiday story and have a special message for the kids. This is a live stream, so don't be late!
Many of our traditional in-person events had been canceled for 2020, but due to a generous grant from the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, we are able to provide the community with two of our traditional events to be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home. Introduce your children to a classic, Nutcracker Highlights, in a free, one hour performance by the International Youth Ballet. In addition, experienced players from the Colorado Symphony perform Chamber Music for the Holidays live streamed on December 9. If you miss the live performance, a link will be available for viewing throughout December. Links for both of these events can be found at www.HRCAonline.org/Happenings. This year, start a holiday tradition that allows you to be socially distant by driving through Highlands Ranch to view homes decorated with festive lights. Submit your house to our Holiday House Decorating map. Entries (Continued on page 5)
RESERVATIONS NOW REQUIRED TO USE WORK OUT AREAS The State has mandated that Douglas County move to Level Red: Severe Risk on the dial. This change has reduced our capacity in the pool, weight room, and cardio areas at the recreation centers. Much like the system we used this summer for our pools, we are now using a reservation system for our cardio, weights and circuit training areas. Reservations are also required for the drop-in fitness classes and indoor pools, including lap swimming. To make a reservation, go to www.HRCAonline.org/ Reservations. The more restrictive measure impacts our sports, fitness, aquatics, and programs as well. The best way to stay

JERRY FLANNERY CEO and General Manager The end of the year is finally here, and Christmas and Hanukkah will be quick to appear. Yes, it really is December! This has been a challenging year with navigating the changes created from COVID-19. However, we still are going to celebrate the holidays and bring the holiday cheer here at HRCA.
Events and more events: The HRCA holiday traditions continue this year with slight
program modifications and virtual options for all. These options include a virtual Happy Hour on December 3 and 17 where participants can learn how to create new holiday cocktails and sample new winter beers from Breckenridge Brewery. Lastly the Holiday House Decorating is your opportunity to deck the halls and share holiday spirt with our community. Registration and information for all of these events can be found on our web site located here www.HRCAonline.org/Events.
COVID-19 Update: On Friday, November 20, the state of Colorado moved Douglas County from Level “orange” to the more restrictive Level “red” on the state’s Safer at Home Dial effective immediately, based primarily on COVID-19 case numbers, positivity, and incidence rate. For the recreation centers this means we can still stay open and operate, but now with a required reservation system. The more restrictive level “red” requirement allows us to operate with a 10% capacity rate with a limit of up to 10 people per room; instead of a 25-person capacity rate provided by level “orange.” The reservation system will help us track these capacity limitations for all members entering the facilities. Reservations are available on our web site at www.HRCAonline.org/Reservations. The change has also resulted in the closure of our Administration offices to the public. Drop off your assessment payments at the drop box located outside each of the recreation centers. If you need to drop off architectural submittals or checks, please use the outdoor drop box at Eastridge Recreation Center. Find submittal forms and online options at www.HRCAonline.org. To contact the Community Improvement Services office or the Assessments office, or to make an appointment: CIS – 303.471.8821 or email covenant@hrcaonline.org Assessments – 303.471.8815 or email assessments@hrcaonline.org Masks and temperature checks will still be required. We encourage everyone entering the recreation centers to be mindful of the increased risk at this time and remember to keep your mask on, stay home when feeling unwell, maintain 6ft of distance between yourself and others and hand sanitize whenever possible.
Budget: It isn’t always the most glamourous topic to talk about at this time of year, but
budgeting is important for all of us to understand what is happening for the next year(s) in our community. This year the Board voted to keep the total 2020 recreation and administrative assessment of $155.72 per quarter the same for 2021. Cost savings was one of the main priorities for 2020. Due to the State directives created from COVID-19 we were forced to temporarily close our facilities from March-May and since then we have also had to reduce our capacity in other areas of operations. Staff and the Board have worked hard this year to deliver programming options without increasing costs to our members. We were not able to do as many improvement projects as we normally do, but some of the highlights have included the installation of an electronic sign at Eastridge and a new pool handling unit at Westridge. The HRCA Board of Directors believes that keeping our facilities first class and up to date will continue to enhance our property values to their highest levels, which is our main responsibility. This initiative will be very important in the coming years and will require an emphasis on service to the community and capital improvements beyond just maintenance. First quarter assessment statements will be mailed or emailed to homeowners in December and payments will be due by January 1. For more detailed information on our budget, please visit www.HRCAonline.org/Budget.
COMMUNITY NEWS 2021 ASSESSMENTS Quarterly Assessment – $155.72 (Due Jan. 1, Apr. 1, July 1, Oct. 1) The 2021 quarterly assessment amount will remain $155.72. The allocation between the two functions will be different to coincide with current expense to revenue percentages.
• Administrative function: $18.36 / quarter The administrative functions include architectural control and covenant enforcements, billing and collections, accounting and finance, and community events.
• Recreation function: $137.36 / quarter The recreation functions include operating and maintaining the four state-of-the-art recreational facilities and related debt service.
Annual Assessment - $ 73.44 (due January 1) The annual assessment is for the following districts only: all commercial properties, district 50 (Gleneagles Village), 70 (The Villages), 79 (The Retreat), and 213 (Gold Peak & Silver Mesa).

Winter Trail Etiquette Winter weather can range from warm sunshine to snowy and slushy. What does that mean for recreation on the Backcountry Wilderness Area trails? • If there is snow in your yard, there is likely snow on the trails. • If you encounter mud on the trails, please turn around and run/hike/ride on the roads. • If you come across mud and puddles and MUST continue forward, please go straight through them instead of widening the trail by avoiding them. • All trail etiquette rules still apply. • Be aware of the weather forecast. If you decide it's safe to go on the trails, and that you won't impact them negatively, make sure you are dressed appropriately. By respecting the trails during—and following—inclement weather, you are preserving them for everyone. We are working diligently to provide a clean, safe environment for you, but with all things related to COVID-19 there is inherent risk. It is up to you to choose to use the HRCA amenities, knowing that you assume risk when gathering with other people and visiting other facilities.
