Coming Soon... Northridge grand re-opening Construction at the Northridge Recreation Center continues and we are eagerly anticipating completion! Approximately 80 percent of the renovations have been finished, and we are starting to see the results. The new entrance is quickly taking shape, and interior improvements to the fitness studio, new hot yoga studio, and martial arts room are nearly done. All construction is expected to be finished in late January with sports and fitness programming starting in February. One improvement you might notice when you drive by Northridge is the new tennis pavilion. This new "skin" was put on in December and is a major upgrade to the facility. The skin is both warmer, thicker, and more protecting from the elements. Renovation is planned for the interior of the pavilion in 2018 which includes adding insulation.

New Web Site Design for 2018 HRCA is kicking off 2018 with a fresh look to the web site! In addition to an enhanced design, new navigation tools and an improved search button make it easier to find what you are looking for. An Activity Login has also been added to allow you more options to find and register for activities and events.

Happy New Year! We at HRCA hope that the New Year is filled with health and prosperity for all. Get 2018 started off right by keeping your resolution to get fit and healthy. Events and Activities: With New Year's resolutions comes a high volume of visitors at our recreation centers. Programs are gearing up for an influx of registrants so make sure you get in early so you don’t miss out on a spot. This month brings the Winter Cultural Series on January 11 and January 25 at the Cherry Hills Community Church. The Lamont Jazz Orchestra and Denver's Ballet Ariel are sure to be a hit. Another fun event this month for your little superhero is Superheroes Unite on January 13.

Budget: The Delegates and Board of Directors approved the 2018 HRCA budget at the November 14, 2017 meeting and it includes a $4 per quarter, or $16 per year, increase in assessments. This increase includes a $3.75 per quarter ($15/year) increase to the Recreation Fund assessment and a $0.25 per quarter ($1/year) increase for the Administrative Fund assessment. The increase to the Recreation Fund assessment will aid in funding increases in employee costs, transfers to the Recreation Reserves Fund and recreation facility operations. The increase to the Administrative Fund assessment will aid in funding increases in employee costs, as well as an increase in transfers to the Administrative Reserve Fund. The increase in employee costs is primarily attributable to the 2018 mandated minimum wage increase, an increase in medical insurance premiums, and the addition of a new Information Technology manager position. Transfers to the Administrative Reserve Fund and Recreation Reserve Fund are based on our 30-year forward-looking reserve study, which provides a repair and replacement plan for all of the Association’s existing assets. The Association tries to fund all of these projects with cash, while maintaining account balances in accordance with our fund management policy. More information about the budget is available online at www.HRCAonline.org. The HRCA budget development process is approximately six months long and includes internal staff preparation, direction from the CEO and Board of Directors, weekly meetings with the Finance Committee from August to October, and input from the Delegates at three budget presentations throughout the preparation process. All meetings are open to the public and members of the community are encouraged to attend. Member Education: New this year will be quarterly education pieces in the newsletter about the structure and governance of Highlands Ranch Community Association. For this quarter, I would like to share some information about the differences between the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA) and the Highlands Ranch Metro District (HRMD). We often get questions from homeowners about the different functions of the two organizations. Perhaps the main difference between our two organizations is that HRMD serves as the local government in our community. They are funded by tax dollars and provide many of the municipal services offered in Highlands Ranch. Some examples of HRMD services include construction of public utilities such as roads, light signals, and street lights; landscaping and fencing; trails and parks; outdoor sports programming; emergency and fire protection services through a contract with the City of Littleton, and water/sewer services through a contract with Centennial Water and Sanitation District. In contrast, HRCA serves the homeowners in Highlands Ranch through the quarterly assessment dues that are paid by each household. With the assessment dollars, HRCA maintains and operates the four recreation centers; provides architectural control and covenant enforcement for more than 30,000 homes in the Ranch; offers programs such as fitness, sports and educational opportunities; manages the Backcountry Wilderness area, and hosts over 100 community events every year.

2018 Budget/hrca The annual budget for the Highlands Ranch Community Association, Inc. (HRCA) is a financial and operational document that is designed to carry out the obligations of HRCA. The annual budget also follows the policies of the board of directors, which reflects the requests for services and facilities by the members. The HRCA budget anticipates the level of services to be provided, the costs of doing so, and the funds that will be available to provide these services. The complete 2018 budget is online at www.HRCAonline.org/Budget.
