Forty years ago, Mission Viejo had a vision for a new master planned residential community just south of Denver. This new master-planned community called Highlands Ranch had big plans that laid out several major streets and called for multiple schools, four recreation centers, acres and acres of open space, community parks, a business park as well as a town center and public library. That community is now an award-winning thriving community known for its high quality of life. The first houses in the Ranch were completed in 1981 and, in 1984, and we had just over 2,880 residents. Today, Highlands Ranch is 22,000 acres with over 60 miles of paved and natural trails, over 2,000 acres of open space, three large community parks, 3 dog parks, 62 miles of trails and 14 neighborhood parks. The
jewel of the community is the 8,200 acres of the southernmost area of Highlands Ranch has been designated as the Backcountry Wilderness Area, which is dedicated for the preservation of open space, wildlife habitat enhancement and outdoor recreation. Our population now exceeds 99,000 residents and the community has almost reached full build out with over 32,000 homes.

A.P.E’s Basic Class/Child Escape (Ages 5-12)
This is a good introductory and refresher course for kids. It will cover a broad range of topics including defining a “Stranger”, “Lures”, Role Playing, distancing, what to yell, “Going Bananas”, “Code Words”, and communication. Child Escape: The first and most important counter move if attacked or threatened is to “run like the wind” (and bring attention to the situation). If running away is not immediately an option, you may need to know how to get out of a situation “physically.” This class goes over ways to specifically get out of danger if a child is grabbed, picked up, put in a car, etc. Because of the physical nature of this class, it is only given to both kids and parents together.
Women’s Self Defense Class (Ages 12+)
We start by discussing the importance of staying aware and being “smart” on the street and at home. We will then teach the basic strikes necessary to fend off an attacker. At this point, the instructor puts on a full padded body suit which enables the participants to land real strikes. Finally, we spend most of the class role playing some different type of attacks that women may face from a predator. This class is for any woman who is interested in becoming more empowered and more confident if ever faced with this danger.
Babysitting Class with HeartSmart (Ages 11-18)
Interactive workshop will help you make sense of the choices you face in building your future and planning for retirement. Learn strategies you can use right away. In just two entertaining and informative sessions, you’ll learn what they didn’t teach you in school. Determine the amount of money you need to retire. Use new tax law changes to your advantage. Eliminate debt and improve cash flow. Properly allocate your assets within your employer retirement plan. Use five investment strategies to minimize risks and maximize returns. Ask the right questions when evaluating insurance coverage. Reduce or eliminate taxes, expenses, delays and legal challenges with estate planning. This course includes a 235-page illustrated textbook. Price is for individual or couple
