A Message from the GM
July is always an exciting and busy month in Highlands Ranch. It’s the time of year when HRCA Recreation Center pools are used for both competition and relaxation, the Backcountry is buzzing with wildlife and curious campers, community events are packed with music enthusiasts, foodies and fun seekers, the Race Series is in full swing with runners and walkers and Farmers’ Markets are filled with an abundance of vendors and buyers. It’s a bustling time of year when local activities are abundant, both free and paid, for the entire community to enjoy.
With summer being Highlands Ranch’s busiest time of year, did you know it takes over 900 staff members to operate our four state-ofthe-art recreation centers and the Backcountry Wilderness Area?
All HRCAs recreation centers have indoor, outdoor, and lap pools supervised constantly by lifeguards and are impeccably clean. Between all four recreation centers, there are:
• 19 total bodies of water
• 42 pumps to operate the pools and amenities
• 37 lap lanes
• 7 water slides
Each recreation center is fully equipped with weight and cardio fitness areas including:
• 81 cardio equipment machines
• 60 circuit equipment machines
• Over 100 fitness classes per week geared toward all ability levels with nearly 25 different formats of fitness classes.
The HRCA has a variety of sport courts available for your recreation and sporting needs. There are courts for racquetball, tennis, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, football and running tracks including:
• 16 tennis courts
• 10 racquetball courts
• 6 pickleball courts
If weights, cardio and group fitness aren’t your thing, there are a variety of other fun ways to keep in shape utilizing HRCA’s:
• 24 basketball hoops
• 4 gymnasiums
• 4 batting cages
• 1 rock climbing wall
• 1 aqua climbing wall
• 2 golf and multisport simulators
That’s an overwhelming amount of space and programming to operate and maintain year after year! I’d like to recognize and thank all the employees of HRCA who work tirelessly throughout the year to make sure that camps, pools and events are fully staffed for the summer. Employees that ensure both vendors and shoppers are excited to return to our markets and events every summer. Workers that make sure mountain bike and foot races are organized and accessible to everyone and that a wide variety of camps are accessible for families throughout the community. Without the hard work and dedication of our staff, none of these fun summer activities are possible.
HRCA constantly strives to offer our community top-notch existing and new programs, events, classes and camps. To stay current on offerings, follow HRCA social media, and register to receive digital versions of the HRCA Newsletter and Activity Guide.

Attend one of Douglas County’s Older Adult Initiative Roadshows this summer
Are you an older adult – or do you know and care about an aging loved one – in Douglas County? Douglas County wants to stay engaged with you!
In 2023, you told Douglas County what you needed to age well. Four priorities emerged: housing, in-home services, access to information, and transportation.
Now, Douglas County is hitting the road again with an update. They want to know what you think about proposed action steps within those priority areas.
In-person roadshows will be held in communities across Douglas County from June to August. To find a roadshow near you, scan the QR code below.
Your feedback will help Douglas County refine and prioritize the action items, with the intention of including highpriority items in 2025 budget planning.
“We appreciate everyone who engaged with us on this topic in 2023,” said Commissioner George Teal.
“We’ve taken your feedback and turned it into ideas for action steps. We want to hear from you again. Come tell us what you think.”
A new way to pay HRCA assessments
(The switch from Zego by Paylease to Versapay)
We heard your concerns regarding challenges in paying your assessments and listened. Beginning on Thursday, August 1, Highlands Ranch residents will have a new way to pay assessments.
In a continuous effort to enhance the way Highlands Ranch residents pay assessments, Zego by Paylease, will be replaced with Versapay. Versapay will significantly improve your experience with its easy-to-use platform, true autopay functionality (payment amounts automatically change when assessments change), and the ability to see real-time balances.
Details to come:
More information will be sent out this month regarding enrollment. To find out more about this upgrade, please visit HRCAonline.org and check your email inbox for more information and updates this month.
Art Encounters
The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association is proud to be a part of Art Encounters, a year-long outdoor sculpture exhibit that showcases sculptures in various media and styles displayed in highly visible areas in Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, Roxborough and Castle Rock. This Douglas County project is designed to promote public interests in art, develop community pride and draw visitors to the retail or civic areas where they are displayed.
The new season of Art Encounters is in full swing! From June 2024 to May 2025, nine new sculptures will be on display in Highlands Ranch. We are excited to announce a brand new sculpture location at Westridge Recreation Center.
All pieces are available for purchase and the public is encouraged to visit each piece of art and vote for their favorite piece online using Otocast. Download the Otocast app today to experience Art Encounters in a whole new way. Visit HRCAonline.org/CAA for more information and be on the lookout for the new pieces popping up around the community.

What is the Development Review Committee?
Similar to the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) discussed last month, the Development Review Committee (DRC) is responsible for overseeing and managing the development and architectural standards specifically for commercial projects within the Highlands Ranch community. The primary functions of the DRC include:
1. Reviewing Commercial Proposals: The committee reviews proposals for new commercial constructions, modifications and renovations to ensure they comply with the established architectural guidelines and community standards.
2. Maintaining Aesthetic Standards: The DRC ensures that all commercial developments and modifications maintain the aesthetic and design standards of the community, preserving its overall appearance and harmony.
3. Enforcing Guidelines: The committee enforces the community’s architectural guidelines and standards for commercial properties, which might include aspects like building materials, colors, landscaping, signage and other visual elements.
4. Approval Process: Commercial property owners and developers within Highlands Ranch are required to submit plans and obtain approval from the DRC before commencing any significant exterior projects. This process helps ensure that any changes align with the community’s regulations and aesthetic values.
5. Community Input: The DRC might also involve community input and address any concerns or feedback from residents regarding proposed commercial developments.
The Development Review Committee plays a crucial role in maintaining the planned community’s look and feel by ensuring that all commercial development activities are in line with the community’s long-term vision and standards.
Who sits on the Development Review Committee?
The Development Review Committee consists of between five and nine volunteer resident homeowners that are appointed by the Board of Directors. Members have expertise in commercial design, development and construction; however, that’s not a requirement.
We are actively seeking members to join the Development Review Committee. Scan the QR code below for more information.
