NEWS June 2020
RECREATION CENTER OPENING GUIDELINES HRCA is pleased to reopen the recreation centers to the public, effective June 1! The recreation centers will look different than the facilities as you knew them before social distancing orders–at least for a little while. Please know that your health and safety are very important to us, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate this first phase of reopening.
What is OPEN during the initial phase of re-opening? • Administration offices will be open as normal from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday • Cardio/ Free Weight/ Circuit – limited capacity with adequate spacing • Gymnasium – for programs and programmed activities (pickleball, badminton) in limited capacity only. No open gym. • Programs- check website for programs and restrictions/guidelines for each program • Fitness classes and Personal Training • Backcountry – trails and archery range – check website for programs • Tennis Pavilion/Indoor Tennis • Golf Simulator at Northridge – singles or two people of same family • Batting Cages
What is NOT OPEN during the initial opening phase? • Pools • Locker Rooms and Family Changing Rooms – No changing or showering at the facilities • Running Tracks • Hot Tubs, Saunas and Steam Rooms • Climbing Wall • Racquetball courts at Northridge • Outdoor Volleyball Courts • Nurseries • Facility Rentals • Water Fountains- please bring your own water bottle • Senior Lounge – due to limited space and no room to safely social distance When will these amenities open? They will open when we can maintain social distancing and it is safe to do so according to health officials. Please be patient with our staff as we implement these new procedures. We look forward to welcoming you back into our facilities.
NEW SAFETY GUIDELINES During the initial phase of reopening, several new procedures are in place: • Facility hours have been modified to 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., MondayFriday and 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday • Temperature checks will be done on anyone entering the facilities • When inside our facilities, we strongly recommend that you wear a mask • Maintain 6 feet of social distance • Use provided wipes to clean off equipment after use • Limit your workout to 60 minutes to allow others use of the facilities • No daily drop-in guest passes sold In addition, capacity will be limited in the recreation centers (this will include the number of people participating in programs and camps, as well as using workout equipment). If you arrive and the building is at full capacity, you may need to wait outside for entry. We are working diligently to provide a clean, safe environment for you, but with all things related to COVID-19 there is inherent risk. It is up to you to choose to use the HRCA amenities, knowing that you assume risk when gathering with other people and visiting other facilities. For updates and more information visit www.HRCAonline.org/COVID-19.

We are excited to reopen our doors and welcome back our members to the HRCA recreation centers and start on the path to some degree of normal! While initially we are opening in a limited capacity, we look forward to the eventual return of the programs, events, and services that you have come to enjoy from our organization. The reopening of facilities of an organization as large as HRCA comes with great responsibility. The health and safety of our staff and members is our top priority. Knowing this, we have implemented protocols that we recognize could present challenges to both and we greatly appreciate your cooperation in making it easier for everyone’s safety. We understand some people may not be comfortable returning to the recreation centers right now. Should you choose to come, be aware that things have changed.
Saturday and Sunday:
Guidelines set forth by the State and Tri-County Health still limit what amenities we can open at this time. Modifications have been made to accommodate social distancing guidelines for the workout equipment, and certain areas (like the pools) are not yet open. We have a limited capacity within the facilities, so we encourage you to come during non-peak hours if possible, to avoid waiting for entrance to the buildings.

MEMBER EDUCATION HRCA is a Non-profit 501 c (4) private membership organization. We operate and maintain the four recreation centers in Highlands Ranch and we land manage 8,000 acres of open space. We put on over 100 community events each year, we are a referral agency for commercial projects submitted within the community, and we also enforce the exterior design guidelines for all homes in Highlands Ranch. More information about the services that we provide can be found at www.HRCAonline.org. In contrast, Douglas County is responsible for land use/zoning and permitting, most road construction and maintenance, adult/child protective services, animal control, emergency services, public infrastructure, snow removal, and health and human Services. Douglas County is a political subdivision of the state and has taxing authority. We often get calls and comments from homeowners about these departments. However, since we are two separate agencies, HRCA has little to no influence on the operations of these departments. We encourage all homeowners to get in touch with the appropriate entity when necessary. More information about the services of Douglas County can be found on their web site at Douglas.co.us.

Three weeks later, James King, a retired Denver Police Sergeant was arrested and charged with the horrific crime. In May, 1992, King was represented at trial by well-known defense attorneys, Walter Gerash and Scott Robinson. After nine days of deliberation, King was acquitted, and the case remains an unsolved cold case. Denver Police Lt. Jon Priest will present the facts of the case.
