START YOUR HOLIDAY PLANNING NOW! HRCA has many fun events, classes, and activities to get you ready and in the mood for the upcoming holiday season.

HRCA offers a wide variety of camps to keep your kids active and entertained over the Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks, from full-day at Camp Backcountry to half-day art, cooking, LEGO, sports, Therapeutic Recreation camps and more! • Classical Music Series | November 8 & December 6: The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association is proud to present a three-part series of classical music at The Highlands Ranch Historic Mansion. Each evening will include an hour long open house for self-guided Mansion tours.

• Curtain Call At The Mansion – Veterans Concert | November 10: The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association presents an evening unlike any other. Join us for a night of patriotic music from the Denver Pops Orchestra inside the beautiful Highlands Ranch Mansion.

• Holiday Gift Fair | November 12: This one-day show is the perfect opportunity to purchase gifts for yourself or someone special in your life. The Eastridge Recreation Center Gym and Track are filled with a variety of vendors ready to sell their unique work.

• The Nutcracker Highlights | November 19: A beloved holiday tradition, The Nutcracker, invites audiences inside the imaginative dreams of young Clara as she journeys with her Nutcracker Prince to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy.

• Hometown Holiday & Winter Market | December 2: Searching for a hometown-feeling holiday celebration, where friends and neighbors share the spirit of the season? The Winter Market provides you with a chance to shop for unique food or gift items while enjoying the holiday festivities. Santa arrives at 5:00 p.m., so don't be late.

• Princess Tea Party | December 3: Your little prince or princess will enjoy a morning of food, dressing up, with a princess! Join us for an enchanted morning as Belle, from Disney's Beauty and the Beast, shares her favorite songs, story time, and photo opportunities with your little royalty. Guests enjoy snacks, beverages, and a small gift.

Come visit the new Golf and MultiSport Simulator at Southridge! This widescreen simulator offers a genuine and unique golf experience with over 90 courses to play, including favorites – Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, Kiawah Island, Pinehurst and many more. The simulator allows for driving range time, accuracy target practice or play 18 holes with friends. Play the courses the pros play right at your neighborhood recreation facility.

MIKE BAILEY GENERAL MANAGER Highlands Ranch Community Association is a national award-winning nonprofit organization for over 30,000 homeowners.

Being a part of our Community Association is about more than just owning a house; it is about our members building the life they want to live. Over the years, the Highlands Ranch Community Association has enhanced property values and created a quality of life within Highlands Ranch. Each owner of a privately owned property within the Community Association is a member of HRCA. The quarterly assessments that each owner agrees to pay greatly enhance our administrative and recreational functions. These assessment fees are paramount in maintaining our four stateof-the-art recreation centers. Our goal is to remain fiscally responsible while offering our members the best experiences and community possible.

One of the most significant parts of my job is hearing the countless stories from our youth, families, and staff about how much they enjoy all HRCA offers. Whether you love

the arts and education, culture and festivals, sports and fitness, or our thousands of acres of Backcountry Open Space, there is always a fantastic experience waiting.

In recent weeks, we have focused on HRCA's budget and the goal of increasing communication. I aim to keep you informed and educated about HRCA news, events, our budgeting process, and highlights from the Delegate and Board of Directors meetings that may affect you. If there are any specific topics you'd like to discuss, I invite you to join the monthly Delegate and Board meetings. You can find more information about these meetings on our website.

SCHEDULE YOUR COLORADO GIVES DAY DONATION TODAY! The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association (CAA) is a nonprofit created to produce cultural, historic, and educational programs and events annually, including Highlands Ranch Days, Oktoberfest, the Summer Concert Series, and many concerts and programs.

The CAA also funds the annual Art Encounters outdoor sculpture program in Highlands Ranch. In 2022, Colorado Gives Day is on Tuesday, December 6, but you don’t need to wait until then to schedule your donation to the Cultural Affairs Assoc! Support the CAA by going to www.ColoradoGives.org/CAA.

COMMUNITY NEWS CIS ANNUAL PAINT SURVEY CIS ANNUAL PAINT SURVEY REVIEW Every year the Community Improvement Services Department goes through its Annual Paint Survey from November to December. Our technicians are out in pairs to visually inspect every home in Highlands Ranch.

What are we looking for?

Criteria is based on, but not limited to the following: • Peeling and chipping • Fading • Oil spotting • Thinning and bleed through, which can include a previous paint color showing through or the grain of the wood • Erosion or splash back • Bleaching • Damaged or rotting or warping trim boards or siding • Discoloration The areas of the home that are focused on during the evaluation are: • All siding, trim and accent areas that are painted (i.e., front door, shutters, porch railings,etc.)

• Gutters, downspouts, chimneys, accent vents, etc.

• Window trim • The rooflines on the front and sides of home • Areas near the rooflines where splash back occurs • Sides of the home subject to extreme sun exposure “Spot” painting is not recommended due to causing a ‘spotted look’ and have residents play constant ‘catch up’. If you receive one of our Paint Survey letters or are just planning for ANY exterior home improvements for the Spring of 2023, make sure you submit everything to the Architecture Committee for approval. We highly recommend submitting early. All approvals are good for one year from the approval date which leaves Residents ample time to complete the project.

IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY… The weather is changing and with each season comes new maintenance and preparation for the seasons to come.

If you have not already assessed your property, this may be a good reminder to prepare for the winter season and prepare for any projects that may need to be taken care of in the spring.

• Assess your home to see if it will require painting or if there is any exposed wood that needs repair.

• Apply a winter fertilizer.

• Check all roofing and gutters for needed maintenance-clearing out and repairs.

• Aerate and/or dethatch your lawn.

• Prune and remove dead tree branches.

• Disconnect your hoses and blow-out your sprinkler system to prevent pipes from freezing.

• Bag fall leaves and put them out for trash. Please be courteous of your neighbors and to not allow them to blow into the street or your neighbor’s yards.

• Drain your hot tubs/swim spas into your own yards or if drainage allows, into the street.

• Be a courteous neighbor and understand how the changes in your property may affect your neighbors.

• Submit any home improvements early!

Now is the time to plan, assess projects for the spring and get the approval from the Architecture Committee now.

• Consider xeriscaping your front lawn.

Colorado’s weather is always a tossup. The HRCA has partnered with the Highlands Ranch Metro District to promote xeriscaping within our community.

Please consult our Residential Improvement Guidelines if you are unsure about what needs to be submitted to the Architectural Committee. These Guidelines can be found on our website at HRCAonline.org.

THE POWER OF ART As Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is more powerful than knowledge.” As the cool temperatures settle in, it is time to give your children and yourselves, an opportunity to nurture the imagination. HRCA offers a variety of art and pottery programs to suit all ages and family schedules. This chilly, fall month try enrolling in Drawing and Painting for ages 6-11 or Kids-n-Clay in our Pottery Studio for ages 5-9. We also have a variety of hand building and wheel classes for teens to adults.

Our November session of knitting, drawing, painting, Modern Calligraphy, and Zen Doodle for adults will be sure to inspire some seasonal creativity! HIGHLANDS RANCH TAEKWONDO If you haven’t checked out the taekwondo studio at Northridge – now is the time! From beginners to advanced, ages 4 to 99+, we have a taekwondo class for you! Taekwondo teaches discipline, self-defense, responsibility, respect and so much more. These classes will help your child (or you!) achieve things you never thought possible.
