Summer is winding down into fall - One thing is for certain, the activities in Highlands Ranch continue at a feverish pace! By now, the children are back in school and the holidays are just around the corner. However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, we still have the fall season to enjoy. The HRCA fall Activity Guide has been delivered to your homes and is full of all kinds of information and things to do from programs and classes to September events! There is something for everyone and you can look ahead to the holiday events which you will want to attend with the family! Remember, this is the best time of year for fresh produce and the Farmers' Market is open on Sundays through October. What to do in September - The month of September has plenty of fun activities scheduled. One that I am sure that will catch your eye is Highlands Ranch Days! This year the event is back at the newly-renovated historic Highlands Ranch Mansion, so if you haven’t seen it, now is your chance! HRCA is proud to be partnering with the Highlands Ranch Metro District to bring this event back to its original location. The event has exhibits and reenactments which brings history back to life! Wie gehts! What would September be without our annual tribute to German culture with Oktoberfest! Make your plans now to be at Town Center South on September 22, 2:00 - 10:00 p.m. If Oktoberfest isn’t your cup of tea, I mean beer, then maybe a couple of mountain bike races are more your style. There is also the Mother/Son Masquerade Ball at the mansion and a magic show at Southridge Recreation Center! Two of our biggest environmental events are Paper Shredding on September 15 and Computer/Electronics Recycling on September 29. And finally, we can’t forget the ever popular Doggie Splash on September 9! Bring your puppy out to Westridge and have them take a dip in our pool! For all of these events and more, please check out our web site at www.HRCAonline.org or your Activity Guide! Reminders - The seasons change and daylight gets shorter in duration and plants begin to prepare for the winter season. As homeowners, we should also take time to prepare for the colder months ahead by removing dying plants or gardening equipment and storing or disposing of them properly. Your lawns may also need less water but still needs to be irrigated to a certain degree. With regard to water, our Board of Directors and staff are always looking for new ways to conserve water. We are doing everything we can to coordinate with our partners at Centennial Water and Sanitation District to get the word out on this important issue!

Cooler temperatures require less water and help to promote active root growth for grass. • Fertilize using a winterizing fertilizer to nourish the lawn. Apply fertilizer twice in early and late autumn. • Fall is a great time to plant trees and shrubs. The cooler temperatures help to maintain adequate moisture for plants and keep the soil from drying out too quickly for them to become established before winter arrives.
