h i g h l a n d s r a n c h d ay s Join us at the historic Highlands Ranch Mansion September 5-7, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. where the old west comes to life with a fur trapper, gold panning, wool spinning, horse drawn hay rides, a petting zoo, and much more! Entertainment features songs and dance performances by Native American dancers, banjo music, and a raptor program. Hands-on exhibits and mansion tours will also be available. Tickets (available only at the gate) are $4 for adults (ages 13 and up) and $2 for children (ages 2 and under are free).

Join us Saturday morning September 7, 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. for the annual Highlands Ranch Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. Feast on pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee while enjoying the beautiful and peaceful grounds of the mansion. The breakfast is a separate cost (adults are $7, children under 12 are $4) from the Highlands Ranch Days event admission.

The mansion parking lot will be closed all day on Saturday September 7, so plan to park at Mountain Vista High School parking lot and take the free shuttle to the Mansion. Shuttle rides to the event will be available on Saturday from Mountain Vista High School to the Mansion, starting at 7:30 a.m. for the pancake breakfast and Highlands Ranch Days.

Oktoberfest Gather your family and friends together on Saturday, September 21 for food, music and entertainment, dancing, and of course great German bier.

Oktoberfest is a cultural experience with entertainment that is sure to delight the little ones while you and your friends imbibe in authentic German cuisine and bier, all while enjoying a beautiful Colorado evening.

Bring your Dachshund for the annual Dachshund Races at 3:00 p.m. Registration is 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.

Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and a prize for the best dressed Dachshund! It’s an evening of non-stop entertainment for the kids, too. Children will enjoy magic, balloons, and games to their heart’s content.

Start the day off with the Oktoberfest 5K at 8:30 a.m. then stick around for the German festivities starting at noon! More 5K information can be found at www.highlandsranchrunseries.com.

Yes, the Oktoberfest event will close with a bang with the fireworks show that was rescheduled from the Fourth of July. The show is scheduled to launch (weather permitting) at 9:30 p.m. at Town Center Drive and Sgt. Jon Stiles Drive.

The seasons are changing so take this opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy the weather before the winter temps move in for a few months. I hope all of you had a great summer in the Ranch! We are truly blessed with a great community and so many great residents. Many of you volunteer your services through local organizations such as churches and schools and know how truly rewarding it is to serve others. I encourage those who haven’t had time, to find opportunities to give back to the community we hold so dear. The HRCA always has opportunities for volunteering as well, so feel free to scan our web page for a variety of those opportunities at www.HRCAonline.org/Volunteer.

Mobile Web Site: Speaking of our web site, a new HRCA Mobile Web Site is up and running. Just go to www.HRCAonline.org on your smart phone and you will be redirected to our mobile site. The mobile site allows for easier navigation of our web site on mobile devices. There will be more to come in the next year as we will be adding the ability to register and make transactions on it. If you have suggestions for improvements, please contact us at our Administration office.

Facility Upgrades: We strive to continuously improve our facilities and I always urge members to visit all four recreation facilities. This month renovation of the Northridge men’s and women’s showers will be completed, and at Eastridge construction has begun on the renovation of the cardio-weight area. More details can be found on page 2.

Events: September is packed full of events for you and your family to get out and enjoy!

Our largest event this month is Oktoberfest. And it wouldn’t be September without Oktoberfest, wait is that right? Yes, Oktoberfest in Munich starts on September 21 and ends on October 6 this year. We can’t have a 16 day party like they do in Germany, but we promise to make up for that in one day of fun and frolic. We also have the fireworks rescheduled from the 4th of July to set off at this celebration! Please check out other events this month on pages 4-5. Remember, our community events would not be possible without the support of Community Partners (listed on the back page) that sponsor them. I urge you to support these organizations that make such a big difference in our community.

Regionalism and Alliances: The high quality of life members enjoy here would not be possible without the collaboration and civic commitment of Douglas County and the Metro District. Together we made this an outstanding community. Many of you have come to me and thanked me for these ongoing regional efforts.

Quarterly Assessments

Did you know HRCA now offers homeowners the option to pay assessments online?

Eastridge closures Eastridge will be experiencing a face lift this month!

Eastridge Renovation and closures includes: GYMNASIUM We will be replacing a portion of the gym floor on the north side of the court due to water damage.

The gym will be closed from: Friday, August 23 – Saturday, September 7.

The gym will re-open on Sunday, September 8 at our regularly schedule time.

CARDIOVASCULAR AREA, FREE WEIGHT AREA & CLIMBING WALL We will be renovating the Game Room and converting it to a Weight Room. This will allow the circuit training equipment to be moved from the existing cardio room to the game room and allow for additional cardio equipment.

The cardio area will include a new layout, new floor, larger televisions and a new fitness desk. These areas will be closed Sunday, August 25 – Monday, October 7.

Make a difference in your community and get a tax write-off. Donate a car, truck, or motorcycle and proceeds from its sale will benefit the Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund or the Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association. It’s easier than selling that old clunker! Any condition is accepted. Free towing and title services are included.

Some items to note during this time frame • The Climbing Wall will be closed during the entire renovation.

• The hallway from the main stairs to the fitness studio will be blocked off for safety purposes.

• Access to the locker rooms and fitness studio will be through the Leisure Pool.

• We will be posting appropriate signage throughout the building.

Big Band Dance Night The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association is teaming up with the Highlands Ranch Mansion to bring you a night of big band music and dancing! The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (MJO), featuring many of Denver's finest jazz musicians, performs the toe-tapping, finger-snapping big band hits of the 40's & 50's.

MJO is an 19-piece jazz orchestra, or "big band," featuring male and female vocalists as well as a full-time musical director and master of ceremonies. The Highlands Ranch Mansion’s Carriage House provides an elegant setting for an

NEW! Hellbender’s Amphibious Bootcamp Hellbender’s Amphibious Bootcamp is based on the physical endurance and strength regimens used by US Navy Special Operations for training and combat. The course consists of equal parts land and water exercises, hence the name “Amphibious.” The course is open to anyone who is up to a challenge, but participants should be able to swim, and be fairly comfortable in the water. This combination of land-to-water discipline is a time and warrior tested method that will allow you to reach physical fitness levels that you never thought possible. Now that fall is around the corner, it’s time to think about fun activities you can do with your little tots! Abrakadoodle Art classes begins September 6 and is a great introduction for your 1½ - 4 year old to learn how to make a masterpiece of their very own. Play-With-Clay begins September 4 and gives children a perfect introduction to incorporating story-time into clay projects. September 6 begins our Fun Face Finger Foods cooking class that will give your tot a chance to get in the kitchen and learn to make fun snacks with kid-friendly ingredients. September 9 we begin a new session of

Tots & Tutus ballet. This is a great way for you and your little one to exercise those important motor skills together. You should also consider our Back to School Mom and Me class on Friday’s in September. These great classes will give you a wonderful opportunity to interact and engage with your child in meaningful ways. We encourage you to try our Kreative Kids, It’s a Small World, and 2 Times the Fun classes that run in the mornings during the week and are a great way to introduce your tot to some independence. For those tots who are preparing for the next step in Preschool, our Stepping Stones program gives them the school experience for just 2½ hours per week. If you have a 3-5 year old, we have a variety of fun activities for your child to learn new skills, make friends, and develop important motor, cognitive and artistic proficiencies. Science Matters is offering an Earth Rangers class Wednesday's, 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. starting September 4. For the creative child, our Muddy Hands class is the perfect way to get them using their hands and developing eye-hand coordination while playing with clay. Sticky Fingers begins on September 16,12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at Eastridge.

Our theme this month is Color Swirl! Dancing Princesses and Disney Pip Hop are great introductions to Ballet. These are less

structured classes and are a wonderfully fun place to express their inner-prince or princess. A new program this fall is Action Sports where kids come to Eastridge to do gymnastics. This program helps develop important gross motor skill and problem solving, and your child will have a lot of fun! Kindermusik - a new music program This new music program for children ages 0-4, promises to be a great way to use music to support children’s development.
