his year, we look forward to celebrating 15 years of great workforce management practises!
Keeping the pulse on “everything HR” for the last 14 years, HR Summit & Expo Asia has been considered THE platform where management, Human Resources and business professionals come together to debate, network and learn from one another over two inspiring days full of best practice case studies, round tables, panel discussions, and meetings with leading suppliers in the industry. The free-admisson Expo has always been at the heart of this illustrious event. Complementing our range of conferences on offer this year, we have put together a not-to-be-missed showcase of the latest developments in HR technology and employee development solutions, plus a range of attractive prizes for you to join in the fun and games. After a successful run last year, the Power Talks will bring the buzz back to Expo this year in the form of sharp 20-minute sessions presented by international and local professional speakers and experts. With content ranging from “essential work hacks” to “dealing with difficult employees” and “engaging your team through employee experience”, there really is a Power Talk to suit every person’s needs. Re-asserting our commitment to offer a platform for small business leaders and teams to connect and learn from each other, this year’s Expo will also be complimented by a Start-Up Zone where small enterprises and entrepreneurs will get the chance to network with industry peers to help them on their growth journey. Check them out and who knows, you may get to mingle with the next Facebook or Lazada! While touring the Expo, those who fancy deepening their learning experiences will also have the opportunity to choose between six HR Summit conferences on offer that can fit all budgets and skills gaps. Browse this special Expo Guide issue, to discover how you can make the most of your experience at the event. Don’t miss this once -a-year opportunity! BERNARD COULATY
BUSTING EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT MYTHS
There are a lot of buzz words bandied about organisations these days, as HR works to maximise employee productivity levels. However, Bernard Coulaty, International HR Leader, Author and Speaker shares that each term cultivates specific employee actions.
BIO BRIEF Bernard Coulaty is a senior global HR leader with over 20 years of professional practice as a Vice President of HR in multinational organisations in Europe and Asia. Strongly engaged within the business community, Coulaty is also President of the French Chamber HR Committee in Hong Kong and a member of the “Observatory of Engagement”. He recently published The New Deal of Employee Engagement: a sustainable body-and-mind engagement model, and shares his passion for HR through lecturing in business schools and universities, and writing various articles in professional publications.
What is the number one myth when it comes to employee engagement? One of the biggest myths in my view is the confusion of what constitutes “satisfaction”, “motivation”, and “engagement”. These words are often used in daily managerial life with some confusion regarding their real meaning. Being satisfied and engaged are far from the same thing, and each attitude creates very different results! From my own experience, there is a hierarchy in the definition of what characterises employees’ commitment to the organisation: • Are they “satisfied”? Are they happy with their job and the level of their rewards, and do they like the workplace?

BUILDING UP A PRESENCE
Do you command the room whenever you enter a meeting? Do your staff and colleagues hang on every word you say? Building this “Executive Presence” is a vital part of getting the buy-in you need to influence organisations. Fortunately, as Pamela Wigglesworth reveals in this exclusive power talk, there are some easy ways to make a big, positive impact.
BIO BRIEF Pamela Wigglesworth is a Singapore-based entrepreneur, communications expert, and professional speaker. She has a global and multicultural outlook on both life and business. Having lived in five countries, visited 26, spoken in nine and been a resident of Asia for over 26 years, Wrigglesworth is on a mission to help organisations shorten their learning curves and accelerate business results.
So what exactly is “Executive Presence”? What sort of things go into building it? In essence, Executive Presence is a way of being and is often referred to as the “It” factor. It is broken down into: how you behave – your “gravitas”; what you say – your communication; and how you look – your appearance. It’s a combination of confidence, grooming, charisma, your grace under fire, authenticity and the ability to command the room. Think: Richard Branson, Carly Fiorina or Barack Obama.
