Holy Redeemer Catholic School Annual Report 2019-2020
Letter From The Principal Dear Friends of Holy Redeemer, It is with grateful hearts that we present to you the 2019-2020 Annual Report. In this document, we report to you our fidelity in the management of the financial gifts you have made available to us this past school year and we share some of the accomplishments of our school community. Our school is thriving due to the dedication of our faculty and staff, the commitment of our families and the support of our benefactors. We are blessed to be a school where faith, academics, community and excellence are not only part of our mission but also part of our daily lives. Certainly, the 2019-2020 school year provided us with many gifts and blessings and some unprecedented challenges that we met together as people of faith and as a community that supports one another and is committed to serving our students. Never before has the partnership of parents and school been more evident than during the start of current pandemic. Our strong Catholic identity, our high academic standards, and our commitment to community was evident in the daily prayer we shared together on social media or via email, in the commitment to move forward in educating our students, and in the daily support and encouragement we received from one another. Catholic education is the work of the entire community that supports us in our partnership with parents in caring for and educating the children entrusted to our care. In turn, we seek to form people strong in faith and knowledge, building a strong foundation so that our students may serve one another and the greater community both now and in the future. Through your prayers and through your support of our Annual Fund, our car raffle, our Gala, #iGiveCatholic or GRACE Scholars, we work together to build the future of our Church and of our world through the life-long value of a Catholic education. What better investment could we make of our time, talent and finances than to invest in a better tomorrow? On behalf of the students, faculty and staff, I would like to extend my gratitude for your prayers, your financial and emotional support and for allowing us to take part in the lives of these exceptional young people. May God continue to bless your families and our Holy Redeemer school community. With gratitude,
Lauren Schell Principal

Service Projects Holy Redeemer Catholic School is a faith-centered community committed to living the principles of the Catholic Tradition rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our school community takes seriously Jesus’ command to live the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. From our kindergarteners to eighth graders, Holy Redeemer Catholic School’s mission is evident. Kindergarten students begin their journey of service by creating Christmas stockings filled with items for Catholic Charities’ Refugee Resettlement children to use in their new homes.
First Graders multiply their talents and collect funds to purchase items needed by children in the Mustard Seed communities of Nicaragua.
Second Graders reach out to their home and school communities by organizing a coat drive to collect coats for children and adults being assisted by the North Georgia area St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Third Graders realize the potential within themselves to help others less fortunate by walking in the shoes of children who have been suddenly removed from their families. They use their talents to buy backpacks and items needed by the children assisted by the Foster Care Support Foundation.
Fourth Graders heed the call of Pope Francis by practicing stewardship of God’s creation through a year-long recycling project on the Holy Redeemer campus.
Fifth Graders develop a business plan to reach out to their school and neighborhoods to collect new and gentlyused winter blankets for needy families received by North Fulton Community Charities. In Middle School, the students begin a formal program focused on the Corporal Works of Mercy.
Sixth Graders work on projects designed to help the homeless in our local community. Seventh Graders explore the issue of hunger among low-income Georgians in the context of their faith and raise funds for local food banks by participating in a fundraiser walk to support the ministries associated with Atlanta Food Bank.
Eighth Graders host a fundraiser Dress Down Day and a baked goods raffle to support the life of the unborn babies of clients at the Pregnancy Aid Clinic. Our mission of service for others reaches a new level every February. In place of Valentine’s Day parties, every Holy Redeemer student participates in a Service from the Heart hour. Students work together in their small groups on various service projects to emphasize the love of Christ for everyone, especially those most in need. Holy Redeemer students also conduct three all-school food drives during the year to support the food pantries of neighboring parishes and organizations.
Ways to Give When considering gifts to Holy Redeemer Catholic School, there are many opportunities that will not only benefit the school’s exceptional programs, but may also provide a tax-deductible contribution that is allowed by law. To learn more about ways to give to the school and its mission, contact: Jennifer Leonard, Director of Advancement at (770)-410-4056 ext. 216, JLeonard@hrcatholicschool.org.
Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is the foundation of giving to Holy Redeemer Catholic School. As with most private schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of educating our students. Giving to the Annual Fund each year bridges the gap between tuition income and the full cost to educate our students. Each year, the Annual Fund is an indispensable part of the school’s operating budget, enabling the school to fulfill its commitment to academic programs.
Cheryl Hogan Tuition Assistance Fund
In March of 2019, this fund was established for our school by the Hogan family in memory of Cheryl Hogan, our former Business Manager, in recognition of her passion for helping families in need provide a Catholic education for their children at Holy Redeemer. Please contact Jennifer Leonard to contribute to this fund.
Annual Gala, Car Raffle These events held throughout the school year are the only fundraising events for Holy Redeemer.
Cash Contributions
Unrestricted gifts of cash are the most popular and convenient way to support Holy Redeemer Catholic School. Gifts can be made in a single contribution or pledged and paid in installments.
Matching Gifts
Today many businesses have matching gift programs that will double or even triple an employee contribution. Some companies match the gifts of spouses and retirees as well, greatly increasing the impact of a donation. Matching gift information is available from your Human Resources office or the Advancement Office.
Gifts in Kind
These non-cash gifts are items that the school needs and uses including, but not limited to, office equipment, computer equipment or printing services.
Securities
Gifts of securities, stock or bonds benefit the donor and the school. This type of gift is tax-deductible and the donor may avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated stock or security.
Planned Giving
The most common planned gift is through a donor bequest, trusts, gift annuities, real estate, memorial gifts, life insurance and other financial instruments. A codicil naming Holy Redeemer Catholic School as a beneficiary can be added to an existing will.
GRACE Scholars, Inc.
Georgia taxpayers can donate to GRACE Scholars and qualify for the Georgia Private School Tax Credit. Donors receive 100% credit against their Georgia State tax liability. Money that would have gone to the State of Georgia is now supporting Catholic schools in Georgia. Please visit the GRACE Scholars at www.gracescholars.org for more information.
Holy Redeemer Catholic School Endowment w/Catholic Foundation of North GA
An endowment fund was established with an initial gift from Joseph Mitchell. This fund is in trust for Holy Redeemer through the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia. Additional donations can be made through the Catholic Foundation.

#iGiveCatholic Holy Redeemer School participated in #iGiveCatholic on Giving Tuesday, December 3. Many have looked for a way to support the Catholic educational system that helped form their lives and the lives of their families. #iGiveCatholic, Giving Tuesday provides that opportunity. All gifts made to Holy Redeemer last year were used to replace the flat panel interactive board displays and mounts in our classrooms. We recognize the value of interactive boards in student learning and engagement in all subject areas. The advanced technology is being used to facilitate instruction and assist in curriculum implementation. For the first time ever, we had a Challenge from HR parents Kevin and Sam Murray. The Murrays challenged our other HR families to raise $2,500 in pre-giving donations with the promise to match the amount. We had great fun with the Murray Mustache Challenge with all of our staff sporting fake mustaches for the day. The Challenge was a huge success with our families easily reaching the $2,500 pre-giving goal. Thank you to Kevin and Sam Murray! Our overall goal for #iGiveCatholic was $10,000 which we surpassed. We are truly blessed! On Tuesday, May 5, we participated in an additional #iGiveCatholic, Giving Tuesday specifically for tuition assistance. Thank you for supporting Catholic education.
