Student Affairs Office (SAO) plays an important role in organising a wide array of student development programmes and support students in the conduct of activities through the formation of student organisations, including the Students’ Union, Student Associations, as well as student-initiated clubs and societies. Students grow and develop as they put their ideas into practice and promote the uniqueness of their organisations to foster a vibrant campus life. One of the very popular training programmes is the Student Ambassador Programme which provides leadership training to a group of visionary students who dedicate themselves to serving the University and the neighbourhood community Students are also encouraged to particpate in a wide range of community services for the underprivileged groups. HSUHK Volunteer Team, Wu Zhi Qiao, Wofoo Leaders’ Network and University YMCA are signature programmes and student-led organisations to promote community engagement. With comprehensive training and guidance provided by SAO staff members, students are equipped with essential skills in serving the society. SAO also fosters students’ engagement in art-related groups to develop their talents and artistic mindsets. For example, HSUHK Sinfonietta to launch their community outreach performances with the support and coaching given by professional musician. Encouraging students to implement their initiatives is one of the key approaches to foster student development. The “VolTrekkers Service-learning Award and Training Scheme” is one of the examples of self-initiated projects to serve local and global
