Full of imagination I have been a child of imagination since I was small. People used to say that I had a theater in my body, staging a live show inside me every single minute. Maybe it is because I am the only child, and can only play with myself alone. That might also be the reason why my thoughts are colorful and dramatic.
Natural Observer I can stay in the woods for a whole afternoon, just to see how leaves were shaped, how a line of ants marched, and how the lights went through the leaves, or to observe some vividly-colored wild grass until my mother found me with mud all over my body and brought me home angrily.
My Family I was born of a simple family. My father is a general office worker. My mother was a junior high school teacher. My parents gave me many chances to learn, and took me to many countries to see the world when I was little, which made my childhood free and colorful.
My First Dream Art class was the class I expected most and art has been one of my strengths. Though I also did well in other fields, such as languages and sports, art was always on the top of the list. I was fond of comics in the elementary school, so I started to draw stories for fun, though they look kind of absurd now. My comics got popular in my school, and all my schoolmates read my comics every week, and expected for more. Sometimes I even got fan letters. So my first dream was to be “a cartoonist who works as an art teacher in elementary school. Of course, I did not know there was a career called designer in the world at that time.
Discovering Design I studied really hard in my adolescence, just like those normal Taiwanese students who work really hard for getting in better schools. Due to my strong personality, I did have good grades, but this life was not what I wanted. On the back of my study notes, there were many sketches, and my desire of creating got stronger and stronger as time flew. I wanted to create something that can really share with many people, not just to please my school teachers or friends. Then I started to search, which career can bring happiness to people and can really make human life better, (well, except being a politician.) I found industrial design in those big, thick university catalogs. There I discovered this job that determines the look of any visible objects in this world, and that it not only creates works but also helps the society.
10
Taiwan did not take design seriously back then; designer’s brands were also a kind of luxury. But I started collecting information from the internet and going to many exhibitions. That was when I discovered my aspiration to be a designer. Also, I started to observe products in my daily life and think why they looked that way. The more I paid attention to it, the more I noticed that my life had already been filled with many designs. Some of them were really nice but I used to take them for granted. And luckily, my parents gave me their full support when I chose design as my major.
Getting to Know Design and Myself in College I was like a sponge after entering university. I was always willing to try and experience anything about design. Here are what I have learned from my college: 1. Basic design skills and know-hows, common sense in materials, mockup making, and design methods. 2. The whole process of design, from brain-storming, research, developing, sketches, mockup making to 1 : 1 prototype. 3. Getting to know my own character and style. 4. A good team player: always bring the maximum benefit to the team, but still can work independently. 5. Love exploring unfamiliar places with a completely open mind to feel the local streets, and different cultures. That is why I have a wide range of thought. 6. Got to know some really nice friends, who inspired me to be a better person. 7. Actively participated in various design contests that sharpened my design and communication skills.
Nourishing the Soul—Meditation I started meditation from the age of 20. That helped me a lot both in design and the development of my personality. My thoughts became solid. I stopped judging by appearances. I listened to my inner voice, and can return to the peaceful place inside quickly during every emotional moment. In meditation, I realized that some of my old values could not lead me to happiness. I kept adjusting myself along the way and gradually feel a little bit closer to the “truth”.
11
What is Design? There is no certain standard for good designs in my mind. Whether they are the beautifully designed disposable products or the durable products with clean and simple designs, they all have their meaning of existence. But what I prefer are classic designs that can last long, and are eco-friendly at the same time. Take the Japanese designer Sori Yanagi who has passed away recently for example, his design works are elegant. They are not only good for long-term use, but also a piece of art combining different traditional Japanese crafts, and Japanese traditional spirits as his sources of design. The users will feel warm when using his works. This kind of works gives people a feeling of happiness, and they will want to cherish them more.
What I Had Learned in the Industry Except enhancing my basic design skills, my experience in the industry allowed me to understand the actual design process of a product before entering the market. I strongly felt that in the industry, there are limits that designers and companies have to compromise, and sometimes they cannot also take care of the environment. Some products that is claimed to be green, actually cause damage while they are produced. If we as designers do not start to make a change, this old practice will keep killing our mother earth.
My Vision In recent years, many designers and organizations have cooperated with the countries in the Third World to assist them to explore and produce new design products based on their traditional art and craft, and export them to the developed countries. It not only improves the living of the locals but also helps keep these traditional art and craft alive. Last summer, Tb & Ajkay were invited to the Designers Week in Taiwan to talk about the process and the result of the development of the products with the craftsmen in Laos. I was deeply moved by them and felt that is exactly what the value of a designer is. In the same year, I joined the YDW design camp. I had a detailed conversation with Artenica and Enrico Bressan in the team about the use of the recycled materials and the actual practice to protect the environment. That further established the direction of my future.
12
Here are the aspects I intent to research on:
1. Expand environmentally friendly practices in the design field I want to exhibit the pinnacle of recycled material goods, using new methods to reintroduce recycled goods to the marketplace. After all, the earth of the future may not be as abundant in natural resources as the present day earth; many resources that we take for granted today may become scarce and previous tomorrow. By maximizing the resources we do have, we can reduce the burden on our limited resources.
2. Be concerned with preserve traditions and cooperate with minority or remotely located populations to create products that allow traditional crafts and skills to be continued, stimulating the local economy and enriching the livelihood of the people. Use the basis of design to enhance the human condition.
3. Preserve artesian skills and traditions New designs should utilize traditional methods and skills as well as folk crafts to arrive at the perfect union of design and tradition whereby each complements the other. From African masks to Taiwanese Aboriginal Pottery, I am interested in all of it and wish for a chance to develop in this direction. I hope that studying at your esteemed school will afford me the design skills necessary to expound upon the aesthetic of our ancestors.
4. Extend the scope of spiritual thought Many modern systems of thought are far removed from that of our benevolent ancestors and basic human nature. Because of this, there have been many environmental and human tragedies. In addition to raising environmental, social, and traditional awareness, I would like to raise spiritual-awareness, that is, to promote benevolence and compassion for all life.
Except studying, I hope to look for the opportunity to be an intern to work with the top designers or design teams, which will widen my design ability and perspective. I am looking forward to taking part in various workshops to obtain more inspiration for my creation. Also, I hope to establish a studio in the future to work with the designers from all over the world, and blend together the traditional art and craft of these countries to help the laborers and craftsmen of the underprivileged areas to strive for more work opportunities and thus allow them to make more profits than before. I hope to get to know like-minded friends in the university to realize my dream. I have not restricted myself to learn the art and craft of any particular country or the tradition of any culture. I am open to any possibility of cultural contact because I believe in the wisdom of our ancestors is universal.

Design Background It is not unfamiliar to see some workable but discarded furnitures been abandoned beside the road. But why people throw away furnertures that still can work?
The Real Number In 2011, there were twenty-eight thousand tonnes of discarded furnitures in Taiwan. 78% of those discarded furnitures became fuel, 16% became fertilizer, only 6% were revamped . Source from Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Inspectors Corps.
It's all about Timing People have different needs and limits in different stages of life. Somtimes we have no choice but to give up funertures to fit in the new life. That's a wastes. For example, when one starts living with someone else, and the space is not enough for more. Or some furnitures for children become garbage after they grew up. So we want to design something that can accompany user going through evey step of their life.
18
Concept 1. This concept is about modular furniture. The moduls are made into seveal regular sizes, and can be united into different types of furnertures. The conbination should be Innovative and creative.
Concept 2. Who can live without Tables and Chairs? No matter how many people you want to live with, a table and a chair are indispensable. When the user has someone else to live with, all they need are a bigger table and more chairs. This concept is about how to make a table and chair set for only one person easily become a set for two.
19
Image Board clean / easy to use / classic / nature / fit in rooms easily / warm
Umet Opportunity & Positioning Study There are a lot of deformed furnitures in the market, but most of them look cheap that people seldom cherish. Though they are convenient and effective, the image they gave us just couldn't show their value.
20
21
Convergence In the end, we decided to devoloped Concept 2.
Solution A. Rotating the boards elegantly to put them down, matching into one. The working area of the desk will become larger.
Solution B. It uses shaped silica gel as the combination of two parts. You can make them into one by folding. The silica gel linked two together, and the color can be arranged fun and playful.
Solution C. The desktop will become bigger once you put two boards togeter by moving along the tube. also you can defined it as a table or as a cupboard by adjusting the hights of every boards.
22
23
24
Detail Evolution We used some simple math to count the length of the desk boards, they have to fit perfectly no mather which position they are. we also made tiny paper mockup to try the numbers we got. Also drew a huge number of sketches to approach the ideal look.
25
3D Rendering This was the first rendering test, which was the way we see how every parts look when they all together. In this stage, we still have some structure problems that the product might not work in the real world. But anyway, this step helped us catching the big image of our work.
Worries The levers of the desk were still thin and holded by tacks, which might be dangerous and not powerful enough to carry those desktops.
26
Try, Erro, and Fix
Mockup ( 1 : 3 )
Thanks to the mockup, we did find out some bug about the structure. The table was unstable, because the feet of the table was too thin that they would wring easily.
We used sika paper, hot melt adhesive, and Fome Boards to build a 1 : 3 mockup to see if the structure worked or not.
Therefore, we added several wooden side boards beside those metal feet, and that totally fixed the distortion.
Also can test the length of each desktops. Wheather they can fit with each other or not.
Rearranges Add side boards Thicken levers, and combine them with the desktop Add a borad on the bending of table feet as a drawer
27
Color Plan We tried several combinations and imitated them in C4D The whole work needs both wood and metal, and we finally picked the Poplar as the wood part, and the metal is dark brown.
Dark brown - metal feet / Light wood - side board
Poplar (Light)
Dark brown - Whole Frame and feet
Metal (Dark Brown)

1 : 1 Prototype Manufacturer / E-Heil Schedule / 4 months Location / She-Zi-Dao / Taipei City The model was made of wood and metal that based on card boards which were equal to the original.
30
We presented the curves by bending those planks while using tenon to combine them together. As a result, the model was both stable and elegant. One of the chair frames serves as a rail, so we choose the metal to enhance the strength. Once the wood model was finished, the next step was covering it with paint. Boards of the table and the sitting area of the chairs were the original color of the wood. Feet of the table and chair frames were painted into dark brown as matted surface metal which can match the original design.
31
32
Single life, my working space. We all have to start our life alone someday. And who can live without table and chair?
33
Life of two, our dining area. Maybe we'll meet someone who we want to live with, such as a roommate, or as a girl/boy friend. At that time, all we need is a bigger table and one more chair. 34
35
36
1. Use rails to change the heights of the site, which can make one high stool into two dining chairs. Two different chairs use the distance of heights to combine steadily and become a higher stool. Just take them apart and put the sitting area along the rail into the right place when you need them separated. 2. The glamorous radian is good to both sit and hold. Using the distance of heights to combine steadily.
37
38
1. Rotating the boards to put it down, matching them into one. The working area of the desk will become twice larger. The height will be lower so that the users can feel closer to each other. 2. A special structure to hold the table. Higher desk is a working space for one person, who might need to be more concentrated. Lower boards can be used as drawers. Also, higher desk takes less space.
3. The bending feet can prevent the board from rotating by holding it tightly. 4. Combination of woods and metal make more gradations and strengthen the structure.
39
Review This was the first work which took me a year to finish. The prosses was integrate and fullfilled. Actually, it didn't go well in the first 6 months, we were drowning in an ocean of ideas, and had no clue which concept to devalope next. The next 1 momth didn't get better, either. Though we did pick the direction, we had some worries about structure. We asked the carpenters, professers, classmates, and also made prototypes. Kept trying, and erroing. Finally we got the best solution. It might still have several security issue now, but Variation is really an eye-catching work in many exhibitions. Making Variation is one of the reason I believe that I have the capablility to become a great designer. Due to the great time management, we finished the whole work quite early, so that I had more time on the Exihibition Space Design of our department. That was another story though, which will be able to see in the following pages.
40
Exhibit We presented this work in 2010 YODEX, the booth of NTUE Art and Design department. Many people were amazed by the fascinating effects this work showed.

This is a pocket-like rag that made by 3 different fabrics for each sides, which can suits different situations.
43
Background Leftovers are always hard to clean when we mopping the dinner table. People often grab them in the rag, then carry them to the sink, and sometimes would even drop a waste or two on the way to the sink. It's time to have a new rag!
Concept 1. Fold the cloth in a special way, so it will have many surfaces, users can use the rag more times in once than the traditional ones. After the 1 : 1 mockup making, I found out that it was too complex for users. If a rag takes you that many steps to get ready, it's just another trouble.
44
Fabric Choice
Concept 2. If the rag itself is a bag, those leftovers can be carried inside. Users can grab the leftovers by using the rag as a glove.
45
46
1 : 1 Mockup and Final Prototype I first made a 1 : 1 mockup for concept 1, finding out it wasn't a pratical idea. Then I made another mockup for concept 2, using red and white fabrics to contrast different sides. And it came out pretty good. I asked my mother to try, she did think concept 2 can really make her cleaning work more convenient. The final prototype was easy, just sewing 3 fabrics together in differnt sides and it was done.

Stooly is a product that designed to keep those great old objects in a more eco-friendly and funny way. Keeping those old memories and habits with us, and leveled them up with some surprises.
53
Background There are some objects that exist in our daily life, which we never pay too much attention on, but at the same time very beautiful existence.
Traditional uses
Research
In a traditional Taiwanese wedding, or ceremony : Seats for everyone, or can put bags.
We took researches on three chairs. Tried to think in different directions and topics.
On the street : People sit on it and chatting with each other on the street.
Because they are too widespread and common in Taiwan, people never notice that they have similar memories using them. We kept the using experience from the original chairs, and evolved these memories into our new design concepts.
In Restaurants or stores you need to sit down : Seats for everyone. Shopkeepers can add more if customers increase. Children usually : Play houses or war’s game around stool. Hide thing underneath. Sit on it as their throne. 54
We chose 3 chairs that Taiwanese people are all familiar with - the Ban-Dou Chair, Long Wooden Stool, and Round Plastic Stool, which you can see everywhere in Taiwan. And used them as the beginning.
Sketches (First stage)
Round Plastic Stool
We tried several possibilities to link the new concept with our original chairs’ appearances and using experiences. Try to make users feel familiar with these scenarios. Then gradually narrow the 3 chair down to one only.
Round Plastic Stool plays a silent role in Taiwanese daily life. You can see it everywhere, the living room, bathroom, kitchen, or even in the yard. It’s made of plastic, with a hole on the top of the shell and slightly slopes on the side, which make it light and easy-holding.
55
Further sketches Because of its size, round plastic stools are usually for kids. When children get their own stool, they would use this stool to play games and storing toys, which are also a common memories in our childhood. So we keep these using habits to develop.
56
More details Keep the original shape from the traditional one Enlarge top-hole for storage Use wood instead of plastic Inserting buttons inside around the stool to connect with different furry bags, which only show up when use rise the stool up, and give user different feelings and touch.
Proportion Arrangement Due to the changed we made on the top and the whole size of the chair, the proportion needed to be redefined. So we tried several ways to see which one looked the best.
57

Woodwork
Polishing
After making the equal proportion’s drawing, we determined precise dimensions of Stooly. We discussed with carpenter about the materials. Then we went to the Lumber in Beitou to find and order the wood, Fukien Cypress, which is soft enough for grinding.
After carpenter’s grinding, using sandpapers to polish it again and again. In order to protect its surface, Wei-Lun coated its exterior in the solution that mixed Sand sealer with Thinner together (Approximately 2:1)
As we got 3 pieces of Fukien Cypress from Taichung, we talked about more details with manufacturer, such as size, angles, thickness, consistency of wood’s pattern, and dents on stool’s inside for Prym Zukunft’2 21 mm buttons.
58
Fabrics
Behind the Scenes
We bought and tested fabrics’ elasticity, and chose 6 as the furry bags’ textiles, then took the finished wooden stool and material to the couturier for stitching bags that have stuffing, which could strengthen its intensity and improve its quality of fineness.
We shoot the Stooly in the school studio. Our model was our classmate, we asked her dressed in white for us, so that the whole picture will be as clean as we expected. We tried several angles and decorations. Lighting was a big problem, too. Because one of the strobe broke, and it worked unexpectedly. We finished it anyway, thanks to all the people who helped us.
59
Want to hide something? Need a place to keep something not so important but necessary? Or to storage massy stuff when you have an unrespectable visit?
60
Concept
Details
1. You can put or hide various stuffs into Stooly, from the top-hole or from the bottom.
1. You can open buttons on the furry bag when taking things out.
2. Once you rise it up, the bag that filled up with your stuffs would surprisingly pop out with its vivid color and fabric from its base to amaze the whole picture.
2. The bag connected with stooly by 8 fasteners, which equidistantly embedded on stooly’s inner surface.
3. Stooly will be a great body in the room, because you can sit on it without showing what’s inside, and can create an amazing effect when you move it.
3. In order to correspond with different users’ characteristics, ages, and preference. Stooly can change the bag by buttons. 3. It causes different feelings when you use different fabrics, because of its elasticity, fiber, and feature.
61
62
Fibers and Textures Velvet – The matching between velvet and yellow-colored wood would present user and Stooly’s elegance. Artificial wool – It’s the thickest one, and provides special feeling of wildlife. Polar Fleece -This material is thick and makes people feel warm, which is suitable for children. Stretch Fabric – It’s the thinnest and elastic one. If you put heavy thing into stretch fabric bag, it would show things outline clear.

PARANOIA The stainless white presents our enthusiasm and persistence. Island-like stages connect to each others stands for that all these designs seems to have no connection, but indeed they deeply affect each other. Using a lot geometric shaped interfaces is the way we make ourselves different. Repeating the same objects and using just one color tone creates a whole new unique order. Dark carpet makes the pure white stage outstanding and also stands for our unparalleled affection for design. The open exhibition area represents the wideness of design, to try to make an impression that we containing ideas from every corner.

Background My department, National Taipei University of Education Arts and Design (Design Program) had an exhibition in 2010, YODEX. There were 5 other people in the exhibition space design team, and I was the main desiner who designed the whole exhibition space.
About YODEX It has been the 30th International Young Designers’ Exhibition (YODEX) since 1982. YODEX is the largest design exhibition especially oriented to students in Asia. It is a graduating show which brings design graduates’ works under one roof and attracts more than 95,000 visitors from Taiwan and abroad every year. More than 112 design colleges nationally have applied for YODEX in 2010. During 4 days of exhibition, visitors witness dynamic power of young designers in various design disciplines such as fashion design, industrial design, communication design, and interior design. YODEX offers a good opportunity for them to interact with one another and provides a valuable experience contributing to their pursuit of future careers.
Conditions and Limits Size : total 15 x 15 (meters) Pillars : 2 entire 2 x 2 (meters) pillars 2 half-sized pillars near the wall Position : on the cross road of two 6 meters hallway. Budget : 300,000 NT dollars. Number of exhibits : 24 items The facade : On the corner of two 6 meters hall way. The best position to be noticed. Boots Layout 68
About the Route Will be a single moving line, which can make sure all the items be seen.
Expectations Clean / Simple / Eye-catching / Emphasize exhibits
Proposal 1. The booth is surrounded by tall walls, only two entrances open for visitors. So that it can create a sense of mystery, cutting down all the interference, creating a exclusive space for our exhibition. To make good use of the pillars, we decided to make the storage and counter near the pillar.
Proposal 2. No tall walls around. People can see through the whole booth clearly. Every stands are like crumblings of broken islands, with gaps between each of them. In this case, It will have good lighting and great proportion. Visitors will have no pressure visiting, the whole space will be bright and open.
69
First Decision We first chose proposal 1.
1st. Mockup Then made a 1 : 30 mockup, to see the whole proportion and where to put those exhibition stands.
70
Budget Deficit But we soon found out those big tall walls killed all our budgets. So we rethink about the wall thing.
After removing those walls We chose the island proposal in the end. The top view of the new proportion is on the right. We kept the positions of two entrances, and made those stands seperated like broken iceberg. And there is a central area that exhibits samller objects.
Position Strategy When we knew the final looks of those works, we soon determined which items were capable of attracting more attentions. And decided to put those items that may catch more attention on places. So that all the comers can notice them easier and faster.

Rearrange Due to the late notice of placing a mannequin, which for displaying backpack, we need a lower stand near the cenreal cave.
150 cm ( surrounded the pillar ) 90 cm 35 cm
Lower Exhibition Stand For those bigger or outdoor design works. Shaped like broken continents, and the gaps between are obvious but not wide enough for one to pass through. So that people will be forced to walk only on the main path.
75
Introduction Board (on higher stands) I cut a corner on the fringe of stand as the place to put the introductions. The introduction for evey work will be printed on a transparent sticker. Then put the siticker on back of a triangle acrylic, lock it on the stand.
Introduction Board (on lower stands) I chose pyramidal as introduction boards for those items that placed on the lower stands. Lock the triangle acrylic which with informations on one side of pyramidal. The reason why I used triangle was to fit those geometric stands. So that the whole style will be harmonious.
76
Counter the counter will be on the back of the facade. The lower left corner will be placed a triangle light to decorate, also shows that it is different from other stands.
OutDoor Area The Outdoor Area displays two Lightings, so we added a roof to keep the area darker than others. Meanwhile, paving some triangle sods on the ground to create an outdoor atmosphere.
77
School information wall Printing some cutting sheets for school informaion, and chose the side wall as the place to put them on.
The Central Cave Some small items needed walls to dispay, we put those small objects in the center of our booth so that they won't be ignored. But just puting short wall in the center looked a little sad, so we truned it into a cave, and it came out quite good.
The Facade We did several mockups to try the structure. And cooperated with the graphic group to edit the title on the facade.
Hanger One of the exhibits needed to be hanging on a tube, so we went to a pipe bending factory, ordered a bending tube and painted it white to fit the space.
Screen We had 2 proposals, one was puting the screen on the ground, the other was hanging on the wall. And the hanging one was our final decision.

1 : 1 simple lined mockup We needed a bigger mockup to make sure these dimensions are appropriate. We first tapped the real size of every stands. We did them in the parking space underground because they were too big. And we also built a 1 : 1 frame of the central cave.

Color Plan we only considered three colors of the carpet, which are black, dark gray, and purple. And the dark gray was picked in the end.
Dark Gray Carpet
Lighting Prefering the environment to be bright and worm. Due to the lack of lighting design experience, we decided to make any possible changes when we get there.
Metirials Pick up from sample books the exhibition company gave us. The carpet, and the white wall paper.
Greensward in Outdoor Area Paving some triangle sods on the ground to create an outdoor atmosphere.
In the Process of Construction We went to the factory to check the real exhibition stands. Discussed and recheck details with carpenters. Everything went pretty well, it was just a matter of time.

One Day Before YODEX We can only built up our place for one day, it was tight. Carpenters made most of the stands in advance, so workers can just united them together in the exhibition place. Watching the empty booth became the exact image we had in mind was really amazing.

Exhibition and Awards Though it was our first time making such a big and formal exhibition, the outcome was a big hit, our booth became a rising star in the exhibition place. And won the Exhibition Design Bronze Award in the end.

Review This was my first time designing an exhibition space. From sketches, 3D, measurements, to the real objects. Not a furnerture, or a product. It was a brand new and great experience. Before this, I had no idea I can also do display design! This really exbended my league, and I enjoyed it. It was not just me who made this happen, I couldn't make it without the perfect team work. I felt safe working in the team, they were the best partners. We had great times, specifically night times. We staied all night in the studio so many times just for the best solution. We drove so far just to take a look of those wooden stands. We helped each other all the way to the end, and never gave up because we knew it will work out anyway because we are the best. I've not only learned about display in this fast but not so fast 3 months, but also some cooperation and communication skills. I had to talk with every designer who participated, discussing how they want their work to be shown. This can be a really good nutrition for my future career. I do believe that I can be a designer who tries different design fields successfully, and always learned from every difficulties and challenges.

Field Trip
Inspiration
We went observing the area, and found out that it is a place where old Taipei and new Taipei mixed. With urban streets full of international brands such as LV, Gucci, or gorgeous hotels, in the lanes and some hidden corners, there are many old objects, for example the traditional market, old houses in the alley. And they got a balance in a strange way, kind of pretty. My ROSA was red, that's why I took most of my pictures with red stuffs.
I took those old grilles which old houses have as my inspiration.
93
Start Making Most people chose white chairs, then black or gray. I picked red to pop up, also I think ROSA looks great in red. In case to combine those wools, I first drilled some holes on the chair, then started knitting. I wanted all the lines forming into one, so I knitted it non-stop. The light yellow pop up clearly but not too harsh to the eye, It's just the effect I needed.
Photo Shooting, Presentation, Awarded After finished making, we had to photo shoot a set of images that can highlight our work. So I took my chair to a retro store with old grilles which inspired me. We quickly took our own shoot separately, then presented in front of all the participants in group. In the end, each group will elect a winner, I was picked, and got a chair from Shiang Ye, which was a product that won an IF Award called slim. 94
Old in New It’s an area where has conflict cutures. It amazed me by how they mixed something old and something new. I took those old grilles which old houses have as my inspiration. Knitting some geometrical patterns on the ROSA chair with wools. This is the way I express my respect to the good old things and the good old days. 95

What's Mothers' Design This Exhibition is about co-working with mothers who do crfts. By this exhibition and cooperation, those handicrafts can not only be just handicrafts but also can be design works. Every designer who attend this exhibition must cowork with a real house wife who can make handcrafts. I chose to work with my mother this time, because she always wanted to praticipate my life, but I didn't really have time for her. So it was a good chance for us to know each other better, spending more time together.
Topic of 2011 connection / Bond
Inspiration and Concept Due to some emotional resomes, sometimes it's hard to throw away clothes that are no longer suitable for us. I want to turn them into something that can still stay around us but in a brand new appearance, coloring our daily life at the same time.
Making I first collected many used clothes at home, especially clothes when I was little. Then cut them into narrow strips, then did the color matching and classified them into different lines. In the end, knitting them together to become several round rugs with my mother. 98
How to Use They can be use separately as a cushion, or conecting together to be a big colorful carpet for family use. All the round cushions are knitting with childhood memories and emotions. Each one has it's own special color plate and materials, which makes them become the one and the only memory rug in the world.
