Students lose jobs after merger
Administration maintains these events are not related Editor’s Note: It should be noted the Lumberjack’s News editor, Dajonea Robinson, was one of the laid off student assistants working for Housing and Resident Life by Bailey Tennery Computer Science major, Zach Pole, was laid off before this fall semester. The rest of his coworkers lost their jobs as well. Pole said the money he earned paid for everything, such as his housing, phone bills, school necessities and the braces he once had. Pole worked part time for Housing as a maintenance student assistant for two years. Pole soon found out the work given to him wasn’t what he was supposed to be doing. His murderer still walks free and case remains open. Charmaine Lawson, Josiah Lawson’s mother, spoke at Sacramento State on Oct. 15 on a panel with Justice for Josiah committee member Jill Larrabee, and Courtney Wagner, the director and editor of “Unsolved Hate,” a documentary of Josiah Lawson’s murder. Sacramento State was one of many campus stops for Charmaine Lawson during “Week of Action,” an event put together by Students for Quality Education to remember Josiah and discuss safety and the CSU’s accountability of Josiah Lawson’s murder. Three drinking water fixtures on Humboldt State’s campus have been removed from service for having lead levels higher than Environmental Protection Agency standards. Humboldt State is the third CSU to test its drinking water for lead with all three finding water sources containing higher than recommended lead levels. Over the summer HSU decided to test some of its drinking water sources after two other CSUs tested drinking water on their campuses and found that some sources tested higher than the Environmental Protection Agency’s benchmark of an acceptable level of lead in drinking water.
